<p>However, the Delhi Police issued a statement, clarifying their stance, and stressed that the security has not been withdrawn, adding, "It was decided to request Haryana Police to take over the responsibility in future since the protectees normally reside there."</p>

<p>A Delhi Court on Thursday directed the Delhi Police to immediately make arrangements for women's security, who will be testifying against Brij Bhushan, according to a report in Live Law.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The case began in January last year, when Indian ace wrestler Vinesh along with Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia accused the WFI Chief of sexual exploitation and intimidation, following which the wrestlers started protesting at Jantar Mantar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Ministry of Sports, India&nbsp;suspended the newly elected Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) body headed by chief Sanjay Singh on Sunday, December 24. The suspension comes after&nbsp;WFI failed to follow&nbsp;the provisions of the constitution of WFI while announcing a hasty plan to host the wrestling nationals.</p>

<p>The WFI had announced the plans to hold the nationals for U-15 and U-20 age group before the end of ongoing year, that is, in the next seven days.</p>

<p>The ministry, in its statement said&nbsp;the announcement was made in 'haste' as it didn't give the wrestlers sufficient notice. The ministry also found the decision to hold nationals on such short notice in breach of the WFI constitution.</p>

Even for Emergency EC meeting, minimum notice period is 7 clear days with quorum requirement of 1/3rd of representatives," read the ministry's statement.</p>

<p>The ministry also observed that the newly elected body "appears to be in complete control of former office bearers in complete disregard to the Sports Code."</p>

<p>The WFI has been instructed to suspend all its activities till further orders by the ministry.</p>

<p>Notably, new chief Sanjay Singh is a close aide of the former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who has been facing sexual harassment&nbsp;charges. Many prominent wrestlers including Olympic gold medal winners Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia were part of the protest against Brij Bhushan since earlier this year.</p>

<p>"The business of the Federation is being run from the premises controlled by former office bearers. Which is also alleged premises wherein sexual harassment of the players have been alleged and present the court is hearing the matter," the ministry also observed.</p>

<p>In the recent developments, Sakshi decided to retire from the game with immediate effect in protest of&nbsp;Sanjay Singh being elected&nbsp;as the new WFI chief. Punia, on the other hand, returned his prestigious civilian award Padam Shree.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Over the past months, Sakshi, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia led the protests hoping&nbsp;for a change of guard at the WFI.&nbsp;Following the much-delayed elections, Brij Bhushan's&nbsp;loyalist Sanjay&nbsp;emerged on top eventually, claiming 40 out of 47 votes.</p>

Mr Bajwa sought one week time. <p>BJP lawmaker and outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was granted bail by a Delhi court on Thursday (July 20) in connection with the women wrestlers’ harassment case.</p>

<p>Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal also granted bail to co-accused Vinod Tomar — the suspended assistant secretary of WFI.</p>

<h2><strong>Conditions imposed</strong></h2>

<p>The court has asked both of them not to leave the country without its prior permission and ordered them not to threaten or induce the wrestlers or complainants or indulge in any way that might impede the probe.</p>

<p>"Please ensure that all the conditions are meticulously followed," Jaspal said, according to Livelaw outlet</p>

<p>The order came two days after (July 18) the metropolitan court had granted interim bail for two days to both of them.</p>

<p>The judge had said the chargesheet has been filed without arrest and the accused "have cooperated with investigation".</p>

<p>During the hearing, public prosecutor Atul Srivastava told the judge that strict conditions must be imposed on the accused while granting bail.</p>

<p>The BJP MP was accused of sexual harassment by several women wrestlers and consequently, the Delhi Police filed two first information reports (FIRs) on June 2.</p>

<p>The complaints against the WFI chief mentioned his attempts at inappropriate touching, putting his hand over the chest of girls, moving his hand from the chest to the back and chasing them, among others.</p>

<h2><strong>Charges against Singh</strong></h2>

<p>On June 15, a chargesheet was filed against Brij Bhushan Singh under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).</p>

<p>Singh has denied all allegations, and even issued a defiant statement refuting all charges.</p>

<p>Singh's counsel alleged a media trial, to which the judge said he may move an application before the high court or trial court.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the wrestlers said that their fight will now continue in the court and not on the roads. Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia posted identical tweets saying the government has fulfilled its promise of filing a chargesheet against Singh by the given date.</p>

<p>"Regarding the reforms in WFI, the election process, as promised, has begun. We will wait for fulfilment of promises made by the government regarding the July 11 elections," the statement on Twitter read.</p>

So what is the entire issue and will the wrestlers&nbsp;get a closure with Brij Bhushan’s arrest and trail?</p>

<h2><strong>What is the wrestler's protest about?</strong></h2>

<p>The union of wrestlers consisting of Olympic and Commonwealth Games medal winners Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and others started protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh Sharan. The protest began on 18 January 2023 in India’s capital Delhi at the famous Jantar Mantar where the top wrestlers along with 40 other junior and senior category wrestlers complained about the administration and unnatural behaviour of the WFI chief and his colleagues.</p>

<p>The female wrestler complainants accused Bhushan of groping, touching their breasts and navels without consent, stalking, intimidation, and demanding 'sexual favours' in exchange for professional help, all of which led to a 'shared sense of fear and trauma' among the women wrestlers.</p>

<p>However, all the allegations were denied by the WFI chief who even insisted that he is willing for a death sentence if found guilty.</p>

<h2><strong>Role of government and Supreme Court of India</strong></h2>

<p>Listening to the wrestler’s plea, the government had formed an oversight committee led by Mary Kom on 23 January 2023. The report was submitted on April 5 and was not made public which caused anger amongst the wrestlers. The committee also consisted of Babita Phogat (cousin sister of Vinesh) and stated that the witnesses were not cross-questioned. The report, according to the protesting wrestlers, had favoured the accused Brij Bhushan Singh.</p>

<p>The wrestlers then resumed their protest on 23 April 2023 and demanded that an First Investigation Report (FIR) be registered against Brij Bhushan, which was first denied by the Delhi Police when the oversight committee report was submitted. The Supreme Court of India then ordered Delhi Police to register an FIR against the accused WFI chief on April 28.</p>

<p>Two FIRs, one under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO Act) and the other for outraging modesty, were filed by the Delhi Police on 28 April. Offences under the POCSO act were cognizable, non-bailable, and require immediate arrests without a court warrant but the police did not arrest Bhushan which led to accusations of bias and unequal application of the law by many. In addition to the POCSO act, the FIRs included IPC sections 354 (assault with intent to outrage woman's modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 34 (common intention) on Bhushan.</p>

<h2><strong>Non-violent take by protesters</strong></h2>

<p>Despite FIRs, the protests intensified after the Delhi Police refused to take action against the WFI chief who is a sitting Member of Parliament (MP). Agitators who had made the national capital Delhi the epicentre of their protests made their presence felt when they planned a non-violent protest at the new parliament building on the day of its inauguration to draw government's attention on Sunday, May 28.</p>

<p>However, the plans of protests were foiled by the police as the force prevented the top wrestlers from reaching the site of the new parliament building.</p>

<p>A couple of days later, the wrestlers claimed they felt humiliated for protesting for so long and no concrete action being taken on their allegations. They went on to announce that they would immerse the&nbsp;medals they had won in international and national events in the Ganga. The&nbsp;protesters planned to&nbsp;immerse their medals in the Ganga at Har ki Pauri&nbsp;in the holy city of Haridwar (113 km from Delhi) in the Uttarakhand state of India. Vinesh, Bajrang, and Sakshi Malik were scheduled to immerse their medals in the holy river in the city considered a pilgrimage site of Hindus. However, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait intervened and convinced the wrestlers not to take such extreme steps and promised all support to them.</p>

<p>As a consequence of the wrestler's protest, the elections of the WFI, originally scheduled to be held in June 2023 are now scheduled to be held in July. India could pay a big price for the turmoil going on with the wrestling body’s administration as the deadline to announce the squad for the Asian Games 2022 (to be held in 2023) approaches near. India still hasn’t named a squad as the trials are yet to take place at the national level which could result in wrestlers missing out on the continental tournament.</p>

<h2><strong>What next for Brij Bhushan?</strong></h2>

<p>As things stand, Brij Bhushan has been granted interim bail by a Delhi court on Tuesday, July 18 in the sexual harassment case, while his plea for regular bail is scheduled for hearing next week. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal granted relief to Singh and his co-accused Vinod Tomar — the suspended assistant secretary of WFI — after the prosecution did not oppose their plea for interim bail. At the time of writing, neither Brij Bhushan nor Tomar have been arrested by the Delhi Police, however, the grip of investigation could be tightened on the duo if further evidence is found against them.</p>

As things stand, Brij Bhushan has been granted interim bail by a Delhi court on Tuesday, July 18 in the sexual harassment case, while his plea for regular bail is scheduled for hearing next week. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal granted relief to Singh and his co-accused Vinod Tomar — the suspended assistant secretary of WFI — after the prosecution did not oppose their plea for interim bail. At the time of writing, neither Brij Bhushan nor Tomar have been arrested by the Delhi Police, however, the grip of investigation could be tightened on the duo if further evidence is found against them. <p>The women wrestlers, who are also the complainants, have questioned the intent of the oversight panel that probed the sexual harassment accusations against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and alleged that it was biased towards him, according to the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police in the sensational case.</p>

<p>The outgoing WFI chief is scheduled to appear before a trial court on Tuesday in pursuance of summons issued against him and the Federation's Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar.</p>

<p>The government-formed five-member oversight panel, led by the legendary Indian boxer MC Mary Kom, had submitted its report to the government but it was not made public.</p>

<p>The complainants, in their separate statements, alleged that the panel appeared biased towards Singh, who is also a BJP MP.</p>

<p>The chargesheet that runs into 1599 pages, contained statements of 44 witnesses, besides six statements by the complainants which were recorded under CrPC 164.</p>

<p>"Even after giving my statement before the (oversight) committee whenever I visited the Federation office, the accused looked at me with distasteful and lustful eyes and made wrong gestures which made me feel insecure," said one of the complainants.</p>

<p>"Even the video recording was being switched off and on while I was giving my statement and in spite of my request the committee did not supply me a copy of my video recording. I fear that my statement may not have been recorded in entirety and may also have been tampered with to protect the accused," the statement of the wrestler read further.</p>

<p>Another complainant said that she was made a part of the WFI sexual harassment committee to look into such cases without her consent. All national sports federations are supposed to have Internal Complaints Committee.</p>

<p>"I was never issued any formal communication informing me about such approval, nor was any formal communication received by me seeking my approval to be part of the sexual harassment committee of the Wrestling Federation of India.</p>

<p>"The accused, in conspiracy with accused No. 2 and other unknown persons, has deliberately done this to suppress my voice and allegations against him. He has, without my approval or consensus, made me part of the said committee and is now alleging that in spite of being part of the committee, I am falsely alleging to be a victim myself," said the complainant.</p>

<p>The same 'victim' also alleged that the oversight panel did not provide her the recording when demanded.</p>

<p>"I had serious doubts that my statement on video may not have been recorded in entirety or may have been altered in an attempt to protect the accused and thus I requested for a copy of the video recording. However members of the oversight committee flatly turned down my request."</p>

<p>Delhi police had justified not arresting the accused, saying both Singh and WFI Assistant Secretary Tomar complied with the law by joining the investigation.</p>

<p>"Results of digital/electronic devices and exhibits seized and deposited with the concerned Forensic Labs are yet to be received and shall be filed through supplementary police reports. The analysis of requisitioned CDRs etc., as found appropriate for the purpose of prosecution shall also be submitted expeditiously," the police said in the chargesheet.</p>

<p>The Olympic medalist-turn BJP politician Yogeshwar Dutt lately went public, tweeting a video criticising the Indian Olympic Association's ad-hoc committee for allowing six of the protesting wrestlers' special one-bout trials in August to qualify for the Asian Games, while the rest of the wrestlers are competing in trials in late June.</p>

<p>In his tweet, Dutt pointed fingers at the committee's controversial decision that to him is unfair to other wrestlers who are vying for a spot in the Asian Games 2023 and also urged the rest of the wrestling community to condemn it. Dutt also called it a 'Black Day for Wrestling.'</p>

Wrestlers protest: Vinesh Phogat hits back at fellow Olympian Yogeshwar Dutt as situation turns ugly

<p>The Delhi Police on Thursday filed a chargesheet against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the sexual harassment case. The chargesheet was filed under Sections - 354, 354D, 345A &amp; 506 (1) of IPC in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court, as reported by ANI.</p>

<p>As per reports, heavy police were deployed outside Bhushan's Delhi house ahead of filing the chargesheet. Besides, as promised by the Sports Ministry and agreed upon by the protesting wrestlers, the action was taken on June 15.</p>

<p>While more than 180 people were questioned in regard to charges levelled against Brij Bhushan Singh in a sexual harassment case, more than 25 people have recorded their statements, as per the latest reports.</p>

<p>Police, meanwhile, filed for a cancellation report in the POCSO case in Delhi's Patiala House Court, after the minor's father, in his latest statement, withdrew the charges against the outgoing WFI chief. A cancellation report in the same is filed due to no concrete evidence.</p>

<p>The court has scheduled the next hearing on July 4.</p>

<p>"Since the case is related to POCSO Act, the court has fixed July 4 as the next date of hearing," says public prosecutor Atul Srivastava. "In the POCSO matter, after completion of the investigation, we have submitted a police report under section 173 Cr PC requesting for a cancellation of the case based upon statements of the complainant i.e., the father of the minor victim and the victim herself," Delhi Police said, as quoted by ANI.</p>

<p>Several Olympic medalists, including Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, alongside national champion Vinesh Phogat, among others, took to the streets to protest against the WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh on sexual harassment charges.</p>

<p>These national heroes sat at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, asking for the arrest of Brij Bhushan. After months of drama, in late April, Delhi Police lodged two FIRs and ten complaints against him. Since no action was taken, the wrestlers met the Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur at his residence, promising them action against the accused following an investigation.</p>

<p>It was after meeting Thakur that the wrestlers decided to pause their protest.</p>

<p>Amid all the chaos surrounding the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections over the past few months, a tentative date is out, which is July 4. Also, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has appointed the former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice, Mahesh Mittal Kumar as the returning officer. Meanwhile, the much-awaited elections are likely to be conducted at the Special General Meeting of the WFI.</p>

<p>The latest reports suggest that Justice Mittal Kumar could decide on SGM’s date and elections on his own and will also take a final call on whether to hold it on the tentative date or later.</p>

<p>The IOA earlier, on directions from the Sports Ministry, formed a three-member ad hoc committee on April 27 - in which two members were asked to run the federation’s day-to-day operations.</p>

<p>“IOA has to take steps forward to conduct elections of the WFI Executive Committee, and we are pleased to appoint you as a returning officer to conduct the elections of the WFI. You may consider appointing one assistant returning officer and other staff to assist in conducting the elections,” the IOA wrote in its letter to Justice Mittal Kumar.</p>

<p>“Elections are required to be conducted in the SGM of the WFI called on 4th July and the schedule of the election will be required to be drawn accordingly.</p>

<p>“We look forward to your confirmation of acceptance and also the smooth conduct of elections of the WFI on July 4.”</p>

<h2>Brij Bhushan in hot water</h2>

<p>The controversy surrounding suspended WFI chief and BJP MP, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, is wholly responsible for all of this. In January this year, several female wrestlers, including National and Olympic champions like Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, among others, took to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, protesting against Brij Bhushan over sexual harassment allegations levelled against him.</p>

<p>While the matter was thought to be sorted after intervention from the sports ministry early on, with no action taken against the WFI head, the wrestlers returned&nbsp;to the streets again in a couple of months.</p>

<p>After putting pressure on the Delhi Police, two FIRs were lodged and nearly ten complaints against Brij Bhushan Singh were made. <p>“I saw him (Brij Bhushan) standing next to her. She freed herself, pushed away, mumbled and moved away. She was standing next to the president but then came to the front. I saw how this woman wrestler was reacting, and she was uncomfortable. Something wrong happened to her. I didn’t see him doing the act, but he used to keep touching wrestlers, saying come here, come and stand here. From her (complainant’s) behaviour, it was clear something was wrong that day (during the photo session),” Jagbir said, as quoted in the Indian Express.</p>

<h2>‘…his hand was on my buttocks’</h2>

<p>In the two FIRs filed by the Delhi Police based on complaints by women wrestlers, including a minor – whose father has now taken back the complaint, it stated there were two instances of Brij Bhushan demanding "sexual favours", while 15 cases of sexual harassment, including ten episodes of him inappropriately touching, running hands over breasts, touching the navel; and several instances of intimidation, stalking were registered.</p>

<p>In one of the FIRs, the complainant said, “Since I was one of the tallest wrestlers, I was supposed to stand in the last row. While I was standing in the last row and waiting for the other wrestlers to take their positions, the accused came and stood alongside me. To my shock and surprise, I suddenly felt a hand on my buttock. I immediately looked back, and to my horror, the accused had placed his hands on my buttocks… I immediately tried to move away from that spot in order to protect myself from further inappropriate touching by the accused. However, when I tried moving away, I was forcibly held by my shoulder by the accused. Somehow, I managed to get free from the clutches of the accused. Since I could not have avoided getting the team photograph clicked, I decided to go and sit in the first row away from the accused.”</p>

<p>However, the Union Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur, said the ruling government is handling the issue 'sensitively', and that they had agreed to the wrestlers’ earlier demands.</p>

<p>“The wrestlers asked for an FIR, which has been filed by Delhi Police. A committee of administrators has been set up by the WFI as they demanded that its office bearers shouldn't be allowed to function," Thakur told reporters during a visit to Mumbai.</p>

After filing First Information Reports (FIRs) against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI)&nbsp;chief Brij Bhushan Singh Sharan over&nbsp;sexual harassment allegations,&nbsp;they have time and again called for his arrest. The investigations are still on. On Sunday (May 28), the protesting wrestlers marched towards the new parliament on the day of its inauguration for justice. However, they were detained by the Delhi Police.</p>

<p>As a result, Bajrang &amp; Co. decided to immerse their medals in the holy river Ganges in the city of Haridwar on Tuesday (May 31) but backed&nbsp;out later. <p>Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia, on behalf of all protesting peers, said in a statement on Twitter that all the wrestlers are going to put their medals in the holy river Ganges in the city of Haridwar at 6 pm&nbsp;India Standard Time on Tuesday, May 30.</p>

<p>The statement comes days after multiple First Information Reports (FIR) were filed against them on the charges of rioting and obstructing the discharge of duty by public servants. The police dragged the protesting athletes forcefully when they tried to move towards the new building of the Indian parliament on its inauguration day on Sunday, May 28.</p>

<p>Punia, in his statement on Twitter, said that there's no point in holding onto the medals now as the politicians, who once took pride in their medals, have failed them. The grappler also said that he, along with other wrestlers, would sit on fast unto death at India Gate in national capital New Delhi after putting their medals in the river. <p>Images and videos from the scene showed protesters and police shoving and pushing each other before officers forcefully dragged the wrestlers and pushed them into police vans. “This is wrong,” said Malik, while being detained. She added, “We were walking quietly, they dragged us forcefully and detained us and they're not even telling us where we will be taken.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the protesting wrestlers were detained, the police officers moved to clear the protest site, which has been active for over a month at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The detention had garnered condemnation and criticism from other athletes as well as opposition politicians in India. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The officials also later informed that the protesting wrestlers had been taken to different police stations in the city and said that legal action will be taken against them. “As you have seen the barricades have been broken and they moved ahead despite request and warning,” said Pathak, as per PTI, on Sunday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The FIR has been registered under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), pertaining to disobedience, obstructing public servants in the discharge of public functions, assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some of the additional charges also include 147 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC and Section 3 (mischief causing damage to public property) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, reported news agency PTI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She added, “Is this country under a dictatorship? The whole world is watching how the government is treating its players.” As of late Sunday, the police had 700 people detained across Delhi, including 109 protesters at Jantar Mantar. They were released later that day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Several top wrestlers in the country, including Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik alongside Vinesh Phogat, among others, are protesting against Brij Bhushan Singh, who is also a BJP MP from Kaiserganj, for alleged sexual harassment of&nbsp;women grapplers over a long period. These wrestlers, who had brought laurels for the country at various tournaments, are protesting at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since April 23rd, calling for&nbsp;the arrest of the WFI chief.</p>

<p>As quoted by the PTI, Bhushan said, the POCSO Act was brought by the Congress government without examining its various aspects and that it is often misused against children, the elderly and seers.</p>

<p>Brij Bhushan also said that the allegations levelled against him are false.</p>

<h2>Wrestlers still protesting at Jantar Mantar</h2>

<p>Earlier, after many failed attempts by the wrestlers to register an FIR against Brij Bhushan Singh, Delhi Police lodged two against him, with the first FIR about the sexual harassment allegations by a minor wrestler, for which Bhushan is booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, whereas, the second FIR is related to outraging modesty.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, when these wrestlers first protested against the WFI chief early this year, the Sports Ministry took action, and an overnight committee got formed, chaired by the legendary Mary Kom, to begin the probe into the matter. However, a few months later, when no action was taken against the accused, the wrestlers went back to&nbsp;protesting.</p>

<p>After several other sports personalities raised their voices against the same and backed the wrestlers, Delhi Police finally lodged two FIRs.</p>

<p>As of now, till the probe is finished and a decision is taken, the Sports Ministry has stopped all&nbsp;activities of the wrestling federation.</p>

<p>After several failed attempts by wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar trying to lodge an FIR against the accused, Brij Bhushan Singh, it got eventually registered by the Delhi Police on Friday. The FIRs were filed after Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta - who represents the Delhi Police, told an apex court bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha, that a case would get registered against the WFI chief.</p>

<p>The first of the two FIRs is related to allegations of a minor wrestler and is registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The second one is related to outraging the modesty of women.</p>

<p>Early this year, several medal-winning wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and others began the protest against Brij Bhushan over sexually harassing female wrestlers. While an oversight committee under the chairmanship of legendary MC Mary Kom was also formed to look into the matter, no FIR or arrest was made even after months of the probe.</p>

<p>In April, wrestlers returned to the site to resume the protest, and while many sports personalities and political leaders have come in their support, Brij Bhushan is not arrested yet.</p>

<p>The grapplers have asserted that till the time he gets behind the bars and findings of the probe are&nbsp;not made public, they are not going to leave.</p>

The FIRs were filed after Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta - who represents the Delhi Police, told an apex court bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha, that a case would get registered against the WFI chief. The first of the two FIRs is related to allegations of a minor wrestler and is registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The second one is related to outraging the modesty of women. Early this year, several medal-winning wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and others began the protest against Brij Bhushan over sexually harassing female wrestlers. While an oversight committee under the chairmanship of legendary MC Mary Kom was also formed to look into the matter, no FIR or arrest was made even after months of the probe. In April, wrestlers returned to the site to resume the protest, and while many sports personalities and political leaders have come in their support, Brij Bhushan is not arrested yet. The grapplers have asserted that till the time he gets behind the bars and findings of the probe are not made public, they are not going to leave.

A few days back, sports minister Anurag Thakur&nbsp;claimed that he spent 12 hours with the protesting wrestlers and heard their concerns. However, Punia gave a befitting reply to Thakur's claims.</p>

<p>“The sports minister is saying that he spoke to the players for 12 hours. Once ask the Sports Minister for how long you were sitting among the players. He sat for 2-4 minutes with the players. His officials were mediating with the players,” Punia told reporters a few days back.</p>

<p>"A few wrestlers are sitting in protest at Jantar Mantar. I have spent 12 hours hours with them -- seven hours on the first day and five hours the next day (in January). I listened to all their grievances, held a press conference at 2-2.30 at night, formed a committee after talking to them."</p>

<p>"They had asked to add a member and gave Babita Phogat's name, and we added her to the committee. There is nothing in our mind, we wanted an impartial probe," Thakur had revealed at a press conference in Shimla on Thursday (April 27).</p>

<p>Thakur added, "Whoever wanted to present their version before the oversight committee, was given a chance to do so, there were no restrictions. We even increased the timeline of the probe, there were 14 meetings. Whoever wanted to come, came. We gave a chance to every athlete to present their case."</p>

They first asked for my resignation as the federation chief, I said that would mean accepting the charges against me. Resignation is no big deal, but I won't do it as a criminal. I am not a criminal," he said, adding that it's not a tough time for him as he has always faced difficulties."</p>
