Russia marks Victory Day with a grand parade of military equipment on Red Square, as well as an address from Putin.
More than 20 world leaders were expected in Moscow for the May 9 parade.
"Our military and special services are taking all necessary measures to ensure that the celebration of the great victory takes place in a calm, stable and peaceful atmosphere," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
He also said authorities had jammed internet connections ahead of the parade, citing the threat from Kyiv.
"We need to take into account that dangerous neighbourhood that we have," Peskov said, referring to Ukraine.
"As long as guests are here, until May 10, we need to be ready for restrictions," he added, calling on Muscovites to be understanding.&nbsp;
The Kremlin's forces occupy a fifth of Ukraine and this spring hit the country with a string of deadly attacks on civilian areas.&nbsp;

Russians from outside Moscow visiting the heavily policed capital for the parade appeared unfazed.
"We are from Rostov-on-Don. Nothing scares us," said 22-year-old student Valeria Pavlova. The southern city serves as a command and logistics hub for the Ukraine offensive and has regularly been targeted.
"It's much calmer here," she added.
But scenes at airports in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and other cities were more chaotic.
Ukraine launched a barrage of drones at Russia earlier in the day, forcing airports to halt traffic with 60,000 people seeing their flights disrupted, according to Moscow.
Kyiv's drone attacks disrupted some 350 flights Tuesday and Wednesday, Russia's Association of Tour Operators said. Social media videos showed people sleeping on the floor and airports with rows of over a dozen planes queueing on the tarmac.
Ukraine's airspace has been forced to close since Russia launched its offensive in February 2022.

The ISW says the scale of Russia&rsquo;s troop deployment shows that Putin is still focused on taking full control of Ukraine and undermining NATO, regardless of international peace efforts. Although Trump signed a minerals deal with Ukraine this week, the U.S. has warned it could walk away from the negotiation process if progress isn't made soon.

The think tank said these figures reflect how Russia is now relying on &ldquo;low quality&rdquo; soldiers, which has made complex battlefield operations more difficult and slower. He added that he wanted to meet US President Donald Trump at Pope Francis's funeral in the Vatican later this week, "Yes, I would like to, I am ready. We are always ready to meet with our partners from the United States."&nbsp;

Speaking to Fox News on Monday (April 14), Witkoff described the 11 April meeting in St. Petersburg as &ldquo;compelling&rdquo; and said Putin had shown a willingness to work towards &ldquo;a permanent peace,&rdquo; although, he admitted, &ldquo;it took a while for us to get to&rdquo; that point.
&ldquo;This peace deal is about these so-called five territories,&rdquo; he explained. &ldquo;But there&rsquo;s so much more to it. I think we might be on the verge of something that would be very important for the world at large,&rdquo; he added.

Witkoff did not specify the territories in question, but he appeared to be referencing Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014, as well as Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. Moscow claimed the annexation of these four regions in 2022, although parts of them remain under Ukrainian control.

However, not everyone in Washington supports the direction of this diplomacy. The Wall Street Journal has reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg have both urged President Donald Trump not to agree to territorial concessions.
Despite these warnings, Trump is backing Witkoff&rsquo;s approach. According to Reuters, the envoy told the president that recognising Russian control of the four partially occupied regions would be the fastest route to a ceasefire.

According to Zelensky, there is evidence that the involvement of Chinese nationals is not limited to the two men captured. "We have information suggesting that there are many more Chinese citizens in the occupier's units than just these two. We are currently verifying all the facts&mdash;intelligence, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the relevant units of the Armed Forces are working on it," he said.
"Russia's involvement of China, along with other countries, whether directly or indirectly, in this war in Europe is a clear signal that Putin intends to do anything but end the war. He is looking for ways to continue fighting. This definitely requires a response," he added.

"The consequences of this, especially if the strikes are on nuclear infrastructure, could be catastrophic for the entire region," warned Ryabkov.
