<p>“We knew it was going to be tough bowling to Virat. We were able to contain him as much as we could and try to take wickets around him,” he added.</p>

While India would be looking to make early inroads come tomorrow morning to bowl out Australia, the visitors would be looking to cut down the lead and take out any chances of their loss.</p>

<p>Kohli, however, on his way to the century, broke another record, a common norm for him. The latest record is of number of innings taken by Kohli to reach to 75 international century mark. While Sachin took 566 innings to reach the same number of tons, Kohli reached there in his 552nd inning only.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although, it may not be possible for Kohli to reach the 100-ton mark, he certainly has a shot at breaking Sachin's record of most ODI centuries. Notably, Sachin retired with 51 Test and 49 ODI centuries - a record in both formats of the game.</p>

<p>Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli hit his 28th Test hundred on day four of the Ahmedabad Test against Australia, ending his three-year long wait for the same. On the way to his century, Kohli broke yet another batting record as he surpassed Brain Lara to become second-highest run scorer against Australia in international cricket.</p>

<p>Kohli achieved the feat on day three of the Test which he ended on 59 not out. The right-hand batsman, at the end of day three, had total 4,729 runs across all formats against Australia, going past West Indian great Brian Lara's 4,714-run mark. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list of most runs scored against Australia with a total of 6,707 runs in 110 international matches at an average of 49.68.</p>

<p>The moment that every Indian cricket fan was waiting for for the past three years came well and truly alive on Sunday in Ahmedabad as Virat Kohli completed his 28th Test hundred, his 75th overall in international cricket. In the process, he also equalled Sunil Gavaskar’s tally of scoring eight Test hundreds against Australia, only behind Sachin – who has 11 to his name.</p>

<p>It’s been more than three years since Virat last scored a Test hundred at the Eden Gardens against Bangladesh. Since November 2019, he did come close on a few occasions but could never cross the line. <p>A maiden Border-Gavaskar Trophy hundred for opener Shubman Gill powered India to 289 for three at stumps on day three of the final Test in Ahmedabad. Not only him, former India captain Virat Kohli also notched up his first fifty of the series. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara also chipped in with handy knocks of 35 and 42, respectively.</p>

<p>India began day three with both openers taking down the lone Aussie seamer Mitchell Starc, who kept bowling defensive line and length early on. Barring odd boundaries around fine leg area, it was Rohit’s trade-mark pull shot off Starc that saw the crowd go crazy. However, for the nth time in this series, Rohit gave away his wicket to Matthew Kuhnemann on 35 after a good start.</p>

<p>Standing tall on the other hand, Gill continued playing his short-arm jabs and kept churning out fours off bad deliveries. His partner Cheteshwar Pujara played a typical Pujara innings, tiring the Aussies in the 40 degree heat at the Narendra Modi Stadium.</p>

<p>In the meantime, Gill notched up his first Test hundred against Australia and soon after Todd Murphy trapped Pujara in front with a straight one on 42. Then walked down Virat Kohli who looked confident in turning tables around this time.</p>

<p>As both started to look comfortable out there, the experienced Nathan Lyon came up with a beauty of a delivery to dismiss Gill on 128 off 235 balls. Like Pujara, Gill was also found wanting while playing a wrong line as he was caught plumb in front.</p>

<p>For the second time in two Tests, Ravindra Jadeja was sent ahead of batter Shreyas Iyer, and this ploy worked well for India as both Kohli and Jadeja kept rotating strike, further frustrating the Aussies.</p>

<p>Before stumps on day three, Virat also brought up his first fifty, the first since January 2022, much to the delight of everyone present inside the stadium. India ended day three on 289 for three as they still train by 191 runs.</p>

Against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup last year Virat ended his century drought in international cricket and&nbsp;despite hitting a couple more hundreds in the white-ball format prior to this series,&nbsp;he hasn't looked comfortable replicating his same form in Tests. Speaking of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series itself, Kohli has just scored 111 runs across three Tests, let alone being a threat to the opposition in home conditions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Talking about Kohli, Ponting said he's not bothered about Virat's form as he knows he will bounce back. Admitting a batter is as aware of his poor form as those who are watching and writing about him is, Ponting believes Kohli will find a way back soon.</p>

<p>"For Kohli, I have said that over and over, champion players always find a way. He might be in a bit of a drought at the moment and might be not scoring runs which we all expect him to score but he is a realist as well. <p>Celebrity couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli were recently spotted praying at the Mahakaleshwar temple in the Indian city of Ujjain along with other devotees. Pictures and clips of the two sitting on the temple floor and doing rituals&nbsp;have gone viral on social media.&nbsp;While&nbsp;Anushka was seen wearing a light pink saree, Virat chose a white number.&nbsp;At one point, he is seen speaking to the priest with folded hands.</p>

"Look, you play to win tournaments. I captained in Champions Trophy 2017 (reached the final), 2019 World Cup (reached the semifinal), I captained in World Test Championship (reached the final), and T20 World Cup in 2021 (failed to qualify for the knockouts). After three (four) ICC tournaments, I was considered as a failed captain," Kohli said.</p>

However, if you have a good win percentage and are tactically very strong, but haven't won a big tournament, it wouldn't be fair to say that you haven't been a good captain."</p>

<p>Butt further added, "There might have been a few mistakes in high-pressure games, or it might just have been a case of luck. Not winning an ICC tournament doesn't tell us that he [Virat Kohli] wasn't a strong leader."</p>
