<p>The internet is abuzz with mentions of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) a.k.a., the green comet, which on Wednesday could be seen with the naked eye.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per NASA, the comet paid our planet a visit after a good 50,000 years. It was a rare feast for stargazers and astronomers alike as people around the globe witnessed the astronomical event.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was a one-in-a-million sight — in a very literal sense — as estimates say that the next possible sighting won't happen for millions of years.</p>

<p>The comet passed just 26 million miles (or 42 million kilometres) from Earth.</p>

<p>According to NASA's Paul Chodas, While plenty of comets have graced the sky over the past year, "this one seems probably a little bit bigger and therefore a little bit brighter and it’s coming a little bit closer to the Earth’s orbit".</p>

<p>The team was the first to explore potential new meteorite sites which were mapped using satellite imagery.</p>

<p>Valdes says she’s eager to see what the analyses of the meteorites reveal, because "Studying meteorites helps us better understand our place in the universe,"&nbsp;adding that she was eager to find what the meteorites reveal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per NASA’s Perseverance Rover, which is also wandering Mars’s surface, the temperature in the planet’s Jezero Crater has only briefly risen higher than Zhurong’s lowest heat requirement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But given that Perseverance is nearer to the red planet’s equator - located around seven degrees latitude south of its Chinese counterpart - it may be experiencing slightly more favourable conditions than Zhurong.</p>

<p><strong>How is Perseverance awake?</strong></p>

<p>NASA's 2020 rover Perseverance, meanwhile, is not asleep. It is nuclear-powered and doesn’t need to hibernate.</p>

<p>Zhurong generates its power using solar arrays. Mars is known for its sand storms and there is concern that the dust from them may be hindering the rover and its solar arrays’ ability to generate power.</p>

<p>While Zhurong’s panels are made using anti-dust material and it has a vibration setting to shake off the dust, even that feature requires some power. The rover has to be active to “shake it off”.</p>

<p><strong>What now?</strong></p>

<p>The rover's mission with which China achieved the status of being the second country to reach the surface of Mars is already a great success.</p>

<p>But only time can tell if it will wake up to achieve bigger and better things.</p>

<p>Scientists have made an amazing discovery. In an inhospitable valley in the Chilean Patagonia, they have come across the remains of four species of dinosaurs. <p>Chilean Antarctic Institute (Inach), in collaboration with the University of Chile and the University of Texas, made this discovery on an expedition.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Talking to AFP, Marcelo Leppe, director of Inach, said, "It’s always super exciting in scientific terms to find something that has not previously been discovered or described."</p>

<p>As per the findings, the dinosaur species, which includes a megaraptor, inhabited the area at the end of the Cretaceous period, between 66 and 75 million years ago.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Interestingly, the megaraptor belongs to the theropod family, of which the famous T-Rex is also a member. These carnivorous dinosaurs were at the top of the food chain and were equipped with raptor claws, small teeth for tearing their prey, and large upper limbs.</p>

<p>As per Jared Amudeo, a researcher with the University of Chile, the Unenlagiinae remains has a "novel evolutionary character, which would indicate that this is a new species of unenlagine or perhaps a representative of a different clade (group)."</p>

'Super exciting' find: Researchers discover four species of dinosaurs, including a potentially new one

<p>Dinosaurs inhabited this planet millions of years ago and in the last&nbsp;200 or so years, humanity has found much evidence of the mighty beasts. You would think that given that the very first evidence of dinosaurs was found in the early 1600s, we would know almost everything there is to know about them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, that's far from the truth: we are still finding surprising and fascinating discoveries that add to our knowledge. For example, a scientist recently spotted an extremely rare find that tells us more about what these beasts ate; this time it's a mammal on the menu.</p>

<p>In the first such find of the 21st century Hans Larsson, a professor of biology at McGill University’s Redpath Museum in Montreal while visiting a museum collection in China, spotted a mammal's foot preserved inside the fossilised guts of a Microraptor zhaoianus.</p>

<p>This is only the 21st known example of a fossilised dinosaur and its last meal. The fossil was discovered in the early 2000s in Liaoning in northeastern China.</p>

<p>The Microraptor zhaoianus was a small, up to three metres long feathered therapod, i.e. a small dinosaur that walked on two legs.</p>

<p>"At first, I couldn’t believe it. There was a tiny rodent-like mammal foot about a centimetre (0.4 inches) long perfectly preserved inside a Microraptor skeleton," said Larsson, as per a CNN report.</p>

<p>He added that finds like these are the only "solid evidence" researchers have about the food consumption of these long-extinct animals and that even these finds are very rare.</p>

<p>What makes the discovery so amazing is that previous fossilised specimens of the species showed proof of them consuming fish, birds and lizards. However, "this new find adds a small mammal to their diet, suggesting these dinosaurs were opportunistic and not picky eaters,” says Larrson.</p>

For example, a scientist recently spotted an extremely rare find that tells us more about what these beasts ate; this time it's a mammal on the menu. In the first such find of the 21st century Hans Larsson, a professor of biology at McGill University’s Redpath Museum in Montreal while visiting a museum collection in China, spotted a mammal's foot preserved inside the fossilised guts of a Microraptor zhaoianus. <p>As per an Asia Nikkei report, the financial support stands to be raised up to 1 million yen ($7,500) per child from the current 300,000 yen ($2,314).&nbsp;The programme which was launched in the year 2019, encourages families with children to move to areas with low, ageing populations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>People who have resided in 23 wards of Tokyo for more than five years in the last decade are eligible for this aid. Also eligible are parents who have been commuting to these wards from other areas in Tokyo during the same time frame.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Every household of movers will in principle receive one million yen. The financial aid increases with every child by an additional 300,000 yen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This aid is conditional on meeting one of three conditions: if they remotely continue with the same work they did prior to re-location, they get employment in a small or midsize company in the area they relocated to or start a new business there.</p>

<p>In a December 1 bust-up, videos of which went viral on social media,&nbsp;opposition MPs Mamadou Niang and Massata Samb slapped and then kicked pro-government legislator Amy Ndiaye during a chaotic session of the parliament.</p>

<p>The proceedings over the assault case started on December 19th. In spite of video evidence to the contrary, the two MPs denied having hit Ndiaye. their legal teams also argued that given their status as lawmakers, they were immune from prosecution. However, this defence was rejected by the court.</p>

<p>While the prosecutors had sought a two-year sentence Niang and Samb were only given six-month sentences. Apart from the jail sentences the two legislators have also been handed 100,000 CFA francs ($160) and have been ordered to jointly pay five mn francs (approx $8,100) in damages.</p>

<p>Prosecutor Baboucar Cisse reported that his client was pregnant at the time of the scuffle. Following the incident where she was kicked in her belly, Ndiaye fainted and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per an AFP report, the incident was triggered by a comment Ndiaye made about Serigne Moustapha Sy, an influential Muslim leader and opposition supporter.</p>

<p>As per Guardian, all eight planets appeared only 1.5 degrees apart on Wednesday night and will reach their closest point or conjunction today (Thursday, December 29) at 2100 GMT (0230 IST).</p>

Rare 'treat' for skywatchers: All solar system planets visible to the naked eye

<p>They last walked that walk a million years back and since then the majestic animals have lain silent and mostly undisturbed in their permafrost graves. But, now curious scientists have decided to disturb their slumber and attempt to 'reawaken' ancient, Stone Age viruses.</p>

<p>As per researchers, northeast Siberia is home to the remains of the woolly mammoth, the woolly rhinoceros, other extinct species and...dormant ancient viruses.</p>

<p>The project is being carried out by Vector or Russia's State Research Centre of Virology and Biotechnology and as per Daily Mail, it aims to extract cellular material that contains viruses that killed the giant beasts and perform experiments on them in a lab.</p>

<p>However, there's concern that given the fact that the human bodies of today are strangers to these prehistoric 'paleoviruses' and if they were to jump the species barrier, the coronavirus pandemic may end up looking like the less deadly outbreak.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Given that the woolly mammoth were huge animals the size of today's elephants which are much larger than an average human, the viruses that killed them are definitely a cause of concern.</p>

<p>The scientific community too has raised the alarm. &nbsp;Jean-Michel Claverie, a professor of microbiology at the University of Aix-Marseille in France said that the Russian research "is terrible. I'm totally against it".</p>

<p>He added that it "is very, very risky. Our immune systems have never encountered these types of viruses. Some of them could be 200,000 or even 400,000 years old. But ancient viruses that infected animals or humans could still be infectious."</p>

<p>But the sad truth is that even without Vector's reawakening of the ancient viruses chances are something deadly will slip out of the Arctic's frozen waters sooner or later. As global warming slowly melts permafrost the global scientific community has already raised alarm over deadly diseases that may escape their "frozen prisons".</p>

<p>As per a survey of about 2,000 US adults from earlier this month, one-third of GenZers "consult" TikTok for health advice while another 44 per cent turn to YouTube, the qualified doctors are the third option...if that.</p>

<p>The survey was conducted by CharityRx, a discount pharmacy service, and with it, the company attempted to " explore how the spread of health information, treatment options and health authorities is impacting consumer behaviour when it comes to managing personal wellbeing".</p>

<p>At least 36 people were injured, some seriously when their flight met with "severe turbulence".</p>

<p>This happened on a Hawaiian Airlines flight on its way from Phoenix to Honolulu. At least 20 passengers including a 14-month-old child had to be taken to the emergency room.</p>

<p>Eleven patients were in serious condition said Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The hurt as per Daily Mail includes both passengers and three members of the flight crew.</p>

<p>As per a CNN report citing Honolulu EMS, patients' injuries include serious head injuries, cuts, bruising and some even lost consciousness.</p>

Scientists develop a solution for foggy spectacles

<p>A 12-year-old mountain lion, famous among residents of Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles had to be put down after being captured just days earlier.&nbsp;Named P-22, the ageing mountain lion has for a decade been living in the shadows of Hollywood Hills. As per California officials, he was euthanised on Saturday (December 16) due to severe health problems.</p>

<p>As per Reuters, there were also concerns about the animal's health as it was feared that he had been struck by a car. Additionally, P-22 was believed to be suffering from other health problems.</p>

<p>Officials at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) said that the mountain lion was put to sleep at 9 am on Saturday.</p>

<p>Before that tests were conducted to ascertain the extent of the damage he had suffered. They revealed "significant trauma to the mountain lion’s head, right eye and internal organs, confirming the suspicion of recent injury, such as a vehicle strike," said the officials.</p>

<p>He was also found to be suffering from irreversible kidney disease, chronic weight loss, extensive parasitic skin infection over his entire body and localized arthritis due to which "compassionate euthanasia under general anaesthesia" was recommended by the medical team at San Diego Zoo Safari Park.</p>

<p>The UK Office of communications or Ofcom did an in-depth survey involving 100 smart speaker owners and 15 non-owners. They found that a large number of survey participants reported that the speakers acted as a "companion" with whom they can talk.</p>

<p>"Some described their speaker as being like a companion, particularly if they lived alone. They felt it was good for combatting loneliness and liked the fact they could talk to their speakers," said Ofcom on its website.</p>

Like this evening, I was able to just ask it to put these lights on. Years ago, before I had that facility... I would have had to ask people to do things manually," said one such user.</p>

<p>The wild cat P22 is reportedly around 12 years old and is famous for roaming through residential areas. The male feline has been captured on CCTV frequently but his recent "agitated" behaviour&nbsp;is new and had alarmed the authorities.</p>

<p>"P-22 is a remarkably old cat in the wild and, after being deemed responsible for killing a leashed pet last month, may be exhibiting signs of distress," said the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The average lifespan of these large felines in the wild is around 10 years.</p>

<p>On Monday, Fish and Wildlife Department officers rang the bell at Sarah Picchi, a Los Feliz resident's house, &nbsp;and informed her "You have a lion in your back yard".</p>

<p>Talking to Los Angeles Times, Pichi revealed that the lion was tranquilised on Monday morning.</p>

<p>Elon Musk is no stranger to controversies or making news and the Twitter CEO has done it again.</p>

<p>On Sunday, the "world's richest person" as he was introduced, took the stage at a Dave Chappelle show in San Francisco. The controversial billionaire took the stage yelling Chappelle’s famous Rick James impression: "I’m rich, b***h" reports CNN.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This comes as the much-coveted Twitter blue subscription service has been announced for the third time. Maybe, this was the announcement Musk planned to make on stage.</p>

<p>As Musk tried to speak, Chapelle said, "sounds like some of those people you fired are in the audience," referring to the thousands the new Twitter owner sacked after taking over the social media giant.</p>

<p>When something like this happens it is impossible that the incident would stay off of Twitter. A user by the handle @omnihedge tweeted at Musk about the "crowd full of boos", to which Musk in a since-deleted tweet replied it "was 90% cheers &amp; 10% boos."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The boos were expected given the turbulence that Musk taking over Twitter has brought with it; from the massive layoffs to the "hardcore" culture forcing the leftover employees to sleep in the office, to the coveted blue tick that once had to be earned but now is "for sale", there's a lot of anger.</p>

<p>Speaking of the now-paid blue tick, its relaunch comes as Musk tries to reduce Twitter's dependence on advertisers.</p>

<p>After 20 years, a guy in mid-Wales who spent £25,000 (US$ 30679.62) on a fake airport sign is ending the joke. A Llandegley International billboard has been a well-known sight close to the Powys community for the past 20 years. Although it appears to be a regular road sign, it directs drivers to an airport that doesn't actually exist. The owner made the decision to remove the sign after paying thousands of pounds to build and maintain it. Since 2002, there has been a sign pointing cars to Terminals one&nbsp;and three&nbsp;at Llandegley International Airport along the A44 between Rhayader and Kington.</p>

<p>But if you follow the directions and go the two and a half miles, you will arrive in a field outside the Powys village of Llandegley, not an airport or even an airfield.</p>

<p>The person behind it, Nicholas Whitehead, is a journalist who formerly partnered with Terry Jones of Monty Python and edited the Brecon and Radnor Express' Radnor edition.</p>

<p>He said: "It started off as a wild conversation with friends one evening in Llandegley to BBC.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We thought of renting a sign for something that wasn't really there, possibly a project that didn't exist, and we settled on the airport.</p>
