WION's review reads: The movie largely benefits from having source material which is considered to be one of the milestones in Tamil literature. While no protagonist gets massive screen time alone, it is the overall story which keeps the audience engaged. Comparisons with a movie like Bahubali is natural in this case but the loud bravado is mostly missing and is replaced with the study of human ambition.

Karthi plays the role of Aditha’s trusted lieutenant Vandiyathevan and it is through the eyes of this character that the audience is introduced to the world of 'Ponniyin Selvan'. The actor brings a certain mischief and playfulness to the character which instantly makes him a favourite among the audience. Vikram brings out an emotional side in the hot-tempered Aditha while Jayam Ravi takes some time but ultimately settles down well as the regal and much-loved Arunmozhi. Read full review here:

Britain's Prince Harry, singer Elton John and other individuals have launched legal action against the publisher of the Daily Mail newspaper, alleging phone tapping and other breaches of privacy, a law firm for some of the group said on Thursday.

Associated Newspapers, a publisher of the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday and the Mail Online, one of the most widely read news websites in the world, said it "utterly and unambiguously" denied the allegations.

The others involved in the litigation are the actresses Elizabeth Hurley and Sadie Frost, Elton John's husband and filmmaker David Furnish, and Doreen Lawrence, the mother of Black teenager Stephen Lawrence who was murdered in a racist attack in 1993.

The individuals had become aware of "highly distressing" evidence revealing they had been victims of breaches of privacy by Associated Newspapers, law firm Hamlins said in a statement.

It said the breaches included placing listening devices inside people's cars and homes, commissioning the bugging of live, private telephone calls, payment of police officials for sensitive information, and impersonating individuals to obtain medical records.

"They have now therefore banded together to uncover the truth, and to hold the journalists responsible fully accountable, many of whom still hold senior positions of authority and power today," Hamlins said in its statement.

Hamlins said it was representing Harry, younger son of King Charles, and Frost, while Lawrence, Hurley, John and Furnish are being represented by the law firm gunnercooke.

"We utterly and unambiguously refute these preposterous smears which appear to be nothing more than a pre-planned and orchestrated attempt to drag the Mail titles into the phone hacking scandal concerning articles up to 30 years old," a spokesman for the publisher said.

"These unsubstantiated and highly defamatory claims - based on no credible evidence - appear to be simply a fishing expedition by claimants and their lawyers, some of whom have already pursued cases elsewhere."

PREVIOUS ACTION

Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has already brought a number of lawsuits against Associated Newspapers' publications.

He is currently suing the Mail on Sunday for libel over an article which stated he had tried to keep secret details of his legal fight to reinstate his police protection, and last year won damages from the same paper over claims he had turned his back on the Royal Marines.

His wife Meghan also won a privacy case against the publisher last December for printing a letter she had written to her estranged father.

The couple's relations with Britain's tabloid press collapsed following their marriage in 2018, and they have previously said they would have "zero engagement" with four major British papers, including the Daily Mail, accusing them of false and invasive coverage.

Media intrusion was a major factor they cited in their decision to step down from royal duties and move to the United States two years ago.

Elton John also defended the couple himself after newspapers accused them of hypocrisy for using his private jet for a flight to stay at his home in the south of France while calling for action to tackle climate change.

A spokesperson for the couple said they had no comment beyond the Hamlins' statement.

Others involved in the action have also previously brought legal action against major media organisations. Frost was awarded 260,250 pounds ($290,595.15) compensation in 2015 after she and seven other celebrity figures sued Mirror Group Newspapers for hacking messages on their phones.

Hurley, John and Furnish also settled phone-hacking claims against News Group Newspapers – publisher of the now-defunct News of the World – shortly before trial in 2019.

Snoopy will not be just travelling, he's assigned to the job of zero gravity indicator on the spacecraft, and he will visually indicate when the spaceship has reached the ''weightlessness of microgravity''.
The US space agency made the exciting announcement via a BTS video showing the whole journey of Snoopy from scratch.

This will be the first time when the little white dog is going to the Moon.
A new edition of Meghan Markle`s Archetype podcast, which launched last month with Serena Williams as the first guest, has finally come out.

Duchess of Sussex`s podcast released its most recent episode as the first one following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II earlier in September. The most recent episode followed a discussion on toxic Asian stereotypes featuring journalist Lisa Ling and actor-comedian Margret Cho.

Meghan and the guests discussed a variety of topics, including their own experiences, how they overcame stereotypes, the problematic representations of Asian women on television and in the media, and much more. The Duchess recalled the various cultures she was exposed to while growing up in Los Angeles and stressed that many Asian cultures were a part of her life in the opening scene of the `Demystification of Dragon Lady` episode.

Meghan acknowledged that she had been ignorant of the stereotypes that many Asian women endured for a very long time and emphasised the negative portrayal of Asians on silver screen. She said, "This toxic stereotyping of women of Asian descent... this doesn`t just end once the credits roll.

Movies like Austin Powers and Kill Bill presented these caricatures of women of Asian descent as oversexualized or aggressive."Before the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, three episodes of Archetype were broadcast, featuring guests like Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, and Mindy Kaling who seemed to dispel stereotypes about women. Following the late monarch`s funeral on September 19, a week of mourning was observed by Queen Elizabeth`s family. After that, the members of the Royal family went back to work.

The podcast has resumed, but the release date for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry`s Netflix docu-series has been further delayed as a result of the Queen`s death.

S. S. Rajamouli's epic action drama 'RRR' starring Jr. N. T. R. and Ram Charan in the leads is one of the most successful movies of this year.
A well-known Hollywood writer and producer Eric Weinberg has been arrested under multiple sexual assault charges. Eric, who has co-produced the superhit show 'Scrubs' has been charged with sexual assault by five women in six years from 2014 to 2019, the Los Angeles County district attorney said on Wednesday.

Eric, 61, was first arrested at his Los Angeles home in July but was released later. This week, on Tuesday, the veteran producer was arrested again. However, he was released the same day on a $5 million bond.

Weinberg has been charged with serious charges like rape, forcible sexual penetration, sexual battery by restraint, oral copulation, and false imprisonment by use of violence among many others.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in a press release, "The defendant relied on his Hollywood credentials to lure young women for photo shoots where he allegedly sexually assaulted them.''

"Power and influence can corrupt some to hurt others that often leads to a lifetime of trauma for those who are victimized." His arraignment is scheduled on October 25.
Weinberg, 62, has been arrested previously under serious charges, but he was released due to the lack of evidence.

Art experts in the Netherlands said Thursday they had discovered an important painting by the French Cubist Fernand Leger that had been hidden for more than a century on the back of another canvas.

The unknown work 'Smoke over the Rooftops', believed to date from 1911-12, was on the flip-side of 'Bastille Day', made a year later, according to conservation specialists Studio Redivivus.

Partially damaged and covered with a hard glue-like layer during its lost years, it has now been painstakingly restored and reveals a "turning point" in the work of Leger, a Paris contemporary of Picasso.

"It really is a discovery," Gwendolyn Boeve-Jones, director of the Hague-based Studio Redivivus, told AFP.

The work is believed to be part of a series in which Leger painted the view from his studio of the Paris skyline towards Notre Dame, repeatedly focusing on the smoking chimneys.

Dutch art historian Sjraar van Heugten said only seven from the series were previously known to still exist, and the new work shows "hugely important" advances in Leger's use of colour and abstraction.

The story of the lost Leger begins around 110 years ago when the artist (1881-1955) gave the "Bastille Day" painting to his friend Marc Duchene as a wedding present in 1912 or 1913.

But Duchene was killed in World War I, and while the painting stayed in his family the "sad memories" meant it was never displayed and "remained unknown for years", Van Heugten said.

- 'Looks amazing' -

"Bastille Day" was then bought from Duchene's heirs in 1999 by the Triton Collection, a private art foundation that still owns the painting.

It found there had been some kind of restoration on the back, probably during the 1990s, but it was unknown exactly when and by whom -- and in any case, it had merely caused further damage.

The mystery of what exactly was on the back remained largely intact, even as "Bastille Day" was shown in several galleries.

"It was covered to a large degree with a white-grey material and the collectors had been told it was nothing really to worry about, it's not important," said Boeve-Jones.

A backing board also obscured the image.

But the enigma continued to intrigue Boeve-Jones, who moved to the Netherlands from the United States to work at Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum before setting up her own studio.

"When I was doing a condition check... I saw some of this which was exposed, and I thought wow, that looks amazing," said Boeve-Jones.

In 2016 the owners asked her to inspect further and Boeve-Jones, who says she has "known Leger my whole life", turned detective by poring over the internet and through art publications.

The removal of the glue-like stuff then made it easier to see the distinctive forms and colours beneath, especially the billowing smoke.

"It wasn't that difficult to see that it belonged in some way to the Fumees Sur Les Toits (Smoke over the Rooftops) series," she said.

- 'Wonderful painting' -

High-tech imaging techniques looking at the layers of paint and at damage from the frame then allowed her team to restore the painting to its former glory.

The painting's significance quickly emerged, placing it as a "huge leap" from Leger's darker earlier work to the more abstract and colourful style that the series pioneered.

"It's not just that the painting was covered up, that's interesting to a degree -- but what we've found is the role that this must have played in his journey," said Boeve-Jones.

Experts were sure that it was a genuine Leger due to the provenance, to the brushwork and even the 'stretcher' of the canvas that has his signature on.

"This says Leger all over it," she said.

Van Heugten, previously head of collections at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, said he was "very surprised by the quality" of a work once feared "hopelessly damaged."

"It's a wonderful painting and I'm very glad the restoration was so successful," he said.

The newly-discovered painting goes on display at the Kroller-Muller Museum in the central Netherlands as part of an exhibition on the rooftop series from 19 November until April 2.

It will be displayed in a glass cabinet that will allow viewers to see both sides.

Biden administration proposes an Artificial Intelligence Bill of Rights

America's gross national debt has reached an unfortunate high of $31 trillion for the first time ever, revealed a Treasury Department report on Tuesday. The artificial borrowing cap Congress imposed on the US government is progressively getting closer as debt edges closer to the statutory ceiling of $31.4 trillion.

The debt threshold not only spells trouble for the nation's economy but also poses a problem for Joe Biden who will once again be running for President in 2024.

He had promised to reduce US budget deficits i.e., what government earns through tax revenue vs the money it spends by $1 trillion over a decade. However, as per estimates by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates, his policies have added nearly $5 trillion to the deficit since he took office in 2020.

As wildfire groups warn that human activities are leading to a depletion of the nation's habitats and that many of Australia's species are just clinging to existence, Australia has now listed 15 new species as threatened. They include a small wallaby and grey snake.

On Tuesday, the country launched an ambitious 'zero-extinction' plan, that over the next 10 years would try and halt slide of 110 "priority species" into extinction. It would create a "halo effect" on interdependent species in the same habitat, said Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek.

Protection of 20 "priority places" from further degradation is also included. Plibersek remarked that it could create "little Noah's Arks of places returning to healthy populations of plants and animals".

As wildfire groups warn that human activities are leading to a depletion of the nation's habitats and that many of Australia's species are just clinging to existence, Australia has now listed 15 new species as threatened.

Competition is good, it pushes you to do better, and aim higher. When it comes to an auction competition or rather a competitive bidding can be the one thing that makes it a success. That's what happened in France, a bidding war over a vase worth a little less than $2,000 led to it being sold for a whopping $7.59 million. The total came to $8.99 million after factoring in the seller's fee.

The vase in question is an "ordinary" Chinese vase, but it was mistakenly presumed by bidders to be a rare 18th-century artefact, which resulted in the object being sold at around 4,000 times its estimated value.

As per Guardian, the vase which is a tianqiuping style porcelain was put up for auction by a French woman living in the nation's overseas territory. It was left to her by her late mother. She had not even seen the 54-centimetre tall vase and had arranged for it to be directly picked from her mother's estate in Brittany.

The auction house was informed that it belonged to the seller's grandmother who was a Parisian collector "in the last century."
