<p>According to LiveScience, blue holes are large, undersea vertical caves or sinkholes found in coastal regions. They are also typically home to a range of plant and marine life, including corals, sea turtles and sharks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Blue holes form when seawater meets limestone. Since limestone is very porous, the water easily permeates the rock while the chemicals present in the water slowly eat the limestone away over time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, blue holes, due to a lack of proper means to access them remain largely insufficiently studied by scientists. In an email, a coastal geologist from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Christopher G. Smith told LiveScience, “They are largely poorly understood.”</p>

<p>The coastal geologist added that the unique seawater chemistry in blue holes suggests that they might interact with groundwater and possibly aquifers. Blue holes also contain very little oxygen, while sunlight only shines on their surface but despite these factors, they are home to various species that have adapted to the low-oxygen environment.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What do we know about the recent discovery?</strong></p>

<p>Taam ja’, spans an area of 147,000 square feet and also has steep side slopes with a nearly 80-degree angle which form the “large conic structure,” noted the study. The mouth of the cavern sits around 15 feet below sea level. In 2021, scientists from El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (Ecosur), a public research centre coordinated by Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) first discovered the sinkhole.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In one video, two Chinese employees can be seen telling some locals who came to the Mini stand that the complimentary ice cream had run out, before quickly handing a tub to a foreign attendee.</p>

<p>"This has taken away my good feelings towards BMW," said one Weibo user.</p>

<p>Reuters reported citing a source with insight into the situation that the event occurred after 300 servings of ice cream intended for guests had been distributed by the booth. The foreigner in the video was a BMW employee.</p>

<p>According to the insider, who requested anonymity owing to the sensitivity of the situation, the personnel were not BMW employees but rather temporary workers hired locally for the show.</p>

<p>Oliver Zipse, the Chief Executive Officer of BMW, highlighted in presentations earlier this week the significance of the Chinese market to the automobile manufacturer by claiming that many of its automobiles' characteristics were inspired by China and that the nation was in front of the curve globally in terms of auto trends.</p>

It&nbsp;also distinguishes between “withdrawal” and “consumption,” as the former refers to the physical extraction of water from rivers, lakes, and other sources, as opposed to the latter which relates to the water loss due to evaporation when used in data centres.&nbsp;</p>

The yet-to-be peer-reviewed research, posted as a pre-print in arXiv also estimates a conversation comprising 20-50 questions with the AI chatbot in a single system may “drink” a “500ml bottle of water”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“While a 500ml bottle of water might not seem too much, the total combined water footprint for inference is still extremely large, considering ChatGPT’s billions of users,” said the researchers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The water consumed also refers to clean freshwater (to prevent corrosion and bacterial development) which the data centres use for generating electricity as well as for cooling servers to run AI models, which was studied using a framework created by the researchers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Therefore, researchers have expressed their concerns over the massive consumption of water by these AI chatbots and called for the companies to “take social responsibility” and address their “water footprint”.&nbsp;</p>

AI models like ChatGPT ‘drink’ an enormous volume of water, finds study

<p>A man in China has been sentenced to six months in jail after he scared around 1,100 chickens to death over a feud with his neighbour. In two separate incidents and a curious court case, reported by the state-owned media, the man whose last name was Gu has been imprisoned and fined after he scared thousands of his neighbour’s chickens to death.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What was the feud about?</strong></p>

<p>The duo’s feud had reportedly begun in April last year when Gu became upset with his neighbour with the surname Zhong as he chopped down his trees without informing him. “Kill the chicken to scare the monkey,” is an old Chinese idiom which roughly translates to the best way of intimidating&nbsp;a big rival is destroying a smaller one, which Gu has seemingly taken too literally.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>The two incidents</strong></p>

<p>According to the state-owned China Daily newspaper, while Gu’s goal was unclear, one night he snuck into Zhong’s property and shined a flashlight on the chickens on the farm which resulted in around 500 chickens fleeing in a corner and crushing one another to death. Subsequently, he was detained by the local police and forced to pay Zhong a&nbsp; compensation of 3,000 yuan ($436).&nbsp;</p>

<p>This left Gu more angry and he returned to Zhong’s farm and repeated the action only this time it resulted in the death of 640 chickens. According to Chinese authorities, the 1,100 dead chickens were estimated to be worth a total of 13,840 yuan ($2,015).&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What’s the verdict?</strong></p>

<p>The court in Hengyang county of central China’s Hunan province delivered its verdict on Gu’s case who at that point had repeatedly sneaked into Zhong’s property. As per China Daily, the court found him guilty of intentionally causing “property loss” and sentenced him to serve six months in prison with one year of probation. This was a smaller sentence as Gu had reportedly shown remorse for his actions.&nbsp;<br />

The two incidents According to the state-owned China Daily newspaper, while Gu’s goal was unclear, one night he snuck into Zhong’s property and shined a flashlight on the chickens on the farm which resulted in around 500 chickens fleeing in a corner and crushing one another to death. Subsequently, he was detained by the local police and forced to pay Zhong a compensation of 3,000 yuan ($436). This left Gu more angry and he returned to Zhong’s farm and repeated the action only this time it resulted in the death of 640 chickens. According to Chinese authorities, the 1,100 dead chickens were estimated to be worth a total of 13,840 yuan ($2,015). What’s the verdict? The court in Hengyang county of central China’s Hunan province delivered its verdict on Gu’s case who at that point had repeatedly sneaked into Zhong’s property. As per China Daily, the court found him guilty of intentionally causing “property loss” and sentenced him to serve six months in prison with one year of probation. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue,” Twitter’s official account had previously stated its official handle. However, the company has not revealed how it will deal with the accounts of people who have “notable” mentioned on it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As of now, only individual Twitter users who will have verified blue check marks are those paying for Twitter Blue, which in the United States cost around $8 a month on the web and $11 per month through the in-app payment on iOS and Android. However, the service is now said to be available worldwide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The microblogging platform first introduced verified accounts in 2009 to help users identify celebrities, politicians, companies, news organisations, and other accounts of “public interest” that were genuine and not impostor or parody accounts and did not charge for them. <p>On April 3, 1973 the standard to identify products was agreed by a number of large retailers and food companies. It later became known as EAN-13, which stands for European Article Number and the number of digits in the barcode.</p>

<p>GS1 believes moving to the QR code format allows the sharing of far more information about products as well as content, enabling new uses that will be accessible to consumers as well as retailers.</p>

<p>As smartphones can read QR codes, they are an easy way to send people to websites to get additional information, leading to their widespread adoption by companies, artists and even museums. They are even used by payment systems.</p>

<p>"We regret to inform you of a cyber incident at Ferrari, where a threat actor was able to access a limited number of systems in our IT environment," Ferrari informed in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The letter dated&nbsp;March 21 added that Ferrari was "recently contacted by a threat actor with a ransom demand related to certain client contact details". However, the Maranello-based company said it was not going to bow in front of the hacker and pay the ransom.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The number of Russians acquiring new passports with revised gender markers soared in 2022,&nbsp;according to a report by the independent news source Mediazona. In contrast to 554 passports in 2021 and 428 in 2020, 936 new passports were issued last year citing "sex change" according to statistics provided by Russia's interior ministry.&nbsp;The statistics also revealed that the sudden rise started in March, right after Russia invaded Ukraine.</p>

<p>“Human rights advocates who spoke to Mediazona said that the spike is likely a result of the war in Ukraine and Russia’s crackdown on LGBTQ+ rights as transgender people seek to avoid mobilisation and fear that authorities could ban transitioning altogether in the future,” the report said.</p>

<p>One of the passengers shared a video of the dramatic incident which clearly showed the visible gaping rear door on the plane. It also showed the passenger who recorded it sitting calmly in his seat, as a curtain flapped behind him by the open door.</p>

<p>A Ukraine-born six-month-old black panther has found a new home in a faraway land, in France. Kiara, the black panther was born in a war-torn country and was also a victim of exotic animal trafficking but has now found a new and much safer dwelling at a wildlife refuge in France.&nbsp;Veterinarian Jean-Christophe Gerard told AFP, that Kiara "escaped a tragic path in life" and now reached safely to France. The panther with shining black fur and striking green eyes was just a few weeks old when the "private individual" who illegally owned her fled under bombing and abandoned the panther cub, Gerard told.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Soon after, the Wild Animal Rescue Centre in Kyiv took custody of Kiara and contacted the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) which helped her get out of Ukraine and into a zoo in western Poland.</p>

The panther was later taken to Tonga Terre d'Accueil, a shelter for rescued or abandoned wild animals within France's Saint-Martin-la-Plaine Zoo. Kiara will be cared for by a team that specialises in helping "exploited and abused" wild animals while she searches for a permanent new home.</p>

<p>Kiara spends most of her time in her own enclosure and likes to eat alone. The veterinarians are also not trying to mix her up with other animals for now, and giving her time and space to adapt to her new home and surroundings.&nbsp;"She’s been through a lot of changes in the people who take care of her, and this is all very traumatic for animals", Gerard said.</p>

<p>The claim, which has been approved by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), is for the entire £122 million (US$148 million) paid to PPE Medpro under a June 2020 contract for the business to provide 25 million sterile surgical gowns. The DHSC is also attempting to recoup the expenses associated with keeping and discarding the gowns, which its inspectors rejected following an inspection when they arrived at the Daventry NHS warehouse.</p>

<p>In a statement released in December 2020 by a lawyer for its director Anthony Page, the business claimed that the gowns and 210 million face masks provided under a separate deal for £80.85 million had "unquestionably helped keep our NHS personnel safe." The gowns have never really been used in the NHS. PPE Medpro claims the robes were approved for use and that it would "rigorously" defend the lawsuit. The face masks have not been the subject of any legal disputes.</p>

<p>According to data obtained by the Guardian last month and assembled by HSBC bank, £29 million from PPE Medpro earnings was transferred to an offshore trust whose beneficiaries were Lady Mone and her three adult children, according to bank records.</p>

<p>PPE Medpro paid Mone's spouse, Isle of Man-based banker Douglas Barrowman, £70 million, at least £65 million of which came from the company's earnings from the two government contracts. The filings state that Barrowman subsequently made a number of payments from that cash, including the £29 million to Mone's trust.</p>

<p>A lawyer for Mone told the Guardian in response: “There are a number of reasons why our client cannot comment on these issues and she is under no duty to do so.”</p>

UK government sues Michelle Mone-linked PPE Medpro for US$148 million

<p>A 17-year-old boy named Tobias Jacob Brewer aka Toby is accused of trying to kill his mother and beating her with a frying pan as she asked him to clean his room.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the probable cause affidavit, the teenager repeatedly stabbed his mother with a pocket knife, Fox 35 Orlando reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Toby was arrested on Nov 30 and taken into custody after he allegedly attacked his mother and&nbsp;led police on a chase.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report said, "The suspect advised that he does not like cleaning his room and was tired of the victim (his mom) constantly harping about it."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Toby reportedly also admitted that he texted one of his friends about the attack and asked him to bring a gun to shoot his mom. His friend, who has autism said that he can bring a knife instead of a rifle.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He was also accused of leading authorities on a chase with two of his friends and his girlfriends. The chase ended on Dec 1 after the car crashed into a wooden&nbsp;area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the report, the mother is in critical condition right now.&nbsp;</p>

According to the probable cause affidavit, the teenager repeatedly stabbed his mother with a pocket knife, Fox 35 Orlando reported. Toby was arrested on Nov 30 and taken into custody after he allegedly attacked his mother and led police on a chase. On Monday his arrest report was released sharing details of this attack. According to the report, Toby told detectives that he stabbed his mother multiple times and hit her head with a frying pan until his handle broke. The report said, "The suspect advised that he does not like cleaning his room and was tired of the victim (his mom) constantly harping about it." Toby reportedly also admitted that he texted one of his friends about the attack and asked him to bring a gun to shoot his mom. His friend, who has autism said that he can bring a knife instead of a rifle. He was also accused of leading authorities on a chase with two of his friends and his girlfriends. <p>Members of "Remmo clan," are the suspects in the raid trial.&nbsp;The trial which began in January is set to resume on Tuesday.&nbsp;</p>

There were 15 kids, ranging two-year-old to 18 years old. Each kid had his/her own story. Some witnessed Russian soldiers invading their hometowns and some saw soldiers beating their loved ones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Oksana Sliepora, a psychologist, for the first time used canine therapy to treat her patients. "I read a lot of literature that working with dogs, with four-legged rehabilitators, helps children reduce stress, increase stress resistance, and reduce anxiety," AP quoted her as saying.</p>

<p>With the kids gathered, their faces glowed as they saw Bice. For 30 minutes, the dog let everybody touch and hug him. The kids enjoyed Bice doing his tricks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Soon the kids didn't seem stressed but the fear was still there. The psychologist observed that the kids were scared of loud noises, like the sounds of jets passing.</p>
