The creators of the book hope it will help nurture acceptance.

Muhammad Moshiuzzaman, a member of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board, said, “We have piloted it in very small areas, and we got a very positive result, response from our students, because it was a completely unknown matter to them. It is new knowledge for them and they accepted it very well.”

“We came to know about them by learning from the book, we think we should help them with their progress," said Fatiah Alam, 12, a student at Gomail High school on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, one of the schools that uses the new textbook.

According to officials, there are about 10,000 'hijras' (transgenders) in Bangladesh but rights groups say the figure could be as high as 1.5 million in the country of 170 million people.

The textbook has not been welcomed by everyone. A large crowd of conservative Muslims angered by the inclusion of hijras recently held a protest at Dhaka’s main mosque calling for the textbook to be recalled.

Nevertheless, the transgender community and their supporters are hopeful that the textbooks will spread awareness and in turn help improve their status in society.

"If our story catches people's attention and they keep our suffering in mind, that will be good for us. Those who learn more about us will hopefully understand and then work towards our development in the future," transgender community leader Jonak told Reuters at her office in Dhaka.

We want them to have their own private space and to feel that they, too, are a part of the society. This is such a simple issue. We will have to promote this view because all other ways of resolving it will be futile," he said, suggesting that the Hindu organisation, which has been opposed to homosexuality and same-sex marriage, is softening its stand on the issue.

Citing Hindu scriptures and mythology as the basis of his support, Bhagwat said, "Without much hullabaloo, we have found a way with a humane approach to provide them social acceptance."

Homosexuality was decriminalised in India in 208 after the Supreme Court scrapped the colonial-era Section 377 law.

Despite that, the concept of homosexuality hasn’t found space in the mainstream and is still considered by many as a taboo topic. However, the community has found greater acceptance compared to before in the conservative country.

In the past, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has refused to legalise same-sex marriage. But Bhagwat’s remarks on the issue could most likely force the government to re-think on the matter.

Authorities claimed she was raped and repeatedly stabbed with a steak knife.

In 2006, McLaughlin was found guilty of first-degree murder. McLaughlin was sentenced to death by a judge after a jury deadlocked on the verdict. According to Komp, Missouri and Indiana are the only states where a judge can sentence someone to death.

A court in 2016 ordered a new sentencing hearing, but a federal appeals court panel reinstated the death penalty in 2021.

Spain divided over bill that allows transgender people over 16 to change gender in ID

A transgender Qatari princess who escaped from Qatar to the UK has now been granted asylum. The princess from the ruling Al Thani family had left her home country in fear for her life.&nbsp;

The Sunday Times reported that Sheikha, the Qatari princess went into hiding in the UK with her girlfriend after escaping from a bodyguard in 2015 when she was with her family on a shopping trip to&nbsp;London.

Leaked documents show that the member of the emirate’s ruling Al Thani family told the Home Office that "growing up in Qatar has been the most difficult thing I have had to do"&nbsp;because "I never wanted to be put in this body".

The commission, which will meet soon, will be composed of a medical data statistician, a doctor with experience in gender identity healthcare, a sports physiologist, a mental health specialist, a collegiate athletic trainer, a representative of an athletic association, and a rotating member who is a coach or official in the sport at the centre of dispute in each case.

Sigh of relief for transgender girls, as Utah judge halts ban on their participation in school sports

Taking a welcome step toward inclusivity and breaking the glass ceiling, India's civil aviation regulatory body, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday, for the first time, issued medical guidelines that will allow transgenders and non-binary individuals to fly aeroplanes in the country.

DGCA in its circular stated that transgender candidates, who have completed their hormone therapy for transition or have gone under the knife more than five years ago, will be able to fly the planes, after clearing mental health screening tests. The mental health tests will be based on the blueprint laid out by World Professional Association for Transgender Health. “Those transgender applicants who have been taking hormone therapy or had a gender reassignment surgery within the last five years will be screened for their mental health status,” read the circular. As for those individuals who have completed their treatment within the last five years, they will have to undergo not only psychological and psychiatric evaluations but also submit a detailed evaluation from their endocrinologist as well as surgeon about any surgery that might have taken place in the last year. If the candidate manages to tick every single box in the evaluation, then only they will be declared fit and allowed to sit in the cockpits. Furthermore, those on life-long hormone therapy will only be admitted if they can prove that they have reached a stable dose. Read more: India's aviation regulatory body initiates two-month audit as homegrown airlines continue to report snags Meanwhile, those who have started the therapy or gone under the knife only recently will be deemed medically 'unfit' and will have to wait for a period of three months to seek another attempt. “If the applicant is on hormone replacement therapy (as applicable), as with any medication, on commencement of hormone therapy or any change in the drug or adjustment of its dose, the applicant will be declared medically ‘unfit’ for at least three months,” it added. According to DGCA, the medical guidelines are applicable for all categories of pilot's licence viz. private pilot’s licence, student’s pilot licence and commercial pilot licence. However, a caveat of transgender persons being allowed to only fly as first officers has been added. In case a transgender pilot is the pilot-in-command, their co-pilot ought to have 250 hours of experience on that machine. So far FINA has said that the open category would offer opportunities for athletes "without regard to their sex, their legal gender, or their gender identity".

But Veronica Ivy, trans cyclist and twice UCI Masters world champion, said the proposal was an "extreme indignity". "FINA`s choice to force trans women into an `open` category with cisgender men is an unethical non-starter," she told Reuters in an interview.

"It is the very definition of `separate but equal` and an extreme indignity to the women affected. Trans women are legally, socially, and medically women; we are legally, socially, and medically female. "We ought to race with women and international sports federations need to cease placing limits on who is `woman` or `female` enough," she said.

So far, the only idea floated for swimming has come from the World Swimming Coaches Association, which produced a position statement before FINA`s congress on Sunday. "Through a re-categorisation process, the sport of swimming should offer an alternative competitive model which would ensure inclusion and fairness," said the statement. Although they have not submitted a proposal to FINA, the statement suggests two options.

The first is to turn the men`s category into an `open category` alongside a protected `female category`. The alternative option is to have female and male categories and a third open category which would allow those not eligible or not willing to compete in the sex-based categories to enter races.

The coaches also suggested that the sport could create a Trans Division and possibly hold trans meetings. 
"The Trans Females will race each other. The Trans Males will race each other. There is an argument that the Trans Males have been completely lost in this debate because they are uncompetitive in our current structure. This would also allow those of indeterminate gender to be factored into such a solution," said the statement. But Caitlyn Jenner, who announced her transition from Olympic gold medallist Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn in 2015, has questioned whether there are enough trans athletes to make such a system viable.

Over the years, Barbie has also added a lot of other female role models in their collection with fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad getting the first hijab-wearing Barbie.

Cox, who has won multiple Emmy Awards in her career, has been an advocate for transgender rights and issues. She worked closely with the company to create her Barbie doll and when asked about the product, she expressed her wish for the doll to appeal to children of all gender identities.

These bills are on their way to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, who is also a Republican. The Arizona legislature also passed a third bill, which would ban abortions after 15 weeks of gestation.

As a result, the votes largely went along party lines.

"Why would we be legislating bullying against children who want to...participate in sports?" Democratic&nbsp;Representative Kelli Butler asked in an emotional speech on Thursday. "That's not the country that I know and that I am proud to be a part of."

Oklahoma's legislature also passed a bill on Thursday with the same name: the "Save Women's Sports Act".

Kentucky lawmakers passed SB 83, which would bar transgender girls from playing girls' sports beginning in sixth grade up to college. Kentucky Democrat Governor Andy Beshear will now review the bill.&nbsp;

Democratic lawmakers have generally supported the rights of LGBTQ+ people and opposed restrictions on transgender students' participation in sports teams. Beshear's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

These bans are argued to be necessary to prevent transgender athletes from gaining an unfair advantage.&nbsp;

Some opponents of the bans, such as advocates for transgender people and organisations like the Women's Sports Foundation, say that such measures are discriminatory and that transgender students should be allowed to participate in school sports.
