<p>While KKR had the game in their grasp for most parts, they spilt it in the end overs due to Powell and Buttler's late charge. Despite the win, former Kolkata skipper and their current mentor Gautam Gambhir shared a heartfelt post for the two-time winners on Instagram.&nbsp;</p>

Before Narine, West Indies players Kieron Pollard and Dwyane Bravo have also reached the feat. Apart from them, Pakistan's Shoaib Malik is the only other player to feature in 500 or more T20s. <p>West Indies&nbsp;mystery spinner Sunil Narine on Sunday (Nov 5) announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing curtains to a career that saw several stormy days on and off the field. Narine, a member of the West Indies' 2012 ICC T20 World Cup winning side, last played for the team in August 2019 in a T20I match against India at Providence.</p>

<p>Taking to his Instagram handle, the 35-year-old wrote: “I appreciate it has been over four years since I last played for West Indies, but today, I am announcing my retirement from International cricket."</p>

<p>"Publicly, I am a man of few words, but privately, there are a few people who have given me unwavering support throughout my career and helped me realise my dream of representing West Indies, and to you, I express my deepest gratitude."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Narine thanked his family, especially his father, and others as he walked away from top-level cricket.</p>

<p>Citing the example of how T20 games are getting longer nowadays, Russell said with this rule, at least the duration is getting shortened, reflecting the true meaning of a T20 game - something that must end sooner and not take four hours to finish.</p>

<p>"I thought it did exactly what I wanted it to do (laughs). Unfortunately, Kieron didn't quite see it that way, but look it is tough," Russell said before the start of the Barbados leg of the CPL.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I'm sure the captain next to me [Rovman Powell, Barbados Royals] would agree. If you have three overs where you effectively have the penalty, it does make a difference. The reason we've done it is to just speed up the pace of play. I know IPL games go well over four hours, which is just too long," Russell noted.</p>

Mentioning that a fan had to leave the game early to catch his ferry because it took longer for the game to end, precisely the last over, which took 12 minutes to get completed, Russell said that is unacceptable.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I sat next to someone in the stands during that game on Sunday, and he had to get a ferry back to Nevis, and he had to leave the game early because of the amount of time it took to bowl those last few overs," Russell said. "So, the last over was bowled in 12 minutes, which, again, is not acceptable. So, it has a knock-on effect.</p>

<h2>‘Doing it for the fans'</h2>

<p>T20 cricket is fast-paced, glittering, brings excitement and is for the fans to enjoy the crispier version of the game. Speaking on the same lines, Russell said all these efforts are just for the spectators.</p>

<p>"We're doing it for the fans - that's really the reason for doing it. I certainly don't mind it to change. If you actually look at the overall timings each game is 17 minutes quicker than it was last year. So, from that point of view, it's been a success, and it's just unfortunate that Trinidad got caught up in it, but everyone has signed up for the rules. So, I'm happy with where we are at right now," he added.</p>

<h3>What are the slow-over-rate penalties?</h3>

<p>If the bowling team is behind the required rate at the start of the 18th over, an additional fielder must enter the 30-yard circle with five players inside.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If the team is behind the rate at the start of the 19th over, two additional fielders must enter the fielding circle for six players to be inside.</p>

<p>In case the bowling team is behind the rate at the start of the final over, the penalty gets harsher as the team will lose a player from the field, selected by the captain, and also have six players inside the circle.</p>

<p>Besides, the batting team must ensure to keep the game moving. After a first and final warning from the umpires, the batting team will be slapped with a five-run penalty for each instance of time wasting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"As a team, what do you think? If you want to look ahead to the future and go to the next level, then you should surely think about it, because if you look at the last few seasons, their performance hasn't been as good. As a senior player, there are expectations from you that you would get wickets or runs. If you are not able to do it, then you will have to face the questions," the former all-rounder added.</p>

<p>Sharing concerns over their form this season that saw KKR going down in their quest of reaching the playoffs, Yusuf said age has nothing to do with their mediocre run as most players of the same age are also playing and doing well.</p>

<p>While Narine has contained the run-flow in a few games, he has also been taken to the cleaners on many occasions in this year's IPL. Speaking on his indifferent run, former West Indies opener Daren Ganga shared some advice for him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“He has had major challenges with remodelling of his action. He had to do (it) on a continuous basis, he has been called and warned a few times. He had to step out of international cricket because of that scrutiny,” Ganga said during an interaction at the sidelines of a Cricviz event.</p>

<p>Ganga added, "But for me Sunil Narine is still a formidable force, maybe, him taking a shift in franchise might freshen him up and his impact, who knows?" He further emphasised on KKR's spin bowling trio, also comprising Suyash Sharma and Varun Chakaravarthy, and said, "Sunil Narine is operating in a KKR team where he’s got two additional spinners. That was never the case before. He operated primarily with (Varun) Chakravarthy. We saw that Kolkata is one of the best batting venues in the IPL. So, he’s also playing in a side where he’s bowling amongst other spinners which are successful.</p>

<p>“If you take three spinners in a complement of five bowlers in a T20 innings someone is not going to perform in terms of taking wickets. His economy has been very similar to Chakravarthy and Sharma – they are beneficiaries while he is operating alongside them," Ganga concluded.</p>
