<p>Congress leader and film producer T Subbarami Reddy organised a condolence meeting in Hyderabad on Sunday for late actress Sridevi, calling her demise a shock for the nation.</p>

<p>The meet was held at a hotel on Sunday evening in memory of the actress, who featured in two of Reddy&#39;s co-productions &#39;Chandni&#39; and &#39;Lamhe&#39;, a statement said.</p>

He narrates how Boney Kapoor panicked after he kept calling Sridevi after 15-20 minutes had passed but still did not get a response.</p>

<p>&quot;In the living room, Boney surfed channels to watch the South Africa-India cricket match but after spending around four or five minutes doing that, he chanced upon another channel which was showing the Pakistan Super League cricket match highlights. He watched the match for around 15-20 minutes but was beginning to get restless thereafter because he was aware that being a Saturday, there would be a rush in the restaurants. It was around 8 pm then.</p>

<p>Boney&rsquo;s impatience made him shout out to Sridevi from the living room itself. After calling out to her twice, Boney lowered the volume of the TV set. Still no reply. He then walked to the bedroom and knocked at the bathroom door and even called out to her. The unsuspecting husband, hearing the tap inside on, then called out &#39;Jaan, Jaan&#39; still louder but got no reply, which was unusual. He panicked and opened the door which had not been bolted from inside, nervous but yet not at all prepared for what he was going to see. The tub was full of water and Sridevi was immersed completely, from head to toe, inside the tub. Devastated, he reached out to her but watching her motionless, he feared the worst.</p>

<p>The festival of colours is here and Bollywood, unlike every year, is not gearing up for extravagant Holi parties owing to the sudden demise of veteran actress Sridevi on February 24 in Dubai. As she was laid to rest on February 28 amid the presence of the entire entertainment industry at her funeral, most Bollywood families have announced almost no parties or&nbsp;sober ones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Amitabh Bachchan&nbsp;on March 1, Holi eve took to Twitter to share some pictures of Holi celebrations at his residence in Mumbai and they are proof that Bollywood is in no mood for fun right now.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In pictures, Bachchan and his family including wife Jaya, daughter Shweta, daughter-in-law Aishwarya and grand-daughter Aaradhya were seen in front of the burning of Holika, applying tilak on each other&#39;s foreheads and eating some Holi delicacies in front of the pyre.&nbsp;Interestingly, Abhishek Bachchan was missing from the pictures.</p>

Amitabh is known for posting candid pictures of Holi celebration on his social media profile every year but unlike every year this year was sober and minimal owing to Sridevi's death.

The festival of colours is here and Bollywood, unlike every year, is not gearing up for extravagant Holi parties owing to the sudden demise of veteran actress Sridevi on February 24 in Dubai. As she was laid to rest on February 28 amid the presence of the entire entertainment industry at her funeral, most Bollywood families have announced almost no parties or sober ones. Amitabh Bachchan on March 1, Holi eve took to Twitter to share some pictures of Holi celebrations at his residence in Mumbai and they are proof that Bollywood is in no mood for fun right now. In pictures, Bachchan and his family including wife Jaya, daughter Shweta, daughter-in-law Aishwarya and grand-daughter Aaradhya were seen in front of the burning of Holika, applying tilak on each other's foreheads and eating some Holi delicacies in front of the pyre. Following a cardiac-related complaint, the Andaz Apna Apna director was admitted to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. According to hospital sources, Santoshi's condition is now stable after doctors performed angioplasty on him. Santoshi started his career with 1982 release "Ardh Satya" but gained fame with films such as "Ghayal", "Damini" and "Andaz Apna Apna" that remains a cult classic.

While she dealt with a lot of negative press and societal pressure at the time, the star came out of it all. Meanwhile, Boney Kapoor&#39;s kids from the first wife -- Anshula and Arjun Kapoor also grew up to become something in life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an old interview of 2014 that has surfaced again, Arjun can be seen talking about his struggles as a child borne out of broken marriage and broken home, growing up with strong values as his mother inculcated, taking care of Anshula, and most importantly his equation father and stepmother Sridevi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As the host asks Arjun if he was angry as a child because of his father&#39;s decision, Arjun said:&nbsp;&quot;I am sure I must have gone through anger, angst, vulnerability but I understood eventually. You have to make your peace with it. You can&rsquo;t make that one decision that your father makes, dictate how you turn out as a human being. It can be a part of your journey but it can&rsquo;t be the only thing -- because my father did this, all my decisions will be based on it. That&rsquo;s not how life functions. And he&rsquo;s been there for me in his capacity. Thankfully, my mother brought me up well enough to make my own choices and decisions in life... My mother never poisoned me against what he has done.&rdquo;</p>

<p>When asked if he had anything against Sridevi, he explained, &quot;That&rsquo;s something I am sure I have had various degrees of emotions towards her and him. It&rsquo;s too long in the past to even dwell on things ... I try to look forward. I make it a point not to dwell on what could have or should have happened...&rdquo;</p>

<p>He goes on to share:&nbsp;&quot;It&rsquo;s very cordial. I respect anybody in my father&rsquo;s life the same way because he would expect me to do that. So I respect her and don&rsquo;t wish ill towards anyone.&rdquo;</p>

<p>On being asked if Sridevi had been encouraging about his journey in Bollywood, Arjun said, &quot;I am sure she is but not with me per se. As in, I&rsquo;ve never sat down face to face with her and had a chat about how she liked my work or is she following. There is a decent understanding of two people to maintain a certain equation because we love a certain man who is in between both of us. It&#39;s as simple as that!&quot;</p>

<p>I have worked with Sridevi only in English Vinglish. In the hindsight, I will say that Sridevi was very different from other commercial actors of Bollywood. The mainstream Indian actors and I mean both male and female, perform for the audience and miss out the truth of the given situation. But Sridevi was unique and truthful with her display of emotions and with her feelings. This was something very significant because we need to remember that while we had been always acting for the audience, since time immemorial, nowadays we perform to make a profit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sridevi displayed through her acting the higher realities of humanity without sacrificing the profit motive.</p>

<p>I found Sridevi to be vulnerable. But her vulnerability was actually an indication of her inner strength. Sridevi was a compassionate listener. She had a confidence which, honestly, I lacked.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sridevi was courageous enough to let go her mask, which we all wear. We rarely can put off our guard. But she did. Sridevi soaked in the realities, let things happen to her. Consequently, what her audience got is responsive, not reactive acting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>And, how do I know that?&nbsp;</p>

<p>I know that because on the set of English Vinglish, we would be discussing scenes for an hour. And Sridevi would be in the corner, reading a book. Suddenly, she would say a joke and we would all crack up. We realised that she had been listening to each one of us carefully. She was definitely a good listener and that&#39;s one of the most important capitals of an actor. You must listen, only if you listen, you can apply. The fundamental training that we got as an actor was to listen. Listen to your co-actor.</p>

<p>Sridevi was equally competent in all kinds of roles, be it Sadma or her last film, English Vinglish. The levels of maturity that she had and that orientation of action that she had about good and bad acting helped to bring out the elegance in both the roles that she had played in Sadma and English Vinglish.</p>

<p>When Sridevi took a gap of 15 years and then came back to acting, it did not seem like she had left acting at all. When she came back to Bollywood with English Vinglish, she was way more matured with the experiences of being a mother, wife and homemaker. She had now much more to perform and immediately connected with the audience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Having born in this part of the world, Sridevi had those amazing qualities of grace and elegance. She was, like my mother and wife, patient and elegant.</p>

<p>As I said, Sridevi found a way of holding, of retaining the truthfulness of her acts and yet playing out for the audience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Unlike the western style of acting, very few in Indian film genre actually acted the way Sridevi, Amitabh Bachchan, or Balraj Sahni did.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I don&#39;t believe in rumours, so I have nothing to add to the many theories spun around her death.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But I would certainly say that in Bollywood the difference between an actor a model is getting increasingly blurry.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Most of the costume designers that I have met come from a fashion industry. &nbsp;They dress actors like fashion models. A lot of people go from modelling to acting; this shows the quality of acting that we choose in the film industry. I don&#39;t deny, some of them could be very good actors but the kind of complexity that an actor brings, well I don&#39;t see that at all now. Dimensional characters, such as Sridevi, are hard to find now. In fact, I don&#39;t think they are even anymore demanded because if we are not demanding those layers.</p>

<p>So now, the victims are not only the models but the actors as well. they have to work towards fitting into that concept of cool and beautiful.&nbsp;</p>

Opinion: Sridevi's vulnerability came from her inner-strength

Almost entire Bollywood has been visiting Anil Kapoor's residence to offer their condolences to the family ever since the news broke out on Sunday morning. The actress' two daughter's Janhvi and Khushi have been staying at their uncle, Anil Kapoor's residence since Sunday. Salman Khan, on Tuesday night, visited Sridevi's residence where her body was kept after it reached Mumbai.

<p>In his other avatar, he has helped transport back home to over 38 countries the bodies of 4,700 men and women who have over the years died in the United Arab Emirates.&nbsp;</p>

<p>News reports Wednesday quoted Ashraf as saying he had spent three days getting all the clearances for Sridevi, and that he was at the embalming centre as well. Embalming is compulsory in the UAE if the body is not to cremated or buried there.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The reports quoted Ashraf as saying he had even transported some of those 4,7000 bodies to their various homes at his own cost.&nbsp;</p>

The body has been kept at her home and at 9 AM on Wednesday morning, it will be kept Celebrations Sports Complex in Lokhandwala for fans and friends to pay their last respect. The funeral will take place in the afternoon.</p>

Bollywood celebrities were seen rushing to Anil Kapoor's residence to pay their last respects to the actress' family.

The news of Sridevi's untimely death shocked the entire film industry. The actress, who died from accidental drowning in a bathtub, was in Dubai for a family wedding. While the body is yet to be brought back to Mumbai, Bollywood stars were seen visiting Anil Kapoor's residence to offer their condolences to the bereaved family members. × On Monday, celebrities started visiting Anil Kapoor's home from the morning itself. Sridevi death: Deepika, Ranveer, Kamal Haasan visit Anil Kapoor's residence

<p>Sridevi has left us only at 54. She was at her prime both as a woman and an actor. Her performance in&nbsp;<i>Mom</i>&nbsp;last year proved her steely will to excel no matter what the age.</p>

<p>Sridevi was determined to take forward her diva&#39;s image into the coming years. During one of my last conversations with when I mentioned the forbidden &#39;f&#39; word (fifty), she protested strongly. &quot;No, no, don&#39;t even talk about it. I don&#39;t think of my age. Neither should you.&quot; She again requested me anxiously at the end of the interview to not mention her age in the interview.</p>

<p>But someone was counting her years. Bollywood screen divas have a nasty habit of leaving us prematurely. Nutan whom cancer claimed, was only 55 when she left us. Coincidentally, she too died in February, like Sridevi. Nutan left behind a legacy far greater than Sridevi or any of the screen legends.</p>

<p>Sad to say, Sridevi&#39;s Hindi films are no match to her volcanic talent.&nbsp;<i>Judaai</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i>Chandni</i>&nbsp;in which she was a powerhouse of exceptional skills are blatantly mediocre films. Throughout the 1980s, Sridevi excelled in the most atrocious potboilers from the South directed by the likes of T Rama Rao and K Raghvendra Rao.</p>

<p>I once asked her how she managed to be so brilliant in such awful films. Her reply? A giggle. And&hellip; &quot;I never discriminated among my roles. To me every film was equally precious and I gave the same respect to all my directors.&quot;&nbsp;</p>

<p>I wonder if the mythical Meena Kumari felt the same. Did she accord Kamal Amrohi and Guru Dutt, who immortalize her in&nbsp;<i>Pakeezah</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i>Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam</i>, the same respect as Ramanna (<i>Jawab</i>) and Saawan Kumar Tak (<i>Gomti Ke Kinare</i>)? We lost Meena Kumari at the age of 39, just a week before the release of&nbsp;<i>Pakeezah</i>. Looking back at her oeuvre, I am amazed at how much of her legendary reputation depends on just a few classics. Most of the work she did was unquestionably mediocre. Try watching her in&nbsp;<i>Main Bhi Ladki Hoon</i>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<i>Chandan Ka Palna</i>.</p>

<p>Madhubala left us when she was 36. Her swan song,&nbsp;<i>Mughal-e-Azam</i>, still has the power to make us swoon. The closest we come to a fitting farewell for Sridevi is&nbsp;<i>English Vinglish</i>&nbsp;a deeply relevant and engaging discourse on the irrational importance the Indian middle class attaches to speaking the English language fluently.</p>

<p>Madhubala&#39;s celluloid legacy boasts of sporadic brilliance in films like&nbsp;<i>Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi</i>,&nbsp;<i>Tarana</i>&nbsp;and the underrated&nbsp;<i>Amar</i>. But her reputation rests largely on&nbsp;<i>Mughal-e-Azam</i>. Which is like saying Agra&#39;s reputation rests mainly on the Taj Mahal.</p>

<p>How many Taj Mahals did Geeta Bali leave behind when she died suddenly of smallpox at the age of 35? Many, including me, think of Geeta as the precursor to Sridevi. The impish charm the comic spontaneity and the sheer joie de vivre were shared by both the immortal actresses. But did Geeta Bali do any film worth remembering today? Not one of her films has any recall value. Not even&nbsp;<i>Albela</i>,which is recalled for the song&nbsp;<i>Shola jo bhadke</i>&nbsp;and nothing else.</p>

<p>Sridevi luckily is a screen great whose performances in&nbsp;<i>Mr India</i>&nbsp;(incidentally Geeta Bali too did a film titled&nbsp;<i>Mr India</i>),&nbsp;<i>Chalbaaz</i>,&nbsp;<i>Sadma</i>,&nbsp;<i>Judaai</i>,&nbsp;<i>Chandni</i>,&nbsp;<i>Lamhe</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i>English Vinglish</i>will keep us regaled till kingdom come.</p>

<p>But does Sridevi have a single&nbsp;<i>Mother India</i>,&nbsp;<i>Mughal-e-Azam</i>,&nbsp;<i>Bandini</i>,&nbsp;<i>Pakeezah</i>&nbsp;to her credit?</p>

Opinion: Not just Sridevi, many of Bollywood's screen queens have died too early

<p>There was a stream of visitors at Anil Kapoor&#39;s resident on Monday as celebrities from the Southern film industry as well as Hindi film industry came to offer their condolences to Sridevi&#39;s family. While the Dubai Police has still not released the actress&#39; body, there was a constant flow of people at Anil Kapoor&#39;s residence all of Monday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ram Gopal Varma&nbsp;after sharing his anger on the untimely demise of veteran actress Sridevi has now penned a love letter to the late entertainer&#39;s fans.&nbsp;</p>

Dubai rules state that any death occurring outside a hospital has to be thoroughly investigated even if it has been a natural death. Another twist came with the mention in the forensic report of traces of alcohol in her blood -- with some media reports claiming that it was found to have been at "elevated levels". Sharing the image of the forensic report, Gulf News stated that Sridevi, who had traces of alcohol in her blood, lost balance and fell into the bathtub and drowned. According to a post on the official Dubai Media Office Twitter handle, Dubai Police has transferred the case to Dubai Public Prosecution, which will carry out regular legal procedures that are followed in such cases. Meanwhile, the Indian envoy in UAE stated to ANI that the Indian embassy is trying hard to send mortal remains of Sridevi to India at earliest. (With agency inputs)
