'Veere Di Wedding' banned in Pakistan over vulgar dialogues and obscene scenes

With just a few hours left for the release of one of the biggest films of this season-'Veere Di Wedding'- actresses Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania seem to be at ease and quite assured with their film.

While many would have liked to term the female-buddy film as a chick flick, the lead actresses want to steer clear of such labels.

During a press interaction in New Delhi, both Sonam and Swara stated how the term itself is a “derogatory term for a woman”.

"The film explores the friendship between four people who happen to be women. The film shows that how women support each other and are confidantes of each other. I just want to ask that whenever a movie is made with women characters in the centre, why it is called a ‘woman empowerment film’?" pointed out Sonam, whose sister Rhea Kapoor is a co-producer of the film.

Swara Bhaskar also echoed friend Sonam's thoughts and said, "Basically a 'chick flick' is a strange category to put films in. Have we ever said that this film is a male-centric film or it is a ‘dude flick’? ' asked Bhasker who is known to be vocal about pertinent issues.

“A film is a comedy, romance, action. There is no separate genre for girls only”, said Swara and added, “Such categories are misleading also because our story is about friendship not about a single section of the society."

“I think boys can be friends and share the same vibe, a woman can only share the same vibe and this what we have shown in the film. Instead of labelling it, we should focus more on story, originality and on those parameters our film qualifies.”

The women felt that the society unnecessarily puts labels on women. " Why is the idea of drinking and abusing limited to guys only? Why we can’t we look ahead of the fact that when four women meet, they can also talk in the similar language," said Swara.

“We don’t want to be labelled, It is a film for women and men both," added Sonam. The film's being promoted on social media platforms as #IAmNotChickFlick

“We are just shying away from a label and we just don’t want to put the movie in a box," added Sonam.

Sonam does not mind if the film is called a wedding film. "Call it a wedding film, or anything but I think we should not term this film as a woman empowerment story just because it has four female friends. Or because the trailers show them cursing freely"

The first thing that will pop in your head once you see the newly released poster of Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor in the titular character -- whether Sonam Kapoor is playing the role of Sanjay’s former lover Madhuri Dixit.

Bringing Saawariya vibes, Sonam and Ranbir are charming, fun and intrigue us as they pose playfully together for the new poster that came out today. If not Madhuri, some even feel that she plays another former lover of Sanjay, actress Tina Munim who is now married to Anil Ambani.

However, quashing all these rumours, Sonam spoke about her short but important role in the film. She said, “I have a small but important part in the movie. It’s not what everyone is thinking. I am not playing an actress. I am not allowed to say anything about it. But it has been wonderful working with Rajkumar Hirani. He is one of the biggest reasons why I said yes to this film.”

This is what Sonam Kapoor has to say about 'Veere Di Wedding' clash with brother Harshvardhan's film 'Bhavesh Joshi'!

Ever since the first trailer of 'Veere Di Wedding' came out, there has been a lot of speculation on whether the Censor board would pass the film without any cuts. Speculations were rife that the Censor board would cut out all the cuss words from the film.

Co-producer Rhea Kapoor though has denied any trouble so far with the censor board.

The film is yet to receive a certification ahead of its June 1 release but Rhea is upbeat that the film will get clearance from the Censors board without any cuts.

Rhea, in fact, dismissed reports making rounds that because of cuss words and language used in the film, 'Veere Di Wedding' has received an `A` certificate. Rhea spoke to the media at the music launch where she was present along with the entire cast and crew on Tuesday. Here are the photos from that event.

"So far we have had no problem with the Censor Board. I don`t want to talk more about it because we still have not gotten the Censor (certificate) in our hands. Once we get it, we will issue a proper press release," she said.

Kapoor said that veteran actor Anil Kapoor, her father, had accompanied her to present the film to the censor board. "And let me tell you,... One can be certain that if we can make a film for which my father can come along, then clearly, as women none of us should be ashamed of the film."

Ekta Kapoor, who is also the co-producer of the film, added that the film has already covered its cost and they are looking at a clean run.

"Actually, I love this film. I trust the producer and I have four stellar leading women in the film. I have always picked a script which was not a hit on paper but on release became super successful," said Ekta.

To prove her point she mentioned her controversial, yet hit film, 'Dirty Picture'.

"Like when I made `Dirty Picture`, I was told this film is a flop. How can you make a film with Vidya Balan playing a heroine that too, as an item number girl?

"When the film released my mom hugged me and told me this is an outstanding film. Even this movie (`Veere Di Wedding`) has cleared most of its cost and we`re looking at a great clean run. I think I am one happy producer," Ekta said.

Directed by Shashank Ghosh, the film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania.

One can be certain that if we can make a film for which my father can come along, then clearly, as women none of us should be ashamed of the film." Ekta Kapoor, who is also the co-producer of the film, added that the film has already covered its cost and they are looking at a clean run.

Not just Sonam Kapoor, but it looks like her husband Anand Ahuja is also a trendsetter. Ahuja has added an 'S' to his name on his Instagram account. His name on Instagram now reads as 'Anand S Ahuja'.

Now, changing one's name and adding the husband's surname to one's own name is something that a lot of new brides do. Sonam too changed her name to Sonam Kapoor Ahuja on all her social media handles soon after she got married to Anand on 8th May. But it is surely refreshing to see Anand too adding Sonam's initial to his name post-wedding.

Many had criticised Sonam, a self-proclaimed feminist for changing her name. The actress had, in an interview to a publication, stated that no one had forced her to change her name and it solely her decision. "I have always said that I am a feminist. I have the choice to change my name to what I want to. Kapoor is also my father’s name. So it is a man’s name anyway. I chose to keep both. Anand has also changed his name but nobody wrote about that. I just decided to do it on social media because that’s my platform to say that I have made a choice. It is my personal choice. Nobody put a gun to my head. You should ask him (Anand). He has also changed his name and decided to add something as well.”

Not Just Sonam Kapoor, but Anand Ahuja too has changed his name post wedding

It’s good news for makers of “Veere Di Wedding” as the CBFC today granted the film an ‘A’ certificate, just what they wanted. Producers Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor wanted the certificate so that the film goes through certification without any cuts or edits.

The film starring four girls Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania will now retain all the cuss words and symbolic gestures. The credit for this goes entirely to Jeetendra and Anil Kapoor who fought for the film made by their daughters.

According to a report published in a daily, a source revealed: "Both Jeetendra (Ekta Kapoor's father) and Anil argued heatedly in favour of the colourful language spoken in the film. They are convinced that today's youngsters speak that foul lurid leery language. Some panel members objected. But finally, the board members agreed to let the language remain intact and gave the film an 'A' certificate."

Kareena had said in an earlier interview, “Veere Di Wedding is a movie about four women who attend my wedding and all the dhamaal that it involves. It is the perfect time to do this movie that deals with women and their emotions.”

“I started Veere Di Wedding nine months after Taimur’s birth and it is almost unheard of in Bollywood. I think people should be patient with me because I do not have the bandwidth to work so hard so soon. I would like to spend some time with my son, get things sorted, and take my time to figure out what I want to do and sort my head out,” Kareena had said earlier.
Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor's film 'Veere Di Wedding' gets 'A' certificate from CBFC

It's going to be Kapoor vs Kapoor at the box office on 1st June as Sonam Kapoor's Veere Di Wedding and her brother Harshvardhan Kapoor's Bhavesh Joshi will release in theatres on the same day.

Bhavesh Joshi, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and co-produced by Phantom and Eros was earlier set to release on May 25th. But the makers on Wednesday announced that they have decided to shift the film by a week and now will release on 1st June.

Meanwhile, Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor starer Veere Di Wedding had already booked the said date for its release long back. The film incidentally is co-produced by Sonam and HJarsh's sister Rhea.

Touted as one of the most anticipated films of this season, Veere De Wedding has already been garnering a lot of attention. Meanwhile, hopes are high from Bhavesh Joshi as well because of the film's director. Motwane, known to make thought-provoking, sensitive films like Lootera and Udaan, is trying a new genre by making a vigilante drama.

Actor Anil Kapoor, like all fathers, is anxious. "As a father, I will be anxious about my children. We have to wish for the best," the actor told a daily. The actor admits that release dates can never be decided by actors and that it is always a decision taken by the studios. "These calls [about a film's release date] are made by the respective studios and distributors, and I respect that. In my entire career, I have never said ki ab release karo ya abhi release mat karo. Neither Harsh nor I are in a position to say anything about the release date," the actor added.

Meanwhile, Harshvardhan himself does not see it as a 'clash'. While speaking to a news daily, the actor said, "The films belong to two completely different worlds. It’s a great date for both of them because it’s the first weekend after the end of the country’s biggest cricketing league. The other big releases will have filtered out by then too. Sonam, Rhea, dad (Anil Kapoor) and I are thrilled about the simultaneous releases because June 1 will be a day of celebration. We are not looking at it as a clash, it’s a great opportunity."

Clash of the Kapoors! Sonam Kapoor and brother Harshvardhan's films to release on the same day

Raising the bar every time she walks on the Cannes red carpet, Indian fashionista Sonam Kapoor just made us crave for a summer ball in this yellow and beige tulle dress with a trail that will you want to do a spin in slow-mo.

After she made heads turn as she dressed as a desi bride in a lehenga-choli by Ralph and Russo with some cape detailing for a modern chic look, Sonam opted for a Vera Wang creation for her second-day appearance. The nude-hued gown had a corset that flows into a big tulle skirt and a sunshine yellow trail.

Keeping her look simple and diverting all attention to the dress, Sonam tied her hair in a low bun and some yellow diamonds from Chopard matching with her dress. Also, her henna hands just add to the novelty as we don’t remember seeing anyone with mehendi on their hands at the Cannes.

She chose a beautiful summery ball gown in light hues for the second-day red carpet appearance

Cannes 2018: Sonam Kapoor's 2nd red-carpet appearance will make you crave the sun & sand

Just a week back, the country got to see one of the most lavish and star-studded Bollywood weddings of our times, as Sonam Kapoor tied the knot with her long time beau Anand Ahuja.

While the busy bride hasn't yet found time to go on her honeymoon, there were reports that the newlyweds would settle down in London. There were also reports that stated that the couple were house hunting in Mumbai days prior to their wedding.

Now, a source close Sonam has said that the newlyweds have not zeroed in on any house so far and that Sonam will continue to stay at her father Anil Kapoor's bungalow for the time being. "It is true that the couple was seen checking out some property in Mumbai close to her parents' home. But they didn't zero in on anything they like. Honestly, Anil Kapoor wants Sonam and her husband to stay in the Kapoor bungalow," an entertainment site quoted the source as saying.

"Anand's business and family are in Delhi. Sonam's home and career are in Mumbai. For some time at least she will be shuttling between the two cities," the source further added.

The couple had been dating for the past few years before they tied the knot. Sonam made a quick visit to Delhi post her wedding before she left for Cannes Film Festival where the actress is representing a beauty brand.

Sonam Kapoor, Anand Ahuja hurt religious sentiments of the Sikh community during their wedding ceremony?

Amid all the negative news of celebrities jealous of the creativity and success of their peers, a photo made our morning today.

Two beauties, Sonam Kapoor and Mahira Khan shared a photo of them hugging it out at Cannes right before they were to walk the red carpet on their first day this year. For Sonam, it was like coming back to her roots as she showed everyone -- who was a little too disappointed with her choice of clothes during her wedding -- that she is indeed, the true diva. Meanwhile, Mahira debuted this year at Cannes red carpet.

In the photo, Sonam can be seen embracing Mahira in a warm hug as the latter smiles. Both are dressed in their official clothes for the red carpet appearance.

Sonam recently got married to her businessman boyfriend Anand Ahuja. The couple had to postpone their honeymoon owing to Sonam's work commitments including Cannes.

Both the actresses are at Cannes currently and walked the red carpet on the same day

Special Moment ? The couple had to postpone their honeymoon owing to Sonam's work commitments including Cannes.

Here's proof that Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is good friends with Pakistan's Mahira Khan!

Trust Sonam Kapoor to never bore you on the red carpet. The Bollywood actress who recently got married in her hometown, Mumbai took the Cannes red carpet by a storm when she chose to wear a lehenga dress on her first outing this year.

Dressed as a bride, Sonam Kapoor changed the mood at the red carpet as she wore Ralph and Russo designed customised lehenga or ball-gown-like-skirt paired with a crop top and one side sleeve cape with heavy silver work.

She kept the look neat with hair tied at the back and middle parting. She even used a naga jadai (typically a braid accessory) to add detailing to the back. Sonam paired the look with light makeup, crystal earrings and a lot of oomph that comes naturally to her.

The diva sported her henna hands as the sleeves cut short at the elbows.

See and swoon over her look:

Sonam Kapoor takes lehenga to Cannes, turns up as a desi bride on the red carpet

Boney Kapoor looked proud and happy as he posed with his four children at niece Sonam Kapoor's wedding reception on Tuesday night. Arjun, Janhvi, Anshula and Khushi came together and posed with their father Boney Kapoor the perfect family portraits.
Arjun and Anshula, Boney's children from his first wife Mona, have had a strain relationship with their father's second family. Boney left Mona for Sridevi in the early 1990s. Janhvi and Khushi are daughters of the late actress. The four step-siblings were spotted together in events earlier. But things seemed to have changed ever since Sridevi passed away earlier this year in February.

As family and friends from Bollywood cheered the couple during their sindoor ritual or when Anand bent down on his knees, Sonam gushed like an average girl who is very happy being married to the love of her life. The couple got married earlier today at Sonam’s aunt Kavita Singh's heritage bungalow at Bandra. Sonam opted for a bright red-golden lehenga while her husband looked dapper in a golden sherwani. These are some of the best moments from their wedding, that the two will remember for years to come: Sonam plants a kiss on husband’s cheek as he leans forward to put sindoor on her head and makes her wear the mangalsutra (considered a symbol of a Hindu bride) #sonamkapoor #anand love birds wedding diaries ❤? . . #bollywoodstudios #bollywood A post shared by Bollywood Studios ⚡ (@bollywoodstudios) on May 8, 2018 at 6:09am PDT × Anand bent on his knee as Sonam blushes The husshy blushy couple ... #weddinginspiration #weddingday #weddingstory #weddingserviceapp #weddings #instalike #instalove #bollywoodcouple #sonamkapoor #anandahuja #bollywoodwedding #bollywoodaffair #happilyeverafter #lovebirds #bridesofindia #sonamkishaadi #beautifulbride #instawedding #likeforlike #followforfollow#everydayphenomenal A post shared by WedAbout (@wedabout) on May 8, 2018 at 4:41am PDT × Sonam and Anand exchange garlands First me..says #sonamkapoorahuja A post shared by Viral Bhayani (@viralbhayani) on May 8, 2018 at 6:46am PDT × Their wedding cake The finale #sonamkapoor and #anandahuja wedding cake is worth a thought...speaks volumes :-) A post shared by Viral Bhayani (@viralbhayani) on May 8, 2018 at 4:57am PDT × The couple take their vows Wedding coordinated by #wedniksha #anandahuja #sonamkapoor A post shared by Viral Bhayani (@viralbhayani) on May 8, 2018 at 3:28am PDT ×
