"We miscalculated the target. I think It was just a panic in between. They got two wickets in succession, (Chris) Morris and (Rishabh) Pant and there we lost the match. Our batsmen did not taking initiative to win the game," the skipper said.

IPL 2019: What to expect when Ashwin-led Punjab take on Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi at IS Bindra Stadium?

The twelfth edition of Indian Premier League is just around the corner and the fans are all set to witness the classic performances of world's top cricket stars.

IPL, which is one of the world's most-watched sporting events, will kick-off from March 23 and all the clubs will try to achieve the best result but let's analyse Delhi Capitals' preparation for the tournament.

DC has never won the IPL title but this time, they seek a change in fortunes for the 2019 edition as the franchise's new owners have changed their name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals.

In the batting department, team Delhi already had retained Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw and during the trading window, they traded batsman Shikhar Dhawan from Hyderabad for Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar and Shahbaz Nadeem.

DC also spend lavishly to pick South African player Colin Ingram which is a clear indication that the Delhi team has intended to strengthen their batting unit.

Ingram is an opening batsman and also an occasional wicket-keeper.

Iyer was magnificent in the previous edition as he scored 411 with a strike rate of 132.58 and Pant has proved his mettle in the international format.

Dhawan has been a consistent opening batsman in the Indian cricket team.

The bowling unit is a good balance of pace and spin. They already had retained Amit Mishra, Sandeep Lamichhane, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult. Besides, they purchased Ishant Sharma to add more fuel to the bowling unit.

And when it comes to bowling, Delhi Capitals has the most lethal bowling unit among all the teams. The tail-enders like Chris Morris, etc are also capable of hitting big.

With the current squad list that has an amalgamation of experienced and young players, the team has the best possible chances of winning the title. They just need to focus on implementation and consistency.

The problem might occur with the middle-order batting as DC lack batsmen in the depth.

Delhi will play their first match on March 24 against Mumbai In Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

Here is the squad list:

Retained: Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Rahul Tewatia, Jayant Yadav, Manjot Kalra, Colin Munro, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Sandeep Lamichhane, Trent Boult

Traded: Shikhar Dhawan from Hyderabad for Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem

Purchased: Hanuma Vihari (Rs 2 crore), Axar Patel (Rs 5 crore), Ishant Sharma (Rs 1.10 crore), Ankush Bains (Rs 20 lakh), Nathu Singh (Rs 20 lakh), Colin Ingram (Rs 6.40 crore), Sherfane Rutherford (Rs 2 crore), Keemo Paul (Rs 50 lakh), Jalaj Saxena (Rs 20 lakh), Bandaru Ayyappa (Rs 20 lakh)

Defending Champions Mumbai lost the last chance to book a play-off berth in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League as they have been kicked out of the tournament by Delhi team at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Sunday.

Earlier, the host Delhi had won the toss and opted to bat in order to take the advantage of a dry pitch and put up a 175-run target for Mumbai.

While chasing, team Mumbai lost all the wickets in 19.3 overs and failed to reach the target eventually losing the match by 11 runs.

Rohit Sharma, who suffered an injury in the first inning while fielding, scored just 13 runs off 11 balls. Also, allrounder Krunal Pandya scored just four runs.

Hardik Pandya and Ben Cutting tried to push the run rate but that was not enough to take the team through to the play-offs.

For Delhi, spinners were very economical as Sandeep Lamichhane and Amit Mishra took three wickets each to restrict the defending champions. Also, pacer Harshal Patel made a very crucial contribution in his 2.3-over spell by taking three wickets by giving 28 runs.

For a magnificent spell, Amit Mishra was awarded 'Player of the Match.'

Earlier, after losing first three wickets, Delhi's Rishab Pant rose to the occasion to help its team set a decent score of 174 runs on board.

IPL 2018: Delhi ends Mumbai's play-off race, beat defenders by 11 runs

Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an expressionless man on the ground. Be it a bowler giving away big runs in an over to a fielder giving boundaries for singles, Dhoni always keeps it calm and cool.&nbsp

However, he also manages to lighten up the entire mood of the crowd in one go.&nbsp

The former Indian cricket team captain has attempted to fake a nap during a match and scared Ravindra Jadeja by a dummy throw, to leave the audience in splits.&nbsp
&nbsp
But this time it was different for spectators as Dhoni started laughing the moment Delhi skipper Shyeras Iyer flipped the coin at the toss ceremony.

It was a funny scenario as when flipped, the coin landed several feet away from where the two captains and the match officials were present.&nbsp

IPL 2018: Virat Kohli opts to bowl against Delhi

Virat Kohli-led Bangalore will take on the already-eliminated Delhi team at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Saturday.

On one side, Bangalore can't afford to suffer the loss in tonight's game but Delhi have got nothing to lose and they can definitely spoil Virat's plans.

Bangalore have won just three wins from 10 games, have to win their remaining four games to have any chance of making the play-offs and given their ordinary run so far in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League, Bangalore doesn't evoke much hope even playing against a team which has already been eliminated.

Although, team Delhi is not in the play-off race but still they have improved their performance in the previous few games. In Delhi's previous encounter against Hyderabad, Rishabh Pant played a splendid inning and scored unbeaten 128 runs with a 200+ strike rate, he is also the orange cap holder at the moment.

Skipper Virat Kohli is the team's leading run-scorer with 396 runs at 49.50 but the team has failed miserably as they were unable to chase down a modest total of 147 runs.

The Bangalore have done alright with the ball and they would be hoping to maintain that at the high-scoring Kotla.

Pacers Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj have impressed in the different occasions.

It will be interesting to see how both teams will set the playing XI and there are chances that Shreyas Iyer might include Nepal's spinner Sandeep Lamichhane and South African pacer Junior Dala.

On the other hand, Virat Kolhi's side is quite balanced they just need to focus on collaborative efforts and teamwork.

Playing XI (TBC):

Delhi: Prithvi Shaw, Jason Roy, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Vijay Shankar, Liam Plunkett, Amit Mishra, Harshal Patel, Trent Boult, Shahbaz Nadeem

Bangalore: Quinton de Kock/Brendon McCullum, Parthiv Patel (wk), Virat Kohli (c), AB de Villiers, Mandeep Singh, Colin de Grandhomme, Washington Sundar, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammad Siraj.

IPL players who deserve a chance in Indian Cricket Team

The 30th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played between confident Chennai and resurgent Delhi on Monday.

Tipped to possess the most destructive batting lineup this season, Delhi have found the going tough and have lost five out of seven whereas Chennai, ridiculed as an 'old outfit', have just done the exact opposite to be placed second with ten points.

Chennai have been ruthless this season managing to win five out of seven matches played. But if we talk about the two teams, then after Gautam Gambhir decided to step down as captain, the resurgent Delhi defeated Kolkata by 55 runs.

Opener Prithvi Shaw and new skipper Shreyas Iyer smashed a half-century each to set a mammoth total of 219.

But, Iyer has to plan new strategies to survive this IPL and especially to defeat Chennai today.

The bowlers also performed against Kolkata with Trent Boult, Avesh Khan and Amit Mishra taking two wickets apiece.

Delhi will have to bowl out of their skin if they want to restrict the star-studded Chennai batting line-up to a paltry total.

Chennai, on the other hand, would be equally keen to get back to winning ways after they lost their last match to Mumbai by 8 wickets.

Ambati Raydu and Suresh Raina made 45 and 75 runs respectively to help Chennai seta decent score.

But it is their bowling department which failed to swing wickets in their favour.

And Dhoni needs to fix this problem to defeat rejuvenated Delhi.

So overall, today's game will be between Chennai's experience vs Delhi's youth.

IPL 2018: Shreyas shines in skipper role as Delhi set 220-run target for Kolkata

Gautam Gambhir has not been included in the squad of Delhi for the match against Kolkata on Friday, April 27 at Feroz Shah Kotla.

A few days back, Gambhir had stepped down as Delhi's captain and in his absence, Shreyas Iyer has been given the responsibility to lead the team.

So far Gambhir has scored just 85 runs in all six matches he played with a strike rate of 96.59 which is lowest among all other captains of IPL 2018.

Currently, MS Dhoni's strike rate is best of all, which is above 151 and his outstanding batting is reflected in Chennai's overall performance as well.

In a recent media interaction, when Gambhir had announced that he quit the captaincy, chief of Delhi franchise, Hemant Dua, had indicated that Gambhir will be guiding the players.

So, does that mean that Gautam Gambhir has been dropped from the team following his poor performance in IPL 2018?

IPL: After stepping down as Delhi captain, Gambhir dropped?

Dinesh Karthik won the toss and has opted to bowl at Feroz Shah Kotla against Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi.

Karthik has kept the playing XI almost similar to the previous clash, there is only one change in the squad, Mitchell Johnson is back at Tom Curran's place.

It was assumed that Andre Russell might not play as he had stretched his right hamstring in the last clash but contrary to that, he is fit and healthy available for tonight.

Recently, former Delhi skipper, Gautam Gambhir had stepped down as the captain and in his absence, Shreyas Iyer has been given the responsibility to lead the team.

Delhi is currently placed at the bottom of the points table and skipper Shreyas Iyer admitted that the team is slightly under pressure.

Delhi need to win seven out eight remaining matches to qualify further but "it's tough, not impossible," said recently appointed skipper, Shreyas Iyer.

Delhi have entered into today's clash after making two changes.

Surprisingly, Gautam Gambhir is not playing and also Dan Christian, Vijay Shankar and Colin Munro are in at their places.

Playing XI:

Delhi: Prithvi Shaw, Colin Munro, Glenn Maxwell, Rishabh Pant(w), Shreyas Iyer(c), Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Liam Plunkett, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Trent Boult

Kolkata: Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik(w/c), Andre Russell, Shubman Gill, Mitchell Johnson, Piyush Chawla, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav

IPL 2018: Dinesh Karthik opts to bowl against Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi

Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi host Kolkata on Friday at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. Delhi is currently placed at the bottom of points table and recently got a major blow when Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday stepped down as the captain and in his absence, Shreyas Iyer has been given the responsibility to lead the team.

Under the guidance of new captain, team Delhi is looking forward to reviving the current form.

Kolkata is currently placed at number four and will look to earn two crucial points to stretch the lead from Rajasthan.

On one hand, Delhi eye to salvage their pride but on the other Kolkata will be happy as their opponents are going through such a poor state.

The only change for Kolkata would be Andre Russell because he stretched his right hamstring while fielding in the last clash against Punjab. Other than that, the squad is fit and healthy.

For Delhi, under-19 stars have managed to fix their spots but Shreyas Iyer might rehash the squad to make a fresh start in the ongoing tournament. Also, Shahbaz Nadeem is expected to come back as Amit Mishra was effective in the last match.

IPL 2018: Match preview of Delhi vs Kolkata

Struck by the crisis emanating from Gautam Gambhir's resignation as captain, a beleaguered Delhi face a herculean task to revive their IPL campaign when they clash with Kolkata tomorrow under young skipper Shreyas Iyer.&nbsp

Gambhir leaving captaincy midway into the tournament does not guarantee resurrection of the side but the left-hander's decision has given the team management a chance to infuse new life into the franchise with new ideas.

Gambhir's rough patch, along with poor form of other batsmen, has resulted in over-reliance on young Rishabh Pant. The team has lost five of its six matches and is languishing at the bottom of the points table.

Gambhir the batsman would still be critical if a turnaround has to happen for the franchise but it remains to be seen if he remains in the playing XI.

The hosts are now in an unenvious position where they need to win seven of the remaining eight matches to be in Play-offs contention.&nbsp

The 23-year-old Iyer is faced with the enormous task of turning it around for the team as a leader.

The young batsman showed that he has the heart for a fight when he took it upon himself to steer the side against Punjab.

He almost pulled it off but fell short by one big shot. However, it was a performance which indicated that he is not averse to taking responsibility, which is the need of the hour.&nbsp

Delhi have not been particularly lucky on the fitness front either with Jason Roy (side strain) and Chris Morris (back problem) recovering.

The only game Delhi have won so far was shaped by Roy's unbeaten whirlwind knock of 91 on debut.&nbsp

A big player not to have clicked for them is Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.&nbsp

Maxwell has scores of 17, 13, 47, 4 and 12 so far and it is absolutely imperative for the Daredevils that he regains his form.

On the other hand, Kolkata&nbspare also struggling a bit with their bowling. But what has worked reasonably well for them is their batting. Their willow-wielders have been contributing consistently, twice taking the side past the 200-mark but bowlers have struggled to defend even big totals.&nbsp

Kolkata have won three matches and lost as many to sit fourth in the table.

The last time the two sides clashed, it was Kolkata which dominated by putting 200 runs on the board to win by a comprehensive 71-run margin.

It's a spin-heavy attack with Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav and Piyush Chawla doing the bulk of the job.

The slow conditions at the Feroze Shah Kotla are likely to suit this combination while the young Shivam Mavi and England's Tom Curran would spearheading the pace attack.

Australian quick Mitchell Johnson has got only two games so far.

Andre Russell has done a fine all-round job for them and the West Indian continues to be a vital cog for them. His brute power would be of immense use on Kotla pitch where the ball may not come on to the bat easily. The conditions will testing for Kolkata batsmen.&nbsp
