Iyer got the better of Kohli
Delhi defeated Bangalore by four wickets to hand the Virat Kohli-led side their sixth defeat on the trot of the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Iyer was a better captain on the ground in comparison to Kohli. He made sure the strategies and plans worked for Delhi.
If Bangalore loses its next game it will hold an unsavoury record of losing most number of matches (seven) in the first half of an IPL season, surpassing Delhi's record of six defeats.
Shreyas Iyer's batting
Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer displayed some spectacular cricketing prowess as he smashed a crucial half century to give his side a victory over Bangalore.
Iyer smashed 67 runs off 50 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes, as Delhi crossed the mark with seven balls to spare despite losing three quick wickets by the end.
Bangalore kept losing wickets
Bangalore kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Virat Kohli was playing run a ball game and was trying to lead the charge as wickets kept falling at the other end.
Even in the post-match presentation, Kohli highlight the reason why they lost .
"We thought 160 would be competitive, but we kept losing wickets at regular intervals, so I wanted to take the game deep. Even 150, had we held on to our chances, would've been difficult for them. We need to grab those chances, can't give excuses every day."
Rabada's 4-wicket haul
Delhi pacer Kagiso Rabada is the man who stopped Bangalore from setting up a huge score.
He clinched 4 for 21 on a two-paced wicket that kept Virat Kohli-led team down to a below-par total of 149, which was chased down relatively easily as conditions for batting improved under lights.
Kohli's slow run rate
Kohli, who took 33 balls for his 41 runs after largely going a-run-a-ball, said he had no option but to play in run-a-ball fashion.
Moeen Ali, who performed well with ball also, contributed with 32 runs. Apart from these two, no other batsman has reached the 20 digit mark.
Bangalore lacked team effort
Not just batting and bowling, it was Bangalore's poor fielding that leaked many runs for Delhi.
Talking about poor fielding of his side which has now dropped 15 catch chances, Kohli hinted pressure is playing in players' mind. Kohli said his side needs to needs relax and accept whatever comes "in front of us".
