<p>Baloch "suggested" that government officials should stop the use of air conditioners and heaters in their offices and that protocols and allowances given to them should be halted. He also proposed that as a means to save electricity street lights should be switched on post 10 pm and that the excessive use of electricity on national highways should be curbed.</p>

<p>On Tuesday the Pakistan government announced the energy conservation plan that enforces market closure at 8:30 pm, while wedding halls are slated to be shut at 10 pm. Reportedly all department of the federal government has also been asked to reduce electricity usage by 30 per cent.</p>

<p>The reply further pointed out that the former cricketer-turned-politician flew for 522 hours in helicopter in 2020, which cost the exchequer Rs 140 million. The following year 2021 saw Khan using 450 hours of VVIV flights, which resulted into bills over Rs120 million, reported Geo News.</p>

<p>The details about Khan’s helicopter expenses were revealed following a probe by the&nbsp;National Accountability Bureau (NAB) earlier this month on the illegal use of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s helicopters. The KP region is governed by Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.</p>

<p>It was revealed that those who used the chopper for private use owe Rs 90 million to the provincial administration.</p>

<p>The development came in reaction to the usage of choppers used by Khan, former and current provincial and federal ministers, including others.</p>

<p>The NAB had asked the KP government&nbsp;to recover the cost of all the illegal helicopter trips taken by "influential politicians, public officeholders" and others.</p>

<p>To tackle this, the KP government in November this year drafted a proposal to amend the laws regarding the use of its helicopter and other matters in the province.</p>

<p>Following the amendment, no one will be able to question the chopper's use, including who uses it and why is it being used.</p>

Imran Khan’s copter rides cost Rs 430 million to exchequer, says Pakistan govt reeling under debt

<p>Suleman Shahbaz, the son of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, returned home on Sunday (December 11) after spending four years in London. The news agency Associated Press reported that Suleman has come home to face the corruption charges that were filed against him in 2020.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After Suleman's return, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former premier Imran Khan slammed the government for the blatant "injustice" in the country, and also called out the government for the economic crisis.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report also mentioned that after reaching Islamabad early Sunday, Suleman took a flight to his hometown of Lahore. Ata Tarar, a spokesman for Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League party said that Suleman met with his father at the prime minister's residence.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The federal officers won't be able to arrest Suleman as his lawyers have already obtained protective bail for him from the Islamabad High Court last week. The court orders will be in effect until Tuesday and will restrict the officers from arresting him. He can surrender before the trial court.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In November 2020, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) charged Sharif and his two sons with corruption and money laundering. The FIA has accused the three of laundering nearly $200 million between 2008 and 2018.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In 2018, Suleman flew to London and was never tried for charges. Meanwhile, the Pakistan prime minister and his son Hamza were acquitted by a court in October.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, former PM Khan lashed out at the government. He said that "if anyone wants to understand why Pakistan’s economy is a disaster, just two incidents provide the answer".&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said that the 75-year-old Senator Azam Swati has been "subjected to custodial torture, beaten up in front of his grandchildren, his house vandalised &amp; sealed, &amp; he is being dragged from&nbsp;one prov to another under multiple false FIRs against him in total violation of all laws &amp; basic human rights enshrined in our Constitution."</p>

<p>Amid concerns over Nizamani's health, Sharif tweeted to inform that he spoke to the Head of Mission, who is safe now.&nbsp;</p>

<p>WION learned from sources that Pakistan is to send in a special flight to evacuate its Head of Mission, embassy personnel and staff and the injured soldier for the time being, later today or tomorrow early morning. It will depend on the health of the injured man.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reportedly, the Sharif administration is willing to amend the Pakistan Army Act (PAA) 1952 which will allow the prime minister to retain any serving officer through a simple notification. Currently, the constitutional process is complex as well as tedious.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to local media reports, the proposed changes were already approved by the ministry of defence last month. The next step will be presenting the amended legislation before the Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases (CCLC), after which it will head to the parliament.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday said he did not want an army chief of his choice but someone who is selected on merit.&nbsp;“I say that the army chief should be appointed on merit. I don’t want an army chief, judge, IG or NAB head of my choice. I want the best people on the basis of merit," said Khan during a televised address to participants of his long march.</p>

<p>The cricketer-turned-politician also iterated that he never made the appointment of the key army post 'controversial'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The statement by Khan is being seen as an attempt to neutralise the allegations levelled by current PM Shehbaz Sharif a few weeks back.</p>

<p>As reported by WION, Sharif had claimed that his predecessor contacted him a month ago and offered the name of three candidates who could be nominated for the post of army chief.</p>

<p>"Imran Khan suggested that we give him three names and he gives three names for the post of army chief and then we decide on the appointment of the new chief from those six names," said Sharif.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If there is a common name in both the lists, then we will agree.&nbsp;I flatly refused Imran Khan's offer by saying 'thank you'," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If Sharif and his son-in-law Imran Ali Yousaf's statement are not deemed to comply with the law,&nbsp;they will have to pay the defendant i.e Daily Mail $35,000 (£30,000) as litigation costs incurred during the case.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The first claimant [Sharif] must pay the defendant’s [paper’s] costs of and occasioned by a) the stay application b) his original reply (including the costs arising from the process by which extensions of time were sought and agreed in respect of the same,” read the judgement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier, PM Sharif informed the media that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan had contacted him&nbsp;a month ago and offered him the name of three candidates who could be nominated for the post of army chief.</p>

<p>As reported by WION, in the aftermath of the attack, during a televised address, the PTI boss accused PM Shehbaz Sharif along with the country's interior minister Rana Sanaullah and a senior military officer of plotting the attack on him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met in Beijing on Wednesday, where the talks centred around Islamabad’s economic crisis and the need to boost projects under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, according to the state media.</p>

<p>This is Sharif’s first official visit to China after taking charge earlier this year, and so is the case of Xi after recently concluding its twice-a-decade party congress where he was elected unopposed for third-term.</p>

<p>Both leaders met at the People’s Great Hall of China and discussed moving forward more with the construction of their economic corridor and accelerating the construction of infrastructure for the Gwadar Sea Port, state media reported.</p>

<p>Their conversation ranged on broad-based economic cooperation and investment, besides exchanging views on regional and global developments.</p>

<p>Shehbaz and Xi also discussed the need to further promote the 'all-weather strategic cooperation partnership' between the two nations.</p>

<p>CPEC is the flagship project of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)—a pet project of Xi—which is a collection of infrastructure projects that are under construction throughout Pakistan beginning in 2013.</p>

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met in Beijing on Wednesday, where the talks centred around Islamabad’s economic crisis and the need to boost projects under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, according to the state media.

Notably, ahead of his visit, Sharif hurriedly cleared $12 billion worth of three major projects were cleared under the CPEC, reports Dawn newspaper. <p><meta name="uuid" content="uuiddxm7LGYVSk2j" /><meta charset="utf-8" />Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday claimed that his predecessor Imran Khan contacted him a month ago and offered him the name of three candidates who could be nominated for the post of army chief.</p>

<p>According to local media reports, Sharif made the revelation while holding a meeting with social media influencers in the eastern city of Lahore.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Imran Khan suggested that we give him three names and he gives three names for the post of army chief and then we decide on the appointment of the new chief from those six names," said Sharif.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If there is a common name in both the lists, then we will agree.&nbsp;I flatly refused Imran Khan's offer by saying 'thank you'," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Pakistan PM said he "only offered to hold talks on the charter of democracy and the charter of economy".</p>

<p>“I sent a message [to Imran Khan] that the appointment of army chief is the constitutional right of the prime minister and I would do it on my own,” he added.</p>
