As the polling began, Khan urged people in large numbers in the constituencies where the by-election was held. Sharif, on the other hand, warned the voters to cast their votes carefully for the development and welfare of the country, as the&nbsp;future depends on it, ANI reported.

Despite PTI's nine MNAs in the lower house, four general seats and two for reserved seats, resigning for women, the party claimed its victory.

The Election Commission of Pakistan results showed that nearly 101 candidates from different parties and a few independents were voting. The Commission further claimed that the overall polling remained peaceful, though it still received 15 complaints of code violations.

As per reports, the ruling government wanted to delay the by-elections for 90 days as it stated that the security personnel and other officials were busy assisting with flood relief.

On the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, Sharif said that the engagement between the two countries is important for the peace and prosperity of the region but remained silent on the issue of terrorism in the recent past.

“We are willing to engage with India for the sake of peace, prosperity, and progress of the region. We cannot afford to have more poverty and unemployment on both sides of the border. Absolutely willing to have serious dialogue and discussions with our counterpart provided they show the sincerity of purpose,” Sharif said when asked about possible talks with India.

Sharif further said that the talks will be possible if both countries can keep aside issues that have caused rifts in the past and added that he is “committed to move forward”.

“If we don’t act speedily, then history will not forgive us. We can talk if they show that they are ready to discuss issues which have kept us at a distance over decades. This has to come to a stop and I am absolutely committed and ready to move forward.”

According to the FIA report submitted in the court, the probe team had "detected 28 benami accounts of the Shehbaz family through which money laundering of Rs 16.3bn was committed during 2008-18. The FIA examined the money trail of 17,000 credit transactions." The term that evokes images of secret diplomatic and intelligence communications crept its way into the South Asian country's daily news terminology after claims from former prime minister Imran Khan about a conspiracy to oust him. He was indeed removed from office, but his oft-repeated references to a 'cypher' has led to a controversy that refuses to die down.&nbsp;

The latest development is that a&nbsp;former diplomat on Sunday questioned the federal cabinet's decision to reevaluate the cypher's details in a cabinet report.

The 'cypher controversy' escalated in the wake of recent audio leaks of several political leaders, including that of Khan.&nbsp;

The diplomat in conversation with The Express Tribune said, "By revealing the date and number and stating that it was annexed with the summary, an impression arises that the whole cabinet has read it and thus violated the secrets act."&nbsp;

"Even citing cypher No and date is a violation of the official secret act," the ex-diplomat said.

So what exactly is a cypher?

Simply put, cypher is a secret, restricted diplomatic communication written in some kind of code language, with a specif number and date assigned to it. Deeply encrypted and difficult to decode, a cypher is divided as per its grade. There are two grades for circulation; grade I and grade II. The first grade has limited circulation in comparison to the second one. Cypher details are machine-generated as per the distribution list unless it has been specified by a dignified person.&nbsp;

After the Financial Times said a United Nations development agency was urging the cash-strapped country to restructure its debt, Pakistan's bonds slumped to just half their face value throughout the day.

Geo News reported that Nawaz had called for a change in the direction of economic policies as he had not been happy with the economic policies of current finance minister Miftah Ismail.

Citing a source close to PML-N, Geo News reported that Nawaz was worried that the rise in prices of commodities had directly affected ordinary people which has impacted the support base of the party.

The source, who was privy to the meeting between the Sharif brothers, said that PTI Chief Imran Khan's long march will be dealt with by all legal means.

The Pakistani government will not tolerate any pressure from the PTI and the next general elections will be held on time, claimed the source.

At the end of the leaked audio, the conversion between the two then steers toward former Justice Maqbool Baqir, who was being considered as the next head of the National Accountability Bureau.

The government official is heard conveying to the prime minister the ‘suggestion’ of two media persons, asking him not to consider the former judge for the slot of NAB chairman, in view of their experience with former NAB chief Javed Iqbal, who was also a retired judge appointed by the PML-N government.

Pakistan once again launched an anti-India tirade and raked up the Kashmir issue at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday (September 23) even and levelled unsubstantiated charges while claiming that it wants peace with all its neighbours.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif began his address on the fourth day of the 77th session of UNGA by referring to the unprecedented floods in Pakistan and their disastrous impact on the residents.&nbsp;

"Our glaciers are melting fast, our forests are burning and our heat waves have crossed 53 degrees celcius, making us the hottest place on the planet," Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said while calling for climate action. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and apart from his Kashmir rhetoric, he drew the attention of the global body to the climate disaster his country is facing.

Stating that&nbsp;climate disasters will not remain confined to his country, Sharif took a subtle dig at western nations who blame developing nations for global warming.

"What happened in Pakistan will not stay in Pakistan. Pakistan has never seen a more stark and devastating example of the impact of global warming. Life in Pakistan has changed forever," said Sharif.

"Why are my people paying such high price of global warming through no fault of their own? Nature has unleashed her fury on Pakistan without looking at our carbon footprint, which is next to nothing," he added.

Sharif further lamented about the people who had died in the devastating floods.&nbsp;

“For 40 days and 40 nights, biblical flood poured on us. Even today, huge swathes of the country are still under water. 33 million people including women, and children are at high risk of health hazards. More than 1,500 of my people, including 400 children, have gone from the world. Far more are in peril," said the PM.

Before shifting to his anti-India tirade, Sharif signed off on his climate change speech by&nbsp;urging global action.

"It is high time we took a pause from the preoccupations of the 20th century to return to the challenges of the 21st. The entire definition of national security has changed today, and unless the leaders of the world come together to act now behind minimum agreed agenda, there will be no earth to fight wars over. Nature will be fighting back, and for that humanity is no match," said Sharif.

Pakistan demands reparations

As reported by WION, earlier this month, Pakistan's federal climate minister Sherry Rehman argued that the western nations owe developing nations reparations for accelerating climate change.&nbsp;

“There is so much loss and damage with so little reparations to countries that contributed so little to the world’s carbon footprint that obviously the bargain made between the global north and global south is not working," said Rehman.&nbsp;

Rehman in clear terms batted for a reset of targets and asserted that “richer countries must do more”.

“Historic injustices have to be heard and there must be some level of climate equation so that the brunt of the irresponsible carbon consumption is not being laid on nations near the equator which are obviously unable to create resilient infrastructure on their own," she added.&nbsp;
