<p>"After the spread of malaria in #Pakistan, the ministry of health asked the government of Pakistan for permission to buy mosquito nets from #India. There is an urgent need for 71 lakh mosquito nets in 26 districts of Pakistan," tweeted Shah.</p>

<p>He further claimed that in the past two months, two lakh people have contracted malaria in the flood-affected Sindh and Balochistan, with 22 per cent of those cases being of the plasmodium falciparum kind.</p>

<p>The temporary medical facilities and mobile clinics in the flooded areas have treated more than 78,000 patients in the past 24 hours and more than 2 million since July 1, said the southern Sindh provincial government.</p>

<p>WHO’s director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said “I am deeply concerned about the potential for a second disaster in Pakistan: a wave of disease and death following this catastrophe, linked to climate change, that has severely impacted vital health systems leaving millions vulnerable.”</p>

<p>Following the fatal floods in Pakistan, doctors and medical workers on the ground are racing to battle outbreaks of waterborne and other diseases.</p>

<p>While the dirty and stagnant waters have become breeding grounds for mosquitos, displaced people are living in tents and makeshift camps and are increasingly facing the threat of gastrointestinal infections.</p>

<p>Admitting that the incessant “monstrous” rainfall had “made it hard to carry out relief operations”, minister for climate change Sherry Rehman said a “war room” has been established by the prime minister at NDMA.</p>

<p>Comparing the current situation with the devastating 2010 floods, Rehman had said earlier this week that the massive rains and flooding in Pakistan have affected more than 30 million people over the last few weeks.</p>

<p>Adding that all tent manufacturers had been mobilised and external donors were also approached for tents, she said Sindh has asked for one million tents and Balochistan has demanded 100,000 tents.</p>

<p>Urging citizens to come forward and help their compatriots at this critical juncture, information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb evoked the “national spirit”.</p>

<p>UN agency Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revealed in a report that more than 82,000 homes have been damaged and 150 kilometres of roads had been damaged across the country in the last 24 hours.</p>

<p>According to several estimates, India's neighbouring country needs at least $41 billion in the next 12 months to fund debt repayments and boost foreign exchange reserves that have fallen to a lowly sum of $7.8 billion.</p>

<p>Standing on the verge of bankruptcy, Pakistan, however, was given a glimmer of hope earlier last month when the IMF decided to resume a 2019 signed $6 billion loan programme.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, good news came on the day Sharif departed for Qatar as the oil-rich country announced that it will provide $2 billion in bilateral support to the South Asian country.</p>

<p>Moreover, Pakistan will also receive $1 billion in oil financing from Saudi Arabia and a similar amount in investments from the UAE, over 12 months.</p>

<p>The next IMF meeting is scheduled to take place on August 29 and with a part of the funding secured, Pakistan PM will be hopeful that the global monetary body releases the funds.</p>

<p>It is pertinent to note that the Pakistan government under PM Sharif has also brought an ordinance which grants it the power to sell state assets such as oil and gas companies to foreign nations without any checks.</p>
