The Asia Cup contest between the arch-rivals is the 14th meeting between the sides with India leading the head-to-head 7-5. India won the group stage clash between the sides in the 2022 Asia Cup that was played in the T20I format while they lost in the Super Four stage.

Pakistan on the flip side, made no changes to the winning combination from the Nepal game as they went unchanged. Babar Azam’s side will guarantee passage into the Super Four with a win while India will look to make a positive start to their Asia Cup campaign. Chopra highlighted Siraj's record in Asia, which is better than outside the subcontinent, and heaped praise on him. On his YouTube channel, Chopra lauded Siraj and&nbsp;also praised Jasprit Bumrah, who has recently made his international comeback&nbsp;after a long injury layoff&nbsp;during the Ireland T20Is.

Chopra said, "Mohammed Siraj is brilliant. He has had a short career. 43 wickets in 24 matches at an average of 20.7 and an economy rate of 4.78. Chopra shifted focus on Bumrah and added, "Jasprit Bumrah has picked up 121 wickets in 72 matches at an average of 24.3 and an economy rate of 4.63. He is brilliant - nearly two wickets per game. In Asia also, his average is 23.9 and he has an economy rate of 4.65. These are phenomenal numbers."

At present, the Indian players are gearing up for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, to be jointly held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, which kicks off on August 30. India play their tournament opener versus arch-rivals Pakistan on September 02 in Pallekele, Sri Lanka. "I think there is an area from where the ball is coming up, there is a little grass around the crack and the length is such that batsmen can't leave the deliveries easily. You have to play committedly because we saw today many balls kept down and I mean that is an area of good length, and I mean, that area is at a good length, a little short of length. So that's the area where the batsmen can't immediately see and leave the ball. You have to play it. And if it bounces from there – then good luck for the batsmen. "Well, cricket is a funny game. You can never say what is the right total and this one-off game, especially ICC finals, you never know, I mean, who can handle the pressure better out there - one good partnership and you can even chase down 450 or maybe more than that," Thakur said.

"So last year... England chased 400 and they did not lose too many wickets. So that's a positive sign for us. Whatever they put up on the board, it's too early to make any predictions. We see a lot of times in Test cricket that the game changes within an hour. So yes, we like to be optimistic tomorrow going on the field. And yeah, we'll take it on from there."

After starting Day 3 at 151/5, the Indian team did not have the best start as they lost Srikar Bharat on 5 runs on the second ball of the day. However, then Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur stitched a partnership of 111 runs for the seventh wicket. Rahane departed soon after the start of the second session having scored 89 runs and his 26th Test fifty while he missed out on the hundred.

Shardul then took control of the Indian innings but did not get the required help at the other end. Shardul too scored his third consecutive fifty at the Oval, going level with Don Bradman and Steve Waugh in doing so. He was dismissed for 51 while India were bowled out for 296 runs. The partnership between the pair of Shardul and Rahane helped India avoid the follow-on though the team trailed by 173 runs in the first innings.

Out to bat in the second innings, the Aussies did not have the best start and lost David Warner (1) in the fourth over as Mohammed Siraj was bowling full throttle. Umesh Yadav also struck to dismiss Usman Khawaja on 13 to put the Aussies on the back foot. However, the partnership between Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne saw&nbsp;Australia close to the 100-run mark. Smith was dismissed on 34 at 86/3 by Ravindra Jadeja&nbsp;who was soon back in action and scalped Travis Head for 18.

The Aussies ended&nbsp;the day at 123/4 and are leading by 296 runs and could give India a big headache if they extend the lead by 400 runs or more on Day 4.

WTC Final: Shardul Thakur optimistic about India's chances, says 'you can even chase down 450'

The two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kept their faint playoff hopes alive with a stunning six-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 61 of the IPL&nbsp;2023 edition on Sunday evening (May 14). The likes of Sunil Narine (2 for 15), Varun Chakaravarthy (2 for 37), Rinku Singh (43-ball 54) and skipper Nitish Rana (57 not out) propelled their side to a much-needed win as Kolkata stay alive in the playoffs race.

While Rinku and Varun have been one of KKR's most consistent performers this season, Narine, Andre Russell, and Shardul Thakur have been below par. Ahead of the CSK-KKR clash in Chennai, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris took a dig at Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur.

"Shardul Thakur looks lost as a cricketer. The worst thing as an all-rounder than you can be called is a bits-and-pieces cricketer,” Styris told&nbsp;JioCinema.

Shardul has featured in 10 games in this year's season. The 31-year-old has accounted for five scalps and scored 110 runs. He missed a few games due to injury concerns.

KKR have one more game to play, versus the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at home, and, thus, Shardul will be hungry to silence his critics with a memorable all-round performance. His side needs to win at all costs and hope for a number of results to go in their favour to qualify for the playoffs with 14 points, the maximum they can reach in case of another win.&nbsp;

After Shai Hope's century and Nicholas Pooran's 77 propelled the Windies to 311/6, with hosts opting to bat first, Shikhar Dhawan-led Men in Blue were in a spot of bother in their run-chase and were&nbsp;reduced to 79/3.&nbsp;

After half-centurions Sanju Samson-Shreyas Iyer's 99-run fourth-wicket stand kept India alive, Axar Patel's 35-ball 64 not out took India past the finish line, with two balls to spare,&nbsp;in a close encounter as visitors won by two wickets and also clinched the ODI series. Punjab began on a promising note with in-form Jonny Bairstow punishing Khaleel Ahmed and Nortje with fours and sixes to take his side to 27 for no loss at the end of third over.

But from there the collapse began as five Punjab batsmen gone back to the hut one after the other as they were reduced to for 5 at the end of the eighth over.

Bairstow (28 off 15 balls) fell to Nortje in the fourth over before a struggling Shrdul Thakur took two wickets -- that of Bhanuka Rajapaksa (4) and Shikhar Dhawan (19) -- in three balls in the sixth over to change the complexion of the game.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has slammed Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant, assistant coach Pravin Amre and others for their 'unacceptable' behaviour after a controversial no-ball call during their side's clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2022 on Friday.

DC's assistant coach Amre had stormed onto the field to protest against the on-field umpire's call after a no-ball call went RR's way in the last over of the match. Rovman Powell was out batting in the middle with Kuldeep Yadav in the final over of DC's 218-run chase when the incident stole the limelight.

With 36 required off the last over, Powell struck two&nbsp;sixes off the first two deliveries from Obed McCoy in the 20th over&nbsp;before the West Indies fast bowler bowled an above waist-height full-toss which was also dispatched for a six. While it appeared to be a clear no-ball, the on-field umpire adjudged it a legal delivery triggering animatic reactions from the DC camp.

After it was not given a no-ball, Powell signalled the umpire to check with the third umpire.&nbsp;DC skipper, Pant and all-rounder Shardul Thakur were seen furious in the dugout as Pant even went on to signal his batters to leave the field in protest. However, coach Amre was then sent on the field to talk with the umpires in protest against the no-ball call.

While many agreed it was an error on the umpire's part as it was a clear no-ball, several former cricketers and experts criticised Delhi Capitals for their actions. Pietersen lashed out at Pant, Amre and others and said what he saw from them was not good for the game of cricket.

"I don’t think that would have happened if Ricky Ponting was there. I think Jos Buttler had every right to walk up to Rishabh Pant and say ‘what on earth are you doing?’ to send one of their coaches onto the field and think that was the correct behaviour," said Pietersen on Star Sports.

“We play the gentleman’s game. People make mistakes. How many times have we nicked off or not nicked off and been given out? Been given out LBW when we were not out? Myself and Swanny have played the great game for 20 odd years. And you see stuff like we have seen in the last 30 minutes, it’s not good for the game of cricket. It’s not good at all.

“I don’t know who they think they are but that was a mistake, that was a huge, huge mistake.

“The biggest mistake is the coach running onto the field and talking to the umpire. I just do not understand the coach, he is a senior figure in those rooms. Rishabh Pant was calling them off. They wanted to walk off. For me, that was unacceptable and I hope I never ever see that again in the game of cricket because that’s not why we play cricket and not how we play cricket,” he added.

DC head coach Ricky Ponting had missed the game as he was in quarantine after one of his family members tested positive for COVID-19. Despite DC's animated protest, the no-ball decision stood as they went on to lose the game by 15 runs after Powell only managed 2 runs off the next three&nbsp;balls.

The clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) was marred with a huge controversy after Rishabh Pant &amp; Co. protested against a controversial no-ball call by the on-field umpire in the dying moments of the game. The DC trio of Pant, Shardul and Amre has been reprimanded by the IPL Governing Council over a breach of the Code of Conduct.

The incident happened during the final over Delhi Capitals' 223-run chase against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While skipper Pant was seen quite animated in the dugout, Shardul was also spotted objecting to the decision. However, things took a dramatic turn when Pant sent DC's assistant coach Pravin Amre on the field to talk to the umpire and protest against the no-ball decision.

Amre stormed onto the field and was seen having a discussion with the on-field umpire. Pant, Amre and others were widely criticised by many on social media for their unwarranted actions. While several former cricketers and experts felt that the umpire should have checked with the third umpire for the no-ball, they also felt Pant's actions were uncalled for.

<h2>IPL penalises Pant, Amre and Shardul:</h2>

The IPL Governing Council announced sanctions against Pant, Shardul and coach Amre on Saturday (April 23) following their misconduct in the game against Rajasthan Royals. While Pant has been fined 100% of his match fees, Shardul has been fined 50% of his match fees and admitted to a Level 2 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

On the other hand, DC's assistant coach Amre has been fined 100% of his match fees and has also been banned for one match. Amre admitted to Level 2 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

It was a waistline no-ball but the on-field umpire adjudged it a legal delivery leaving the Delhi Capitals camp fuming. While skipper Pant was seen quite animated in the dugout, Shardul was also spotted objecting to the decision. However, things took a dramatic turn when Pant sent DC's assistant coach Pravin Amre on the field to talk to the umpire and protest against the no-ball decision. Thus, security has also been beefed up around the DC camp following the incident.&nbsp;

The likes of Rajasthan Royals, debutant Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings made good use of their large purses in roping in some of the best talents as they enjoyed a brilliant auction on the&nbsp;opening day of the two-day event.
