Moreover, during 2022 Ranji Trophy Final, his conduct during the break upset MP Coach and Mumbai veteran Chandrakant Pandit. As also perceived by many pundits that Sarfaraz’s inability to tackle extra pace and his latest IPL 2023 records are one of the reasons why he is not getting picked for international cricket, the BCCI official, replying to this, said, "When Mayank Agarwal broke into the Indian Test team, he scored 1000 first-class runs in one month. Did MSK Prasad's committee check his IPL credentials? Ditto for Hanuma Vihari, who came through domestic and A team ranks. If their IPL and white ball record wasn't checked then, why would SS Das's committee reinvent the wheel now? Simple. The reason is not a cricketing one," he added. The official concluded by asking, "Just think about it. Why was Sarfaraz not even among the reserves for the World Test Championship? Suryakumar Yadav, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, were the two reserves after Ruturaj pulled out due to his marriage." As things stand, Ruturaj is kept as Ajinkya Rahane’s backup till Shreyas Iyer returns from injury, while Yashasvi Jaiswal is looked upto as the future top-order batter in Tests. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra was one among many who criticised Sarfaraz's omission from both Test and limited-over squad. Notably, other young players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been included in the Test squad while Gaikwad making the cut for ODIs as well.&nbsp;

Sarfaraz, however, did not have a great IPL 2023 during which he played in just four matches and scored only 53 runs for Delhi Capitals. Gaikwad and Jaiswal, however, had a brilliant season unlike Khan as they scored 590 runs in 16 games and 625 runs in 14 games, respectively.

As per the latest reports, the board has picked five players, mainly Sarfaraz Khan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar, as backups.

The BCCI has named a few standbys for the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia, the final 15-member squad for which was announced recently. As per the latest reports, the board has picked five players, mainly Sarfaraz Khan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar, as backups. Ahead of the final, which begins on June 7th at the Oval, the Indian team will also play a multi-day warm-up game. As per Times of India (TOI), an unnamed senior BCCI official has conveyed these names for standbys and also informed that those players, who will not feature in the IPL 2023 playoffs, which start from May 23rd, will travel to England earlier than others to get acclimatise to the conditions. Upon hitting his fastest fifty in his debut match for CSK, Rahane broke the shackles with his incredible 29-ball 71 against Kolkata Knight Riders, hitting six fours and five sixes. Trying to find his feet after losing the BCCI’s central contract, Rahane, who also did well in the Ranji season before this, shined under MS Dhoni in yellow colours – and given his run of form, he is not likely to put a full stop. While Rahane’s selection raised questions over the criteria for picking players in international cricket, a few others, like former head coach Ravi Shastri backed this call of going ahead with him in the all-important final. "Because of the way he bats, you sort of wonder whether he's a Test potential kind of a player. But the amount of runs he's got in the last two seasons - and he doesn't get 103, 104, he gets big scores and it comes very quickly as well at a great strike rate," Manjrekar said during a press conference organised by Sony Sports Network.

"So even if you don't have a spot readily available - you want to try out the incumbents first, because Shreyas Iyer has grabbed the opportunity as a Test batter by getting runs - there is absolutely no harm in getting Sarfaraz Khan in closer to the Indian Test squad," he added.

The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel on Saturday (February 19) announced India's squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka at home. The squad selection has hinted at the beginning of a new era of the Test team as the selectors dropped four senior players from the side while naming Rohit Sharma the captain after Virat Kohli's departure.

The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha and Ishant Sharma have been axed from the Test squad and have been replaced by youngsters. While the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal are likely to get more chances in the middle-order now, Saha has been replaced by young wicket-keeper KS Bharat, who is seen as a long-term competitor of Rishabh Pant for the first-choice keeper's spot.

Despite a number of young players being included in the squad, former India cricketer and national selector Dilip Vengsarkar is not happy with some of the decisions of the Sharma-led selection panel. Both Gaikwad and Sarfaraz have been enjoying a stellar run in the domestic circuit and have been scoring runs consistently for their respective state teams. Vengsarkar accused the selectors of 'not applying their minds' while selecting the team.

"It seems there isn't application of mind when the team is selected. How can one explain the omission of Ruturaj and Sarfaraz, who are two of the most prolific scorers in the domestic circuit? Looking at the team, a couple of players, though talented, haven't done much to merit their place in the squad," the former selector was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

"Let every player earn his place in the team and not take it for granted. Ruturaj and Sarfaraz deserve a place. The selectors are damaging their morale by not selecting them for India," he added.

While Gaikwad was the highest run-getter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 with 603 runs from five matches at an average of over 150, Sarfaraz has been dominating bowling attacks in the Ranji Trophy over the last couple of years. The right-hander has&nbsp;1995 runs to his name at an average of 199 in nine matches since the 2019 season.

Gaikwad is currently part of India's ODI and T20I squads but is yet to receive his maiden call-up in Tests. Sarfaraz has not received his maiden international call up for Team India yet.

Sarfaraz said Pakistan had made too many mistakes of their own in a match where they were dismissed for 266 in 45.4 overs.

They now have three points from four games, with two defeats, one win -- a surprise success over tournament hosts and favourites England -- and a no-result.

"My dad has left us. He passed away on December 31 at 6pm as per Canadian time due to prolonged illness. He slipped into coma in the afternoon. He was in the hospital for 16-17 weeks.

"The last rites will be performed here in Canada only. We have our entire family here and we live here so we are doing it," Sarfaraz said.

Khan was shifted to the hospital under intensive care on December 28 as he suffered breathlessness. Sarfaraz confirmed the news then and revealed that he has been put on a BiPAP ventilator instead of a regular one.

Khan was said to be suffering from Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) as well. It is a degenerative disease involving slow deterioration and loss of specific volumes of the brain.

Khan's health deteriorated furthermore after a knee surgery in 2017 that was successful but the actor slowly lost his strength and ability to walk. He also showed symptoms of pneumonia and was unable to communicate.

Khan's loss is a big jolt to the industry. He starred in films like "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi", "Akhiyon Se Goli Maare", "Joru Ka Ghulam", "Haseena Maan Jaayegi", and others.

He reportedly suffered from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a degenerative disease that causes loss of balance, difficulty in walking and dementia.

His health deteriorated after a knee surgery in February 2017 that left him wheelchair-bound. While many reported that the surgery went bad, his son refuted these reports and revealed that Khan made no serious efforts to stand on his feet.

"The surgery did not go wrong. It was just that my father refused to get up after the surgery. We were told that he has to make an effort and try to start walking from the next day. He just didn't do that," said Sarfaraz.

Khan was also reportedly suffering from pneumonia that led him to be unable to communicate.

As reports of him being hospitalised surfaced, many Bollywood stars whom Khan has worked with, started sending their prayers. Actor Amitabh Bachchan had tweeted last Friday praying for Khan's recovery. "KADER KHAN .. actor writer of immense talent .. lies ill in Hospital ..
