<p>A speech by the SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher has gone viral now. Excoriating Hollywood studios, Drescher called them "disgusting" for their claims of financial losses while allocating hundreds of millions of dollars to their CEOs. She shed light on the marginalisation, disrespect, and dishonour experienced by actors in the industry.</p>

We condemn this rhetoric of hate.”</p>

<p>As a response, a membershipFirst source told Deadline: “We have no response to this bullsh*t. The lawyers are involved and they’re dealing with it. Let them name names, and they better start putting all of their properties in trust. It’s all bullsh*t. They won’t debate the issues.”</p>

<p>SAG AFTRA Health Plan trustees and Hilary Swank have decided to resolve issues listed in the lawsuit by the actress in which she asked a judge to resume coverage of her treatment for recurrent malignant ovarian cysts. She has been suffering from it for 12 years now.</p>

<p>In the lawsuit, Hilary Swank claims that the SAG AFTRA Health Plan would cover the treatment of ovarian cysts but the trustees later denied and then retracted in favour of the actress. This happened in 2009. In 2015, “the Trustees reversed course and stopped allowing Swank’s claims for treatment of ovarian cysts. It also just so happened that around the same time as when the Trustees no longer agreed to allow Swank’s claims, Swank was undergoing procedures to preserve her ability to conceive in the future. Seizing upon Swank’s choice to keep her options open, the Trustees pointed to an exclusion in the Plan for ‘infertility treatment,’ relying on the notion that the only purpose of preserving the health of an ovary is to procreate.”</p>

<p>The suit adds: “This matter addresses the shockingly antiquated question of whether the sole purpose of a woman, and specifically her ovaries, is to procreate. When faced with a claim for insurance benefits for the medically necessary treatment of ovarian cysts and endometriosis, the Trustees answered ‘yes,’ determining that there could be no possible reason to treat those conditions other than for the purpose of trying to conceive.”</p>

<p>The suit said that “the purpose of treating and monitoring Swank’s sole remaining ovary was unrelated to any ‘infertility treatment.’ Rather, Swank’s doctors were focused on saving her ovary to prevent the risk of debilitating medical conditions, including cancer, loss of estrogen production, premature menopause, osteoporosis, depression, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol in the blood), coronary artery disease, arthritis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic pain, fatigue, chest pain, heart palpitations, muscle spasms, insomnia, recurrent urinary tract and yeast infections, and even early death.”<br />

Please note, accepting employment or rendering services on The Curse of the Clown Motel may be considered a violation of Global Rule One. Violating this order may result in disciplinary action in accordance with the SAG-AFTRA Constitution.”</p>

<p>The union’s Global Rule One, which requires members to work only for signatory companies, states: “No member shall render any services or make an agreement to perform services for any employer who has not executed a basic minimum agreement with the union, which is in full force and effect, in any jurisdiction in which there is a SAG-AFTRA national collective bargaining agreement in place.”</p>

<p>The statement from SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris further states: “Preventing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a> from ever rejoining SAG-AFTRA is more than a symbolic step. It is a resounding statement that threatening or inciting harm against fellow members will not be tolerated. An attack against one is an attack against all.”</p>

<p>A disciplinary action against Trump had been initialised by SAG-AFTRA in mid-January following the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. However, before the union could officially expel him, Trump resigned his membership, saying that the union had “done nothing” for him.</p>

<p>Trump had been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1989 and has appeared in film and television productions such as ‘Home Alone 2,’ ‘The Nanny’ and ‘Sex and the City.’</p>

The charges allege that the former President of the United States incited insurrection against the U.S. government at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and urged and incited anti-journalist animus that resulted in injuries and harm to SAG-AFTRA member journalists; and</p>

<p>WHEREAS, on or about January 19, 2021, the National Board conducted a probable cause determination in which it found that there was sufficient basis for such charges to proceed to a disciplinary hearing; and</p>

<p>WHEREAS, the Disciplinary Committee had set a hearing to be conducted on February 5, 2021, to hear evidence on the charges, and gave proper and sufficient notice to Trump of the hearing; and</p>

<p>WHEREAS, on February 4, 2021, on the eve of the hearing, Trump submitted a letter of resignation from his membership in SAG-AFTRA to President Carteris; and</p>

<p>WHEREAS, by resigning from SAG-AFTRA, Trump voluntarily relinquished any membership rights he may have had under SAG-AFTRA’s governing documents as well as under federal law; and</p>

<p>WHEREAS, the evidence of Mr. Trump’s misconduct and actions antagonistic to the interests of the union and its members is widely known and has been reported by many media sources; and</p>

<p>WHEREAS, pursuant to Article III(A)(2) of the Constitution, “The National Board has discretion to deny membership to any applicant if, in its judgment, his or her admission to membership would not be in the best interests of the Union;”</p>
