"Abortions are sometimes needed out of an act of an emergency, out of an act of saving a woman's life. Or hell — honestly it shouldn't even get to the point where you're having to save a woman's life," said the 26-year-old Elizabeth Weller who had to bear this nightmare.

Weller was 18 weeks along in a pregnancy, she really wanted when her water broke prematurely. She didn't have enough amniotic fluid to help sustain the foetus' life. She was informed that the foetus would probably die or struggle in agonising ways for its survival.&nbsp;

However, the foetus’s heart was still beating. The medical staff at the hospital in the Houston region felt that Weller wasn't in enough danger to risk breaking Texas' six-week abortion ban despite symptoms of chorioamnionitis, which can result in a lethal infection.&nbsp;

Officials at the hospital advised her to choose between going home and waiting for her foetus to die inside her or waiting at the hospital until she became ill enough to qualify as a "medical emergency," as allowed by Texas law.

The horrifying incident begs the question: How many similar cases have taken place since the nationwide ruling took effect? How many delays caused by legal restrictions resulted in delays that were life-threatening and imprisoned families in a limbo of helplessness and grief?

“There has been a great deal of shock at the local level from people who, I think, just didn’t believe Roe would fall or that we could end up in this situation,” said Emily Wales, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Plains, told The Guardian when asked about the situation.

Samuel Alito, a conservative judge of US Supreme Court made the remarks during an unannounced speech in Rome at Notre Dame law school. He spoke at conference held around the theme of religious liberty. These were Alito's first public remarks since overturning of Roe Vs Wade. The law school published video of his speech on Youtube on Thursday (July 28)

“I had the honour this term of writing I think the only supreme court decision in the history of that institution that has been lambasted by a whole string of foreign leaders who felt perfectly fine commenting on American law,” Alito said.

He said that UK PM Boris Johnson "paid the price" after his remark on the court decision. He was referring to UK PM's resignation which was due to opposition from within his own party.

“But what really wounded me - what really wounded me - was when the Duke of Sussex (Prince Harry) addressed the United Nations and seemed to compare the decision whose name may not be spoken with the Russian attack on Ukraine,”

Just a few days ago, Prince Harry addressed United Nations and expressed his displeasure at "the rolling back of constitutional rights here in the United States”.

The verdict also drew criticism from Canadian President Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The US Supreme Court currently has 6-3 majority of conservative judges.

Now seventeen Attorney Generals want to manipulate how internet search answers these women's queries regarding Abortion centres. In the letter,&nbsp; top&nbsp;Republicans have called out Google's "monopoly power in the markets for search services" and have pushed for the inclusion of crisis pregnancy clinics that actually oppose abortion in search results for "abortion."

As per Jezebel, "crisis pregnancy centres are faith-based organizations that prey on people struggling with unwanted pregnancies. They advertise heavily on Google and social media and aggressively try to dissuade people from having abortions by pushing dangerous disinformation."

YouTube is now joining the list and taking steps to deal with the repercussions of the US Supreme Court’s verdict. On Thursday, the platform said that it will start removing videos containing false or unsafe claims about the abortion procedure.&nbsp;

Talking to AFP, YouTube said, “Starting today and ramping up over the next few weeks, we will remove content that provides instructions for unsafe abortion methods or promotes false claims about abortion safety under our medical misinformation policies.”

In what is being described as a judgement that has pushed America nearly 50 years back, the Supreme Court of the US (SCOTUS) has overturned the landmark Roe vs Wade judgement of 1973 that made abortions for women a constitutional right in the US last month. This development has ramifications across all states in the US as it will not be possible for women to access abortion clinics legally after 15 weeks. More than half of the states are set to bring in laws that will ban abortion with immediate effect, with nine states having already worked them out.&nbsp;

Women in the US staged several protests everywhere, from Atlanta to New York. The ruling has made many women rethink their freedom and equality in society, as they reel under the pressure to safeguard their dignity and have autonomy in their decisions.&nbsp;

Women have been tied back for centuries by the shackles of patriarchy and misogyny. It’s interesting to note that the US boasts about development and considers itself the custodian of human rights. Still, the SCOTUS deems it fit to scrap a landmark judgment granting women autonomy over their bodies and lives.&nbsp;

US becomes an outlier

The scrapping of the judgement not only makes the US an outlier among developed nations but will also propel developing nations to use this ruling as a precedent to cage women where life is already difficult for them.

Even though developing countries such as India have progressive abortion laws, it is challenging for women to access safe abortions and health care, especially in rural India. The lack of awareness and education about the rules amongst women makes it a dicey situation for them.&nbsp;However, Indian laws guarantee abortion to women in case of threat to the woman’s life, risk of the fetus bearing abnormalities, or in case of rape.&nbsp;

The truth is that women have been let down everywhere in the world. Be it the freedom to choose their career path or their bodily autonomy. A country like the US should redefine and refine its boundaries on the issue, as it will give many in positions of power the right to snatch away women’s freedom and status as equal citizens worldwide.

Forced birth in a country where gun violence is the number one cause of death among children and teenagers." And to conclude: `Abort the Supreme Court`." 
 
Shortly after news of Roe`s reversal broke on June 24, Rage announced that USD 475,000 in ticket sales for the Alpine show, as well as two shows at Chicago`s United Center, would go to reproductive rights organisations in Wisconsin and Illinois. 
 
During their hour-and-a-half set, Rage played the best of their discography and treated fans to a cover of Bruce Springsteen`s "The Ghost of Tom Joad" from his 2000 covers album Renegades. It`s been 23 years since Rage released original music. The group had not performed together since 2011.

According to a report by The Guardian, Bernard Kim, who is the chief executive of the company said in a statement that the company&nbsp;has stopped funding the Republican Attorneys General Association after it was revealed that the company had made a $137,000 donation to the group.

In the weeks since the SCOTUS ruling, multiple accounts of such struggles have come to light, reports AFP. One medicine that perhaps no one thought would be affected was arthritis medicine. However, recent reports have brought to light an overlooked impact of the ruling and the resulting state-level abortion bans or harsh restrictions.

A report by AFP narrates the experience of a nurse from Alabama, Melissa, who was told that the regular drug prescription for her rheumatoid arthritis was "on hold" pending a check that she wasn't going to use it to induce an abortion.

A second woman, a 20-year-old Ohio university student, told AFP that she had been prescribed methotrexate since 2020 to treat her lupus.&nbsp;She reported that a national chain of pharmacies informed her that they were "no longer accepting prescriptions for methotrexate unless it was for the FDA-approved use of (treating) breast cancer, or the patient was not presumably fertile."

National pharmacy giants CVS and Walmart said in statements to AFP that they were making efforts to follow new state laws in light of the high court's decision to abolish the constitutional right to an abortion.

In order to ensure that patients have rapid and simple access to pharmaceuticals, CVS said: "We encourage providers to include their diagnosis on the prescriptions they write."

An unlikely 'side-effect' of abortion ban, women can't buy arthritis medicine

The state of Florida in the United States restored the ban on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy after a judge temporarily stopped the state law. The “trigger law” was passed in the aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade but Judge John C Cooper of an appellate court in Florida’s capital of Tallahassee called the law “unconstitutional”. However, the state won an appeal on Tuesday and that meant that the measures are once again valid in Florida with immediate effect.

While Florida and Kentucky had similar judgements, it seems that the appeals will allow the fast application of the trigger laws. Earlier, the judgement by Judge Cooper faced a lot of criticism as the Republican lawmakers of the state were not happy in the delay when it comes to their application.

The film follows Janice, the mother of 17-year-old Eric, who shot and killed three of his classmates.&nbsp;

As Janice faces a meeting with the mothers of the other boys and a long-delayed visit to her son in prison, the story becomes not about the violence but about what we choose to think and do in order to survive trauma.&nbsp;

Wade, there are reports of potentially dangerous abortion-related information running on the platform. Following the Roe v. Wade ruling last Friday, that would make abortion illegal in America, prompting protests by women and reproductive rights advocates across the country, people seem to have taken the matter into their own hands.&nbsp;

A text that flashes on the social media platform reads: "If you’re a female in America worried about your future, just know there is an herb for every'situation'," followed by a list of herbs including pennyroyal, blue cohosh, and mugwort. A new wave of discussion is currently going on on TikTok that focuses on herbs that can cause abortions. After the ruling, people on TikTok are offering grassroots solutions to those who seek abortion facilities.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, medical professionals are concerned about this increasing trend of TikTok creators&nbsp;promoting these herbal abortifacients. These herbs can also have catastrophic effects on a woman’s health. Mary Jane Minkin, MD, a gynaecologist and clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the Yale University School of Medicine, on knowing about the trends said, "I’m horrified. They’re going to kill people. She also stated that performing abortions at home can turn fatal and result in sepsis or death. "It’s terrifying because 49 years ago, that’s how women died," she said.&nbsp;

One of the most commonly mentioned abortifacients on TikTok is a minty, sweet-smelling plant called pennyroyal, which is also used in essential oils and insect repellents, reported the Rolling Stone. However, according to Josh Trebach, a medical toxicologist and emergency medicine physician in Lowa City, the herb contains pulegone, which gets metabolised in the body and produces toxins that might result in liver necrosis, causing indigestion-related side effects like nausea, vomiting, and pain in the abdomen as well as seizures, comas, liver failure, and even death.&nbsp;

Another herb cited on TikTok is called Blue Cohosh, which contains a compound called methylcytosine. If used in large doses, it can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, profuse drooling, heart rhythms, muscle weakness, seizures, coma, and even death.

Trebach said, "People may, at the end of the day, perceive these to be potential solutions because they have no other options. As a toxicologist that really scares me." He further added that due to a lack of research on these herbs, even medical experts don’t know whether these herbs work well to cause abortions. "But we do know it can get people really, really sick," he stated.&nbsp;

On TikTok, there is an abundance of misinformation about these dangerous herbal abortifacients. One of the hashtags, # pennyroyaltea, has received approximately 1.1 million views and advocates the use of an abortifacient. Another hashtag for mugwort has over 157 million views. With that hashtag, the most popular video has more than 350,000 views and says, "This is caution not to drink mugwort tea while pregnant because it may simulate your menstrual cycle resulting in losing [sic] the fetus. Once again, please don’t do this." Despite the fact that the video's caption reads, "Life hack # roevwade # womensrights."

Trabach noted that he came across posts relating to herbal abortifacients such as pennyroyal and mugwort last month, shortly after the news about the impending Roe v. Wade decision was leaked. Searches for "pennyroyal," "blue cohosh", and "mugwort" have shot up in the past month. As per recent Google Trends data, searches for "pennyroyal abortion" have increased by 40 per cent, and searches for "blue cohosh pregnancy" grew by 70 percent over the past week.&nbsp;

Though the rise in herbal abortifacients advocacy has emerged because of the rollback of the abortion rights law, they have remained available in the underground market, through herbalists and midwives, leading to those who seek such options for abortion.&nbsp;

Women in the US turn to TikTok's viral herbal abortion remedies as a desperate measure

Meta-owned Facebook and Instagram are reportedly blocking posts offering abortion pills for women following the US Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade judgemenet, which declared access to abortion a constitutional right.

According to AP news agency, several Instagram accounts of abortion rights advocacy groups found their posts or stories hidden with a warning that described these posts as “sensitive content.”

Instagram said it was working to fix the problem Tuesday, describing it as a “bug.”

As soon as the Supreme Court ruling was made public, several memes and status updates exploded on social media platforms explaining to them how women could legally obtain abortion pills. Some even offered to mail the prescriptions to women living in states that now ban the procedure.

According to an analysis by the media intelligence firm Zignal Labs, general mentions of abortion pills, as well as posts mentioning specific versions such as mifepristone and misoprostol, suddenly spiked on Friday morning across Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and TV broadcasts.

To check if the posts were actually being removed, an AP reporter ran a test on Facebook, offering to mail abortion pills in the post. It was removed within a minute. Another test by a Verge reporter yielded similar results, with a post offering abortion pills being flagged within two minutes.

However, other posts that offered “a gun” or “weed” were not flagged or removed, the AP reported.

“In future cases, we should reconsider all of this court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell,” Thomas wrote in his concurring opinion.

In Lawrence v Texas in 2003, the states could not criminalise sodomy while in Griswold v Connecticut in 1965, the Supreme Court ruled that a married couple can exercise their right to use contraception without any government interference. In 2005, Obergefell v Hodges established the right for same-sex couples to marry. These are mainly the cases mentioned by Justice Thomas in his notes.

While Justice Samuel Alito said that the decision to reverse Roe v Wade will not have any impact on other major precent cases, it was dismissed by the three liberal judges in the court.

“Either the mass of the majority’s opinion is hypocrisy or additional constitutional rights are under threat,” the liberal justices wrote according to The Guardian. “It is one or the other.”
