In an interview with Sportstar after end of Day 1's play, Shaw spoke at length about the challenges of managing expectations and handling criticism. He said, "I have realised that whenever you score runs, you are on top of the world. But when you don't score then people will come after you. Expectations kaafi rehte hai [there are quite a lot of expectations] when you score regularly, so when you suddenly get out early in three or four innings, people start thinking 'yaar, yeh hai woh hai [people start questioning you].' Only you know whether you are following the process, or whether you are being disciplined more than before, are you sleeping on time, eating well before a game. All those things matter. I am just trying to follow those things and I am trying to spend time alone as much as possible. I cut out the outside noise - be it on social media or in other platforms."

Shaw further asserted, "I try to avoid those things or at times, just ask my manager to handle social-media activities. I have brand commitments, and that's why it is not possible to stay away from social media, and thus, you eventually end up seeing what's being written or spoken about. But I am still trying to cut out the noise as much as possible. People are talking about you and then will continue doing the same even after 10 years, so you should not think too much about it, because if you start reading too much between the lines, you will be affecting yourself."

With some a record-breaking knock, Shaw has raised his stocks and will certainly be under the radar of the BCCI selectors when they meet to announce the white-ball squads for the upcoming home series versus New Zealand. Despite his heroics in the domestic circuit, he has been overlooked for national duties. Shaw has only played four Tests, six ODIs and a solitary T20I since his international debut in late 2018.

Ranji Trophy 2022: Arjun Tendulkar hits 100 on debut, emulates dad Sachin's feat, check details

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun is all set to leave Mumbai and in all likelihood will ply his trade for south-western neighbours Goa in the next domestic season. The 22-year-old left-arm pacer, who has also been a part of IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, have played two games for Mumbai, during the 2020-21 edition of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Haryana and Puducherry respectively.

It has been learnt that Tendulkar junior has already applied for No Objection Certificate (NoC) from his home association MCA.

"Getting maximum game time on the ground is important for Arjun at this juncture of his career. We believe that the shift will improve the probability of Arjun featuring in more competitive matches. He is embarking on a new phase of his cricketing career," SRT Sports Management said in a statement.

Tendulkar has played two 'Tests' for the India U-19 against Sri Lanka, three summers back and has featured in the Mumbai probables for the white ball leg of the domestic season even this time.

In fact, it was the pressure applied by Yadav which helped nippy seamer Anubhav Agarwal (19-3-56-2) and tall off-spinner Saransh Jain (17-2-31-2) to share the bulk of the spoils, with some intelligent execution of plans.

Mumbai did enjoy the advantage during the first hour after Shaw opted to bat and, along with Jaiswal, took on the MP attack. The strategy to start with Kartikeya's slow left-arm orthodox seemed to have backfired when Jaiswal took him on and lofted him over long-on for a six.

Shaw followed suit and hit Kartikeya over long-off for a six as they added 87 for the first wicket. But while Jaiswal, with his drives and upper cuts, looked to continue from where he left in the semi-final, Shaw, despite his seven fours (at least three of them behind square) looked edgy.

Both the seamers, Anubhav and Gaurav, got some movement in the air with a nice cloud cover helping their cause. They also hit the perfect length with movement off the pitch in both directions, into and away from the batter. Both look run-of-the-mill medium pacers but are deceptively quicker than they actually look.

In fact, the best over of the first day was the 12th of the Mumbai innings when Gaurav first cut Shaw into half with a massive in-cutter and then bowled the outgoing deliveries, beating the bat as many as five times in six balls. 
By the end of the over, he was in his hunches.

Jaiswal, at the other end, scored his first 30 runs in 52 balls, but then, gauging the two-paced nature of the pitch, started playing more cautiously. His next 48 runs came in another 111 deliveries. The first breakthrough came minutes before lunch break when Anubhav, who was bowling closer to the stumps, decided to move slightly wide and fired in a couple of deliveries with the angle.

While Shaw managed to defend one, the second delivery saw him play across the line and the stumps rattled. 
Arman Jaffer (26 off 56 balls) looked solid till he tried a forward-defensive jab off Kartikeya, without factoring in the extra bounce, and the ball took an inside edge off his bat and Yash Dubey, at short mid-wicket, completed a diving catch.

The pitch in the second session slowed down considerably and Suved Parkar (18) paid the price when a delivery from Saransh stopped on him and the leading edge off closed bat face just lobbed up for the easiest of catches for rival captain Aditya Shrivastava.

The dismissal that was most well-planned was that of Jaiswal, who was closing in on a fourth hundred of the season.

Wriddhiman Saha has not had the best of times, especially off the field this year. While his&nbsp;spat with senior and known journalist Boria Majumdar was much highlighted, his fallout with the Bengal team has also made the news. Now, the veteran keeper-batter has confirmed that he is quitting the Bengal Ranji team and will soon play from some other state.

Saha, who has represented Bengal for 15 years, was named in the team squad for the knockouts, however, the 37-year-old had opted out and his decision irked some Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officials. Saha has now decided to quit the Bengal team following the comments made by CAB Secretary on his withdrawal.

"For me, too, it is a very sad feeling that I have to go through something like this after playing for Bengal for so long. It is disappointing that people make such comments and question your integrity. As a player, I had never faced such a thing in the past, but now that it has happened, even I need to (move on),” said Saha to&nbsp;Sportstar.

In pursuit of giving their young batters some "practice" for the quarterfinal which is slated about three months from now, the Saurabh Tiwary-led side ended up scoring a match aggregate of 1297 runs.

Jharkhand, who had batted first in the match, had already sealed their last-eight berth after taking a massive 591-run first-innings lead but did not enforce a follow-on against the northeastern side, who were all out for 289 in their first innings.

Resuming the fifth and final day on 132/2 in their second innings, with an overall lead of 723 runs, Jharkhand called off the proceedings much to the delight of Nagaland bowlers midway into the second session.

Just when their first innings double-centurion Kumar Kushagra got out for 89 (104 balls; 9x4, 3x6) in the third ball of the 91st over, both the teams shook hands.

Jharkhand made 417/6 in their second essay, an overall lead of 1008 -- the highest in the history of first-class cricket.

The match witnessed three centuries and one double ton from Jharkhand batters and on the final day, overnight batter Anukul Roy followed up his first-innings 59 with a brisk 159 (164b; 14x4, 7x6). This was his second first-class hundred.

The Plate group toppers Nagaland had to toil hard, remaining on the field for most part of the five-day game and ended up bowling more than 294 overs.

Justifying his side's decision, skipper Tiwary had said on Tuesday that they wanted to give their young batters some practice as first-innings lead was enough to book a quarterfinal berth for them.

Jharkhand thus joined the seven Elite group toppers -- Bengal, Mumbai, Karnataka, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand -- who have already qualified for the quarterfinals.

The opening round clash between defending champions Saurashtra and Mumbai in Ahmedabad will be a much anticipated one with Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane having been named in their respective teams.

Both the seasoned batters are in dire need of big runs and a Ranji Trophy hundred could well help them get their Test careers back on track.

RT-PCR tests will be conducted on day two and day five, leaving teams two days for practice on February 15 and 16.

India's domestic cricket schedule was thrown into chaos on Tuesday when the BCCI decided to postpone major tournaments including Ranji Trophy and the Col CK Naidu Trophy due to a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.

"The BCCI will continue to assess the situation and take a call on the start of the tournaments accordingly," Shah added.

The BCCI had formed six separate bio-bubbles in six different cities with multiple grounds -- Ahmedabad, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata.

In fact, Mumbai team had arrived in Kolkata and then their out of favour India all-rounder Shivam Dube tested positive and had to be isolated.
