<p>According to the National Centre for Seismology, the magnitude of the earthquake was 3.1 and the jolts reportedly occurred at around 4:08 pm.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) has said that magnitude of the earthquake was 6.5 and occurred at a depth of 10 km.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Canada’s 62 diplomats were working in its High Commission in India before the evacuation.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The CTV report stated that the majority of its diplomatic staff have been evacuated from India and shifted to either Singapore or Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). However, there was no official word on the evacuation of the diplomats from New Delhi.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The media report came days after Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly claimed that the government was diplomatically engaged with India over the topic of staff reduction.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Meanwhile, India’s External Affairs Ministry on Thursday (Oct 5) said that they have sought a parity in diplomatic presence.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">"On discussions on parity, given the much higher presence of diplomats or diplomatic presence here and their interference in our internal matters, we have sought parity in our respective diplomatic presence," said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi,&nbsp;while speaking to media persons in response to a question over the issue.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">He further stated that discussions were ongoing to achieve parity. "Given that Canadian diplomatic presence is higher, we would assume that there would be a reduction," he stated.</p>

<p>India's law enforcement agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a search at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh as part of a money laundering investigation connected to the controversial Delhi liquor policy case.</p>

<p>ED officials arrived at the Delhi home of the Rajya Sabha MP early morning on Wednesday (Oct 4).&nbsp;The case revolves around the excise policy of the Delhi government in 2021, which was subsequently revoked. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also faced nearly nine hours of questioning in April as part of the investigation.</p>

<p>In February, former deputy chief minister of the AAP government in Delhi, Manish Sisodia, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the same case but he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Connections with businessman Dinesh Arora</strong></h2>

<p>Businessman Dinesh Arora, an approver in the case, alleged that Sanjay Singh introduced him to Manish Sisodia. The former Delhi deputy CM was the excise minister at the time.</p>

<p>Singh has already responded to the allegations.&nbsp;Earlier in May, he wrote a letter to Finance Secretary TV Somanathan, claiming that the ED director and assistant director had wrongly linked his name to the alleged liquor scam, damaging his public image and reputation.</p>

<p>According to ED sources cited by ANI news agency, Sanjay Singh's name appeared four times in the ED's charge sheet, with one wrong reference where his name was mentioned instead of Rahul Singh, who was the then excise commissioner.</p>

<p>Importantly, Singh was never named as an accused by the ED, which has filed three charge sheets in the case. He was neither summoned nor had his statement recorded in connection with the case, despite references to him in the chargesheets.</p>

<h2><strong>Allegations of corruption in liquor policy</strong></h2>

<p>The CBI alleged&nbsp;that liquor companies were involved in shaping the excise policy, which would have resulted in a 12 per cent&nbsp;profit for these firms. The agency claims that a liquor lobby, referred to as the "South Group," paid kickbacks in this matter.</p>

<p>In what could be considered the largest reported robbery in India's capital, an unidentified gang of at least three people&nbsp;carried out a heist at a jewellery store located in the Bhogal area of southeast Delhi, taking off with approximately Rs 25 crore ($3 million)&nbsp;worth of valuables.</p>

<p>Resembling a scene from a Bollywood movie, the thieves gained entry to the showroom via the rooftop of the four-storey building.</p>

<p>To ensure that they left no evidence behind, they dismantled the CCTV cameras and accessed the terrace of the building by jumping the roofs of adjacent buildings.</p>

Scheduled Castes (SCs) accounted for slightly more than 19 per cent and Scheduled Tribes (STs) 1.68 per cent. The general category formed 15.52 per cent of Bihar's population.</p>

<h2><strong>Yadavs- The biggest sub-group</strong></h2>

<p>The report indicated that the Yadav community is the largest sub-group in the state with a 14.27 per cent share of the total OBC community. Notably, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav also belongs to this community.</p>

<p>It is highly likely that the calls to increase quotas for OBCs will grow louder ahead of the general elections of 2024.</p>

<p>Currently, the quota for OBCs is capped at 27 per cent.</p>

<h2><strong>CM Nitish Kumar hails the move</strong></h2>

<p>Soon after the survey was released, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took to X to hail the move on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.</p>

<p>"Soon a meeting of the nine parties in the Bihar Assembly (including the Deputy Chief Minister's Rashtriya Janata Dal and allies-turned-fierce rivals BJP) will be called regarding caste-based census in Bihar. They will be informed about the results..." Nitish Kumar said.</p>

There were around 35 girls and all are safe.” It seems the fire started from a meter board installed near the staircase and spread to the upper floors, he said.</p>

<p>He said the building has ground floor and three more storeys.</p>

<p>It has only one staircase and a kitchen at the terrace, he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Local reports said that the 26-year-old belonged to a minority community and&nbsp;the authorities are assuring strict action in the matter. Deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said that the victim was specially-abled.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A video of the incident, which took place in Delhi's Sundar Nagari area, has gone viral on social media platforms. The footage shows the man, identified as Muhammed Isaar, appealing to the crowd for help. He can be seen in pain, while people attacked him over suspicion of theft.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As quoted in a local report, one police officer said Isaar's family has alleged that he was beaten to death on suspicion of stealing prasad from a stall.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Incidents of abuse, physical attacks and killings of disabled people are being reported at regular intervals. However, this has acquired a much more dangerous dimension with disabled people being targeted for their religious identity," he added.&nbsp;</p>
