<p>Originally from Tarn Taran in Punjab, Lakhbir Singh Landa is now reportedly residing in Alberta, Canada, having fled there in 2017, as per media reports.</p>

<p>Along with the national capital, many cities of northern India woke up to foggy weather with drastically reduced visibility.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In Patiala, Lucknow and Prayagraj, the visibility dropped to 25 metres while in Amritsar there remained zero visibility.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The average air quality declined to 381 and fell in the category of "very poor" on the Air Quality Index.&nbsp;The minimum temperature in the national capital fell to 7 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature stood at 24 degrees Celsius.</p>

<p>As per the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) air bulletin, 441 AQI was recorded at Anand Vihar, while AQI was 327 in Lodhi Road in central Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the IGI airport, air quality remained at 368. Meanwhile, an AQI of 336 and 363 was recorded by Ghaziabad and Noida, respectively. As per the forecast, the air quality is likely to deteriorate further in the next week.</p>

<p>Taking about the condition in India's capital New Delhi, Dr Singh said, "The high level of pollution affects everyone, but it's particularly tough on those with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and kids. However, individuals with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and children are especially vulnerable to its adverse effects."&nbsp;</p>

<p>In New Delhi, the recent levels of pollution have reached alarming heights, raising serious concerns for the well-being of the residents. As winter descends upon the region, the situation becomes worse. The pollution is caused&nbsp;by a combination of factors, including stubble burning, atmospheric changes, and more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Airborne particles or pollutants found in haze, smoke, and airborne dust, pose serious air quality issues. And while air quality affects everyone, to some, the effects are far more adverse than others.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A report published by the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 4, 2023, revealed that asthma affected an estimated 262 million people in 2019 and caused 455,000 deaths. It stated that most asthma-related deaths occur in low- and lower-middle-income countries, where under-diagnosis and under-treatment is a challenge.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Dr Arunesh Kumar, Senior Consultant and Head, of Respiratory Medicine, Paras Health, Gurugram</strong>, told WION that when a person inhales these dangerous particles and compounds, it can cause or worsen pre-existing respiratory illness.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dr Kumar said, "The hazardous elements of air pollution are especially dangerous for respiratory conditions such as interstitial lung disease, asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). For those with respiratory illness, breathing becomes more difficult as a result of the inflammation and irritation caused in the airways."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gaseous pollutants&nbsp;can aggravate respiratory symptoms, including dyspnoea and coughing. He said, "Long-term exposure to these gases can damage the airways, increasing the risk of respiratory infections in people."&nbsp;</p>

As winter descends upon the region, the situation becomes worse. The pollution is caused by a combination of factors, including stubble burning, atmospheric changes, and more. Airborne particles or pollutants found in haze, smoke, and airborne dust, pose serious air quality issues. And while air quality affects everyone, to some, the effects are far more adverse than others. A report published by the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 4, 2023, revealed that asthma affected an estimated 262 million people in 2019 and caused 455,000 deaths. It stated that most asthma-related deaths occur in low- and lower-middle-income countries, where under-diagnosis and under-treatment is a challenge. For those with respiratory illness, breathing becomes more difficult as a result of the inflammation and irritation caused in the airways." Gaseous pollutants can aggravate respiratory symptoms, including dyspnoea and coughing. The company's Q2 FY24 revenues showed a sharp contrast in performance, falling from&nbsp;836 crore rupees ($100 million) in the same quarter the previous year to a meagre&nbsp;33 crore rupees ($39 million).&nbsp;</p>

<p>SBI is aggressively using the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal as legal channels to handle the growing debts. The bank wants to get back a sizable amount of its unpaid debt to PC Jeweller, or 1,267 crore rupees ($152 million).&nbsp;</p>

<p>PC Jeweller has taken strong measures in reaction to the financial crisis, closing seventeen stores total—thirteen of which are owned and three of which are franchises. This prompted officials to hold a review meeting to address the situation and strategise accordingly.&nbsp;The air quality was in the 'very poor' category for about a week until Thursday (Nov 23).</p>

<p>Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai gave details of inputs from scientists about the cause of Delhi's worsening air quality. After the meeting, he said that vehicle pollution and biomass burning are contributing to increased pollution.&nbsp;</p>

While saying that the stubble-burning incidents are "very few" now, he pointed out that the level of pollution is still rising.&nbsp;</p>

To control vehicle pollution, we issued the rules of GRAP 3... To control biomass burning, we have directed the related organisations to monitor this especially. Biomass burning will increase as the winter increases... Third, we also discussed the future situation."</p>

<p>Speaking of the projections in the air quality for the next two days, the minister said that "it is expected that the situation will remain the same. "It is possible after November 27 that there will be light rain and the speed of the wind will increase..." the minister added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>'Very poor' air quality in neighbouring areas</strong></h2>

<p>Delhi continues to breathe toxic air and the AQI in areas like Anand Vihar, RK Puram, and Alipur were recorded at 418, 424 and 434, respectively. With this, the air quality in the neighbouring areas stands in the 'very poor' category.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The move comes after nearly a two-month pause, triggered by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s bombshell allegations against the Government of India (GOI) regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June on Canadian soil.</p>

<p>Trudeau alleged that “agents” of the GOI were involved in Nijjar’s murder, something India strongly denies.</p>

<p>This resulted in the downgrading&nbsp;of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Both India and Canada also exchanged travel advisories. India advised its citizens in Canada, and those contemplating travelling, to exercise "utmost caution" in view of "politically-condoned" hate crimes.</p>
