He is a talented engineer raised in a small town who has risen up the ranks of the company due to his work and become a blue-eyed boy of the owner. It also helps that he is in a relationship with the owner's daughter( Akansha Ranjan Kapoor). Life seems perfect for him until Monica(Huma Qureshi) the secretary of the owner claims she is pregnant with Jayant's child. The two have been having a torrid affair on the side.<br />

Blackmail, revelations of illicit romances, and a murder later, Jayant finds himself in a sticky wicket. He has much to lose and it doesn't help that ACP Naidu (Radhika Apte) is suspicious of his every move.<br />

Written by Yogesh Chandekar, the screenplay is taught and full of twists and keeps you hooked. It helps that quirk is high and you find yourself smiling at the multiple references that Bala gives to pop culture and even Sriram Raghavan. <p>For someone who grew up reading Archies Comics, director Zoya Akhtar on Monday said it is a "pleasure and honour" for her to bring the Indian adaptation of the iconic comic to life.<br />

The filmmaker, known for movies such as 'Luck by Chance', 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' and 'Gully Boy', is directing Netflix's live-action musical film 'The Archies' based on the characters of the popular American comics.</p>

<p>"It's such a pleasure and an absolute honour to be asked to make the Indian adaptation for this very iconic comic. It's a huge part of my childhood. I've grown up reading it.</p>

<p>"My good friend Sharad mentioned to me that he had spoken to you (Akhtar) about doing an Archie's movie and when he mentioned that it was you who is interested, I immediately said, 'Oh my God, we have to try to make this happen.'<br />

"And then, of course, the confluence of you and being with the best streaming company in the world and Netflix seemed like a no-brainer for the Archies."<br />

Music is a big part of the Archies heritage throughout the decades, he added.<br />

"I should mention that the film is set in the 1960s. There's a loss of friendship and love and conflict and community and the music. Music is such a big part of Archies heritage throughout the decades.<br />

"The '60s for Archie, were also such an important part as we transitioned from what Archie was to where Archie kind of is now. The '60s were the gateway between the old Archie and the new Archie," added Goldwater.<br />

In debutant director Jasmeet K Reen's 'Darlings', a twisted mother-daughter duo not only is the biggest cheerleaders for each other but also each other's critics. They are both stuck in a complex relationship involving men, yet never are projected as vulnerable. Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah play spirited women- who despite bad marriages are never willing to give up on life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Set in bustling Mumbai, the story of Shamzi(Shah) and Badru (Bhatt) could be any of our stories. It is the story of a protective single mother, always wanting to look out for her daughter, it is about a woman desperately trying to make her marriage work, it is about a man who is not too fond of his mother-in-law, a man who is deeply frustrated at work and who takes it out on his wife every night. Such stories exist in every bylane of India, every nook and corner, in high-rises and shanties, irrespective of class. So what makes 'Darlings' hatke? <p>Alia Bhatt and Vijay Verma play a young couple Badru and Hamza. They have had a love marriage but after three years, the marriage has turned sour to a great extent. She is naive and wants a future with him while he is a raging alcoholic who can't keep his anger in check and hits his wife every other night. Living across them is Badru's mother Shamzi who has single-handedly raised Badru and cannot see her daughter suffer daily. She advises Badru to leave him every day but the daughter is hopeful to change her circumstance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Situations worsen when Zulfi (Roshan Mathew) - the lovelorn, friendly neighbour goes and files a police complaint against Hamza accusing him of domestic violence. Does the complaint finally put an end to Hamza's beating? Do the couple kiss and make up or do Shamzi and Badru finally let the police put him behind bars forms the rest of the story.</p>

<p><strong>The writing of 'Darlings' stands out</strong></p>

<p>The humour in 'Darlings' is not in your face. Instead, it’s in the little moments. It is subtle and makes you smirk at the clever writing but never laugh out loud. Written by Parveen Sheikh and co-written by Reen, the film's detailing, the dialect of the actors, and the character portrayals are so well done that it keeps you hooked throughout its 1 hour 45 minutes run time. The scenes are so engaging and well written. especially, the scene at the police station where the Inspector (Vijay Maurya) and Shamsi and Badru engage a hilarious conversation fuelled by misinterpretations. It’s the kind of scene that you expect to see in Anurag Kashyap's film where characters are middle in trivial banters for a long time till they find the core point.</p>

<p><strong>The performances of the cast&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Scenes of Bhatt and Shah, in fact, are all very special. Both gifted actors- complement each other- never overstepping each other’s acting space and emoting majorly through expressions and eyes. It is truly a delight to watch the two gifted actresses attempt a genre like this. The men, Vijay Verma and Roshan Mathew too are equally good in their parts. Verma who shined in his limited screen time in films like 'Gully Boy' and 'Pink' gets a complex role to play in 'Darlings'. His Hamza is no ordinary man, a twisted, dark man who vents out his frustration at the workplace through violence at home, he should ideally be the most hated character in the film. Yet, Verma brings in his charm to the character and plays evil with so much style that you end up enjoying his antics- even though you know he is wrong. Mathew on the other hand plays a strikingly opposite character to Hamza. A polite, nice, aspiring writer Zulfi yearns for Badru but is unable to say it out loud. Instead, he willingly gives the mother-daughter company as they plot a devilish plan against Hamza.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Not just casting, but the film's music perfectly blends in with the story.’ Dil La Ilaaj’ and the title song especially stand out</p>

<p>While ‘Darlings’ tells an important story, it also loses its humour slightly in the second half. I would have hoped that the film was darker and more twisted, but instead, it focuses more on getting closure for its lead protagonist.&nbsp;</p>

Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah play spirited women- who despite bad marriages are never willing to give up on life. Set in bustling Mumbai, the story of Shamzi(Shah) and Badru (Bhatt) could be any of our stories. It is the story of a protective single mother, always wanting to look out for her daughter, it is about a woman desperately trying to make her marriage work, it is about a man who is not too fond of his mother-in-law, a man who is deeply frustrated at work and who takes it out on his wife every night. Such stories exist in every bylane of India, every nook and corner, in high-rises and shanties, irrespective of class. So what makes 'Darlings' hatke? First, the courage to tell the story with such nonchalance and then to spin it around with a dash of humour. What is the story of 'Darlings' Alia Bhatt and Vijay Verma play a young couple Badru and Hamza. They have had a love marriage but after three years, the marriage has turned sour to a great extent. She is naive and wants a future with him while he is a raging alcoholic who can't keep his anger in check and hits his wife every other night. Living across them is Badru's mother Shamzi who has single-handedly raised Badru and cannot see her daughter suffer daily. She advises Badru to leave him every day but the daughter is hopeful to change her circumstance. Situations worsen when Zulfi (Roshan Mathew) - the lovelorn, friendly neighbour goes and files a police complaint against Hamza accusing him of domestic violence. Does the complaint finally put an end to Hamza's beating? Do the couple kiss and make up or do Shamzi and Badru finally let the police put him behind bars forms the rest of the story. The writing of 'Darlings' stands out The humour in 'Darlings' is not in your face. Instead, it’s in the little moments. It is subtle and makes you smirk at the clever writing but never laugh out loud. Written by Parveen Sheikh and co-written by Reen, the film's detailing, the dialect of the actors, and the character portrayals are so well done that it keeps you hooked throughout its 1 hour 45 minutes run time. The scenes are so engaging and well written. especially, the scene at the police station where the Inspector (Vijay Maurya) and Shamsi and Badru engage a hilarious conversation fuelled by misinterpretations. It’s the kind of scene that you expect to see in Anurag Kashyap's film where characters are middle in trivial banters for a long time till they find the core point. Both gifted actors- complement each other- never overstepping each other’s acting space and emoting majorly through expressions and eyes. It is truly a delight to watch the two gifted actresses attempt a genre like this. The men, Vijay Verma and Roshan Mathew too are equally good in their parts. Verma who shined in his limited screen time in films like 'Gully Boy' and 'Pink' gets a complex role to play in 'Darlings'. His Hamza is no ordinary man, a twisted, dark man who vents out his frustration at the workplace through violence at home, he should ideally be the most hated character in the film. Yet, Verma brings in his charm to the character and plays evil with so much style that you end up enjoying his antics- even though you know he is wrong. Mathew on the other hand plays a strikingly opposite character to Hamza. A polite, nice, aspiring writer Zulfi yearns for Badru but is unable to say it out loud. Instead, he willingly gives the mother-daughter company as they plot a devilish plan against Hamza. Not just casting, but the film's music perfectly blends in with the story.’ Dil La Ilaaj’ and the title song especially stand out While ‘Darlings’ tells an important story, it also loses its humour slightly in the second half. I would have hoped that the film was darker and more twisted, but instead, it focuses more on getting closure for its lead protagonist. <p>Indian actor Dhanush walked the red carpet on Wednesday night in Mumbai for the India premiere of 'The Gray Man'. Dhanush is part of the ensemble cast that is being headlined by Ryan Gosling&nbsp;and Chris Evans. The film's directors, the Russo Brothers too were in Mumbai for the special event.&nbsp;<br />

What caught everyone's attention though was Dhanush's choice of outfit for the red carpet premiere. The actor who plays a pivotal role in Hollywood films, stuck to basics and wore the traditional <em>veshti </em>to the premiere of the film in Mumbai.&nbsp;<br />

Dhanush came dressed in a white shirt and white <em>veshti,</em> a traditional white cloth that is worn as a wrap-around by men in South India. It is the most common outfit for formal events across South India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The actor folded his hands and posed with the Russo Brothers and other guests at the event for the cameras. The event also saw actor Vicky Kaushal and filmmaker Anand L Rai in attendance. Needless to say, the actor's choice of outfit won hearts on the internet.&nbsp;</p>

What caught everyone's attention though was Dhanush's choice of outfit for the red carpet premiere. The actor who plays a pivotal role in Hollywood films, stuck to basics and wore the traditional veshti to the premiere of the film in Mumbai. Dhanush came dressed in a white shirt and white veshti, a traditional white cloth that is worn as a wrap-around by men in South India. It is the most common outfit for formal events across South India. The actor folded his hands and posed with the Russo Brothers and other guests at the event for the cameras. 'India Predator: The Butcher of Delhi' trailer: The spine chilling case now on your TV screen

<p>The trailer of the upcoming OTT film 'Thar', starring Anil Kapoor and his son Harshvarrdhan Kapoor, was released on Monday.<br />
<br />
The film traces the journey of Siddharth, an antique dealer in a remote village in Rajasthan that has of late been witness to a series of violent killings. As the local cop Surekha Singh investigates these killings he crosses paths with Siddharth.</p>

<p>Talking about the film, Harshvarrdhan Kapoor shared, "The wait is almost over and we`re very excited to be handing our film over to audiences all over the world. We've paid attention to the little details and they have added up to create a world and a narrative that is unique. Netflix is the perfect platform for `Thar` to reach audiences globally who will connect with the film."</p>

<p>Anil Kapoor spoke about working with his son again after 'AK Vs AK', "I love working with young and new talent and with `Thar` bringing onboard young actors and filmmakers it gives me a completely different perspective on films."</p>

<p>The film also stars veteran actor Satish Kaushik, who has delivered many successful films with Anil Kapoor in the 1980s and 1990s, and 'Dangal' star Fatima Sana Shaikh and 'Sacred Games'&nbsp;actor Jeetendra Joshi.</p>

<p>Sharing his thoughts on the film, Satish said, "I`m thrilled to be a part of this project and to get the chance to work with Anil ji and the rest of the cast and crew. When I was offered this character, I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to play the part because it is something I had not done before in my acting career."</p>

<p>For Fatima, it was an opportunity to try something completely different, as she said, " I`ve got the opportunity to work on a very distinct character that I haven`t played in the past."</p>

<p>She further said, "Working with Raj Singh Chaudhary, Harshvarrdhan, Anil sir, Satish sir and Jitendra Joshi was lovely. As always, I am excited to collaborate with Netflix again and am looking forward to how the audiences react to this film and to my character."</p>

<p>Director Raj Singh Chaudhary calls the film, "a unique and engaging genre" that he`s "extremely excited to present to the audience".</p>

<p>He said, "This film has taken many years to come into fruition and has been an enthralling experience from beginning to end. Working with such powerhouse performers and team has been a wonderful journey for me and I am looking forward to this film reaching audiences globally through Netflix."</p>

A remake of the 90s German cult classic 'Run Lola Run' by Tom Tywer, 'Looop Lapeta' breathes a fresh lease of life into a known story, giving its protagonist Savi, a former athlete, 80 minutes and three chances at saving her good-for-nothing boyfriend Satya and procure Rs 50 lac. In the original, the protagonist had 20 minutes.&nbsp;<br />

But Bhatia along with co-writers Vinay Chhawal, Ketan Pedgaonkar, Aakash Batia, Arnav Vepa Nanduri give a very contemporary Indian spin to the story which is high on energy, quirks and performance making the 2 hr 11 minutes film feel like a breeze.&nbsp;</p>

It isn't easy to make a remake of a hit that has been loved and revered the world over but Bhatia and his team of writers manage to step up, create very interesting subplots with characters that can have their own separate stories to make the film thoroughly enjoyable.&nbsp;<br />

There are two dimwitted brothers Gappu-Appu (Raghav Raj Kakker and Manik Papneja) who plan to rob&nbsp;their father's jewellery store- a place that Satya too plans to steal from. The confusion that ensues &nbsp;(not once but three times over) while the store is robbed, is one of the most well written and enacted portions of the film. There is also a Taxi driver, who crosses paths with Savi and who is heartbroken about his girlfriend getting married to someone else. Also adding more fun to the plot is a cop- who on his way to buy the fresh catch from the fish market, spots Savi running, gets suspicious and starts chasing her. Not just the lead pair, but Bhatia ensures all the characters have an intrinsic part to play in the loop and are so well fleshed out that you want to know more about them.&nbsp;</p>

<br />
Tahir Raj Bhasin, easily the man of the moment on OTT space, is refreshing, goofy, charming - all wrapped into one. We all know slackers like Satya in real life and yet we all fall for their optimism and simplicity. Bhasin breathes in the right amount of charm into his character and its a delight to watch him on screen. He shares great onscreen chemistry with Pannu and the two support each other well throughout the film.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Actors Raghav Raj Kakker and Manik Papneja are equally charming as Gappu and Appu. I would love to see the two getting a spin-off. They were so effective in their parts, drawing in the laughs. So did Shreya Dhanwanthary and Samir Kevin Roy as lovers Julia and Jacob.&nbsp;</p>

So is this party-time for actresses above 40? &nbsp;“I feel the doors were opening even before the &nbsp;OTT took over during the pandemic. &nbsp;The new generation of actresses like Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt had so much more to do in their films than I had an opportunity to do. Back then when I did something like 'Shool' or 'Daman' &nbsp;I was criticized for breaking the commercial economics. If you did something out of the box you were seen as a spoilsport. I had to work so hard on convincing Ram Gopal Varma that I was right for the role of the Bihari housewife in 'Shool'. He was like, ‘Raveena, when I close my eyes I don’t see &nbsp;you in that character.’”</p>

<p>For Raveena doors were opening even before the OTT explosion. “I &nbsp;was offered KGF 2 long before 'Aranyak' on Netflix. I was supposed to be in Part 1 also. Self-appointed ganglords and their thoroughly bratty children, powered by rudderless goons who think they can get away with murder, literally, make Sengupta’s blood boil.</p>

<p>There is an undercurrent of the simmering spleen in 'Yeh Kali Kali Aankhein'(named after a &nbsp;hit song from the Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Baazigar' for no particular reason) &nbsp;a looming resentment against the things people with money and power can do to the powerless. This is a &nbsp;series about the abuse of power of wealth, about lawless gangsters forcing their will on the helpless: a &nbsp;favourite theme in our cinema for years.</p>

<p>But wait. There is a twist to the tale here. The bully patriarch, played with unerring pitch-perfection by Sourabh Shukla, has a &nbsp;lovely daughter and she is in love with the poor little pretty boy since school. Purva, played by the lovely Aanchal Singh, is no walkover. Nor is she the vampish Bindu of yore slithering and slobbering all over her object of desire. She is a &nbsp;moneyed classy chick who wants the hick with the…never-mind.</p>

<p>The writing is unabashedly pulpy and the twists in the plot, especially from the midpoint are mindnumbing in their preposterousness. To his credit screenwriter, Siddharth Sengupta sustains the pulpy momentum right till the end. The frenetic pace, often literally staged with goons chasing law-abiding god-fearing citizens to their death, never slackens.</p>

<p>Seen in the spirit of &nbsp;Sidney Sheldon’s fiction-in-motion. 'Yeh &nbsp;Kali &nbsp;Kali Aankhein' is a &nbsp;sock-in-the-tummy entertainer. It is set in a town by the &nbsp;Ganga named Onkara (a stand-in for &nbsp;Varanasi or Allahabad). The last two episodes which turn dark and murderous, are shot in Ladakh with the change of visuals serving a specific function.</p>

<p>I saw no compromises in production values just because the size of the screen has shrunk. The series has an eye-catching look and a lived-in feeling.</p>

<p>All the actors from Tahir Raj Bhasin(so ridiculous in his bewigged Mahesh Bhatt avatar in this week’s other series 'Ranjish Hi Sahi') and Shweta Tiwari, playing the simple-minded couple whose togetherness is shredded by the murderous machinations of the rich bitch(these moneyed types, I tell you) &nbsp; to the typecast Brijendra &nbsp;Kala(as &nbsp; Bhasin’s cocky domineering father) and Surya Sharma as &nbsp; Purva’s borderline psychotic brother(almost a repeat of what this talented actor played in the same director’s &nbsp;Undekhi) all do well for themselves.</p>

<p>But the real catch of the serial is Aanchal Singh as the won’t-take-no-for-an-answer lover girl. She plays the part in dignified measured tones giving &nbsp;Purva a &nbsp;kind of grace that perhaps the character doesn’t deserve.Also watch out for Anant Joshi as &nbsp;Vikrant’s best friend. He is the comic relief and a welcome one for a change. And Purva’s rapper-suitor played by Nikhil Pandey is a hoot.</p>

<p>I wish the narration was not so anxious to take audiences along. A kind of desperate breathlessness does seep into the storytelling at times. &nbsp;But that’s okay. Better than &nbsp;10 episodes of languorous tedium that we’ve been subjected to in some recent serials.</p>

They are both successful in their professions. She is a Venture Capitalist while he is a&nbsp;best selling author( second only to Chetan Bhagat, of course). They share a daughter together, Rohini, and live in a plush neighbourhood in Gurgaon. For the outside world, it's a perfect match- or so say the onlookers, but when you dig deeper, you realise there is no love left between the two.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Created and written by journalist Manu Joseph, who is known for his witty take on life, 'Decoupled' is perhaps the most experimental content that Netflix India has produced this year. On the face of it, its a story of a couple on verge of separation and how they and their families come to terms with their 'unique' arrangement. But the dramedy is much more.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Through its protagonist Arya Iyer, the series takes a dig at almost everything. From marriage, love and&nbsp;divorces to the ultra-religious kinds to teenage boys and puberty to even Netflix and Korean hit 'Parasite', the series spares no one. And the story's hero Arya Iyer, a caustic, cynical middle-aged man, is too upfront and obnoxious to be taken seriously and liked. It's a different story that most of Arya's jargon on life are actually true. But he doesn't know how to wrap up the unpleasant truth in the appropriate manner, making almost everyone around him loathe him, including his patient wife Shruti, who only gives steely glares to him through the greater part of this eight-part dramedy.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
While the premise is promising and the lead pair is pitch-perfect in their respective roles, the narrative is sketchy. A scene in the middle of the series has one of Arya's filmmaker friend Manav complaining that how Netflix is not happy with of the pitches that he and Arya have made so far. "The jokes just don't land," complains the Netflix executive moments later. Indeed, the jokes just don't land in 'Decoupled' on most occasions. They are outrageous, sometimes slightly cringy but not funny making the viewer wonder where exactly is the story headed.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The couple, through the eight episodes, muddle over how to break the news of their divorce to their daughter and the world at large, and the process seems too stretched and tad repetitive after a point. The makers try to experiment with a concept like a divorce- sprucing it with dry humour- yet succumb to predictability and slapstick in the final episode in an attempt to make it funny. The result is not the best.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla though are very good as Arya and Shruti. Arya is not the man you would want to be friends with. He is too honest for his own good and rather brash. Madhavan, who has played myriad roles in nearly three-decades-long careers, breathes in a certain amount of freshness to his character. Arya is popular but also someone you will easily hate or will be uncomfortable around. It's a delight to watch Maddy play a character that one wouldn't immediately associate the actor with - considering the do-gooder roles that he has played for years. It's a delight to watch R Madhavan as the politically incorrect Arya Iyer.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Matching him with her ice-cold glares is actress Surveen Chawla, who makes her character Shruti a stark contrast to Arya. You empathise with her at one time but also get confused at other times. Chawla over the years has made her niche in the film industry by carefully picking her roles. 'Decoupled' gives her ample opportunity to prove her mettle and she doesn't disappoint.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The supporting cast comprising of Akaash Khurana, Apara Mehta, Atul Kumar, Mir Afsar Ali and Aseem Hattangady are equally good.&nbsp;</p>

'Decoupled' review: R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla shine in a usual story of marriage

<p>Leonardo DiCaprio calls his new movie 'Don't Look Up' a gift.&nbsp;Not because he got to work with a cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet and Jonah Hill, to name just a few, but because the film captures the perils of climate change, while also making people laugh.<br />

"I think we all looked at this as an incredibly unique gift," said DiCaprio, one of Hollywood`s most vocal campaigners on the environment.<br />

"We`d been wanting to get the message out there about the climate crisis, and Adam (McKay) really cracked the code with creating this narrative," he said.<br />

Released in movie theaters on Friday and on Netflix on Dec. 24, "Don`t Look Up Now" takes a satirical look at how the media and politicians treat climate issues. The plot sees two lowly astronomers (played by DiCaprio and Lawrence) trying to warn a world that doesn`t seem to care about a huge comet on course to destroy the Earth in six months time.<br />

DiCaprio said he`d been looking to do a film about the climate crisis for a while but finding the right approach had proved difficult, until now.<br />

'Comedy Premium League' trailer: India's top comedians compete for the big trophy

<p>Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s directorial venture ‘Ghost Stories’ has landed in troubled waters after a complaint against the four-piece anthology—which released last year on video-streaming giant Netflix—was filed.</p>

According to reports, this complaint happens to be the first to come under the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 that was framed in February this year by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.</p>

As per the new rules, streaming platforms are mandated to have a redressal mechanism to address viewers’ grievances and based on that, a complaint has been filed and received by Netflix India against an allegedly objectionable scene in Anurag Kashyap’s short film, ‘Story 2’, reports claim.</p>

<p><br />
The complaint states that in the scene where actor Sobhita Dhulipala can be seen devouring the fetus from her miscarriage is not required for the narrative and if the makers wish to retain it, then there should be a trigger warning for women who have gone through the trauma of miscarriage.</p>

According to reports, this complaint happens to be the first to come under the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 that was framed in February this year by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. As per the new rules, streaming platforms are mandated to have a redressal mechanism to address viewers’ grievances and based on that, a complaint has been filed and received by Netflix India against an allegedly objectionable scene in Anurag Kashyap’s short film, ‘Story 2’, reports claim. The complaint states that in the scene where actor Sobhita Dhulipala can be seen devouring the fetus from her miscarriage is not required for the narrative and if the makers wish to retain it, then there should be a trigger warning for women who have gone through the trauma of miscarriage.
