<p>She is shown speaking with journalists like Barkha Dutt, Faye D`souza, and even with Karan himself. Sheela can be seen explaining how she has bigger scandals in her life than showbiz people, to which Karan exclaims that they are all `kindergarten scandals` compared to her life.</p>

<p>The trailer even throws light on her well-known journey in the US where she was pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault for her role in the 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack.</p>

<p>Actor Abhishek Banerjee, who features in the 'Khilauna'&nbsp;segment of the upcoming Netflix anthology 'Ajeeb Daastaans', says he initially could not believe that the movie was being made by Dharma Productions. The film, which features four shorts from filmmakers Neeraj Ghaywan, Kayoze Irani, Shashank Khaitan and Raj Mehta, is the latest anthology to come out of Dharmatic, the digital content company of Karan Johar-led Dharma Productions.</p>

<p>The movie, as its title suggests, is about the third wheel in relationships and explores complex themes of fractured relationships, and human emotions such as jealousy, entitlement, prejudices and toxicity, and their effects.</p>

<p>Banerjee, known for his scene-stealing acts in movies and shows such as 'Pataal Lok', 'Stree', 'Mirzapur'&nbsp;and 'Bala', said the film was different from the ones that have come out of Dharma, which is primarily known for its love stories and family dramas. "It took me a little time to accept the fact that this was happening at Dharma. Because you have a very different image about the production house and also the director... Suddenly you reach the set and realise that it is actually being made.</p>

<p>"So in the process of the film, I realised what we are making and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey," the 35-year-old actor told PTI in an interview.</p>

<p>Directed by Mehta of 'Good Newwz'&nbsp;fame, 'Khilauna'&nbsp;also features Nushrratt Bharuccha and child actor Inayat Verma. The movie presents the dark and twisted tale of a housemaid trying to make things better for her and her little sister.</p>

<p>Banerjee plays the role of Sushil, who works as a person who irons clothes to earn his living. Not just the banner, the actor said he had a different perception about the film's director as well. "The script was the major factor because I was blown away by the story. When we started working on it, the first trailer of 'Good Newwz'&nbsp;had been launched.</p>

<p>"When I met him, I realised that it was actually a very dark world that they are creating. So, it was a great opportunity for me to work with a great production house and a great director. It was always a win-win situation."</p>

<p>In 2020, Banerjee was praised for his performance as Vishal 'Hathoda'&nbsp;Tyagi, a notorious hitman in smash-hit Banerjee said he has been keenly observing people from a young age and in turn, tries to bring their traits and nuances into his characters.</p>

<p>"I relate to everybody in the society and therefore, I want my characters to feel relatable to the audience. I observe society very closely and I just talk to everyone.</p>

<p>"I don't have this hierarchy in my mind that I should talk to people who belong to the upper class. I like to interact with everyone and try to find out about their personal stories. If there's a carpenter working at home, then I will start chatting with him about his family. I try to bring these elements in my characters."</p>

<p>'Ajeeb Daastaans', which also features Fatima Sana Shaikh, Jaideep Ahlawat, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shefali Shah and Manav Kaul, will premiere on Netflix on April 16.</p>

The apex child rights body National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) issued a notice to Netflix on Thursday asking it to furnish a detailed action report within 24 hours, failing which it said it will initiate appropriate legal action.&nbsp;<br />

Objecting to the alleged inappropriate portrayal of children in the series, the commission said this type of content will not only pollute the young minds but may also result in the abuse and exploitation of children.<br />
<br />
The commission took action based on a complaint that alleged that the series normalises minors indulging in casual sex and drug abuse.<br />
<br />
"Netflix should take extra precaution while streaming any content in respect of the children or for the children and shall also refrain themselves from getting into such things," the commission said in its notice.</p>

Her films 'Lipstick Under My Burkha'&nbsp; and the recent 'Dolly Kitty Ke Haseen Sapne' have explored issues that women have dealt with for years but has not been well represented in pop culture as much. Her latest, a web series for Netflix called 'Bombay Begum' also narrates the story of five women of varied much like 'Lipstick....' did.&nbsp;<br />

Rani Singh Irani (Pooja Bhatt) is the newly appointed MD of the Royal Bank. A small-town girl who worked her way up the corporate ladder, Rani is on tenterhooks as she takes on the new job. A lot is at stake and her critics are waiting for her slip in order to replace her.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Rani not only needs to meander the men and their cynism about her capabilities in her professional life, but at home has to manage to teenage step-children, and her husband- none of whom are yet over the death of their mother/wife. And though Rani would like to present a picture-perfect life to the world, she has to answer and prove her worth at almost every step.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
She appoints Fatima Warsi(Shahana Goswami ) as the Deputy MD's spot in the bank. A bright, ambitious hardworking woman, Fatima is more perturbed about the fact that she is unable to conceive a child with her husband Arijay (Vivek Gomber) who works in the same bank but in a junior position.&nbsp;<br />

There is also a young Ayesha (Plabita Borthakur) who first gets fired and then eventually hired back in the same bank. She is from Indore, with an MBA degree from one of the lesser-known B-schools. Homeless and friendless, she is taken back in the company by Rani who gives her to run a social welfare scheme for women.&nbsp;<br />

The first recipient of the scheme is Lily (Amruta Subhash) a bar dancer who knows wants to set up a factory and give her son the life she never could get.&nbsp;</p>

Srivastava and co-writers Bornila Chatterjee and Iti Agarwal make the women unapologetic but not at the cost of making the men the villain of their stories. The women are unapologetic, ambitious and perhaps the heroes and villains of their own story. Three out of the five lead protagonists have extra-martial affairs and are not apologetic for sleeping with other men, one is exploring her sexuality and one waits desperately to hit puberty. For their age and background, each woman is bold and powerful and has a distinct voice.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The story deals with power, fame, infidelity, sexuality and coming of age with great detail. Perhaps for the first time, an Indian show openly shows a lead character as a bisexual who is still understand her own needs. The show talks of the female gaze, about workplace sexual harassment and how typically men and women deal when such a crisis hits upon them.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
It also deftly handles sisterhood in a society that is blurred and grey. Sure they pull each other down on several occasions but ultimately come together as each other's biggest supporters. When Fatima finds out that her mentor for years is a sexual predator, her first reaction is doubt the girl and her intentions. "He has a family, there would be repercussions," she warns Ayesha. But eventually, when she does find out the truth, she is one to take up the case and fight for Ayesha.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Similarly, despite being fired a day before, Ayesha finds herself back in the bank because Rani is willing to give this small town girl a chance- as she reminds her of her younger self.</p>

To its credit, the show has some great actors aptly cast in their respective roles. Bhatt, in her comeback project, exudes confidence in the ambitious, sometimes kind, sometimes shrewd Rani. Goswami plays complex Fatima with great ease. Amruta Subhash, a credible actor who has proved her mettle in numerous films before, plays the bar dancer Lily stunningly. Lily's is the outsider in the setup -but she claws her way in as she craves acce[tance and respect much like the other women.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The young stars Borthakur and Adhya Anand as Shai also deliver confident performances.&nbsp;<br />

While on paper, the plot may have held a lot of promise- at the execution level, the show somehow is not as effective. Her latest, a web series for Netflix called 'Bombay Begum' also narrates the story of five women of varied much like 'Lipstick....' did. Rani Singh Irani (Pooja Bhatt) is the newly appointed MD of the Royal Bank. A small-town girl who worked her way up the corporate ladder, Rani is on tenterhooks as she takes on the new job. A lot is at stake and her critics are waiting for her slip in order to replace her. Rani not only needs to meander the men and their cynism about her capabilities in her professional life, but at home has to manage to teenage step-children, and her husband- none of whom are yet over the death of their mother/wife. And though Rani would like to present a picture-perfect life to the world, she has to answer and prove her worth at almost every step. She appoints Fatima Warsi(Shahana Goswami ) as the Deputy MD's spot in the bank. A bright, ambitious hardworking woman, Fatima is more perturbed about the fact that she is unable to conceive a child with her husband Arijay (Vivek Gomber) who works in the same bank but in a junior position. There is also a young Ayesha (Plabita Borthakur) who first gets fired and then eventually hired back in the same bank. She is from Indore, with an MBA degree from one of the lesser-known B-schools. Homeless and friendless, she is taken back in the company by Rani who gives her to run a social welfare scheme for women. The first recipient of the scheme is Lily (Amruta Subhash) a bar dancer who knows wants to set up a factory and give her son the life she never could get. The narrator of the story is 13 year of Shai, Rani's rebellious stepdaughter who - in her own admission- states she an 'old woman trapped in a young girl's body. She sketches her thoughts and talks to her dead 'Mummy'through the show. Srivastava and co-writers Bornila Chatterjee and Iti Agarwal make the women unapologetic but not at the cost of making the men the villain of their stories. The women are unapologetic, ambitious and perhaps the heroes and villains of their own story. Three out of the five lead protagonists have extra-martial affairs and are not apologetic for sleeping with other men, one is exploring her sexuality and one waits desperately to hit puberty. For their age and background, each woman is bold and powerful and has a distinct voice. The story deals with power, fame, infidelity, sexuality and coming of age with great detail. Perhaps for the first time, an Indian show openly shows a lead character as a bisexual who is still understand her own needs. The show talks of the female gaze, about workplace sexual harassment and how typically men and women deal when such a crisis hits upon them. It also deftly handles sisterhood in a society that is blurred and grey. Sure they pull each other down on several occasions but ultimately come together as each other's biggest supporters. When Fatima finds out that her mentor for years is a sexual predator, her first reaction is doubt the girl and her intentions. "He has a family, there would be repercussions," she warns Ayesha. But eventually, when she does find out the truth, she is one to take up the case and fight for Ayesha. Similarly, despite being fired a day before, Ayesha finds herself back in the bank because Rani is willing to give this small town girl a chance- as she reminds her of her younger self. To its credit, the show has some great actors aptly cast in their respective roles. Bhatt, in her comeback project, exudes confidence in the ambitious, sometimes kind, sometimes shrewd Rani. Goswami plays complex Fatima with great ease. Amruta Subhash, a credible actor who has proved her mettle in numerous films before, plays the bar dancer Lily stunningly. Lily's is the outsider in the setup -but she claws her way in as she craves acce[tance and respect much like the other women. She travels every day on the same route by train and obsesses over the house where she earlier lived her ex-husband Shekhar (Avinash Tiwary). Shekhar now lives in that house with his new wife. Meera also crosses Nusrat John's (Aditi Rao Hydari) house in the same route and while she doesn't know her personally, she sees Nusrat's life as the one she could have had.&nbsp;</p>

Despite being diagnosed with amnesia, Parineeti manages to remember a lot of the things her husband tells her she does in about drunken outrage. Then the film also makes the London Police appear absolutely novice who are unable to track and arrest a murder suspect. Accused of murder, Parineeti manages to be at the crime scene several times and there is no police around to stop her. She single-handedly carries out an elaborate investigation and clues walk into her almost all the time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dasgupta who is credited for directing Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Teen' and web series 'Bard Of The Blood' uses commercial frills often in thrillers. 'The Girl In The Train' is no different. There is a Shadi song that serves as a plot to make the girl and boy meet for the first time, there is a drunken pub song and of course a sad love ballad- all these frills are unnecessary in a thriller that has so many subplots to keep the viewers engaged anyway. It also doesn't help that the background score is jarring and tries too hard to build up the suspense- even in scenes where there is no need.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena&nbsp; on Thursday submitted an affidavit to the Delhi High Court stating that she had noty faced any discrimination on the basis of her gender in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and called it a progressive institution.<br />

She maintained that IAF gave her an opportunity to serve the nation, including in the Kargil War and she will forever remain grateful for the opportunities given to her by the force.<br />
<br />
Saxena made the submissions in her affidavit in a suit filed by the Centre seeking a decree of permanent injunction against the Netflix, Dharma Productions and others from broadcasting or releasing in theatres or any other digital platform the film 'Gunjan Saxena - The Kargil Girl', without grant of no-objection certificate (NOC) from it.<br />
<br />
According to the Centre, the film which was streaming on Netflix, depicts the IAF in poor light and dents its image as it shows that the force is gender biased, which is not correct.<br />
<br />
The court, however, refused to pass any interim order over the plea filed by the Central government and said that those who wanted to watch the movie, might already have seen it on the OTT platform.<br />
<br />
"Who will go and watch the film in theatres during the Covid-19 pandemic and the ones who wanted to, have already seen it on OTT platform," the judge said.</p>

<p>Saxena, in her affidavit filed before Justice Rajiv Shakdher, clarified that the movie is not a documentary but is only inspired by her life and it is clear from the two disclaimers placed at the beginning of the film which gives a message to motivate young women to join IAF.<br />

The retired officer said she has utmost respect for IAF and cannot comment on the Centre of the force's perception about the movie in question as everybody's perception is different.<br />

Netflix wins legal battle to stream limited series 'Bad Boy Billionaires: India'

<p>Netflix has released three episodes of its four-part series about four Indian tycoons facing fraud allegations after a state court lifted an injunction, a lawyer for the world’s largest streaming service said on Monday.</p>

<p>The 'Bad Boy Billionaires: India'&nbsp;documentary series about liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya, Subrata Roy of the Sahara group, IT executive Ramalinga Raju and jeweller Nirav Modi had been set for release last month.</p>

<p>But Netflix suspended it after an order from the Araria district court in the eastern Bihar state, where the Sahara group argued it would damage Roy’s reputation.</p>

<p>The court lifted this injunction on Saturday, Amit Shrivastava, a lawyer for Netflix said.</p>

<p>Shrivastava declined further comment and it was not immediately clear why the court had overturned its previous order. The official order has yet to be released.</p>

<p>Netflix did not respond to a request for comment.</p>

<p>Sahara said in a statement that the documentary was “misleading”, adding that it was “depicted through some disgruntled people who hold personal grudges against Sahara”.</p>

<p>Roy is currently on bail, having been ordered by a court to repay billions of dollars to investors in a scheme which was found to be illegal. Roy denied wrongdoing in the case and his lawyer has said he has already repaid investors.</p>

<p>The ongoing dispute is among the most high-profile ones Netflix has faced in India, one of its key growth markets, where some of its shows have faced court challenges and police complaints for obscenity or for hurting religious sentiments.</p>

The 'Bad Boy Billionaires: India' documentary series about liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya, Subrata Roy of the Sahara group, IT executive Ramalinga Raju and jeweller Nirav Modi had been set for release last month. But Netflix suspended it after an order from the Araria district court in the eastern Bihar state, where the Sahara group argued it would damage Roy’s reputation. The court lifted this injunction on Saturday, Amit Shrivastava, a lawyer for Netflix said. Shrivastava declined further comment and it was not immediately clear why the court had overturned its previous order. The official order has yet to be released. Netflix did not respond to a request for comment. Sahara said in a statement that the documentary was “misleading”, adding that it was “depicted through some disgruntled people who hold personal grudges against Sahara”. Roy is currently on bail, having been ordered by a court to repay billions of dollars to investors in a scheme which was found to be illegal. Roy denied wrongdoing in the case and his lawyer has said he has already repaid investors. The ongoing dispute is among the most high-profile ones Netflix has faced in India, one of its key growth markets, where some of its shows have faced court challenges and police complaints for obscenity or for hurting religious sentiments. <p>Masks, sanitizers, gloves- little did we think, a year ago, that purchasing these simple items would become the most important thing in our 2020 to-do-lists. At this very second, the coronavirus has confined all of us everywhere, within the four walls of our homes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Netflix India's, 'Home Stories' is a collection of four short films that give us a glimpse of the few complications that have arisen due to the lockdown. Full points on relatability here, as there are high chances that one of them might be your story or of someone close. This is also the first time we will be seeing narratives based on this year's coronavirus outbreak in Indian cinema.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Directed by four filmmakers- Sahirr Sethi, Anubhuti Kashyap, Tanvi Gandhi and Ashwin Laxmi Narayan, these short films have been written, shot and produced during the lockdown. Is there anything left which we Indians have not been able to accomplish in a work from home scenario? The viewers also get to see a behind-the-scenes towards the end of the anthology.</p>

<p>The first film titled 'Out With It', stars 'Made in Heaven' actor Arjun Mathur and dwells on the theme of mental health during the pandemic. The protagonist, Angad experiences anxiety and stress every time he decides to step outside the door. It's so extreme, that even to pick up the carton of eggs, he stops his breath first or tries to drag it with a long stick. In the midst of this, there is an anonymous voice that encourages him to step out, socialise and reunite with his friends and family. But, everyday Angad puts on his clothes, repeats "I will go out today," but ultimately sticks to his daily plan of staying under house arrest. It's ironic that when he finally gets the courage to step into the outside world, the country itself comes under lockdown. The whole film is carried by this one actor, who with very few dialogues, manages to speak volumes through his expressions.</p>

<p>'Will You Be My Quarantine?'&nbsp;is the second film and revolves around a couple that is forced to live under lockdown together. Vaishnavi (Saba Azad) and Rehaan's (Imaad Shah) one-night stand gets converted to a 3 weeks standoff after the Prime Minister's announcement of a nationwide lockdown. Irritated and frustrated with each other, they initially start off by playing a game of cat and mouse. But, over the course of a few days or actually arguments they develop a soft corner for each other. While Vaishnavi helps out by giving Rehaan her laptop during a work crisis, Rehaan plans her an impromptu birthday party. This unlikely duo, make the best of the situation and ultimately become good friends.&nbsp;We also get to see a small cameo by Little Things actors&nbsp;Mithila Palkar and Dhruv Sehgal.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>'Delivering Smiles'&nbsp;was the most heartwarming story in this anthology. It tries to convey an important message of being empathetic towards delivery executives. This is the story of Prakash (Tanmay Dhanania) who records his entire day as he goes around the city doing his daily job in the middle of the lockdown. While we sit safely in our houses, the delivery executives make sure we get all our necessities and cravings by risking their own lives. The short film shows the kind of customers a delivery guy like Prakash would meet during the coronavirus lockdown. From an over paranoid customer who treats the delivery executive with disrespect to an old lady who offers him a glass of water, Prakash meets a variety of people. His optimism is a force to reckon with, as whatever life throws at him, he simply smiles and says "have a good day, have a good life!" Tanmay Dhanania's acting is on point and he fits into the character of Prakash effortlessly.</p>

<p>'Web Ne Bana Di Jodi' shows the journey of Ashu (Veer Rajwant Singh) and Jia (Apoorva Arora), who had to settle for an online Shaadi. After a disastrous Haldi ceremony conducted on a video call, Jia receives flak from her father, who always envisioned a grand wedding for his daughter. He even threatens not to attend the rest of the ceremonies. However, the couple's positive attitude and love for each other prevails as they not only conduct a 'viral' sangeet, but are also able to persuade Jia's father to attend the wedding. If you or any of your close ones are set to be married during the lockdown, watch this film for an idea of what a roller coaster ride it will be!</p>

<p>From predicting if the Prime Minister&nbsp;will end the lockdown in the next speech to the time when we were told to go on balconies and bang utensils to show our support to corona warriors, these memorable moments have been captured well through these films. You will get a sense of deja vu for sure! All four films have an interesting storyline, and each portrays their themes beautifully.</p>

<p>The streaming giant on Monday announced 10 new original films across a range of genres and subjects. With these, the total number of films that will be releasing early next year comes to 15. <p>Among the new titles that have not been announced before this, ‘Ghost Stories’ will see directors Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap reunite after ‘Lust Stories’ to tell spine-chilling tales. This will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP and Ashi Dua. Another from the same will be ‘Mrs. Serial Killer’ that is directed by Shirish Kunder and produced by his filmmaker wife Farah Khan.</p>

<p>Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment is producing ‘Class Of 83’. Directed by Atul Sabharwal, it explores the story of an upright policeman-turned-trainer whose students grapple with the complexities of honour, morals and devotion to the nation.</p>

<p>‘Guilty’, produced by Dharmatic and directed by Ruchi Narain, explores the versions of truth that emerge when a small town girl accuses the college heartthrob of rape. Speaking on the same, producer Karan Johar said, "Today a filmmaker with an interesting idea has so many avenues to connect with the audience... As a content creator, there has never been a better time to tell stories."</p>

<p>Sooni Taraporevala has helmed ‘Yeh Ballet’, produced by Roy Kapur Films. It's a story about two boys from low-income families who discover ballet and use it to escape their challenging circumstances.</p>

While their prompt response in nabbing the perpetrators was lauded, they were also questioned for failing to provide adequate security for women in the capital city. Six years after the landmark case, Indo-Canadian filmmaker Richie Mehta recounts the entire incident in a new seven-part series called 'Delhi Crime' which tells the story from Delhi Police' perspective. Featuring Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain, Rajesh Tailang and others the show is available on Netflix.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shefali Shah, who plays DCP Vertika Chaturvedi in the show, says that she took exactly 3 minutes to say 'yes' to Mehta. Shah's character is shown to be in charge of the investigative team that eventually cracked the case and arrested the rapists. Considering the show is based on a real-life incident, Shah says that the team was aware that it had to be approached with sensitivity and a certain amount of responsibility. "When I heard what Richie had in mind, I knew he would treat this with great sensitivity. The incident shook and scarred all of us- something that we will never get over. But Richie wanted to tell what happened after that incident took place, the investigation that followed," said Shah while speaking to WION.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Calling her director 'benevolent', Shah said that he was clear that he did not want an actress onboard. "Richie was clear that he did not want an actress but a collaborator. He told me that 'I have written from a man's perspective. I need a woman, a voice to bring in the sensitivity.'" The actress said she tried to bring in her own interpretation as to how a female officer would deal with the situation. "We all worked very hard on the script and Rishi is quite open to opinions and suggestion. He is not at all rigid and I respect him a lot as a director."</p>

<p>To prep for her role, she did meet the lady officer on whom her character is based. Calling her inspirational, Shah said that she was kind enough to answer all her queries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Did she ever get emotional or overwhelmed while filming the show? "I was overwhelmed throughout. I think playing Vertika has been the most emotionally consuming role for me. I get emotionally involved with all my characters but this one more so."</p>

<p>Shah also learned a lot from her character of Vertika. "She is emotional just like me but unlike me, she has to keep it under check. She cannot let her emotions cloud her investigations."&nbsp;</p>

Aware that the Police was severely criticised for not amping the security in the capital, Shah says, "Preventive security is not possible always. Delhi has a population of a small country. No one can ever fathom that such a thing can happen until it happens."</p>

<p>The show premiered at Sundance Film Festival where it received critical praises. "When we started filming, we did not know which OTT platform would pick it up. It was only after Sundance, that Netflix decided to release it. I think that way, I'd call the entire team very brave to have agreed to do such a project without knowing if it ever will get a release. I guess, we just wanted to tell an important story and rest worked out on its own."</p>

<p>The actress who rose to fame during her stint on Indian TV in the late 1990s and early 2000s, says that OTT platforms like Netflix have a huge reach which helps shows like 'Delhi Crime'. "There is scope for detailing when one is making a series for the web. Besides I can binge watch. I don't have to wait for another week to watch what happens next."</p>

<p>The actress also feels that the present times are far more open to women-centric content. "Be it films or web shows, I think stories with women-protagonists now are thought of more now that earlier."&nbsp;</p>
