The wicket-keeper batter was among the runs for the Men in Green and produced a couple of match-winning knocks to help his team produce a brilliant campaign in the showpiece event which concluded last week. However, it was not an easy tournament for Rizwan, who had spent two days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ahead of Pakistan's semi-final clash against Australia.

Pictures of Rizwan lying on a hospital bed had emerged after his brilliant knock of 67 runs against Australia in the all-important semi-final. It was later revealed that the cricketer was admitted in a hospital even a day prior to the semi-final and that he had spent a couple of days in the ICU. He was hospitalised due to a severe chest infection and was constantly facing trouble breathing.

Rizwan was in a race against time to be fit for the semi-final against Australia and made a miraculous recovery to feature in the all-important encounter. The Pakistan batter recently revealed chilling details of his battle&nbsp;in the ICU and what he was told by one of the nurses regarding his illness. Rizwan said he couldn't breathe when he was admitted to the hospital and that one of the nurses told him both his windpipes would have burst had he been 20 minutes late.

"When I reached the hospital, I wasn't breathing. And the nurses told me that my windpipes were choked. They were not telling me anything. I was told that I would get better by morning and discharged. During the afternoon, I was told that I will be discharged in the evening. So, I asked one of the nurses and then I was told that had it been late in reaching the hospital by 20 minutes, both my windpipes would have burst. You will have to be there for two nights or more," Rizwan told Cricket Pakistan.

Rizwan was treated by an Indian doctor, who admitted he was astonished by the Pakistan batter's recovery. The doctor had advised Rizwan not to take the field against Australia but the wicket-keeper batter made a full recovery and played the semi-final.

"They used to conduct regular tests but the constant thought in my mind was that I'll soon get fit to play the match. The doctor told me that he wanted me to play the semi-final for Pakistan which gave me a boost. But later, when he told me that 'Rizwan, you are not in a condition to play'… that took me back a little. He told me there are risks involved. Thankfully, things started getting better and I was able to make a quick recovery," Rizwan recalled.

"Rizwan had a severe infection. Recovery and gaining fitness before the semifinal seemed unrealistic. It would have normally taken five-seven seven days for anybody to recover," Dr Sainalabdeen said.&nbsp;

"He seemed very focused and believed in God. His only thoughts were about the semifinal," the doctor said, adding that the player kept saying that he wants to "play and be with the team".&nbsp;

The doctor also said that during sporting events, they have seen players with injuries, however, Rizwan's case was the first time when a player with a severe infection had recovered so quickly.

The doctor said that when Rizwan hit the big sixes during the semi-final match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai they were happy.&nbsp;

"The power he has regained after the illness has been amazing. His dedication, commitment, and courage are truly commendable," said Dr Sainalabdeen.&nbsp;

Pakistan lost to Australia in the second semi-final in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition, being held in the UAE. On Thursday evening (November 10), the two sides met each other at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai to book a place in the final, with New Zealand already confirming their spot.

While many believed Babar Azam-led Pakistan were favourites to win the semi-final face-off and enter the summit clash, being the only unbeaten team in the competition, the Men in Green lost to Aaron Finch-led Australia by five wickets, failing to defend 176 on board.

Being asked to bat first, Babar &amp; Co. posted a competitive 176-4 riding on Mohammad Rizwan's 67 and Fakhar Zaman's 55 not out. In reply, Australia were tottering at 96-5 and needed 50 off 4 fours. However, Marcus Stoinis (40 not out) and Matthew Wade (unbeaten 41) took their side home with an over to spare.

Younis Khan said that Pakistan should be wary of the threat posed by Bumrah, though he added that his country`s bowlers too were in "good shape". 
 
"Pakistan`s fast bowlers have been in good shape. For India, their pace attack has improved significantly in the recent past as well. Bumrah, in particular, has been brilliant in the last few months." 
 
He also said that as far as experience goes, Kohli had established himself as a top cricketer and a leader, while Babar Azam was still establishing his international career.

Australia pulled off a sensational last-over, six-run win despite a debut hundred by Pakistan's Abid Ali and second career century by Mohammad Rizwan in the fourth one-day international in Dubai on Friday.

Needing 278 to win, Pakistan were brought close to their target by Ali's 112 and Rizwan's 104 but in the end the twin hundreds were in vain as they failed to score a required 17 off Marcus Stoinis's last over.

The win gives Australia a 4-0 lead with the last match also in Dubai on Sunday. Glenn Maxwell missed a second career hundred by just two runs, Usman Khawaja scored 62 and Alex Carey 55 as Australia posted 277-7 in their 50 overs.

Ali and Rizwan had put Pakistan on course for victory with a 144-run third-wicket stand but once Ali departed off leg-spinner Adam Zampa in the 42nd over, the innings wilted under the pressure of 60 runs in the last 8.5 overs.
