Priyanka Chopra left starving at Met Gala, Nick Jonas ordered pizza

<p>Global icon and actor Priyanka Chopra has said that when she returned to India from the United States, her father put bars on the windows of her room. She added that the measure was to protect her after a boy had jumped onto her balcony at night. Chopra made the revelation while speaking on <em>The Howard Stern Show</em>. She said that her father, Ashok&nbsp;Chopra, was "paranoid" about her safety and asked her to wear loose or Indian clothes. She also mentioned that she was "arrogant, vain" and thought she was "invincible" during the first two years after returning to India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She said that she "peacocked" like she did in her American high school, and boys would follow her home. After the incident, her father became even more concerned and restricted her from wearing jeans and assigned a driver to her.</p>

<p>Looking like an angel straight from heaven, Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt made her grand Met Gala debut on Monday in a Prabal Gurung creation. As she was posing for the paps at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, something odd happened on the red carpet. A few Hollywood paps mistook her for another Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. A video of the same is currently going viral on social media.</p>

<p>Alia maintained her calm and composure and didn't bother to correct the paps. She kept smiling and posing graciously as paps shouted, "Look here, Aishwarya."</p>

Alia's fans from India compared the incident to Indian paps mispronouncing American celebrities' names during the NMACC event in Mumbai. <p>For those unaware, paps at Mumbai's NMACC event mispronounced American celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Tom Holland and Zendaya's names and a video compilation of the same went viral online in March.</p>

<p>Met Gala, one of the biggest fashion events, was held in New York City on Monday. The world witnessed many Asian celebrities including Indian mega stars like Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt who dazzled the red carpet with their fashion A–game. But did you know that apart from the Indian celebs that walked the carpet at the event, this year’s Gala night had another big Indian connection?</p>

<p>The beautiful red carpet on which the celebs walked was actually ‘made in India’. The carpet, which was not exactly red, but beige with smattering red and blue lines on it was designed by an Indian design house by ‘Neyyt by Extraweave’.</p>

<p>Taking to Instagram, Neyyt shared the news on their official Instagram handle and captioned it, “A proud moment for our team to provide carpets to the Met Gala for the second time in a row. Contemporary design, woven with love, rooted in Kerala. Made in India."</p>

<p>The carpet at the 2023 Met Gala, reportedly, took 60 days to complete. The 6960 square metre carpet was made out of 58 30*4 metre rolls. The carpet was made from sisal fibres, which are derived from the Agave plant and were painted in the United States. This fibre is 120 cm long, sturdy and is used to make floor covering, wall coverings and high-end carpets.</p>

<p>The Alappuzha-based design house is led by two Indian designers, Sivan Santhosh and Nimisha Srinivas.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last year, the Metropolitan of Art’s Costume Institute, based in New York, decided to shift from the classic red carpet to a more sustainable one. For this transition, they connected with Neyyt by Extraweave and asked them to manufacture the exquisite carpet this season.</p>

<p>This year’s theme at the Met Gala was ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’. It was based on the new Costume Institute exhibition exploring the work of the iconic designer, Lagerfeld. He died in 2019 at the age of 85 and spent decades of his life creating clothes for Balmain, Patou, Chloe, Fendi and Chanel in addition to his own namesake label.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Other than Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt, entrepreneur Isha Ambani and style icon, Natasha Poonawala also graced the event with their unique styles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Celebrities like Karlie Kloss, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, Robert Pattison, Jared Letto, Rihanna, Zendaya, Kim Kardashian and Gigi Hadid also marked their presence at the Gala night.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Janelle Monáe dropped a bulky black-and-white coat to reveal a sheer cage dress on the Met Gala carpet Monday and Jeremy Pope lit up the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Grand Staircase in a huge cape emblazoned with the visage of Karl Lagerfeld.</p>

<p>Lagerfeld was the honoree at the A-list gala with many in the crowd of about 400 dressed in vintage looks from the fashion houses where he worked during a career of more than 60 years.</p>

<p>But elegant wasn’t entirely the hallmark of the evening. Jared Leto dressed as Choupette, Lagerfeld’s beloved fluffy cat. Lil Nas X went full cat covered in crystals by Pat McGrath and Dior Men.</p>

<p>Bad Bunny showed up late in bright white from head to toe with a long cape adorned with flowers. Monáe’s look, with a black sparkly leotard underneath, was made by Thom Browne.</p>

<p>Dua Lipa walked in a Chanel ballgown from the fashion house’s archive and Nicole Kidman chose a look Karl Lagerfeld himself made for her 20 years ago.</p>

<p>Claudia Schiffer wore the gown on the runway for its debut, although hers had a matching hat. Lipa’s necklace in platinum included a center diamond of more than 200 carats.</p>

<p>Nicole Kidman said it was Lagerfeld who ignited her fashion spark. She wore a pale pink gown created by Lagerfeld for a Chanel No. 5 commercial she starred in. It’s adorned with 3,000 silver crystals for the ad directed by Baz Luhrmann.</p>

<p>“I’m very grateful to wear it,” she told The Associated Press. “He was so much a part of my life, as were his whole team. He was the one really sort of shepherded me … in terms of my love of fashion.”</p>

<p>Kidman topped off her look with Harry Winston diamonds.</p>

<p>With a live stream available when the evening gets underway, the world’s most fashionable fundraiser takes on one of the world’s most prolific — and controversial — designers, the late Karl Lagerfeld, as the starry party’s theme.</p>

<p>So how would the man of the hour, who died in 2019, feel about all the hullabaloo? Lagerfeld was a student of history, to be sure, but his eyes were forever on the future.</p>

<p>“Karl never wanted to have a retrospective when he was alive. He felt that it was funereal. He made the point that (Cristóbal) Balenciaga and (Coco) Chanel never had them when they were alive,” said William Middleton, who wrote the biography “Paradise Now: The Extraordinary Life of Karl Lagerfeld.”</p>

<p>So what about now?</p>

<p>“He believed very much in fashion history, so he’s a part of fashion history now. I don’t think he would have had a problem with it,” Middleton surmised.</p>

<p>Others aren’t so sure.</p>

<p>Caroline Lebar worked with Lagerfeld for 35 years, rising to senior vice president of image and communications for his eponymous brand. Lagerfeld loved the Met, but he always said: “‘I’m not an artist, I’m a fashion maker,’” Lebar said on the company’s site.</p>

<p>“He didn’t think his work belonged in a museum. Anna Wintour also mentioned this when she made the announcement about the theme,” Lebar explained.</p>

<p>The invitation-only gala earned $17.4 million last year for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, a self-funding department with a budget dependent on the A-list affair. The price of attending went up this year to $300,000 for a table and $50,000 for a single ticket.</p>

<p>Companies and brands buy tables and host many of the roughly 400 guests expected this year from fashion, film, music, theatre, sports, tech and social media. They were asked to dress “in honour of Karl” by gala mastermind Wintour, a close Lagerfeld friend who first signed on to the event in 1995 and took over the helm in 1999.</p>

<p>Fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert thought up the Met Gala back in 1948 as a fundraiser for the newly founded Costume Institute. It was a dinner held elsewhere. The idea is to celebrate the opening of the institute’s big exhibition each year, this time called “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”</p>

<p>American fashion was last year’s vibe. It followed gilded glamour and white tie. Camp was the theme in 2019, producing what is considered one of the wackiest displays of dresses by the celebrity crowd.</p>

<p>Katy Perry wore a chandelier, then slipped into a hamburger outfit. Lady Gaga did a four-layer strip tease on the Met’s Grand Staircase and Jared Leto carried a stage version of his own head.</p>

<p>Dressing to the Lagerfeld theme could be a breeze for guests with stylists able to source the best vintage pieces from the fashion houses where he worked: Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Jean Patou, Balmain, his own brand and more.</p>

<p>Famous for the yearly fundraising gala that sees celebrities descending from across the planet, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced it will be returning 15 sculptures to India. The decision comes in the backdrop of the New York Supreme Court issuing a search warrant against the museum after it was revealed that notorious smuggler Subhash Kapoor had sold over 77 Indian antiquities to it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a statement, the Metropolitan Museum of Art said it was reviewing its dealings with the 'suspected' dealers and that it had been in touch with the Government of India to 'resolve' the matter.</p>

<p>“The Museum is committed to the responsible acquisition of archaeological art and applies rigorous provenance standards both to new acquisitions and to works long in its collection. The Museum is actively reviewing the history of antiquities from suspect dealers. The Museum values highly its long-standing relationships with the government of India and is pleased to resolve this matter," read the statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Met added it had 'contacted Homeland Security about its works from Kapoor in 2015' and was 'pleased to be acting on this matter as a result of the criminal investigation into Subhash Kapoor by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports, Justice Felicia A. Mennin of the NY Supreme Court last month issued the search warrant against 15 items, supplied by Kapoor to the museum. She had given 10 days to the NY Police Department to seize the artefacts. However,&nbsp;before NYPD could proceed, the Met announced it was handing over the artefacts to their country of origin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The items include an 11th-century sandstone Celestial Dancer (Apsara) from the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, valued north of $1 million and a first-century BCE Yakshi Terracotta from the eastern Indian state of West Bengal amongst others.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ocasio-Cortez is a Democratic is a Democratic Representative from New York and a very visible, vocal member of younger generation of American lawmakers. She had grabbed headlines during her appearance in Met Gala. She wore a white dress with "Tax the rich" written on it in big red letters.</p>

<p>“Rep. Ocasio-Cortez received a series of goods and services which she did not pay for until the OCE opened this review,” according to the report, which cited her dress, makeup, hair styling and transportation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“But for the OCE opening this review, it appears that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez may not have paid for several thousands of dollars’ worth of goods and services provided to her.”</p>

<p>The matter was referred&nbsp;to bipartisan House Committee on Ethics in June in a 5-0 vote by the OCE.</p>
