The franchise has welcomed Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga as their new fast bowling coach and has also onboarded Paddy Upton in a new role of Team Catalyst.

The 38-year-old T20 World Cup-winning captain Malinga, who led his country to the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup trophy, will be working during the upcoming season with the talented group of pacers present within the Royals'&nbsp;set-up.

During a career that spanned over 17 years, the right-arm fast bowler represented Sri Lanka in 340 matches across the three formats and picked up 546 wickets.

In the Indian Premier League, he only represented one team - Mumbai Indians - for whom he grabbed 170 scalps in 122 matches.

Most recently in February 2022, he served as Sri Lanka's Bowling Strategy Coach for their T20I series against Australia.

Speaking on his appointment, Malinga said, "It's a wonderful feeling for me to return to the IPL and an absolute honour to join Rajasthan Royals, a franchise that has always promoted and developed young talent. Being the Team Catalyst, Upton will play a crucial role in establishing team integration by bringing them together as a cohesive and mutually supporting unit and looking after their mental well-being with the use of various mental conditioning processes and activities that aid in maintaining a healthy culture and environment, especially within the restrictions of being in a bio-bubble.

Upton will himself be a part of the bubble for the initial four weeks of the tournament while supporting virtually post the completion of this period.

The South African has previously also worked as the Mental Conditioning Coach for India Men's Team during the successful 2011 ICC World Cup, and as the Performance Director of South Africa Cricket from 2011-2014, guiding South Africa to become the first cricket team to hold the World No.1 ranking in all three formats of the game in 2012.

Meanwhile, like last season, Kumar Sangakkara will be assuming the role of Head Coach during the upcoming season, while being the Director of Cricket at the Royals outside of the season.

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been appointed as the national team`s bowling strategy coach for the Australia tour.

Malinga, in his new short-term role as a specialist coach, will support Sri Lanka`s bowlers, providing tactical insight and technical expertise to help the on-field execution of strategic plans.

"Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of Lasith Malinga, the Sri Lankan fast bowling legend and former captain of the ODI and T20I team, as the `Bowling Strategy Coach` of the National Team for the upcoming Tour of Australia," SLC said in a statement.

"He was appointed by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket in consultation with the Technical Advisory Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket. The appointment is effective from 1st to 20th February 2022," it added.

Sri Lanka Cricket said it is confident that Malinga`s vast experience and renowned death-bowling expertise, especially in the T20 format, will help the team immensely going into this series.

"We have some very talented young bowlers and I am very excited about the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge to help them develop," Malinga commented after his appointment as per an official statement.

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Rumesh Ratnayake has also been appointed as the interim coach of the national side for the upcoming tour of Australia.

The five-match series from February 11-20 will be played across three venues, the Sydney Cricket Ground, Manuka Oval, and Melbourne Cricket Ground.&nbsp;

Harshal, who was traded to RCB from Delhi Capitals ahead of the start of IPL 2021, went on to bag the Purple Cap for taking the highest number of wickets in the season.

Patel scalped an impressive 32 wickets in 15 matches this season including a hat-trick against Mumbai Indians. He bowled at an economy of 8.14 and an average of 14.34 to play an instrumental role in helping Virat Kohli &amp; Co. make it to the playoffs in successive seasons.&nbsp;

He also equalled CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo's record for most wickets by any bowler in a single season of IPL. Bravo, who has won the Purple Cap twice, picked up 32 wickets in the 2013 season. Three days after posting the tournament's highest score of 397-6 against Afghanistan, Morgan's men imploded chasing 233 for victory against another Asian side in a major upset that breathed fresh life into the tournament.
