Some national political party leaders in the Kashmir Valley have welcomed the framing of charges against eight accused, including a Hurriyat leader, in selling MBBS seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The special NIA court has framed charges against eight accused, including a Hurriyat leader, in selling MBBS seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. A case under FIR No.05/2020 was registered in CIK/SIA on July 27, 2020 against unscrupulous persons who were hand in glove with some educational consultancies for arranging admission of J & K residents in MBBS and other professional courses in various colleges, institutions, and universities in Pakistan.

According to the government, a huge amount of money was received in lien of such admission from the parents of the students, and the money so earned was ploughed into supporting terrorism in J&K. It is pertinent to mention that recently, the Govt. of India/MCI issued notifications that professional degrees such as MBBS and other technical courses obtained from Pakistan will not be recognised in India.

The local BJP leaders have welcomed the step. "The first wrong thing is calling them Hurriyat leaders. These people are terrorists, whether Zaffar Akbar Bhat or those who are sitting in Pakistan or absconding. They ran a scam. They always try to damage the integrity of our country. They were funding the stone pelters. The decision and chargesheet are a welcome step. But this is not enough. Their properties should be seized, and the money they took for these seats and how they used the same money in terror activities, "said Altaf Thakur, BJP Spokesperson.

Some political leaders also said that action is finally being taken against those involved in big scams. For the last 30 years, the government of India never took any serious action against them, and for the first time, we are seeing some action being taken by the government. The scam of these medical seats was big, and we appreciate the steps taken by the government of India. We are glad action has been taken. We want severe punishment for these people involved so that no one ever does something like this in the future, "said G N Shaheen, UT President Janta Dal United.

According to the chargesheet, cogent evidence surfaced during the investigation that the money so received was passed on to terrorists, stone pelters, and OGW (s) for unlawful and terrorist activities. It was also revealed that admissions to MBBS and other professional courses in Pakistan were given preferentially to students who were close family members or relatives of killed terrorists, based on recommendations from Hurriyat members and accepted by their Pakistani counterparts.

Authorities in Pakistan granted admission to professional colleges to the next of kin (NOK) of killed terrorists as a compensation to boost morale, keep the pot of terror boiling in the valley, and infuse new spirit into the terror fold, based on Hurriyat recommendations.

Indian Army's outgoing General-Officer-Commanding (GoC) 15 Corps Lt Gen D P Pandey today said that there is a threat to Amarnath Yatra, but countermeasures are in place. He also added that he had joined the ‘philosophy of breaking the cycle of violence in Kashmir’ and had succeeded.

''We hear a number of people talking about the Kashmir problem all the time. I believe it's not a Kashmir problem, but a problem in Kashmir. The wrong terminology if used maligns the land and people of the land and so is true about Kashmir. Although there would be some people who won’t be happy with the peaceful atmosphere, and they will keep on trying new methods to disrupt it. There is hope on the horizon. Many areas are back as economic hubs and Kashmiris are being a part of these opportunities.'' said GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen D P Pandey.

The Indian army GOC also said that while terrorists are being killed in encounters, they are also ensuring that local youth who have joined terror groups are given a chance to surrender. He said over 100 youth were brought back to the mainstream who had gone to join the terror ranks.

The GOC also spoke about the American weapon left in Afghanistan making their way to the Kashmir region. He said ''We have surely found equipment and especially night sights and some other equipment which has got the stamp of foreign make. The numbers are not so much to be alarmed about. Our challenge has been armour piercing bullets which have now been used in the last one year, we have taken adequate measures to counter such challenges. ''

While the situation on the Line of Control is peaceful, the Indian army GoC says that they expected the rise in infiltration attempts after Eid and still are watching the situation.

India: Forces beef up security in the Kashmir valley after terrorists killed in encounter

Kashmir Valley has broken all the previous records of tourist arrivals in the last three months. The valley saw more than 3,40,000 tourist arrivals in the months of January, February and March.

The March month saw the maximum tourist arrivals of 1,80,000 tourists. After years, such a huge number of tourist arrivals have been witnessed in the Kashmir Valley.

The tourist rush pushed the government to increase the number of flights running at Srinagar Airport. Around 92 flights operate daily from Srinagar airport with the passengers numbering around 15,000.

In the last seven days of April, 58,000 tourists have come to the valley. The Tulip Garden was opened in the last week of March and on April 2, more than 50,000 people thronged the garden.

''We had around 60,000 tourists coming in the month of January. In February, it went up to 1,00,000 and in March, we had a record-breaking number of 1,80,000 tourists coming to this place. In the last 7 days of April, we have already had 58,000 tourist arrivals. Around 8,000 arrivals are happening per day. So, in the last three months, it has crossed the 3,00,000 number. It's very encouraging to see our efforts yielding results. We expect more tourists to come in future,'' said Ahsan Ul Haq, Deputy Director, Tourism.

Around 3,00,000 tourists have visited the Tulip Garden so far. The government says looking at the figures, it seems all the previous records of people thronging the garden will be broken. The travel agents in the valley say that all five- and four-star hotels and properties are fully booked for next two months. Even the mid-range hotels are booked till June.

''Tulip Garden was opened recently, and we have had a good season. It started from January and continued through February. All our hotels and houseboats are completely booked, and bookings have been made for the next two months. Kashmir is completely sold out. We have a good flow of tourists now and till June, everything in the valley is booked and we are sure all previous records will be broken,'' said Waseem Gousani, travel agent.

Spring is one of the most beautiful times to visit the valley. The Jammu and Kashmir tourism department organised many spring festivals to attract more and more tourists and prolong the spring season. This year, the department hasn't confined the spring season only for tulips but other gardens as well.

The tourists from across the country are enjoying these beautiful gardens and hill stations of the Kashmir Valley.

''It's very nice and different. People scare you a lot but it's very safe because of the Indian army. It's very secure, I can see a lot of tourists coming here. It's fun. I found a lot of people in Gulmarg. Post covid tourism has increased everywhere. I want to tell everyone to pack your bag and come,'' said Sheryl Louis, a tourist.

The tourists present in the valley said that they are happy to see Kashmir tourism flourishing after so many years. ''It's a beautiful place and I wish many people would come here. It's really a paradise and we only used to see this on TV and Bollywood films. It's worth visiting and experiencing it yourself. It will help local people and they will earn their livelihood. Locals will get a lot of business. Due to covid, they must have lost a lot of business and now, they are recovering. It's like nature is calling us. We have seen people from across India visiting here. We are happy over here and it was fun,'' said Asumita Louis, another tourist.

''It's a dream come true and it's very beautiful. There was no fear. Every place here is beautiful. There is so much tourist rush, we had to be in a queue at Gondola Gulmarg for more than one and a half hours. We went to Pahalgam and Gulmarg. Everyone needs to come here and experience this,'' said Jyoti Mehrotra, another tourist.

The tourist inflow has surprised all the officials, who work with the tourism department. Officials working at the gardens of Srinagar say that they have never seen such a rush.

''This year, all records have been broken. Last Saturday, we saw a huge number of tourists, around 10,000 people visited us that day. Due to Ramadan, we can see locals aren't coming in huge numbers but tourists in huge numbers are still coming. Everyday around 3,000 tourists come to this garden,'' said Khurshid Ahmad, official, Nishat Garden.

The government hopes, the numbers will increase more in the coming months.

Kashmir Valley has broken all the previous records of tourist arrivals in the last three months. The valley saw more than 3,40,000 tourist arrivals in the months of January, February and March.

Tourism in Kashmir breaks all records as 3,40,000 visitors throng valley in 3 months

India's Jammu and Kashmir was recently listed by UNESCO among the creative cities across the world. The valley has immense art and craft like the weaving of silk carpets, paper mache, wood carving, pashmina and sozni. But what the valley lacked was a place where people could experience the making of these handmade products.

Ali Shah took it upon himself to create Valley's first Art and Culture centre where he plans to bridge the gap between the artisans and people.

The centre has been named 'Artisane, Art and Cultural Centre', and is located in the Kunzer area of Baramulla district. A place where people would witness the process of art coming to life. The idea is to make people understand the hard work and passion involved in making these exquisite products.

People who visit the cultural centre would be able to see a live demonstration of hand-made products like kani and pashmina shawls, silk carpets, colourful papier-mache products, minute sozni and embroidery work and carved walnut woodwork.

"The earthen world of Artisane is a mini representation of Kashmir’s rich architectural and craft legacy. The sublime aesthetics of the stone and wood structure which took almost 4 years to complete beholds the idea of Kashmir in each corner. The inspiration to create this cultural centre is to bring a psychological renaissance to the cottage industry and revive the hand-made practices to create craft delights indigenous to Kashmir. It celebrates the authenticity and perseverance of the craftspeople who work arduously to preserve the heritage of the valley," said Mehboob Iqbal Shah, Co-Founder, Artisane, Art and Cultural Centre.

The experts said that 'Artisane' could be a steppingstone and the government of Jammu and Kashmir should create spaces like these. They believe that craft of the valley needs to be showcased as heritage gardens and properties.

"The way we showcase our gardens and heritage properties in the valley, we need to showcase the craft as well. People have to experience the creative demonstration of how every handmade product in the valley is made. Artisane is a very thoughtfully done place, where space is not subservient to the products. The people who visit the cultural centre would first imbibe the space and later look at the products. And I hope the government takes a step like this too so that more such places are available for the people who are interested in Art and Craft of the Valley," said Saleem Beigh, Saleem Beg, former DG of tourism and chairman of Indian National Trust for Arts and Culture Heritage (INTACH) J&K chapter.

Three terror attacks in 24 hours in Kashmir Valley: 1 CRPF jawan dies, four non-locals injured

Braving the harshest winter season on the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir, Indian security forces have been guarding the border facing sub-zero temperatures. And now with the melting of snow on the higher reaches of northern Kashmir, the vigil on the traditional infiltration routes has been increased to foil any infiltration bids.

The security forces have inputs that more than 350 terrorists are waiting across the border in various terror launch pads to cross over to the Kashmir Valley. Security forces also believe that a lot of 'fanatic warriors' from Afghanistan can be sent to Kashmir, but the forces are ready to tackle any such issue. All the high-ranking officers of Army and BSF are making special visits to LoC to take stock of the situation on ground zero.

"After the snow has started to melt on these higher reaches. We have increased the vigil on those areas which are prone to infiltrations. Our sources say that around 125-150 terrorists are waiting across the border to infiltrate. Army and Border Security Force (BSF) have made sure the terrorists are neutralised and situation is very peaceful in the valley. There is a possibility of fanatic warriors trying to infiltrate from across the border," said Raja Babu Singh, Inspector General (IG0, BSF, Kashmir Frontier.

The jawans guarding the border have been given all new technology equipment which include sophisticated weapons, surveillance cameras with night vigil, drones and thermal imaging tracers. The patrolling has also been increased across the LoC.

"We are here guarding the LoC 24/7 for the whole year and there is no chance for infiltration in this area. We won't let any infiltrator cross into our territory. The citizens of the country need to be assured that they are secure," said Dheeraj Singh, a BSF soldier.

The soldiers who have been posted in these higher reaches have been given special training. The area has 8-10 feet of snow in the winters as well as in summers. Oxygen levels on these higher reaches are low. Since it's a densely forested area, the security forces must work much harder to locate infiltrators here.

"We are properly trained for these locations. Higher reaches have low oxygen levels and difficult terrain to move on. But our training is such that we don't find it difficult. We are dominating this area all through the year. You need to be assured that till the time BSF is here on LoC, everyone is secure in the country," said Malik Showkat, BSF Soldier.

During the winter season, LoC witnessed zero infiltrations. The vigil on the borders is so tight that no one has managed to cross over to the Kashmir Valley from across the border in North Kashmir. The security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have also increased the anti-terror operations in which around 40 terrorists have been killed in various encounters in 2022.

Security forces believe that terror organisations across the border are frustrated with the numbers of terrorists in the valley going down and that's why they want to send more. Sources say that terrorists are ready to infiltrate into Kashmir from four terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Each launch pad is suspected to shelter around 125-130 terrorrists.

For the first time ever, Kashmir hosted a Fashion Week on the banks of the famous Dal Lake. India Cult Men’s Fashion Week is showcasing 10 fashion designers from across the country. Various models from Delhi and Mumbai have been flown in for the show as well.

On the lawns of SKICC overlooking Dal Lake, the ramp has been set up in such a way that it looks like fashion is meeting nature. The organisers have been wanting to do a fashion week in Srinagar for a long time.

"We have been in conversation with Adnan for a long time, as we did a show earlier too. We had been planning it for a long time and finally thought the time was right to execute it.
