The deal is focused on releasing Israeli hostages over four days, of which 40 are children and 13 women, Channel 12 reported on Tuesday (Nov 21).

An official confirmation from the Israeli government is awaited.

<h2>Deal needs to get approved by Cabinet&nbsp;</h2>

The temporary deal has to be approved by the Israeli Cabinet in order to go into effect the following day.

There is also a provision whereby the Israeli public can appeal the decision to release specific Palestinian prisoners in those 24 hours.

Channel 12 reported that the hostage deal will include the release of around 150 to 300 Palestinian prisoners in Israel, including female and minor prisoners.

However, it is believed that Israel will not free prisoners convicted of murder.

There is also the possibility of&nbsp;Hamas unilaterally releasing&nbsp;Thai citizens, taking the total of up to 80 hostages freed, Jewish Insider reported citing a diplomatic source.

It has been further reported that Benjamin Netanyahu's government did not accept Qatar’s original terms, which included allowing Gazan civilians to return to the northern Gaza Strip. The IDF will continue fighting in the north after the break.

A report by news agency AFP, citing two sources familiar with the talks, said that the tentative deal includes a five-day truce, consisting of a ceasefire on the ground and limits to Israeli air operations over southern Gaza.

The deal also includes the return of between 50 and 100 hostages&nbsp;–&nbsp;Israeli civilians and captives of other nationalities, but not military personnel&nbsp;–&nbsp;held by Hamas and Islamic Jihad,&nbsp;a separate Palestinian militant group.&nbsp;

If agreed upon, some 300 Palestinians would also be released from Israeli jails, among them women and children.&nbsp;

According to media reports, intense negotiations are underway in Qatar, which is also home to Hamas’ political office,&nbsp;where Haniyeh is based.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden, on Monday (Nov 20) said that he believes that a deal to free some of the hostages in exchange for a ceasefire is close.

“I believe so,” said Biden when asked whether a deal was near during a Thanksgiving ceremony at the White House and went on to cross his fingers to signal he hoped for good luck.

<h2>Hamas leader’s meeting with ICRC chief</h2>

Separately, the Hamas’ leader also met with Mirjana Spoljaric, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Qatar on Monday (Nov 20) to “advance humanitarian issues” related to the conflict, the Geneva-based ICRC said in a statement.&nbsp;

US lawmakers on Tuesday (Nov 21) wrote to billionaire Elon Musk highlighting concerns on how his social media platform X appeared to be benefiting from the premium accounts that glorified violence against Israel.

A group of 27 lawmakers wrote a letter to Musk and X chief executive Linda Yaccarino, expressing concerns citing reports from nonprofit organizations that showcased people with X Premium accounts "glorifying barbaric acts of violence against Israelis."

"These reports demonstrated that X is profiting from the spread of this gruesome and harmful propaganda through account subscription fees and ad revenue," the lawmakers wrote, adding that much of the offensive content remained live despite being flagged by researchers. &nbsp;

The lawmakers further said that X earned profit from the posts both from subscription fees as well as ads displayed in replies to both Premium and regular posts.

"X has financially benefited from the spread of demonstrably false and misleading content as well," the lawmakers wrote.

They also noted that since the US had designated Hamas as a terrorist organization in 1997, it was illegal to intentionally provide material support or resources to the group.

"There is no ambiguity about whether violent videos generated by the group qualify under these policies. These are videos that carry official Hamas branding and iconography," the lawmakers wrote.

<h2>X sues watchdog group Media Matters</h2>

X on Monday (Nov 20) sued nonprofit Media Matters accusing the organisation of defaming the platform after it published a report which said that ads for major brands appeared next to posts hailing Hitler and the Nazi party.&nbsp;

The platform, according to the lawsuit filed in the United States District Court in Texas, alleges that the media non-profit is driving advertisers away by portraying X as full of antisemitic content.

The footage, which showed armed men landing on a ship's deck from a helicopter in the southern Red Sea and seizing it, was released by the movement's TV channel Al Masirah a day after the Iran-backed group seized the ship.

The vessel's owner, as per news agency Reuters, on Monday (Nov 20) said that the cargo ship was "illegally boarded by military personnel via a helicopter" on Sunday, Nov 19 and was at present in the Hodeidah port area in Yemen.

"All communications were subsequently lost with the vessel," the Isle of Man registered Galaxy Maritime Ltd, owner of the pure car carrier Galaxy Leader, said in a statement.

"The company, as a shipping concern, will not be commenting further on the political or geopolitical situation."

The Bahamas-flagged Galaxy Leader's crew comprises nationals from Bulgaria, Ukraine, the Philippines, Mexico and Romania, Galaxy Maritime said. The vessel is chartered by Japan's Nippon Yusen.

"Owners and managers believe the seizure of this vessel represents a gross violation of freedom of passage for the world fleet and a serious threat to international trade," Galaxy Maritime said.

Earlier, Houthis had threatened to target Israeli ships in the Red Sea. Leader Abdul-Malik al-Huthi said that Houthis were monitoring for Israeli vessels in the commercially vital waters, even those that do not have Israeli flags.

"Our eyes are open to constant monitoring and searching for any Israeli ship," he said in a speech broadcast by the rebels' Al-Masirah TV station.&nbsp;

"The enemy relies on camouflage in its movement in the Red Sea, especially in Bab al-Mandab (strait), and did not dare to raise Israeli flags on its ships... and turned off identification devices," he added.

Gaza’s largest hospital, Al-Shifa, has become a “death zone,” said a World Health Organization (WHO)-led humanitarian assessment team which visited the medical facility in northern Gaza, on Sunday (Nov 19). The United Nations health agency also called for “immediate evacuation” of the remaining patients in the hospital as Israel’s army said it was expanding operations to destroy Hamas.

<h2>‘Death zone’</h2>

The assessment came after a WHO-led team, which also included other UN officials like public health experts, logistics officers and security staff, was able to spend around an hour inside the hospital on Saturday due to security concerns, said the UN health agency, in a statement.&nbsp;

“WHO and partners are urgently developing plans for the immediate evacuation of the remaining patients, staff and their families,” said the UN agency, in a statement.&nbsp;

Speaking about the condition of those at Al-Shifa, the UN agency also said that 29 patients at the hospital with serious spinal injuries cannot move without medical assistance while others are suffering from infected wounds due to a lack of antibiotics.

It added, “Over the next 24-72 hours, pending guarantees of safe passage by parties to the conflict, additional missions are being arranged to urgently transport patients” to other hospitals in the south of Gaza.&nbsp;

However, it also warned how nearby facilities were already overstretched and urged an immediate ceasefire given the “extreme suffering of the people of Gaza.”&nbsp;

According to WHO, around&nbsp;2,500 internally displaced people who had sought refuge on Al Shifa grounds were gone after the Israeli forces issued&nbsp;evacuation orders on Saturday.&nbsp;

Hundreds of people fled the hospital on foot on orders from the Israeli army, said the hospital’s director.&nbsp;Israeli forces seized Al Shifa in their offensive across north Gaza last week and also said it found evidence&nbsp;of a Hamas base underground.&nbsp;

An additional 20,000 litres will be allowed every two days for generators of telecom company Paltel which is working to restore telecommunication.

The decision to allow fuel into Gaza is unpopular among some members of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing coalition but there has been intense international pressure following rising civilian death toll and worsening conditions in Gaza Strip.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Israeli war cabinet members on phone on Wednesday and warned them about humanitarian catastrophe stemming from acute shortage of fuel.

In the wake of recent decisions, there have been comments from within Netanyahu government expressing displeasure. Bezalel Smotrich, the finance minister deemed&nbsp;the&nbsp; decision to allow fuel into Gaza a serious mistake.

"It conveys weakness, it gives oxygen into the enemy," he said in a statement.

Israel has been resisting calls to allow fuel into Gaza Strip saying that there was chance that Hamas fighters will seize it and use it for military purposes.

Hamas terrorists had crossed border into southern Israel and launched an attack on October 7 killing 1200 people and abducting more than 200. Israel has since then responded with overwhelming military response with thousands of air raids. Ground attacks were initiated inside Gaza Strip by Israeli tank and troops.

Israel decides to allow more fuel into Gaza than initially agreed

The chief of the United Nations Relief Works Agency for Palestinian refugees in the Near&nbsp;East (UNRWA) said on Thursday (November 16) that there was a 'deliberate attempt' to 'strangle' and 'paralyse' the agency's work in Gaza. He warned that the UNRWA may be forced to fully suspend its work because of lack of fuel.

UNRWA supports more than 800,000 displaced people in the Gaza Strip. It said that many of the services it supported have shut down. These include dozens of water wells, two water plants and sewage pumping stations.

"I do believe there is a deliberate attempt to strangle our operation and paralyse the operation," UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini told journalists in Geneva.

"We run the risk of having to suspend the entire humanitarian operation," he said. "I do believe that it is outrageous that humanitarian agencies have been reduced to begging for fuel."

Lazzarini said that for weeks, the agency has made pleas for fuel, which was carried into Gaza for the first time on Wednesday since the war began.

Lazzarini said that the 24,000 litres of diesel fuel meant for UN aid trucks is inadequate compared to what Gazans need to survive.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that they found the dead body of a 19-year-old Israeli woman soldier, who was taken hostage by Hamas on October 7.

Taking to X on Friday (Nov 17), the IDF stated that soldier's dead body was found next to Shifa Hospital in Gaza Strip. Hamas has been accused by Israel of using civilian buildings like hospitals and schools for creating tunnels, storing weapons and reinforcing shelters.

Many visuals from such structures were released by the IDF to prove that the allegations made against the Hamas were true.

According to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza, more than 11,300 people have died in the Palestinian enclave. The health ministry says these are mostly civilians and the death toll includes thousands of children.

Earlier in the day, PM Netanyahu got into a war of words with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The latter said that the killing of babies must stop in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas

“I urge the government of Israel to exercise maximum restraint. The world is watching, on TV, on social media - we’re hearing the testimonies of doctors, family members, survivors, kids who have lost their parents,” the Canadian PM told a news conference in the western province of British Columbia.

He added, “The world is witnessing this killing of women, of children, of babies. This has to stop.”&nbsp;

Woman kidnapped by Hamas gave birth in captivity, says Israel PMO

A Japanese man, aged around 50, was arrested on Thursday (Nov 16) after crashing a car into a barricade near the entrance of the Israeli embassy in Tokyo, police said,&nbsp;amid global tensions over the Israel-Hamas war.

Mor Eliyahu, a spokeswoman for the Israeli embassy, said that the incident "is suspected to be a targeted vehicle ramming attack, and it is currently under investigation by local police", as per news agency AFP.

However, the police did not comment on the possible intentions of the unemployed resident who drove his car through the barricade into a fence at an intersection around 100 metres from the embassy.

As per the local media reports, a police officer sustained slight injuries in the crash.

"At around 10:55 am, the suspect, driving a minicar, suddenly turned to the left and rammed into a male police officer in his 20s who was patrolling for the Israeli embassy," news agency AFP quoted a police spokesperson as saying.

A fire department spokesperson said only that they received an emergency call and gave no further details.

"Around 11:00 am, I heard a huge bang, so I went outside to check out. Then I saw a policeman injured and in pain near the traffic barrier and it looked like he was bleeding. There was also a black car parked nearby," a restaurant employee working nearby told public broadcaster NHK.

“Police assisted in controlling and dispersing the crowd, while the Prime Minister was escorted out of the restaurant,” it added. The police&nbsp;also said that they arrested a 27-year-old man for&nbsp;obstruction and punching a female officer in the face.&nbsp;

Vancouver police Sergeant Steve Addison told a news conference that “the actions of the protesters, such as blocking the lane behind the restaurant caused a concern.”

This recent incident also came after Trudeau was heckled at another restaurant owned by celebrity chef Vikram Vij in a different part of the city where a video showed a handful of protesters entering the restaurant and shouting at the prime minister to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed his Canadian counterpart after the latter said the “killing of women, of children, of babies” in the besieged Gaza Strip must end.&nbsp;

Subsequently, Netanyahu, addressing Trudeau in a social media post, said “the forces of civilization must back Israel in defeating Hamas barbarism.”

<h2>What do we know about the deal?</h2>

According to the Reuters report, the deal under discussion and coordinated with the United States would see Israel release some Palestinian women and children from Israeli jails and increase the amount of humanitarian aid allowed into Gaza.&nbsp;

While both Israel and its biggest supporter, the US, have rejected the growing calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, Washington has recently urged Israel to consider pauses in fighting amid the mounting death toll and deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave.&nbsp;

The Qatari-led negotiations have changed significantly in recent weeks but this is the first time that there have been talks of releasing 50 civilian prisoners in exchange for a three-day truce and that Hamas agreed to an outline of the deal.&nbsp;

The deal in question would also require the Palestinian militant group to hand over a complete list of remaining living civilian hostages held in Gaza. The official also told Reuters that a more comprehensive release of all hostages is not currently under discussion.&nbsp;

Ezzat El Rashq, a member of the Hamas political bureau when asked by Reuters about the negotiations on Wednesday (Nov 15) did not directly confirm the deal or discussion.&nbsp;

Israel “is still refusing and delaying the release of 50 women and children captives and a true humanitarian truce, in exchange for the release of a number of women and children from our people in the occupation prisons and getting relief and humanitarian aid to all areas in the Gaza Strip,” said the Hamas official.&nbsp;

<h2>Israel will not stop till ‘we achieve our goals’: Gantz</h2>

During a press conference on Wednesday, Israeli Minister Benny Gantz, who is also a part of Israel’s war cabinet, said, “Even if we are required to pause fighting in order to return our hostages, there will be no stopping the combat and the war until we achieve our goals.”

Notably, Hamas’ armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, earlier this week said that it had told Qatari negotiators it was willing to release up to 70 women and children in return for a five-day truce.&nbsp;

The next day Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said they were “working relentlessly for the release of the hostages.” According to Israeli officials, Hamas has taken around 240 hostages after its October 7 attacks on southern Israel.&nbsp;

"The adoption by the White House and the Pentagon of the occupation's false claim that the resistance is using the Al-Shifa medical complex for military ends has given the green light to the occupation to commit more massacres against civilians."

Israel has been consistently saying that Hamas was using hospitals in Gaza as hideouts for its fighters as attacking hospitals would be against international law and the militants would get possible protection against military bombardment. Hamas has been consistently denying this but White House' assertion on November 14 appeared to substantiate Israel's claim.

Israel on Saturday (Nov 11) said that it had killed a Hamas commander who had held nearly 1,000 Gazan residents hostage and was blocking their evacuation.

"IDF aircraft just struck Ahmed Siam, responsible for holding approximately 1,000 Gazan residents and patients hostage at the Rantisi Hospital, and preventing their evacuation southward," the Israeli Defence Forces said in a statement.

It further said that Siam along with other militants was hiding at "al Buraq" school.

The Palestinian officials on Friday (Nov 10) told news agency Reuters that at least 25 Palestinians lost their lives in an Israeli strike at the school, which was packed with evacuees.

<h2>'Patients at risk'</h2>

Palestinian Health Minister Mai al Kaila said that the Al Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip, which is the war-torn region's biggest hospital, is under threat as it lacks oxygen, electricity, and fuel.&nbsp;

While addressing a press conference, al Kaila said, "Last night,&nbsp;Al Shifa hospital was air struck by, according to what they told us, white phosphorus and as you might know that this is a type of weapon that is not permitted on an international level, and last night it was air struck with phosphorus, the hospital of Al Shifa."

She further said that the Israeli forces were threatening the hospital's medical staff to leave, as well as threatening to airstrike now and then. In a separate statement, the Palestinian health minister said that 39 babies were at risk in the hospital and one baby had died.&nbsp;

The Israeli military called for an immediate evacuation of hospitals in Gaza stating that the Hamas gunmen were systematically exploiting hospitals as part of their assault.

"The hospitals need to be evacuated in order to deal with Hamas. We intend on dealing with Hamas who have turned hospitals into fortified positions," the Israeli military said when asked if it planned to enter Gaza hospitals at some point.

Hamas has repeatedly rebuffed these claims by Israel and has asked the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to send missions to Shifa to probe the allegations.

This comes amid concerns of another front opening in the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, as skirmishes along the Israel-Lebanon also steadily escalated since the beginning of the war on October 7.&nbsp;

In another attack also attributed to the Lebanon-based group, the IDF reported that seven soldiers were wounded by a mortar near the northern community of Menara.&nbsp;

<h2>About those injured</h2>

At least 14 civilians were wounded, including one in serious condition, and the rest were lightly hurt, according to Israeli media reports citing medical officials. This comes after several vehicles near the northern Israeli&nbsp;community of Dovev were hit in the missile strike, the responsibility for which was later claimed by Hezbollah.&nbsp;

The victims included Israel Electric Corporation employees who were in the area to fix the power lines damaged by a previous strike from Lebanon. However, Hezbollah, while claiming responsibility for the attack, in its statement said it attacked soldiers installing surveillance equipment.&nbsp;

Speaking about the incident in Menara, the IDF said seven soldiers were lightly wounded and taken to hospital.

There had been multiple sporadic clashes throughout the day between Hezbollah and Israel on Sunday. The IDF also reported that two more cells launched mortars from Lebanon at areas near the communities of Menara and Yir’on.&nbsp;

Additionally, rocket sirens were sounded in a number of northern Israeli towns, but there was no immediate report of damage or casualties.&nbsp;

According to the IDF, some 15 rockets were fired from Lebanon at northern Israel out of which four were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system and others landed in open areas causing no injuries or damage.&nbsp;

The clashes also took place a day after a televised speech by Hezbollah’s chief, Hassan Nasrallah who said that the group is using new weapons including attack drones “for the first time in the history of the resistance” in Lebanon.

The remarks prompted a response from Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant who said, “If it (Hezbollah) makes this kind of mistake here, the ones who will pay the price will be first and foremost Lebanese citizens.”&nbsp;

“What we’re doing in Gaza, we can also do in Beirut,” Gallant told soldiers on Israel’s northern border, according to his office.&nbsp;

Israel revises estimate of October 7 Hamas attack death toll from 1,400 to ‘around 1,200’

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on Saturday (Nov 11) warned Lebanon's Hezbollah not to escalate the conflict along the border.

"Hezbollah is dragging Lebanon into a war that might happen," Gallant told troops in a video aired by Israeli television channels. "It is making mistakes and ... those who will pay the price are first and foremost Lebanon's citizens. What we are doing in Gaza we can do in Beirut."

Gallant's warning came after Hezbollah&nbsp;chief Hassan Nasrallah said that his group was deploying new types of weapons to hit targets in Israel further affirming that the front in the south against its foe would remain active.

Nasrallah said on Saturday there had been "an upgrade" in Hezbollah's operations along its front with Israel.&nbsp;

"There has been a quantitative improvement in the number of operations, the size and the number of targets, as well as an increase in the type of weapons," he said in a televised address.

Further elucidating on one of the weapons, Nasrallah said that this was the very first time the group deployed weaponised drones in the offensive.

"For the first time in the history of the resistance in Lebanon, we have used attack drones," he said.

As calls for ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war get stronger, a prominent political voice in global politics has called on Israel to stop bombing in Gaza. In an interview to BBC, French President Emmanuel Macron has asked Israel to stop its bombing campaign in Gaza Strip.

While Macron agreed that Israel has the&nbsp;right to defend itself after the October 7 Hamas terror attack, he added, "These babies, these ladies, these old people are bombed and killed."

Israel on Friday revised the&nbsp;death toll estimate from the Hamas terror&nbsp;attack from 1400 to 1200.

Macron said during the interview that France "clearly condemns" the October 7 Hamas terror attack.

On October 7, Hamas terrorists had crossed border from Gaza Strip and launched a barbaric attack inside Israel. In addition to killing 1200 people, Hamas terrorists&nbsp;also took away 240 people, including women, elderly and children, as&nbsp;hostages.

Israel since then has given an overwhelming military response. Israeli planes have bombarded Hamas establishments in Gaza Strip with hundreds of air-raids. A ground assault into Gaza has also been launched with deployment of troops and tanks.

The Hamas-run health ministry in the Gaza Strip claims&nbsp;that the death toll in the enclave has crossed 11,000 mark.

"We do share [Israel's] pain. And we do share their willingness to get rid of terrorism," Macron told BBC. He gave the interview on the fringes of a peace forum in Paris.

"We know what terrorism means in France," he said. But added that bombing of civilians had no justification.

"It's extremely important for all of us because of our principles, because we are democracies. It's important for the mid-to-long run as well for the security of Israel itself, to recognise that all lives matter," he said further.

French President Emmanuel Macron asks Israel to stop bombing Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday (Nov&nbsp;9) that Israel is not looking to occupy and govern&nbsp;Gaza. However, he added that a 'credible force' was necessary to respond to militant threats emanating from Gaza.

Netanyahu's fresh comments come just days after his previous one when he said that Israel would assume responsibility for security in Gaza for an 'indefinite period'. These comments had attracted US displeasure. The US is the biggest backer of Israel globally.

"We don't seek to conquer Gaza, we don't seek to occupy Gaza, and we don't seek to govern Gaza," Netanyahu told US media outlet Fox News.

He added that a civilian government needs to look after affairs in Gaza and Israel would make sure that an attack like the one that took place on October 7 doesn't happen again. For this, he said a 'credible force' will have to be maintained.

"So, we have to have a credible force that, if necessary, will enter Gaza and kill the killers. Because that's what will prevent the reemergence of a Hamas-like entity," Netanyahu said.
