The around one-minute clip shows Secretary of State Antony Blinken speaking during a congressional hearing when a pro-Palestinian demonstrator stood up on the chair and denounced American officials for backing what they called “genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza.&nbsp;

The hearing was reportedly interrupted multiple times. In the clip, the&nbsp;woman was heard yelling at the officials, saying&nbsp;“Not even one Senator is calling for a ceasefire. Shame on you all,” before being escorted out of the chamber by a police officer.&nbsp;

Subsequently, a number of protesters sitting in the room raised their hands painted red with messages like “Free Gaza”. The police took all the protesters out of the hall.&nbsp;

So far, the US has not backed the calls for a ceasefire in Gaza. However, on Monday, the White House said that they do support calls for humanitarian “pauses” in fighting to get aid into Gaza.&nbsp;

“We do not believe that a ceasefire is the right answer right now,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters. He added, “We do not support a ceasefire at this time.”

<h2>What was the hearing about?</h2>

Two of Biden’s top advisers – Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin – were testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Biden’s request for $106 billion to fund ambitious plans for Ukraine, Israel and US border security.&nbsp;

As per news agency AFP reports, the US president asked for $61 billion in military aid for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel.&nbsp;

Blinken and Austin argued that supporting American partners is vital to national security. Of the requested $61.4 billion for Ukraine, about half&nbsp;would be spent in the United States to replenish weapons stocks drained by previous support for Kyiv.

The package also includes $7 billion for resisting China and bolstering allies in the Asia-Pacific region, and over $9 billion for humanitarian assistance for Gaza, Ukraine and Israel.

In the latest development from the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian group has said that in the coming days, it would release some of the foreign hostages that it took captive during its unprecedented onslaught on Oct&nbsp;7.

Hamas's armed wing on Tuesday (Oct 31) said that it would free "a certain number of foreigners" as it vowed to turn Gaza into a graveyard for the Israeli army.

"We have informed intermediaries that we will release a certain number of foreigners in the next few days," Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, said in a televised address.

"Gaza will be a graveyard and a quagmire for the enemy, its soldiers and its political and military leadership," said Obeida.

Reportedly, at the moment, Hamas has held approximately 240 hostages in Gaza after the militant group launched a surprise attack against Israel on Oct 7 prompting a fierce ground offensive by Israeli defence forces.

"The price to pay for the large number of enemy hostages in our hands is to empty the (Israeli) prisons of all Palestinian prisoners," Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Obeida said in a statement broadcast by the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa television channel.

"If the enemy wants to close this file of detainees in one go, we are ready for it. If it wants to do it step-by-step, we are ready for that too."

In a press briefing on Saturday (Oct 28), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while not making any commitment to the exchange deal, vowed to "exhaust every option to bring them (the hostages) home".&nbsp;

The Bolivian government “has decided to break diplomatic relations with the Israeli state in repudiation and condemnation of the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive taking place in the Gaza Strip,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani during a press conference.&nbsp;

Bolivia has also called for a ceasefire and an end to “the blockade that prevents the entry of food, water and other essential elements for life,” Mamani added.&nbsp;

She also said that Bolivia demands an end to the attacks&nbsp;in Gaza which have “caused thousands of civilian deaths and the forced displacement of Palestinians.”&nbsp;

<h2>Not the first time</h2>

The government of leftist President Luis Arce is the first in Latin America to cut ties with Israel. However, this is not the first time that Bolivia has cut ties with Israel over its actions in Gaza.&nbsp;

In 2009, Bolivia under the government of leftist President Evo Morales, cut diplomatic ties with Israel in protest of its actions in Gaza. It was not until 2020, the government of right-wing interim President Jeanine Anez, that the country re-established ties with Israel.&nbsp;

The announcement on Tuesday also comes a day after Arce met with the Palestinian ambassador to Bolivia. “We reject the war crimes being committed in Gaza. We support international initiatives to guarantee humanitarian aid, in compliance with international law,” said the Bolivian president.

Bolivia cuts diplomatic ties with Israel for ‘crimes against humanity’; Chile recalls ambassador

Japanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday (October 31) that sanctions have been imposed on individuals and a company that is connected to the Gaza-based militant group Hamas. The sanctions include freezing of assets of the company and individuals who have helped fund Hamas. The ministry said that the sanctions are in line with new sanctions announced by the United States this month.

This is the first set of sanctions Japan imposed on Hamas since the militant group crossed the border and attacked Israel on October 7.

Japan has added Muhammad Ahmad 'Abd Al-Dayim Nasrallah and Ayman Nofal to the list of people and organisations it considers terrorists.

The Israel-Hamas war continues to rage with no sign of stoppage in fighting. On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ruled out any ceasefire. He said that a ceasefire "will not happen". His comments came close on the heels of a United Nations warning that adequate aid was not reaching the Gaza Strip to meet "unprecedented humanitarian needs".

The Hamas-controlled health ministry in the enclave says that more than 8,300 Palestinians have been killed so far.

Hamas fighters crossed the border and staged attacks in&nbsp;Israel on October 7, killing and kidnapping Israelis. The latter has responded with overwhelming military action.

Netanyahu likened a ceasefire to "surrender" to Hamas.

"Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism... this will not happen," he said, vowing Israel would "fight until this battle is won".

Though UNGA has already passed such a resolution, it is not binding. A resolution passed by the UNSC, however, will compel action on the ground.

Japan slaps sanctions on individuals, company with ties to Hamas

So said US president Joe Biden at a meeting of the Israeli war cabinet when he visited the country twelve days after the country was shaken to its core when militants from Hamas broke through the wall that separates Israel and Gaza and murdered 1,400 people in a series of massacres of savage brutality.

Even for a president whose deep affinity with Israel goes back decades, it was an unusual assertion to make to a roomful of generals and officials as the Israeli air force bombed buildings in Gaza City and levelled entire neighbourhoods in raids human rights groups denounced as collective punishment.

Demands ranged from a ceasefire to an end of Israel’s occupation of land it seized in 1967 after winning a war against a coalition of Arab states.&nbsp;

There is no accurate way to measure this but judging from television images of protesting crowds, Israel may be making progress militarily but it is losing the war for public opinion, thanks to a flood of horrific images from overcrowded Gaza hospitals where many of the patients are badly wounded children, bloodied and terrified.

Back in Washington, the self-declared Zionist president is facing criticism from prominent members of his own Democratic Party about the way Israel is conducting the second phase of its offensive, involving tanks and ground troops.&nbsp;

A statement from 25 Senators stressed the urgent need to get fuel into Gaza so hospitals and water pumping stations can function. The question “what next”? if Israel succeeds in wiping out Hamas, which runs the government in Gaza, is often asked but yields no convincing response either from Washington or Tel Aviv.

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy reflected the fears of many when he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “It feels pretty likely that &nbsp;a long, open-ended Israeli operation – like our disastrous campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan – that cuts of fuel and water and internet and results in widespread civilian harm will create as many Hamas militants as it eliminates.”

One of Biden’s most loyal supporters, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said in a television interview, that she feared Biden’s attitude on the war could hurt him politically and was out of sync with a considerable segment of the voting population.

“They support the right for Israel to defend itself, to exist,” she said. “But they do not support a war crime exchanged for another war crime.”

This is not a lone voice. A Gallup poll conducted over three weeks in October indicated, as the company put it, that “Democrats’ approval of Biden fell sharply in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks by Hamas and Biden’s promise of full support for Israel on the same day.”

A series of recent polls have shown that America’s unwavering support for Israel is unpopular with voters under 35. Last week, students at dozens of colleges walked out of class as part of a nationwide effort to promote changes in Middle East policy by the group Students for Justice in Palestine.

But support for Israel continues where it counts most: On October 30, the Republican-dominated House of Representatives proposed a $14.3 billion aid package for Israel.

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan pinned a yellow star&nbsp;on his chest during a meeting of the Security Council.

Erdan and his fellow delegates pinned yellow coloured star badges on their jackets with the words "Never Again" written on them, during a debate on Monday (Oct 30) about the counter-offensive launched by Israel against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in retaliation to the militant group's deadly onslaught on Oct 7.

Erdan, while denouncing the Security Council for "staying silent" over the unprecedented attacks by Palestinian militant group Hamas said, "Some of you have learned nothing in the past 80 years. Some of you have forgotten why this body was established."

"So, I will remind you. From this day on, each time you look at me you will remember what staying silent in the face of evil means," the ambassador said.

"Just like my grandparents, and the grandparents of millions of Jews, from now on my team and I will wear yellow stars," he said and stood up to pin the star.

He then said the stars were "a symbol of pride, a reminder that we swore to fight back to defend ourselves".

<h2>Why yellow-coloured stars?</h2>

The Nazis compelled Jews in Germany and other European countries, that it had occupied during World War II, to pin yellow stars onto their attire as part of a programme of persecution that peaked in the Holocaust. Nearly six million Jews were murdered in it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called Hamas' deadly Oct 7 onslaught the most alarming against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Other leaders too have drawn direct comparisons between Nazi persecution of the Jews and Hamas' surprise attack on Israel which claimed the lives of approximately 1,400 people, mostly civilians.

However, Erdan's move also drew some criticism.&nbsp; 
 
Denouncing Erdan's move to display the yellow stars, the chairman of Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center on Tuesday (Oct 31) said that the act dishonoured victims of the genocide as well as the State of Israel.

"The yellow patch symbolises the helplessness of the Jewish people and being at the mercy of others," he said on social media platform X.

Video | Israeli UN delegates wear yellow stars as 'symbol of pride', invite criticism

Hundreds of protesters stormed an airport in southwestern Russia while chanting anti-Israeli slogans on Sunday night (Oct 29). The protesters were looking for Jewish passengers on a flight which had departed from Tel Aviv. 
 
The airport, which is located in the city of Makhachkala in the Republic of Dagestan, had to be closed down after the protesters flooded the runway, as per Russian aviation authority Rosaviatsia. Rosaviatsia had reported that all aircraft, which were flying towards Makhachkala, had to be diverted.

Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation reported that few Israelis and Jews were "isolated" during the protests at the airport. The protesters were heard yelling "Allahu Akbar" and anti-Semitic slogans. 
 
The passengers were hustled back by the airline employees inside the planes as the mob approached the aeroplane. On Sunday evening, Makhachkala airport was closed by Russia because of the “intruders” at the airport. 
 
“This is your captain,” said one announcement. “There’s an angry mob outside that doesn’t know where we’ve come from and why [we are here]. It’s possible we’ll also come under attack,” he added.

Russian interior ministry on Monday (Oct 30) said that they have arrested 60 people so far in the incident.&nbsp;"More than 150 active participants in the unrest have been identified, 60 of them have been arrested," said the ministry&nbsp;in a statement.

<h2>Israel says working towards protecting Israelis</h2>

Speaking to Reuters, the foreign ministry in Jerusalem said that an Israeli ambassador in Russia was working along with the authorities for the protection of the Israelis present in the region. 
 
"The State of Israel views gravely attempts to harm Israelis citizens and Jews anywhere," the statement said. 
 
"Israel expects the Russian law enforcement authorities to safeguard all Israeli citizens and Jews, whoever they may be, and to take robust action against the rioters and against the unbridled incitement being directed at Jews and Israelis,” it added. 
 
The majority of people in Dagestan are Muslim. The riots seemed to have been inspired by multiple posts on the social media platform Telegram, where followers were told that a flight from Tel Aviv would be arriving in the evening and would have refugees from Israel. The rioters held some of the signs, which read, “We are against Jewish refugees”. 
 
Head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov said that the riots took place because of external factors, including&nbsp;"fakes spread by our enemies”. 
 
The aviation authority of Russia said that all “unauthorised citizens” were removed from the airport, while video clips which were shared on social media platforms showed police arresting some protesters.

Speaking to the Podyom news outlet, a government representative of the local Jewish community said, “The situation is very difficult in Dagestan. People from the community are afraid, they call, and I do not know what to advise. Is it worth leaving? Because Russia is not our salvation. There were pogroms in Russia too. It is unclear where to run.”

<h2>Russian Jews facing threats?</h2>

Meanwhile, speaking to Fox News Digital, foreign affairs expert Rebekah Koffler said the situation "could be a big problem for Putin" if they fail to contain the protests. 
 
"It is terrifying to think what could be happening to Russian Jews again. For 20 years, Putin has pursued largely pro-Jewish, pro-Israel policies. If he doesn’t do it right, this will spill over and destabilise Muslim-populated regions in Russia and may even spark terrorism in bigger cities again," Koffler said. 
 
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, condemning the riots, said that they were "appalling”. "This is not an isolated incident in Makhachkala, but rather part of Russia’s widespread culture of hatred toward other nations, which is propagated by state television, pundits, and authorities," he said on X, formerly known as Twitter. 
 
"The Russian foreign minister has made a series of antisemitic remarks in the last year. The Russian President also used antisemitic slurs. For Russian propaganda talking heads on official television, hate rhetoric is routine. Even the most recent Middle East escalation prompted antisemitic statements from Russian ideologists,” the Ukrainian leader said.

On Sunday, the Jawwal Telecommunication Company also stated that its telecommunication services were "gradually being restored." 
 
However, Qatari-owned telecommunications company Ooredoo, which has also been providing cellular service in Gaza, did not give any update on the services getting resumed.

The phone and internet access was snapped across the Gaza Strip since Friday, as the territory was bombarded by Israel. A massive bombing campaign was unleashed by Israel after Hamas gunmen entered Israel through the Gaza border on October 7, in which 1,400 people were killed, mostly civilians, and 230 hostages were seized, as per Israeli officials.

"Civilians in northern Gaza and Gaza City should temporarily move south of Wadi Gaza to a safer area where they can receive water, food and medicine," said IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari, in a statement recorded on Saturday (Oct 28). 
 
"Tomorrow, the humanitarian efforts to Gaza, led by Egypt and the United States, will be expanding," he said.

Internet connectivity getting 'restored' in Gaza Strip: Internet monitors

Qatar-mediated negotiations between Israel and Hamas aimed at de-escalating fighting in Gaza continued on Saturday, a source briefed on the negotiations said, even as Israel intensified its assault on the enclave.

Talks have not broken down, but are taking place at a "much slower pace" than before the escalation from Friday evening, the source told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of negotiations.

Gaza's besieged people had barely any communication with the outside world on Saturday as Israeli jets dropped more bombs on the Hamas-ruled Palestinian enclave and military chiefs said a long-threatened ground offensive was gearing up.

Qatar's mediation last week led to the release of two American hostages, a mother and daughter, and two elderly Israeli women.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that efforts to secure the hostages' release will continue even during the Gaza ground offensive.

"We will utilise and exhaust every possibility to bring them home," Netanyahu said.

Israel unleashed its bombing campaign after Hamas gunmen stormed across the Gaza border on October 7, killing 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and seizing more than 220 hostages, according to Israeli officials.&nbsp;

The health ministry in the Hamas-run Gaza said Israeli strikes had killed 7,703 people, mainly civilians, including more than 3,500 children.&nbsp;

The UN rights chief also condemned the Internet and telecommunications blackout that has hit the Palestinian enclave since Friday.&nbsp;

"Compounding the misery and suffering of civilians, Israeli strikes on telecommunications installations and subsequent Internet shutdown have effectively left Gazans with no way of knowing what is happening across Gaza and cut them off from the outside world," he said.&nbsp;

"Ambulances and civil defence teams are no longer able to locate the injured, or the thousands of people estimated to be still under the rubble.&nbsp;

"When these hostilities end, those who have survived will face the rubble of their homes and the graves of their family members," Turk said.&nbsp;

He called on all parties "to do all in their power to de-escalate the conflict".&nbsp;

The conflict is the fifth and deadliest in Gaza since Israel unilaterally withdrew from the Palestinian territory in 2005.&nbsp;

The latest Israeli strikes against Hamas, the Islamist group that has ruled Gaza since 2007, were the most intense since the war broke out. They coincided with ground operations.&nbsp;

"We are very attentive to this list and will process it carefully because we consider Russia to be the closest friend," he said. &nbsp;

"About the peaceful citizens that were taken and that are now in Gaza, we treat them as guests."&nbsp;

"If Gaza is destroyed and 2 million inhabitants are expelled, as some politicians in Israel and abroad propose, this will create a catastrophe for many decades, if not centuries," warned Lavrov.

"It is necessary to stop, and to announce humanitarian programmes to save the population under blockade."

Lavrov also said that Russia was in close contact with Israel too.

"We remain in full contact with Israel, and our ambassador is regularly in touch with them," said Lavrov.

"We are sending signals about the need to seek a peaceful solution and not to follow through with this announced 'scorched earth' strategy."&nbsp;

“The Saudi leadership was hopeful that a ground operation could be avoided for reasons of stability as well as the loss of life,” said Blumenthal, while speaking to The New York Times on Thursday (Oct 26). The government officials of Saudi Arabia that it would be “extremely harmful”, he said.

Israel's ground invasion of Gaza can turn catastrophic, Saudi Arabia warns US

The United Nations General Assembly, on Friday (Oct 27) overwhelmingly voted in favour of the Jordanian resolution which called for an immediate humanitarian truce between Israel and the Palestinian terror group Hamas. The resolution also demands “continuous, sufficient and unhindered” provisions to supply aid to Gaza and protection of civilians.&nbsp;

On the other hand, the resolution proposed by Canada and backed by 35 member states, including the United States which sought condemnation of Hamas and its attacks on southern Israel on October 7, failed to garner enough votes.&nbsp;

This comes after the UNGA and the Security Council failed four times to pass a resolution to take action in Gaza over the past two weeks.&nbsp;

<h2>What do the two resolutions say?</h2>

The resolution proposed by Canada, the first one to be voted on, said that it “unequivocally rejects and condemns the terrorist attacks by Hamas” in Israel, including the taking of more than 200 hostages.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Jordanian resolution, which was backed by 40 member states, called for an “immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce”. It also demanded compliance with international humanitarian law amid the ongoing war as well as provisions to supply aid to Gaza.&nbsp;

The Jordan-authored resolution also called for the “immediate and unconditional release” of all civilians held captive. However, the resolution did not mention Hamas’ attacks on southern Israel.&nbsp;

While these resolutions are not binding or represent the official position of the UNGA until adopted they hold political weight. This comes as the pressure on Israel has been ramped up in recent days after it said that it would launch a “ground operation” in Gaza.

<h2>What happened?</h2>

The Canada-led resolution failed after managing to garner enough votes with 88 nations in favour, 55 against, and 23 nations abstaining. On the other hand, the Jordanian resolution was adopted by the UNGA with 120 votes in favour, 14 against and 45 abstentions.

General Assembly&nbsp;stressed on the “importance of preventing further destabilization and escalation of violence in the region”, urging “all parties to exercise maximum restraint and upon all those with influence on them to work toward this objective.”

This comes amid fears that the war between Israel and Hamas could expand to the rest of the region. It has also called on Israel to cancel its order to civilians in northern Gaza – as many as 1.1 million people – to move to the south of the Palestinian territory.&nbsp;

The General Assembly “firmly rejects any attempts at the forced transfer of the Palestinian civilian population,” the resolution said. It also called for the “immediate and unconditional release of all civilians who are being illegally held captive,” but did not mention Hamas anywhere in the text.&nbsp;

<h2>Israel slams ‘ridiculous’ resolution</h2>

Gilad Erdan, Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, reiterated the country’s right to defend itself and slammed the resolution which does not mention Hamas’ attacks which was one of the worst ones that Israel has witnessed in its 75-year-old history.

“This ridiculous resolution has the audacity to call for a truce, the goal for this resolution’s truce is that Israel should cease to defend itself, so Hamas can light us on fire,” said Erdan. “Why are you defending murderers? Why are you defending terrorists…? What is going on here?”&nbsp;

He also said that Israel is “closely monitoring” the humanitarian situation in Gaza, “and we know that there is no humanitarian crisis in accordance with humanitarian law trusting the reports coming out of is exactly like trusting reports from ISIS,” referring to the Islamic State militant group.&nbsp;

<h2>Hamas, Palestinian Authority welcome decision</h2>

Hamas and the Palestinian Authority welcomed the adoption of the Jordanian resolution. “We demand its immediate application to allow the entry of fuel and humanitarian aid for civilians,” said the Palestinian militant group in a statement.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority Israel’s campaign against the Palestinian people “reaches a new peak of brutality,” there was “a solid international position rejecting Israel's unhinged aggression”.

UN adopts resolution calling for ‘humanitarian truce’ between Israel and Hamas. Here's what happened

As the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza rages on, hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets in the occupied West Bank’s Ramallah, on Friday (Oct 27) to express support for the militant group. Meanwhile, in Jerusalem, Israeli security forces restricted young Palestinians from entering the Al-Aqsa mosque for prayers and deployed personnel in strength in a bid to quell any unrest spilling over from the war in Gaza.&nbsp;

<h2>What happened in West Bank?</h2>

According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, Israeli troops killed four Palestinians during a dawn raid in the north of the occupied West Bank. Two of those killed were identified as members of Hamas.

The protests in the West Bank were said to have started just hours after the raid. At least three Palestinians were also killed in “violent clashes” in the city of Jenin during an incursion by “a large contingent” of Israeli forces, reported Wafa.

Around a dozen people were injured during the skirmishes, claimed a Palestinian news agency report. Protests also erupted in Hebron in the West Bank, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

The continued Israeli raids as well as alleged attacks by the settlers in the West Bank have sparked protests and unrest for months now, but the situation has worsened since Hamas launched its surprise attack on southern Israel from Gaza on October 7.&nbsp;

According to the Israeli military, their personnel came under attack during arrest operations in the city of Jenin and fired back, killing two men.&nbsp;

Subsequently, the Islamic Jihad group confirmed one of them belonged to it and Hamas, in a separate statement, confirmed that one of their fighters was killed in Jenin.&nbsp;

The death toll due to the violence in the West Bank since the beginning of the war now stands at 110, reported Wafa.&nbsp;

<h2>What happened in Jerusalem?</h2>

Israeli security forces stopped young Palestinians from entering Al-Aqsa mosque, a contested site which has been at the centre of many deadly clashes and fights between Israelis and Palestinians over the years.&nbsp;

According to a Reuters journalist, a large number of Israeli police kept guard around Al-Aqsa as Palestinians gathered for Friday prayers and at one point they fired tear gas.&nbsp;

This was the third week in a row that Palestinians were restricted from praying at the mosque following the Hamas assault on southern Israel.&nbsp;

Palestinians were reportedly made to say prayers outside the Old City, gathering by roadsides while Israeli security forces watched. However, eventually, about 5,000 elderly worshippers were allowed into Al-Aqsa mosque.&nbsp;

According to the Jerusalem Islamic Endowments Department, which is in charge of the mosque, said that normally about 50,000 would take part.&nbsp;

"If this issue is ignored, I will not hesitate to take a very firm approach and stance," the minister said in a post.

Fahmi further said that many parties had called on the government to take stern measures against social media platforms for allegedly blocking pro-Palestinian content.&nbsp;

"Our policies are designed to keep people safe on our apps while giving everyone a voice," the spokesperson said on Thursday as per news agency Reuters.

Fahmi said that his country had a right to freedom of speech regarding the Palestinian cause, further reiterating that the right would not be taken away.

TikTok rejects Malaysian allegations claiming it restricts pro-Palestinian content on platform

Israel on Friday (Oct 27) accused the Palestinian militant group Hamas of abusing hospitals in the Gaza Strip for military purposes as the conflict in and around the Palestinian territory intensifies.

The Israeli military said that Hamas was using the hospital as a shield for its tunnels and operational centres.

"Hamas has turned hospitals into command and control centres and hideouts for Hamas terrorists and commanders," Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israel's chief military spokesman, told a news conference.

Hagari said Hamas was using the hospital system to hide its command posts and entry points into the comprehensive tunnel network under Gaza.

He specifically identified Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest in Gaza, as one from which Hamas militants were operating.

"Hamas has turned hospitals into command and control centres and hideouts for Hamas terrorists and commanders. Additionally, I can confirm that according to the intelligence we have in our hands, there is fuel in hospitals in Gaza," Hagari said.

"Hamas terrorists operate inside and under Shifa Hospital and other hospitals in Gaza," he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also took to his official X account and shared an illustration-based video showing how the militant group used Shifa Hospital as a shelter for its military operations from both above and below the ground.

According to the Hamas-run Palestinian health ministry, 7,028 people, including more than 2,900 children have been killed in Gaza, as of Thursday, since its October 7 attacks. In the recent update, the ministry also said that nearly 18,500 people have been injured.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Mainly civilians’</h2>

The list, released by the Gaza health ministry shows the names of the 6,747 victims, mainly civilians. It&nbsp;also gives information about each&nbsp;victim's&nbsp;sex, age and identity card numbers. However, the ministry said 281 bodies had not yet been identified.&nbsp;

It added, “We have decided to announce the details of the names to the whole world so that the truth is known about the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against our people.” &nbsp;

During a joint press conference&nbsp;at the White House, Biden cast doubt on civilian casualty figures released by the Hamas-run Palestinian health ministry.

“I have no notion that the Palestinians are telling the truth about how many people are killed. I’m sure innocents have been killed, and it’s a price of waging war,” said the US president. He added, “But I have no confidence in the number that the Palestinians are using.”

"We have informed the families of 224 hostages. This number is changing based on the intelligence we obtain," military spokesman Daniel Hagari told reporters.&nbsp;

"It will continue to change. The effort to return the hostages is a top priority."

As per the Israeli government, at least half of the hostages have foreign passports.

Video: Israel uses unicorns to ensure safety of children amid war with Hamas

With an upsurge in violence across the West Bank, the Biden administration has begun to rush its defensive systems into the war-torn region amid fears of broader escalation by Iran and its proxies.&nbsp;

The move by the United States to strengthen its defence capabilities comes after attacks targetting US troops in other parts of the Middle East injured nearly two dozen US personnel since Oct 18.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had also released a statement saying that the recent US deployments to the region were aimed at thwarting the assaults purportedly designed to widen the Israel-Hamas conflict.

"We're concerned about potential escalation. In fact, what we're seeing … is the prospect of a significant escalation of attacks on our troops and our people throughout the region," Austin told ABC's "This Week" programme. "If any group or any country is looking to widen this conflict ... our advice is: don't."

<h2>US military under attack</h2>

Over the past week, American troops stationed in other parts of the Middle East—Iraq and Syria—have come under attacks. There are about 2,500 US troops in Iraq.

Ain al-Asad airbase, which hosts US and other international forces in western Iraq, was targeted by drones and missiles on October 19 evening. Multiple blasts were reportedly heard inside the base.

The attack came after rockets hit another military base hosting US forces near Baghdad’s international airport on Thursday, Iraqi police said.

A day before on Wednesday, US forces in Iraq were targeted in two separate drone attacks, with one causing minor injuries to a small number of troops even though the US military managed to intercept the armed drone.

At the same time, a drone hit US forces in Syria, resulting in minor injuries, while another one was brought down.

The spate of attacks on the US military in the Middle East comes amidst the Israel-Hamas war that has divided the Western nations and the Gulf.

<h2>900 US troops heading to Middle East</h2>

The Pentagon on Thursday said that about 900 additional US troops were either heading to the Middle East or had already arrived there to bolster air defences to protect US personnel amid a surge in attacks in the region.

Earlier, the Pentagon had announced that Washington is sending an additional squadron of F-16 Fighting Falcon to work alongside an array of capabilities already sent by the United States to the region in recent days in order to further enhance the ability of US forces to defend themselves.

"They seized dozens of people, most of them civilians, and we need time to find them in the Gaza Strip and then release them," Abu Hamid said.

He said Hamas, which has freed four hostages so far, had made clear it intended to release "civilian prisoners".

But this required a "calm environment", he said, repeating an assertion that Israeli bombing had already killed 50 of those held.&nbsp;

'Hamas ready to release civilian hostages but on one condition', says Iran

Earlier, the Israeli army said that 224 people were kidnapped by militants during the attack that claimed the lives of 1,400 people, mostly civilians.

"We have informed the families of 224 hostages. This number is changing based on the intelligence we obtain," military spokesman Daniel Hagari told reporters.&nbsp;

He also went on to accuse Hamas which has been ruling Gaza of “hiding behind” Palestinian civilians amid Israeli strikes but also called on Israel to follow “laws of war.”&nbsp;

Biden also called for an end to Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank saying that it is “pouring gasoline on the fire.” He added, “They’re attacking Palestinians in places that they’re entitled to be.”

Florida's university system, in coordination with Governor Ron DeSantis, ordered colleges to shut down a pro-Palestinian student organisation. The group has now been outlawed after its national leadership backed Hamas'&nbsp;attack on Israel.

The State University System of Florida has said that Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) was to be dismantled as the Republican-led state cracks down on demonstrations on campus that it said provide "harmful support for terrorist groups."

DeSantis is trying to win the Republican Party nomination for the US presidential election in 2024. He has taken a hard line against Palestinians. He has even suggested that civilians in Gaza should be denied water and utilities till Hamas releases the more than 200 hostages taken during the attack on Israel on October 7.

Desantis' action has&nbsp;drawn flak. The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida has said that DeSantis' actions were unconstitutional and amounted to an attack on free speech.
