<p>President Droupadi Murmu, in her parliamentary address at the Budget session's commencement, highlighted the government's acknowledgment of youth concerns regarding examination irregularities.</p>

<p>Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024 Bill was tabled in the legislature of the north Indian state on Tuesday&nbsp;(Feb 6). <p>On Sunday (Feb 4), the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved the final draft of the UCC, which proposes uniform civil laws for all communities in the state.</p>

<p>Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said on Monday that the Uniform Civil Code is in the consultation process and being reviewed by the Law Commission of India.</p>

<h2><strong>What suggestions did the panel receive?</strong></h2>

<p>A total of 233,000 written feedback forms were collected by the panel online and it hosted more than 70 public forums.</p>

<p>The members of the government-appointed panel, during these meetings, involved nearly 60,000 people who helped in developing the draft. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The UCC contains different proposals which include a complete ban on polygamy as well as child marriage. It also proposes a uniform process for divorce and a standardised marriageable age for girls across different faiths.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The UCC's recommendations, which are aimed at fostering gender equality as well as social cohesion, will be discussed during the special four-day assembly session which started on Monday (Feb 5) and continued till Thursday (Feb 8).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The UCC draft includes different facets of civilian life as recommendations include mandatory marriage registration, an extension of inheritance rights, as well as increasing the marriageable age for girls and facilitating girls' pursuit of education before their marriage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, in an attempt to push for legal documentation, couples who do not register their marriages will be considered ineligible for government facilities.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What did the Uniform Civil Code recommend?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Although the specific recommendations included in the draft document of the Uniform Civil Code remain undisclosed, the media reports suggested that the UCC will establish a legal framework which encompasses marriage, divorce, land, property, and inheritance laws, which will not be affected by the religious affiliations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Uniform Civil Code if enacted will make Uttarakhand the first state in post-Independence India to have adopted it, after Goa where it has remained operational since the days when the Portuguese ruled the territory.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Uttarakhand's proposed UCC goes beyond religious boundaries and everyone's adoption rights, which includes Muslim women.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The UCC seeks a ban on practices like halala and iddat - which are Islamic practices that women are supposed to go through after the husband's death or divorce - and promotes simplification of adoption procedures and the declaration of live-in relationships.</p>

<p>Two people lost their lives in the southern Indian state of Karnataka due to monkey fever, news agency PTI reported citing officials from the state's health department. The reported cases forced the authorities to hold meetings and review the preparedness to tackle the spread of the viral infection.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An 18-year-old girl, whose identity has not been revealed, was the first death reported due to Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) - also known as monkey fever.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PTI report added that the second fatality was reported in Udupi district when a 79-year-old man from Sringeri taluk in Chikkamagaluru died in a private hospital. His identity was also not revealed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Karnataka's Health Commissioner stated that since January 1, the Health Department has collected 2,288 samples from impacted districts where KFD cases have been reported. At least 48 of them tested positive.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As quoted by PTI, Dr Neeraj B, who is the Uttara Kannada District Health Officer, said, "Once you contract monkey fever, you develop symptoms in the next three to five days which could be high fever, severe body ache, headache, redness of eyes, cold and cough."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"As of Friday, we have 31 cases of monkey fever in the district. 12 people are admitted to hospitals. All of them are stable and so far, we have not witnessed any serious cases. All precautions are being taken. Our medical officers and field staff have done multiple meetings at the Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayat levels. All our taluk and district hospitals are equipped with staff and facilities to deal with such cases," he told PTI.&nbsp;</p>
