<p>Seasoned Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar took to social media to vent out her frustration and disappointment due to the uncertainty looming over the selection of the gymnastics team for the upcoming Asian Games 2023, to kick off on September 23&nbsp;in Hangzhou, China.</p>

<p>On Tuesday (Aug 15), Dipa detailed a "demotivating and discouraging" turn of events, claiming that she is fearing missing out on the forthcoming mega event despite topping the selection trials conducted by the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) in July.</p>

<p>On July 26, the GFI named a nine-member gymnastics team, including Dipa for the Asian Games following the trials conducted in Bhubaneshwar. However, the twist came when&nbsp;the sports ministry reportedly informed the GFI that only two of the nine qualified gymnasts met the selection criteria.</p>

<p>According to the rule set on July 10, "the performance of the sportspersons should not be less than the performance achieved by the 8th position holder of the 2018 Asian Games in measurable sports in individual events during the last 12 months prior to the commencement of the event".</p>

<p>Despite being at the top of the selection trials, with an all-round score of 47.05, Dipa's name went missing from the final list of athletes.</p>

<p>As the country is busy celebrating another year of Independence, the Rio Olympics star&nbsp; shared her disappointment in a series of posts on X, earlier known as Twitter.</p>

<p>"On this #IndependenceDay, I am using my freedom of speech to discuss recent events that have proven to be very demotivating and discouraging. The #AsianGames2023, an event I have eagerly anticipated for the past two years, looks further than it is."</p>

Seasoned Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar took to social media to vent out her frustration and disappointment due to the uncertainty looming over the selection of the gymnastics team for the upcoming Asian Games 2023, to kick off on September 23 in Hangzhou, China. On Tuesday (Aug 15), Dipa detailed a "demotivating and discouraging" turn of events, claiming that she is fearing missing out on the forthcoming mega event despite topping the selection trials conducted by the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) in July. On July 26, the GFI named a nine-member gymnastics team, including Dipa for the Asian Games following the trials conducted in Bhubaneshwar. However, the twist came when the sports ministry reportedly informed the GFI that only two of the nine qualified gymnasts met the selection criteria. According to the rule set on July 10, "the performance of the sportspersons should not be less than the performance achieved by the 8th position holder of the 2018 Asian Games in measurable sports in individual events during the last 12 months prior to the commencement of the event". Despite being at the top of the selection trials, with an all-round score of 47.05, Dipa's name went missing from the final list of athletes. <p>Modern and advanced electronic appliances and gadgets display a very promising picture of India. If not correctly treated, the numerous toxic components found in e-waste could have an adverse effect on both the environment and human health. Therefore, managing e-waste is a difficult task that needs everyone in India to actively participate.&nbsp;</p>

<em>Mahatma Gandhi dreamt of an India which was not only free but also clean and developed.<br />

<p>The end of British rule and the establishment of an independent nation also led to the division of the subcontinent into two parts — India and Pakistan. The Partition was marked by an outbreak of violence over the division of territories, powers and assets.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But have you wondered how the nations started to function immediately after partition, especially in Pakistan without any central banking system?&nbsp;</p>

<p>The partition posed several delicate problems as there were arrangements needed over issues related&nbsp;to currency and coinage, management of exchange and public debt, transfer of staff and property and division of profits, assets and liabilities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Following the acceptance in principle of Partition, a special committee of the cabinet was set up by the interim government "to examine the administrative consequences of Partition and to take necessary steps for the transfer of power to the two Dominions".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Later, the Committee was replaced, from July 1, 1947, by the Partition Council, which had the Governor General as its Chairman and two representatives each of the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League as its members.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>After 1947:</strong></p>

<p>It is an interesting fact that the Reserve Bank of India used to supply currency to newly-established Pakistan and it also served as the central bank till the State Bank of Pakistan commenced operations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The first currency to be used in Pakistan after its creation was the Indian Rupee, which had "Government of Pakistan" printed on it in English and "Hakumat-e-Pakistan" printed in Urdu on the white area of the note.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the RBI documents: "Under the arrangements agreed upon, the Bank was to be the currency authority in Pakistan and banker to the Central and Provincial Governments in Pakistan till the end of September 1948. It was also required to manage Pakistan's exchange control and public debt till the end of March 1948."</p>

<p>It was also decided that the minting of Pakistan's new design coins would start on March 1, 1948, and would be issued in Pakistan from April 1, 1948.&nbsp;</p>

<p>More than 10,000 police personnel will be deployed across the Indian national capital on Independence Day on Tuesday (August 15) to ensure that the city is secured and people can commute without facing any inconvenience, said government officials on Sunday (August 13), further stating that thousands of other officials have also been asked to remain on alert amid the celebrations.</p>

<p>Speaking to the news agency PTI regarding the security arrangements, Deputy Commissioner of Police (public relations officer) Suman Nalwa said, “Delhi Police is proud to be in charge of security of the Independence Day function. Adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure seamless celebrations across the city”.</p>

<p>"Independence Day will be celebrated with full enthusiasm this year with no COVID-19 restrictions in place. Therefore, a robust and adequate deployment of police will be ensured. We will also coordinate and share real-time information with other agencies to provide security. The Delhi Police will also use technology systems for security purposes. We are on our toes and doing rehearsals," said Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dependra Pathak.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the senior police officer, 10,000 police officers have been deployed for Independence Day across the city including the day's main venue, Red Fort, and the route of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the event. “Deployed teams include anti-sabotage check, access control and anti-terror squad,” said an officer.</p>

<p>The officer stated that they also have an artificial Intelligence (AI)-based facial recognition system in place to keep a check on terror elements.</p>

<h2><strong>Security tightened, Gyan Path gets decorated with flowers&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Nalwa stated that from Sunday midnight no heavy vehicles will be given an entry in the capital city. “Deployment has been done to keep a check at the borders and gather intelligence. Traffic restrictions have been made wherever necessary and traffic advisory is being issued regularly to update the citizens,” she said.</p>

<p>DCP (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi, under whose jurisdiction the Red Fort falls, stated, “For the last two months, a stringent verification drive was conducted at hotels, guest houses, paying guest accommodations and lodges. Over 100 vehicles were checked every day at each picket across the city to check for suspicious objects and individuals. Meetings were also held with residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) and market welfare associations (MWAs) to inform them about being the ‘eyes and ears’ of Delhi and alert if they spot anything suspicious.”</p>

<p>Meanwhile, another officer confirmed the instalment of CCTV cameras at strategic places and anti-drone systems, which include the National Security Guards (NSG) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).</p>

<p>"This year, more than 20,000 officials and civilians will take part in the Independence Day celebrations. Gyan Path is being decorated with flowers and G20 signage for the national festival," said a police officer.</p>

<p>“Vehicles that do not have parking labels for Independence Day celebrations may avoid C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, JL Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass,” the advisory stated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the whole of LoC is covered with dense forest giving an edge to the terror groups to infiltrate into the Kashmir territory and this district sees the highest number of infiltration&nbsp;attempts by terrorists from across the border.</p>

<p>Border security forces posted on one of the forward posts in North Kashmir have been guarding the borders day and night and making sure that no such infiltration attempt is successful. And to guard the higher reaches of the Line of Control, Border Security Force trains soldiers not only to acclimatise with the environment but also to become agile in the Himalayan mountain ranges.</p>

<p>WION’s team reached the border area to get a first-hand account of the training provided to the soldiers of BSF. The training includes how to tackle an attack, ambush, encounter, hostage situation and infiltration from across the border.</p>

<p>“We are always ready to deal with the enemy. We have got the latest surveillance technology here and everything is in place to neutralize any threat that comes our way,” said Udham Kuhad, Commanding Officer, BSF, Kupwara, North Kashmir.</p>

<p>The Border Security forces deployed at the forward locations close to LoC are keeping a continuous vigil to secure the borders. Apart from using the new high-tech surveillance equipment, patrolling is done four times during the day in these higher reaches.</p>

<p>Cordon and aearch operations are carried out to sanitise the areas close to LoC. The smuggling of narcotics is also one of the major challenges for the security forces in North Kashmir. The money which is being generated via the drug trade is used to fuel terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.</p>

<p>To keep the troopers motivated and physically&nbsp;and mentally fit in war-like situations is one of the toughest tasks. And at this location, BSF has found a way, the troopers are undergoing a rigorous morning training session every day which keeps them physically fit and mentally strong. While one group are engaged in activities the other one cheers for them. The BSF soldiers also want countrymen to be at peace as they are protecting the borders.</p>

<p>The security forces posted in Jammu and Kashmir, many a time face hostage situations during encounters and attacks. And special training is being given to the soldiers of the BSF to tackle the situation without harming the hostages.</p>

Myanmar's junta celebrated the country's 75th Independence Day on Wednesday (January 4) following a show of force in the capital city of Naypyitaw. A parade was held in Naypyitaw with a military display of tanks, missile launchers and armoured cars.
