It is just we really do not feel it if we are not hitting six or not four, it is just that what are we doing for the team."

Imam-ul-Haq admitted with Pakistan down in the past two games, the chances of improving now through extra training or practice are bleak, and the only way they can get better at producing desired results is if the players apply their skills and play as per the conditions.

"It's just that I don't believe that now we have a chance to do any kind of more practice. It's just we are in the tournament, and it's just about the top-up.

“We don't have that much time…but the thing is it's just that - yes, this is a spin venue ground, and we know that, and the guys individually really depend on how they practice, and it's just that every individual has their own preparations and we really back them, we really back their ability, and it's just that's how it is,” Imam added.

With the game scheduled in Chennai, spinners will come into play, and Pakistan is aware of Afghanistan's strength - the spin department. But Imam feels with past results favouring them, Pakistan can beat Afghanistan at the Chepauk.

"Of course, there are good spinners in Afghanistan who can bowl well in the middle overs. But we had beaten them in Hambantota 3-0. Even there, the conditions were very spin-friendly. CWC - We need to eat more protein than carbs…: Imam's bizarre reasoning behind PAK batters not hitting sixes

India's Hardik Pandya provided the home team much needed breakthrough with the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq when Pakistan was cruising along in the ODI World Cup 2023 match in Ahmedabad on October 14. Pandya brought balance to India's side with the wicket of Imam who was batting beautifully on 36 off 38.

It was the third ball of the 13th over and Pandya had been hit for a four on the previous ball, but bowled the next one a touch fuller. It was well outside off and Imam attempted to drive the ball. All the batter could manage was get an outside edge which wicketkeeper KL Rahul pouched easily.&nbsp;

However, his partner Imam held one end to put Pakistan in a comfortable position during the chase. He was supported by Babar Azam (17) before he was bowled by Taskin Ahmed on the third ball of the 16th over.

Imam was looking good for his 10th ODI hundred but was bowled by Mehidy Hasan Miraz on 78 and his innings came to an unfortunate end. Imam’s innings consisted of four sixes and five fours and looked impressive with the bat.

Mohammad Rizwan was another feature of the Pakistan batting line-up as he scored 63&nbsp;runs. He along with Agha Salman (12) guided their team home to register a comprehensive win in Lahore. The likes of Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Miraz ended with one wicket each for Bangladesh.

Both right-handers slammed each bowler, Haris Rauf, particularly, who triggered their collapse in the first ODI with a five-for. Gurbaz was the aggressor of the two, going for biggies more often than not. The way this pair was striking the ball, it looked like Afghanistan was up for a huge total in the first innings.

Both, in no time, completed a 200-plus run stand for the first wicket, putting Pakistan’s back against the wall. In the meantime, Gurbaz completed his fifth ODI hundred, becoming the second-quickest batter (in 23 innings) to achieve this feat.

Leg-spinner Usama Mir broke the 227-run stand for the first wicket, and with that, Pakistan did put brakes on Afghans’ fast-paced innings. Gurbaz departed next on a well-made 151, as Shaheen Afridi picked two wickets to help Pakistan restrict their opponents to 300 for five in 20 overs. With no wickets in seven overs, Rauf was Pakistan’s most expensive bowler, conceding 48 runs at 6.90.

Pakistan, in their chase, lost Fakhar Zaman inside the first 10 overs, with man-in-form Imam-ul-Haq and Captain Babar Azam stuck around to keep Pakistan afloat in the game. Both completed their respective fifties, however, Imam got out to Mujeeb on 91.

In between, Pakistan lost wickets in cluster, much like the previous game, with Babar Azam falling on 53.&nbsp;

Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan kept Pakistan in the chase with odd boundaries, but Afghanistan looked in control during the fag end of the innings.

Seamers and spinners kept it tight for the Afghans as they approached their first win against Pakistan in ODIs.

Two back-to-back wickets during the last four overs, including the big one of Iftikhar Ahmed, put Pakistan in a losing position. Having said that, the tide turned in the penultimate over after Shadab Khan changed the equation with some fireworks.&nbsp;

Fazalhaq Farooqi, on the first ball of the final over, pulled off a Mankad to dismiss dangerous Shadab Khan on 48, leaving only bowlers to chase the remaining 11 runs.

That wasn’t the end of the story, as Naseem Shah, the batter, returned to haunt Afghanistan, as he helped his team win the match with just one wicket in hand. With this, Pakistan won the second ODI and series 2-0, with one ODI left.

Opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq hit an unbeaten 50 to steer Pakistan home in their tricky chase of 131 against Sri Lanka and win the first Test by four wickets on Thursday.

The tourists started the final day on 48-3 and lost three more wickets, including skipper Babar Azam for 24 off Prabath Jayasuriya, before they achieved the target in the first session.

Haq started the day on 25 and remained calm with Azam and then left-handed partner Saud Shakeel, who made a brisk 30 after his unbeaten 208 in Pakistan's first innings.

Left-arm spinner Jayasuriya took four wickets including two on the evening of day four to give the hosts a glimmer of hope, but Haq stood firm.

Azam came out roaring as he hit a boundary off the first ball of the day and looked fluent in his 28-ball stay before being trapped lbw by Jayasuriya.

Shakeel took on the bowlers as well but off spinner Ramesh Mendis got him caught behind.

Haq reached his eighth Test fifty before falling to Jayasuriya, but Agha Salman came out to hit the winning six.

Shakeel stood out for his maiden Test double century in Pakistan's 461 all out and a handy first-innings lead of 149 in the rain-hit match.

Pakistan registered their first one-day international series win over New Zealand in 12 years with a hard-fought 26-run victory in the third match in Karachi on Wednesday. Imam-ul-Haq scored a 107-ball 90 while Babar Azam made a 62-ball 54 for his 26th ODI half-century to guide Pakistan to 287-6 in their 50 overs.

Opener Tom Blundell hit 65 for New Zealand while debutant Cole McConchie struck an undefeated 45-ball 64 but the visitors were bowled out for 261 in 49.1 overs.

Pakistan, who won the first two matches by five and seven wickets, respectively in Rawalpindi, took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Pakistan finally broke through with Young's run out off a direct throw from short third-man, before Mohammad Wasim dismissed Daryl Mitchell for 21 -- the man who had hit successive hundreds in the last two matches.

Fifteen runs later, Blundell was also run out after failing to reach his crease in an attempt to complete a second run. He hit seven boundaries in his knock.

Tom Latham, who made 45, and Mark Chapman (13) added 40 for the fourth wicket but pacer Naseem Shah bowled Chapman with a beautiful delivery before Latham was cleaned up by Wasim.

McConchie tied valiantly to snatch a victory for New Zealand, smashing two sixes and six fours but ran out of partners.

Naseem, Wasim and Shaheen Shah Afridi all took two wickets for Pakistan.

"The pitch probably slowed up a little bit," said New Zealand captain Latham. "If we had a couple of partnerships here and there then things could have been a little different but we were not quite at our best."

Earlier, New Zealand started well by getting the in-form opener Fakhar Zaman caught off Matt Henry for 19.

Zaman, who had scored three hundreds in his last three ODI innings, had shaped up well before his fall, leaving it to Haq and Azam to steady the innings during their 108-run second-wicket stand.

Azam hit three fours and a six before he chopped one onto his stumps off Henry.

Haq was bowled by pacer Adam Milne in the 38th over.

Abdullah Shafique struggled again as he managed just 19, but Agha Salman (31) helped Mohammad Rizwan (32) add 54 runs for the fifth wicket to lift the total.

In the final overs, Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan also chipped in with 11 and 21 not out respectively.

"Imam was remorseful and has apologised for what all has happened and admitted his mistake. He said the matter got out of hand due to a misunderstanding," geo.tv quoted PCB Managing Director, Wasim Khan as saying.

"But we told him in clear terms that, although this is his personal and private matter, we expect our players to adhere to the highest standards of ethics and discipline," he added.

Khan added that the board takes these type of matters very seriously, saying centrally contracted players are expected to be more responsible.

"We don't like to comment on personal affairs of a player but we expect that our centrally contracted players will also show more responsibility being ambassadors of Pakistan cricket and Pakistan," Khan said.

"Hopefully we will not see such incidents again," he added.

South Africa had a poor day in the field, dropping five catches, including lives to all five of the Pakistan top scorers.

There were 12 wides in the innings as South Africa needed more than 20 minutes more than the allotted time to bowl their 50 overs.

Andile Phehlukwayo and Tabraiz Shamsi, the two most successful bowlers in South Africa's win in the second match in Durban on Tuesday, conceded a combined 146 runs in 19 overs for the wicket of Imam, caught off Shamsi.

Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla gave South Africa a brisk start, putting on 53 for the first wicket. With a thunderstorm approaching, both were dismissed before the first rain delay at 88 for two after 16.5 overs.

Play resumed after a 55-minute break with the target remaining 318 in 50 overs.

Man of the match Hendricks and Du Plessis batted aggressively while the Pakistan bowlers and fielders struggled in damp conditions. More rain started to fall and eventually caused the match to be abandoned.

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed said he believed Pakistan had made a "good score".&nbsp;

In Pakistan’s tour match against Northamptonshire, Imam was involved in a comical run-out dismissal with Azhar Ali.

Imam tapped the ball to fine leg and took off running, but was watching the ball instead of his partner Azhar Ali, who, despite his best attempts to avoid a collision ended up barging into the batsman.&nbsp;

The result was Ali being run-out and Imam left standing at the non-striker's end.
