Hyderabad will achieve the distinction of becoming the first city in India to host the Formula E race. Hyderabad E-Prix will take place over two days, February 10 and 11, 2023 at Necklace Road. Formula E is the premier electric single seater racing series in the world governed by the Federation Internationale de l`Automobile (FIA). With this event, Hyderabad will join the prestigious list of E-Prix host cities such as New York, London, Berlin, Seoul, Monaco, and Rome. 
 
The event will see 22 drivers from 11 teams including Team Mahindra to fight it out for the victory around the Hyderabad Street Circuit. As a run up to the marquee race, the government of Telangana will be organising the Hyderabad e-Mobility Week from February 6 to February 11. The week will be packed with several exciting events that will showcase the global electric vehicle ecosystem in Hyderabad. As part of the week-long celebrations, the city will host the Hyderabad EV Summit, the Rall-E Hyderabad, and the Hyderabad E-Motor Show before closing the week with the Hyderabad E-Prix. 
 
Minister for information technology and industries K.T. Rama Rao on Friday formally announced the Hyderabad e-Mobility Week by launching the website and unveiling the logo and flyer for the event in the presence of the minister for energy, G. Jagadish Reddy, Principal Secretary, Jayesh Ranjan and others. "This is going to be a monumental week for Hyderabad and India. The Hyderabad E-Prix will be one of the largest global events ever hosted in the state," Rama Rao said. 
 
He said that the Hyderabad e-Mobility Week is a great step to put Hyderabad on the EV map of the world. "The EV sector is the future of sustainable mobility and Telangana has stayed ahead of the curve in creating a favourable environment for the adoption of zero emission vehicles. We were one of the first states to launch EV&amp;ESS policy in 2020 and have also attracted investments from key EV companies such as Fisker, Olectra, Hyundai, Biliti Electric and ZF Group. Now, with the Hyderabad e-Prix and the e-Mobility Week, we are bringing global leaders of the EV landscape to Telangana. This event will provide fresh dynamism for this sunrise sector in the state and in India," he said.

Jayesh Ranjan stated that the Hyderabad e-Mobility Week will be one of the largest global platforms for EV companies and ancillary businesses in the world to showcase their latest technologies, products and services that will shape the future of green mobility, and will enrich the growing EV ecosystem of the state. The events being conducted as part of this week will provide opportunities to interact with the best in the industry and potentially attract more investments to the state, he said. 
 
The Hyderabad EV Summit will showcase global leaders, eminent academics, policy makers discussing about the most pressing topics related to the future of sustainable mobility. It will consist of engaging panel discussions, keynote speeches and networking sessions attended by prominent stakeholders in the global EV ecosystem. Rall-E Hyderabad will be first-of-its-kind EV bike rally which will witness thousands of bikers, male and female, riding their electric 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers together to spread the message of sustainable mobility and the depth of EV adoption in Hyderabad.

Seven people staying in a hotel were killed in a fire accident that originated from an electric bike showroom in Secunderabad area of Hyderabad during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The fire broke out at the charging unit of the electric scooter showroom on the ground floor of the hotel building. Following this, people on the upper floors got trapped in smoke. Several fire tenders rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control. Police reached the spot and evacuated people.

"The fire broke out in the electric scooter charging unit on the ground floor. Smoke overpowered the people staying on the first and second floors. The remaining people jumped from the building and were rescued by locals.&nbsp;

They were rushed to the hospital. Fire tenders on the spot," said Hyderabad Commissioner CV Anand. Meanwhile, Telangana Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali said a probe has been initiated.

"Very unfortunate incident. Fire brigade teams tried their best to rescue people from the lodge but due to heavy smoke, some people died. Some people were rescued from the lodge. We are probing how the incident happened," the minister said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences on the tragic incident. "Saddened by the loss of lives due to a fire in Secunderabad, Telangana. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon," Modi tweeted.

While expressing his condolences through a Twitter post, Modi said Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF (Prime Minister`s National Relief Fund) would be paid to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.

Seven killed in fire at Secunderabad hotel, PM Modi announces compensation

On Friday, a mega promotional event for 'Brahmastra' was planned in Hyderabad. The event was to have Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Ayan Mukerji along with Jr NTR in attendance but was canceled hours before its scheduled time.&nbsp; 
 
Organizers told Hindustan Times that the event was canceled due to 'unforeseen circumstances.' 
&nbsp; 
The event reportedly did not get a police clearance on time as the Police were deployed in the city ahead of Ganpati Visarjan and could not dedicate enough personnel for the mega event.&nbsp; 
 
A political rally to has been planned for the next day and sources told the publication that as a result the police force is stretched. 
 
The event was scheduled to take place at Hyderabad's famous Ramoji Film City with the film's lead pair, director and Jr NTR in attendance. 'Brahmastra' is set to release on September 9 and will release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.&nbsp; 
 
Several fans took to Twitter to express disappointment over the cancellation of the event.

The event reportedly did not get a police clearance on time as the Police were deployed in the city ahead of Ganpati Visarjan and could not dedicate enough personnel for the mega event. A political rally to has been planned for the next day and sources told the publication that as a result the police force is stretched. The event was scheduled to take place at Hyderabad's famous Ramoji Film City with the film's lead pair, director and Jr NTR in attendance. 'Brahmastra' is set to release on September 9 and will release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. "The commission deems it appropriate to take suo motu cognizance since there is a prima-facie violation of relevant provisions under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015," it&nbsp;said in the letter.

State home minister Mahmood Ali said the government will take tough action against those who create unrest as he urged people to exercise restraint.&nbsp;The state government has stepped up security after the row over T Raja's remarks as Mahmood Ali said he had received several complaints across the state against Raja.

After 3 years, Jet Airways conducts first test flight in Hyderabad

Despite their 0-1 loss to ATK Mohun Bagan in the second leg of the Hero Indian Super League semifinal, Hyderabad FC made history by qualifying for the final with a 3-2 victory on aggregate over two legs at the Athletic Stadium, here on Wednesday.

Roy Krishna scored in the 79th minute to give ATKMB a glimmer of hope and make for an end-to-end last ten minutes but in the end, it was not enough for the finalists of last season as the men in yellow booked a final date with Kerala Blasters at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday.

In the first leg, Bartholomew Ogbeche, Yasir Mohammad and Javier Siverio netted for Hyderabad. 
 
Hyderabad head coach Manolo Marquez played the same team that won the first leg 3-1 while Juan Ferrando made a few changes to the ATKMB side from the last game with the ever-dependable centre-back Tiri being a forced one as he picked up an injury in the last game. Kiyan Nassiri -- who scored a memorable hat-trick in the Kolkata derby earlier this season -- got a start.

The best chance of the half, though, fell to Hugo Boumous who could not stab home from handshaking distance after a pin-point Prabir Das cross set him up perfectly, the French-Moroccan sliding in to get a touch on the ball as well but only dragging his effort wide.

Just before halftime, Joni Kauko shot wide, to sum up ATKMB's half of missed opportunities.

ISL: Hyderabad book final date against Kerala with 3-2 aggregate win over ATK Mohun Bagan

A passenger smuggling gold was nabbed from the airport in Hyderabad, the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana on Tuesday.

The Hyderabad Customs department acted based on a tip-off that a man from Sharjah was smuggling gold paste, following which the accused was detained.

Upon searching his belongings, the officials found that he had concealed gold in paste form inside the bandages and tied it to his calves of both legs. The bandage was cut, and the paste was recovered.

The customs officials recovered 970 grams of gold worth more than Rs 4.7 million (US $63,642 approx.) from the male passenger.

The man, who has not been named by the officials so far, travelled by an Air Arabia Flight from Sharjah on January 9.

This is the fourth time in the past one month that gold smugglers were busted from airports in southern India.

On December 28, a male passenger from Dubai was detained at Hyderabad airport after officials found that he had hidden the gold in the form of paste inside his rectum.

The recovered gold weighed 1.19 kg and is valued at Rs 5.9 million (approx. US $80,000).

Similarly on December 24, a 38-year-old Sudanese national&nbsp;was caught with 535gm of gold paste worth Rs 2.6 million (approx. US $35,000) hidden in capsules inside her rectum at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport.

On December 11, the customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad recovered 7.3 kg gold from four Sudanese who had concealed it in their rectum.

The passengers, including two women, had arrived from Dubai by flight no AI 952.

On suspicion, the customs officials checked them. According to the department, they had concealed the gold valued at about Rs 36 million (US $4 million approx.) in their rectum. This was recovered and seized.

Some years ago, Gangadhar Tilak Katnam,&nbsp;would complain to his local government and the police about potholes in the city roads, but to no avail.&nbsp;

Tilak says that the potholes caused many accidents. He kept trying to find an appropriate solution from the authorities, but when he was unable to do so, he filled them himself.&nbsp;

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday requested the Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to speed up the process to build six more airports in the state.

"I request the Ministry of Civil Aviation to kindly expedite finalizing the sites and getting all statutory clearances on a single-window basis so that the government can commence the infrastructure work," said Rao.

Rao is currently in New Delhi, where he personally met Puri and discussed the matter.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, said this will enable Telangana to start non-scheduled operators` permit (NSOP) operations with its own funds.

Rao reminded Puri that he had requested the Prime Minister immediately after the formation of Telangana in 2014 to establish six more airports as the state has only one at Hyderabad.

Following discussions with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), it was decided that only no-frills airports for smaller aircraft will be developed, which may be expanded in the future for commercial operations depending on demand.

"Though AAI has already taken up the Obstacle Limitation Surface Survey (OLS), soil testing and other investigations at the sites and some draft reports have recently come, the final reports are yet to be given," he highlighted.

Rao also produced a copy of the letter he wrote to Narendra Modi on September 6, 2014 about the proposal for Puri`s reference.

Several workers in Telangana were injured when a major fire broke out on Saturday in a chemical factory in an industrial area of Hyderabad.

The blaze was reported at 1.30 p.m. from the Vindhya Organics factory in the Bollaram industrial area of Sangareddy district. Massive clouds of dark smoke was seen billowing out from the factory premises as people were rushing away from the vicinity in panic.

Eight people with burn injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital, of whom two were reported to be critical.

Operations was still underway to douse the fire and rescue those reportedly trapped inside the factory.

The sanitation workers will bring the garbage back to the person's house who is littering on the roads, or worse the person can be fined after one warning.

This as per a new cleanliness initiative by Kakinada Municipal Corporation.

Kakinada is the 6th largest city of Indian State of Andhra Pradesh and serves as the district headquarters of East Godavari district of the State.

Pundkar took the decision after seeing a woman throw garbage on a road, while sanitation workers were on waste-collection duty.

Pundkar, who was supervising the work, immediately asked a worker to take the garbage back to the house of the woman. When the shocked house owner tried to resist, the municipal commissioner explained to her not to litter roads, but hand it over to the sanitation workers who come to collect garbage.

Pundkar added there are 900 sanitation workers in Kakinada, exclusively for collecting garbage.&nbsp;

"They collect garbage from 7 am to 9 am. Every house is given an RFID ("radio frequency identification) tag, which the sanitation worker scans so that their physical presence at every household is registered. Most people are responding well to this, but not all," he said, adding that in the next three months, garbage collection will be categorised into wet and dry.

"Now, we are collecting all kinds of garbage together. After three months or so, we will start collecting dry and wet garbage separately. People have a habit of throwing garbage near waste bins, rather than inside them. So we are planning to remove the dumper bins in the city within a year. We want Kakinada to stand ahead in the race for Smart Cities. Sanitation and cleanliness are our priorities," he said.

As many as 120 Umrah pilgrims who were scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia on February 27, were forced to turn back from the Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport as Saudi authorities have temporarily halted the entry of pilgrims to the country in the wake of rising cases of coronavirus across the world.

Tayyab Wasif, MD of a tour and travel agency, told ANI that the flights have been suspended by Saudi authorities and so far no update has been provided.

"120 persons who were going there for the Umrah pilgrimage on February 27 were stopped at the airport and sent back. All of them have booked their tickets from different travels. Till now no update has been given to the pilgrims. It is being said that Saudi authorities may allow pilgrims after March 15," said Tayyab.

Amberpet resident Syed Shafath Matheen, who was scheduled to fly to Saudi Arabia last week for Umrah, said: "On February 27, I was scheduled to go to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

I reached the RGI Airport as per schedule but was informed that Saudi Arabia is not allowing Umrah pilgrims in the wake of coronavirus cases across the world. So with no option left, I returned to my residence.

Faheem, a software consultant, is one of a growing group of opponents to the new law who have begun to borrow tactics used in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/hong-kong-around-400-arrested-in-new-years-day-unrest-271484">protests</a> from Hong Kong to Paris, to protest legislation that critics say discriminates against Muslims.

In Hyderabad, some protesters say it is impossible to secure police permission to hold demonstrations, forcing them to adopt new tactics to show dissent.

"The objective is to get 30 minutes at one spot. Some people support us, others come and argue with us," said Faheem, who has organised regular flash protests through WhatsApp messages that are amplified via social media.

The location of the protests, which change daily, are posted just an hour or two in advance, with the exact spots shared just minutes ahead of time.
