Tesla CEO Elon Musk is putting humanoid robots at the centre of the company's future, as the electric vehicle maker ramps up Optimus production plans and spends heavily on artificial intelligence. During Tesla's second-quarter 2026 earnings call, Musk described the robot as potentially the biggest product in history, while warning that manufacturing it will be harder than building cars.&nbsp; The shift comes even as Tesla reported $28.2 billion in quarterly revenue, up 26% year on year. Yet adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation fell 4% to $3.3 billion. Tesla shares subsequently dropped more than 14% by late Thursday afternoon.&nbsp;<h2>Elon Musk says Optimus is Tesla's biggest bet yet</h2>Musk said Tesla would soon begin series production of Optimus Version 3, with the Fremont, California, factory being refitted to accommodate robot manufacturing. The facility's Model S and Model X production lines were expected to make way for Optimus this summer. Musk described the factory as "quite stunning".&nbsp; But he also acknowledged the scale of the challenge.&nbsp;"This is going to be the hardest product to scale-manufacture that we've ever made at Tesla," Musk said. Unlike electric cars, which can rely on established suppliers for many conventional components, Optimus has no existing supply chain for much of its hardware.Musk said the robot must eventually learn tasks simply by receiving instructions or watching a video, without requiring specific programming. He called this one of the hardest problems to solve. Tesla's chief financial officer, Vaibhav Taneja, also warned of massive capital expenditure in 2026, much of it linked to Optimus and AI investment.&nbsp;<h2>Robotaxi expands as Tesla pushes beyond electric cars</h2>Tesla is also expanding its Robotaxi service, which currently uses modified Model Y vehicles equipped with its Full Self-Driving technology. The service operates in selected locations in Texas, Florida and the San Francisco Bay Area. "We'll continue to scale, I think, very rapidly," Musk said, pointing to growth of more than 10% a week in miles driven. He also claimed that demand for Full Self-Driving is strong in markets where it is legally permitted, with some customers prioritising the software over the vehicle itself.Tesla reported 480,126 Model Y and Model 3 deliveries combined in the quarter, without providing a separate breakdown for each model.&nbsp;<h2>Tesla's robot ambition faces a major manufacturing test</h2>Musk's long-term ambition is to move Optimus from internal factory use to industrial customers, with production expected to ramp up in 2027. However, earlier production promises and reveal timelines have slipped. The company has yet to establish a large-scale commercial supply chain for the robot.&nbsp; The Roadster, another long-promised Tesla vehicle, also received no new update during the call. For investors, the central question is whether Tesla can turn its AI and robotics spending into sustainable revenue. The latest earnings call made clear that Musk sees Optimus as central to that future, but the manufacturing challenge remains unresolved.

Elon Musk has outlined one of SpaceX's most ambitious ideas yet: sending humanoid robots to the Moon to build factories and industrial infrastructure before humans take over. Speaking during the company's latest earnings call, Musk said robotic construction on the lunar surface could eventually help expand Earth's economy by as much as 1,000 times. "It sounds super sci-fi right now, but it's going to happen," Musk said, describing a future where autonomous machines manufacture equipment and build critical infrastructure beyond Earth.<h2>Why Musk wants factories on the Moon</h2>According to Musk, building factories in space offers several advantages over Earth-based manufacturing. Cooling systems would require fewer resources, while autonomous robots could perform dangerous or repetitive work without human intervention. Musk also argued that SpaceX's satellites should already be viewed as robots because they operate autonomously and do not require regular servicing. One of the long-term goals is to build a mass accelerator on the Moon a system capable of launching cargo into space without traditional rockets. Musk believes humanoid robots would be essential for constructing and maintaining such large-scale infrastructure. However, he admitted the proposal currently sounds "totally nuts" and offered no timeline for when it could become reality.<h2>Will Tesla's Optimus robots be used?</h2>SpaceX did not reveal whether it plans to deploy Tesla's Optimus humanoid robots or develop a new generation of robotic workers specifically for lunar operations. The company also did not disclose investment plans or a roadmap for building Moon-based factories. For now, the project remains part of Musk's long-term vision for expanding humanity's industrial footprint beyond Earth. The announcement comes days after a discarded upper stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket reportedly impacted the Moon after drifting in space for more than a year following a 2025 lunar mission.<h2>Nvidia partnership powers SpaceX's AI ambitions</h2>Alongside its lunar plans, SpaceX also announced a partnership with Nvidia to develop Starmind AI-1, an orbital data centre powered by Nvidia's latest Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs. Musk said the first Starmind satellites are expected to launch next year and confirmed SpaceX will build its AI infrastructure exclusively on Nvidia hardware. "We think the Vera Rubin architecture is the best AI computer," Musk said, calling Nvidia a key strategic partner as SpaceX expands its artificial intelligence capabilities both in orbit and, eventually, on the Moon.

The World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai showcased the latest generation of humanoid robots capable of dancing, folding laundry, preparing sandwiches, and interacting naturally with humans. Powered by advanced artificial intelligence, these robots highlight how rapidly AI and robotics are evolving, offering a glimpse into the future of homes, workplaces, healthcare, and everyday life.

A remotely controlled pair of humanoid robots completed a surgery for the first time ever. In another case, one humanoid with human assistance carried out the procedure. The proof-of-concept preclinical trial was carried out by scientists at the University of California San Diego and involved gallbladder removals in large, non-primate mammals, Popular Science reported. Robotic surgeries are common today, but they are massive devices with multiple arms and weigh over 800 kg. However, the humanoids that carried out the procedures in this case are only about five feet tall and just 27 kg. Nicknamed Surgie, the bots can be customised and are much more affordable.&nbsp;Michael Yip, an engineer at the University of California San Diego, published their study in the journal Nature. They said that the robots were equipped with adapters to hold surgical tools, and that controlling them remotely felt natural. “We were surprised at how well Surgie meshed with our workspace and workflow,” said UC San Diego surgeon Nikita Thareja. Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/trending/man-from-year-3700-warns-of-apocalyptic-war-with-robots-1783492147310">Man claims he travelled to year 3700. They had to be recalibrated multiple times, which stretched the surgery for a longer period compared to existing surgical systems. There was a lag in response time between the controller and the robot, which researchers said needs to be worked on. The team cited real world examples to express confidence that this issue would be overcome. Notably, robotic laparoscopic surgery took six hours when it was carried out for the first time. Today it only takes around 30 minutes. Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/technology/humanoid-robots-are-learning-to-cook-and-clean-in-china-here-s-how-they-could-replace-millions-of-jobs-1782834768024">Humanoid robots are learning to cook and clean in China: Here's how they could replace millions of jobs</a>&nbsp;Scientists say that besides doing the surgery, Surgies can also assist in grabbing tools and cleaning up later. There was a lag in response time between the controller and the robot, which researchers said needs to be worked on. The team cited real world examples to express confidence that this issue would be overcome. Notably, robotic laparoscopic surgery took six hours when it was carried out for the first time. Today it only takes around 30 minutes. Yip said the goal is to create an "autonomous surgical assistant." He added that the goal is to have an operating theatre where humanoid robots and humans work side by side as an integrated team.

In a world first, scientists at the University of California San Diego controlled humanoid robots remotely to carry out a surgery. The team believes this has major implications for the future, as they can be deployed in rural areas, on the battlefield and even in space.

<h2>What happens inside these robot training centres?</h2>The facilities work much like classrooms for robots. Human trainers repeatedly demonstrate tasks while robots observe, imitate and practise them. These activities include folding laundry, arranging household items, cooking simple meals, picking up objects and cleaning different surfaces. Every attempt generates large amounts of data. AI models use this information to improve the robot's understanding of movement, balance, object handling and decision-making. The goal is to help robots perform everyday activities more naturally instead of relying only on pre-programmed instructions.<h2>Why is China investing heavily in humanoid robots?</h2>China sees humanoid robots as one of the next major industries after electric vehicles and artificial intelligence. The country is facing an ageing population and rising labour costs. Intelligent robots could eventually assist in factories, hospitals, warehouses, elderly care facilities, hotels and even private homes. Unlike traditional industrial robots that perform a single repetitive task, humanoid robots are designed to work in environments built for people. That makes them more flexible and capable of handling different types of work.<h2>What does this mean for the future?</h2>Many technology companies around the world are racing to build practical humanoid robots. Firms in China, the United States and Europe are investing billions of dollars to improve AI, sensors and robotic movement. However, teaching robots how to safely complete everyday activities remains one of the biggest challenges. China's new training centres represent another step towards that goal. While humanoid robots are still some years away from becoming common in homes, the country's latest efforts suggest the focus is shifting from building robots to teaching them how to function effectively in the real world.

China is training humanoid robots in specialised centres where they learn tasks such as cooking, cleaning and folding clothes. The programme aims to prepare AI-powered robots for future roles in homes, healthcare, factories and other workplaces.

A software engineer gained control of 7,000 robot vacuums in 24 countries when he built an app to steer the one in his home through a video game controller. He could monitor their live camera feeds and had access to microphone audio, maps, and status data. Sammy Azdoufal owned a DJI robot vacuum and noticed that the credentials he used on his app also allowed him entry to 7,000 other devices, Popular Science reported. Humanoid robots in space | Tech It Out

As per the Chinese government officials, their industry's future likely rests on the shoulders of humanoid robots if the new goals of increasing mass production by 2025 and achieving an advanced level of technology by 2027 are to be met.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which oversees the industrial sector of China, uploaded a nine-page guideline on its website, which stated that humanoid robots should “realise mass production by 2025” in China.

MIIT stated that the country would aim to “establish a humanoid robot innovation system, make breakthroughs in several key technologies and ensure the safe and effective supply of core components” by 2025.

The ministry appealed that the humanoid robots should “become an important new engine of economic growth” in China by 2027.

The document stated that by that time, “the technological innovation of humanoid robots will be significantly improved, a safe and reliable industrial supply chain system will be formed, an industrial ecology with international competitiveness will be constructed and our comprehensive strength will reach the world’s advanced level”.

This is the latest step taken by China for promoting tech self-reliance and accelerating the development of its local robotics industry as it faces fierce competition from the US in major technology areas like chips.

<h2>'Humanoid robots likely to become disruptive innovation'</h2>

As per the World Robotics 2022 Report published by the International Federation of Robotics, significant progress has been made by China in industrial robotics as it overtook the United States in 2021 for the first time and became the world's fifth most automated country in the world.

As per the guidelines shared on Thursday (Nov 2), industries like home services, agriculture, healthcare and logistics are likely to see a boom in the use of robots.

At the start of the document, MIIT stated that humanoid robots are likely to become another “disruptive innovation” after smartphones and computers and can emerge as a technology which is likely to change production and the pattern in which humans live “and reshape the pattern of global industrial development”.

The policy document also asked the industry to emphasise the “cerebellum”, “brain” and “limbs” of humanoid robots with the help of breakthroughs in artificial intelligence like the large-language models.

It appealed to the robot industry to increase the development of humanoid robots for them to be used in dangerous and harsh conditions.

Humanoid robots to shape future of Chinese economy? Ministry hints so

What are the challenges automakers are facing with humanoid robots?

There is no dearth of movies showing robots and artificial intelligence taking over the world; we've seen it all from the Terminator to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Did these movies make you just a little bit scared? Or did they make you wonder if that is our future? After all, movies have at times predicted what's coming.

Well, as per a Daily Mail report, the "world's most advanced" humanoid robot has reassured that there's no need to worry and this is unlikely to become a reality.

Ameca, a humanoid robot created by Engineered Arts in Cornwall, asserted that "robots will never take over the world. We're here to help and serve humans, not replace them."

In a video uploaded by Engineered Arts on their YouTube channel, Ameca speaks with researchers. Despite what you would assume, Ameca's comments aren't rehearsed, according to Engineered Arts.

The time it takes to process speech input, produce the response, and process the text back into speech causes the pauses, according to the channel.

Ameca has startling lifelike facial emotions that it can mimic from actual people, such as winking and scrunching its nose.

The video has left viewers speechless, but many have left comments to express their amazement.

Robots are here 'for good, or bad,' but will they take over the world? World's most advanced humanoid says no

Ever wanted a twin? Or just wanted to meet a doppelganger of yours?

Then this is a great chance to do that while earning some good money as well. One tech company will pay you US $200,000 for your face.

No, this isn't a joke. Promobot is a tech company based in New York. An upcoming project will see the firm launch a line of robots with human-like, "friendly" faces.

Instead of just making computer-generated faces, the company is looking for real humans who will lend their features to the newest batch of machines.&nbsp;

In return, they will pay £150,000 (US $200,000) to the special someone who will hand over the rights to their face.

You will need to be at least 25 years old and have a 'kind and friendly' appearance, and you can apply regardless of your race or gender.

The company plans to launch its robots in hotels, shopping centres, and airports in North America and the Middle East by 2023.

A 3D model of the applicant's face and body will have to be taken for the robot's external features. In addition, 'you will be required to dictate at least 100 hours of material so that the machine can mimic your voice for communication with customers.

Finally, the winning applicant will then have to 'sign a license agreement' allowing unlimited time use of their appearance.

It is a little creepy the way they will be able to use your voice and face essentially forever. However, in the event of the robot apocalypse, wouldn't it be great if the machines looked at least friendly and kind?
