<p>Although he has lost his legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard in the United Kingdom that has reportedly caused problems in his acting career, Johnny Depp will now get a second libel trial to show he didn’t physically abuse her, reports confirm.</p>

On Tuesday, a Virginia judge reportedly ruled that the decision last November in Depp’s suit against the publisher of The Sun shouldn’t impact his second case against Heard over an opinion-editorial piece published in the Washington Post.</p>

Amber Heard is being sued in that latter case over a December 2018 column where had written, “I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.”</p>

This suit in Virginia was expected to go to trial first, but owing to multiple delays, Depp’s U.K. case went on trail instead. &nbsp;<br />
In the U.K., the actor has sued over a news item that had labelled him a 'wife beater'. After a trial that lasted weeks, Judge Andrew Nicol found substantial truth to the article in The Sun, specifically with regards to 14 incidents that happened during the troubled marriage, reports said.</p>

The ruling, which Depp was unsuccessful in getting overturned through appeal, left him in the atypical position of arguing he didn’t get everything he wanted in the country, which has allegedly been the case for libel tourism since the burden of proof is on the defendant and not the complainant. Also, public figures needn’t show actual malice, says a report.</p>

Amber Heard, in turn, has argued that the Virginia court should recognize the U.K. court judgment, and since both actions centered on whether Depp was a domestic abuser, declare the matter already adjudicated.</p>

In an opinion on Tuesday, Fairfax County Chief Judge Penney Azcarate reportedly rejected Heard’s motion because of the lack of privity. While Heard may have argued that her interests were aligned with The Sun, the judge says those interests weren’t identical.</p>

"The Sun‘s interests were based on whether the statements the newspaper published were false," she has reportedly written. "(Heard’s) interests relate to whether the statements she published were false."</p>

In examining whether the U.S. and U.K. have judicial systems to the extent that Depp shouldn’t be in a state to re-litigate his claim of not being a domestic abuser, the judge later notes that Heard wasn’t a party in the U.K. case and wasn’t subject to the same discovery rules.&nbsp;</p>

"In fact, Defendant could not have been a named defendant to the U.K. litigation because her allegedly defamatory statements were made after the U.K. action commenced," the judge added.</p>

Last month, Heard’s lawyer argued that if Virginia court didn’t accept the U.K. judgment, there would be nothing to stop Depp from bringing new cases anytime any publication repeated words: that he was a 'wife beater'.</p>

"If anything, upholding English libel judgments in the United States would create the chilling effect and could create a dangerous precedent," the judge wrote.</p>

Reportedly, the trial is scheduled for early next year and will also examine Heard’s counterclaims.</p>

The agony of having loved and lost, and loved again, shines through Driver’s saggy skin and sad-looking eyes. This, and the finale episode, is inarguably the finest in ‘Modern Love 2’. Staying true to its essence, after all, ‘Modern Love’ is built on the foundation of faulty humans and troubled decisions, is ‘Second Embrace, With Hearts and Eyes Open’—the last one for this year. Sophie Okonedo’s amicably parted with her husband, while he is acing the ‘Best Daddy’ game, she seems to be ‘getting worse’. Despite the grin-able camaraderie, and a lot of hook-ups-between-exes, the climax leaves one with a sense of hopelessness—pretty much what we have been feeling all-year long, aren’t we?&nbsp;</p>

In the court documents, Hough has reportedly accused the &nbsp;couple of 'witness intimidation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, harassment, assault, battery, sexual assault, and sexual harassment'.</p>

The lawsuit, obtained by a global news organisation, shows a detailed report on how back in September of 1994, when Hough and Petty were both 16 and living in Jamaica, Queens (New York), she ran into him on her way to school when he later held her at knifepoint, led her into a nearby house and raped her.&nbsp;</p>

Petty was arrested that day for first-degree rape and later pleaded guilty to attempted rape, says the same report. He was sentenced to 18 to 54 months in prison.</p>

On February 25 last year, Petty was charged for failing to register as a sex offender, which is a requirement under the 2006 Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).&nbsp;</p>

He was later added to the California Megan’s Law database, which tracks sex offenders in the state of California, where Petty and Minaj reside with their son, whom the rapper gave birth to last year.&nbsp;</p>

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced in March 2020 that the charges were dropped against Petty, but if he were to be convicted of the same felony charge, he would face up to 10 years in prison, which is the statutory maximum.</p>

The New York State department has labelled Petty as a level-two sex offender, meaning it deems him as a moderate risk to reoffend, based on the 1994 attempted rape conviction.</p>

<p>On Thursday, a Los Angeles judge again rejected one of 11 sexual assault counts in an indictment of Harvey Weinstein, reports said.</p>

Two weeks ago, Judge Lisa B. Lench dismissed the count of sexual battery by restraint as ‘too old’ and outside the statute of limitations, but had allowed the district attorney’s office to amend the allegation against the 69-year-old former movie tycoon and convicted rapist.</p>

But on Thursday, the judge found that neither of the two attempts at an amended complaint from prosecutors solved the problem, and so she rejected the count again.</p>

<p><br />
However, the judge gave the prosecutors something to work with on the dismissed count situation, saying that if they reconvene the grand jury and get it to return a new indictment for it, she may accept it. But no specific instruction—as to how the approach should be—was offered by her.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The rejected count dates back to May of 2010. And Harvey Weinstein was first charged with it in January 2020, before the statute of limitations had expired. Prosecutors then got an indictment from a grand jury on an identical count six months later, when the time had lapsed.</p>

<p><br />
“The people are grasping to try to save something that is unsalvageable. “They did it, they blew it, they can’t fix it,” Weinstein attorney Alan Jackson said in court.&nbsp;</p>

<p><br />
The judge also agreed with that the grand jury indictment was a new prosecution, and therefore was coming too late.<br />
However, the prosecutors argued that it was a continuation of the same case.</p>

<p><br />
The counts maybe a small part of the case, as reports call it, but dismissing the same removes one of five accusers from Weinstein’s forthcoming trial.</p>

“Today’s a great example of why we need judges with a backbone… and juries with a tough spine to stand up against false accusations,” Weinstei’s &nbsp;attorney Mark Werksman reportedly said outside court.</p>

<p><br />
In a statement sent to an entertainment portal, Weinstein’s representative said, “We are pleased that the judge agreed that one of the charges alleged was barred by the statute of limitations. It remains dismissed and, given the statute and the fact that Harvey maintains his innocence of the charges, it never should have been brought in the first place. We consider this a partial victory, but know there is quite the road ahead. Harvey remains optimistic and hopeful, and must focus on his health right now.”</p>

Still intact are four counts of rape and six other sexual assault counts. Weinstein pleaded not guilty to all of them last month in his first court appearance in the California case. He was extradited from New York, where he is serving a 23-year sentence for convictions of rape and sexual assault.</p>

Weinstein’s attorneys will seek to reject many of them, and more technical fights are likely to come as they attempt to erode the case against him.</p>

The counts maybe a small part of the case, as reports call it, but dismissing the same removes one of five accusers from Weinstein’s forthcoming trial. “Today’s a great example of why we need judges with a backbone… and juries with a tough spine to stand up against false accusations,” Weinstei’s attorney Mark Werksman reportedly said outside court. In a statement sent to an entertainment portal, Weinstein’s representative said, “We are pleased that the judge agreed that one of the charges alleged was barred by the statute of limitations. It remains dismissed and, given the statute and the fact that Harvey maintains his innocence of the charges, it never should have been brought in the first place. We consider this a partial victory, but know there is quite the road ahead. Harvey remains optimistic and hopeful, and must focus on his health right now.” Still intact are four counts of rape and six other sexual assault counts. Weinstein pleaded not guilty to all of them last month in his first court appearance in the California case. He was extradited from New York, where he is serving a 23-year sentence for convictions of rape and sexual assault. Weinstein’s attorneys will seek to reject many of them, and more technical fights are likely to come as they attempt to erode the case against him.

<p>Hollywood actress Maggie Q may have been recovering from a spine surgery while filming her action-thriller ‘The Protégé’—alongside Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson and others—but that did not stop her from doing her own stunts.</p>

“I wish I trained. I had spine surgery, like major spine surgery two and a half months before I had to be on set,” the actress reportedly told a leading entertainment website.&nbsp;</p>

Maggie went on to add that her doctor had told her she couldn't work for at least five months, but she'd already signed on to the movie and told him she would have to defy his orders. “He goes, 'But I don't want you to,' and I go, 'But I'm going to.' He was sweating and upset, and so, we had that little exchange and he knew that was it, he couldn't convince me.”</p>

The actress went to the set of ‘The Protégé’ assuming everyone knew about her recent medical rhistory, but that was not the case. “I went from like bed rest into rehearsals and I assumed everyone was aware of what had just happened to me. I said to the coordinator, 'So I just had this surgery and it was really, really hard on my body, so all that neck stuff, we're going to have to change it,'" she details. "And he goes, 'What surgery?' And I was like, 'No one told you that I had spine surgery?' And I've never seen a grown man want to cry in that way so immediately.”</p>

However, Maggie managed to pull off almost all of her stunts—98 per cent of them, she reportedly said. “There are a couple of things I didn't do for safety reasons but they weren't big things. Sometimes there are things you don't not do because you can't do them but because you shouldn't do them... We have to pick and choose our battles for insurance reasons and just to be safe and healthy,” said Maggie Q.</p>

“You don't want to do things that are stupid. When I was in my 20s and started in Hollywood, I was stupid. Super stupid. I would want to do things that were absolutely ridiculous risk-wise. J.J. Abrams was like holding me down, like, 'Absolutely no way are you doing this stunt,' and then my double did it, and she's one of the best in the business and she broke her ankle. So you got to have boundaries,” concluded the actor.</p>
