From Rajasthan Royals to Chennai Super Kings - List of IPL winners

Former Australia cricketer and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Tom Moody feels the rain break helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their thrilling five-wicket win over defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2023 final, which ended in the wee hours on Tuesday (May 30) in Ahmedabad. After opting to bowl first in the summit clash, MS Dhoni & Co. were in for a leather hunt as GT rode on Wriddhiman Saha's 39-ball 54 and Sai Sudharsan's classy 47-ball 96 to post 214/4. In reply, Chennai started the run-chase being 4 for no loss in three balls before a lengthy rain break halted proceedings for over two hours.

After play resumed, CSK got a revised target -- 171 in 15 overs -- which they chased down with quickfire knocks from Ruturaj Gaikwad (16-ball 26), Devon Conway's 25-ball 47, Ajinkya Rahane's 13-ball 27, Ambati Rayudu's 9-ball 18. Shivam Dube's 21-ball 32* and 6-ball 15 not out from Ravindra Jadeja. With 10 needed off the last two balls, Jadeja ended proceedings with a six and a four, off Mohit Sharma (3 for 36), as CSK lifted their fifth IPL trophy. Moody feels CSK got the advantage with the rain break and made full use of it.

'Rain delay definitely gave CSK the advantage'

“That rain delay definitely gave CSK the advantage. Therefore, the toss, and batting second, played out in their favour. To me, the total they had to chase with a reduced number of overs was more favourable than the total that they actually would have had to chase if it was a full game,” said Moody.

After CSK's win, Dhoni also opened up on his IPL future and said that there is a possibility for him to return for IPL 2024. At the post-match presentation, he said, "Circumstantially if you see, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say "Thank you very much", but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another nine months and come back and play at least one more season of IPL. A lot depends on the body, I have 6-7 months to decide. It will be more like a gift from my side, it's not easy for me but that's a gift. The way they've shown their love and affection, I think that's something I need to do for them."

Rain delay definitely gave CSK the advantage vs GT, says Tom Moody after MS Dhoni & Co. win IPL 2023 final

After three days of unbelievable drama, Chennai Super Kings emerged on the top as they beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets to lift their fifth IPL title – joint-most with Mumbai Indians. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad erupted in joy after CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja smashed ten off the last two balls to help his team cross the line.

The match that was supposed to start and finish on May 28th began a day later, on May 29th, while the result came the next day - May 30th.
Batting first in this rain-hit contest, Gujarat got off to a flying start, with both openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha stitching another fifty-plus stand for the first wicket. After Dhoni affected an incredible stumping to dismiss Gill, left-hander batter Sai Sudharsan came to the crease and decided to make this evening his own.

Alongside Saha, who became the oldest player to score a fifty in an IPL final, Sai slammed every CSK bowler to all parts of the ground, and courtesy of his record-breaking 96 off 47 balls, which included eight fours and six sixes, Gujarat put up a mammoth 214 for four in 20 overs.

CSK’s innings began with a four before rain halted the play for nearly three hours. After several rain interruptions and inspections that followed, play resumed past mid night, with CSK needing 171 to win from 15 overs.

Following a brilliant start, CSK's both openers got out to Noor Ahmad, after which Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu – the man who was playing his last IPL game, brought Chennai closer to the chase with quickfire cameos. Shivam Dube also contributed with handy sixes, but what was disappointing was MS Dhoni getting out on a first-ball duck off Mohit Sharma.

Ravindra Jadeja then kept his cool and scored ten off last two balls to help CSK beat GT by five wickets and lift the IPL 2023 trophy.

ALSO READ: IPL 2023 Final: MS Dhoni's CSK beat defenders GT on last ball of rain-marred contest to win fifth title Alongside Saha, who became the oldest player to score a fifty in an IPL final, Sai slammed every CSK bowler to all parts of the ground, and courtesy of his record-breaking 96 off 47 balls, which included eight fours and six sixes, Gujarat put up a mammoth 214 for four in 20 overs. 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦! Two shots of excellence and composure! IPL 2023: Twitter erupts in joy as Chennai Super Kings win 5th IPL title

Fair to say everyone is taking note of Hardik Pandya – the captain. After leading his IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans to successive finals in two years since getting inducted into the league, Hardik has made the right noises as a leader. Upon delivering both as a player and a skipper in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians, Hardik has pressed his case as a future white-ball captain of the Indian team.

With nine wins from 14 matches this season, the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, bagged first place in the points tally. Though they lost Qualifier 1 against Chennai Super Kings by 15 runs, they came back stronger in their game against Mumbai Indians – winning the all-important clash by a massive 62-run margin.

Opener Shubman Gill smashed his third IPL century in four innings to help GT book the final ticket for the second straight time.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, despite not excelling with either the bat or ball throughout the season, has ensured his role as a captain keeps everyone talking about him. His bowling changes against Mumbai impressed all, and Michael Vaughan was no different.

Speaking on Cricbuzz as an IPL expert, Vaughan made a huge statement regarding Hardik’s future.

Gujarat Titans have cruised to their second successive IPL final, and this time, all credit goes to star opener Shubman Gill, who notched up his third hundred of the season. In the rain-hit Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023, Shubman scored a brilliant 129 off 60 balls – an innings GT captain Hardik Pandya calls the best he has ever seen in this format.

Hardik showered praises on the franchise's future superstar, saying the clarity with which Gill has batted this season, he deserves to touch the skies. The right-handed opener surpassed RCB captain Faf du Plessis for the Orange Cap already, as he has amassed 851 runs in 16 matches at an average of 60.79 and a strike rate of 156.43.

Following the match, Hardik said, "The clarity this year he has. The confidence that he is carrying is amazing. The innings which I saw today was one of the finest innings I have seen in a T20 game."

After being asked to bat first, Gujarat got off to a flyer, with Gill chipping in with fours early on. However, after he got dropped on 30 by Tim David, Gill switched gears and went bonkers, slamming every bowler for boundaries. His third ton (129) in four innings, which also happens to be the highest individual score in IPL playoffs, helped GT put up a mammoth 233 for three in 20 overs.

The man in sublime touch had made batting look utterly easy - something Pandya also agrees to.

"At no point in time, he looked rushed, at no point he looked like he was not in control. It looked as if someone was throwing down the balls and he was just hitting. He is a superstar and is going to do big things to franchise cricket and Indian cricket," Hardik added.

Gujarat set up a summit clash with CSK

234 was never going to be easy to chase, given the stage, the pressure, and what was at stake. Mumbai, unlikely how they had batted in the lead-up to this game, looked under pressure and lost early wickets. While Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green suffered injuries, with Ishan getting ruled out due to concussion, MI had little to rely on during the chase.

However, their star performer Suryakumar Yadav and emerging left-hander Tilak Varma did play counter-attacking innings, this mountain score proved too much for the former champions, as eventually they crumbled under pressure and fell shy of the target by 62 runs.

Mohit Sharma picked up five wickets for ten runs, while Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami returned with two wickets each.

Afghanistan will tour India for a short three-match ODI series following the World Test Championship 2023 Final. While the schedule of the Afghanistan series is not announced yet, latest reports suggest the selectors will rest some of the biggies - including regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj.

Hardik Pandya will lead the new-look Indian team.

As quoted in the PTI, the selection committee will pick a second-string squad for the Afghanistan series, which could take place before India’s tour of the West Indies in early July. While earlier, there were talks of the series getting scrapped because of the limited window, the board will now go ahead with it.

With all first-team players gearing up for the WTC Final against Australia and looking at the cramped schedule ahead of the 2023 World Cup later this year, the board has decided to manage the workload of the top names in the circuit.

While the ongoing IPL 2023 is consuming for each of them in its way, the Indian team has a long tour of the West Indies after that – that include two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is from July 12th to August 13th. The Men in Blue will then travel to Ireland for a three-match T20Is before getting ready for the Asia Cup – whose future is also in limbo.

ACC board members are also expected to be in India this weekend for the IPL final, and this is where the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) President, Mirwais Ashraf and BCCI secretary Jay Shah could sit together and decide on the dates for the mini-white-ball series.

Kohli, and Rohit could be rested for the Ireland series

Following IPL 2023, where around a handful of young players, like every year, emerged as top performers, they will be given an extended run on the Ireland tour. Some names that are on BCCI’s radar looking at next year’s T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies are Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma.

As a result, the board might consider resting some of the top players like Virat, Rohit and Shami for this series with one eye on the Asia Cup, which will take place during the August-September window.

However, after that, Australia will travel to India for a short white-ball series, and then the 2023 Men’s World Cup begins on October 5th – whose schedule will also be announced after the end of IPL 2023.

ALSO READ: WTC Final 2023: ICC announces prize money, winner to take home a whopping $1.6 million While the ongoing IPL 2023 is consuming for each of them in its way, the Indian team has a long tour of the West Indies after that – that include two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is from July 12th to August 13th. Kohli, and Rohit could be rested for the Ireland series Following IPL 2023, where around a handful of young players, like every year, emerged as top performers, they will be given an extended run on the Ireland tour. IND vs AFG 2023: Hardik Pandya set to lead new-look Indian team, biggies to be rested - Reports

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Panyda said his team made basic errors despite being spot on with the ball and that's why they lost the first qualifier against Chennai Super Kings.

After electing to field first, GT restricted CSK to a modest 172 on a dry Chepauk pitch but kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually lost the game by 15 runs.

"I think we were quite spot on [with the ball], but we made basic errors. And I think that cost us the game. After the first innings, the kind of wicket and at the same point of time the kind of bowlers we had, I felt we exactly went 15 runs above the score where we should have stopped them," said Pandya after the loss.

Bowled a couple of soft balls

Pandya, while praising his bowlers, said that GT bowled a couple of soft balls in between, and also that dew which GT were hoping for never came in.

"A lot of things we did right. I think it's just that we bowled a couple of soft balls in between. We were executing quite some plans and all of a sudden in between we gave some runs ... where we must have given soft balls," said Pandya.

"No, no, I don't think so," Hardik said when asked if he regretted his decision at the toss. "You know regrets are not good in life. We expected dew might come. It did not come but still I think we gave 15 runs extra and as a batting unit we lost wickets and we were always chasing the game.

"So overall I think in both departments we did not do the right things and I mean that's the reason I'm talking to you [as the losing captain] right now," he added.

Pandya praises Dhoni's smart decisions

The GT skipper was also full of praise about bowling decision taken by CSK skipper MS Dhoni which made the target feel like 10 runs extra than the actual one.

"Yeah, see, that's the beauty of him. With his mind, and the kind of way he uses the bowlers, he will make sure that you feel like he is adding ten runs extra in the score. And you know, yeah, today [while] we kept losing wickets, he kept making sure that he used the right bowlers for the situation," concluded Hardik.

IPL 2023: MS Dhoni's CSK achieve unique feat after beating defending champions GT in Qualifier 1

Defending champions Gujarat Titans are all set to face Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, in Chennai. The teams, which finished 1-2, respectively, on the points table would like to cement a place in the final with a win, circumventing the path that goes through the second qualifier.

Before the match, Gujarat Titans, however, shared a video on their social media that showed the camaraderie between the two skippers - GT's Gujarat Giants and CSK's Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

"I'll always be a Mahendra Singh Dhoni fan and for so many fans out there and so many cricket lovers. You need to be a proper devil to hate Mahendra Singh Dhoni. A lot of people think Mahi is serious and all that. For me, I crack jokes and I don't see him as a Mahendra Singh Dhoni," Pandya said in the video.

"Obviously, I've learnt a lot of things from him, a lot of positive things, which I've learnt from him just while watching, not even much talking. For me, he's just my dear friend, dear brother, who I do pranks, who I chill," added the GT skipper. Have a look at the video here:

IPL 2023: 'I don't see him as MS Dhoni:' GT skipper Hardik Pandya ahead of qualifier 1 against CSK

After a riveting end to the league stage, Qualifier 1 of IPL 2023 will be held on Tuesday evening (May 23) with the defending champions Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) taking on the four-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Talking about the GT franchise, they finished at the top of the points table (with 20 points) whereas Dhoni & Co. ended at the second spot with 17 points from 14 games.

While GT have a 3-0 head-to-head record versus the Yellow Army, they will be wary of CSK's experience in the playoff stages of the premier T20 tournament. Chennai have played the most games in the playoffs (24) and won as many as 15 matches (most by any team). Thus, former Indian batter Virender Sehwag revealed the player who will be the trump card for Gujarat in their marquee clash versus Chennai. Sehwag feels Rashid Khan, currently the second-highest wicket-taker (24 scalps) in IPL 2023, will be Gujarat's trump card.

'Rashid Khan is the trump card for Gujarat'

"Rashid Khan is the trump card for Gujarat. If they want wickets, they bring him. And then the way Hardik has used Rashid, it is commendable. Rashid likes to break partnerships and now he has become the most successful bowler of this season on the basis of his excellent performance," Sehwag said while speaking ahead of Qualifier 1.

The Afghan spinner has churned out 24 wickets at an economy of 7.82 and an average of 18.25, including a hat-trick. He has contained runs as well as accounted for wickets in crunch situations. Rashid has also groomed fellow countryman and Gujarat teammate Noor Ahmad, who ended the league stage with 13 wickets in ten games.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar analysed both teams, while part of the same panel, and said, "Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans have been very similar teams tactically. Both these teams don't look to make too much of changes and the leadership group keeps the atmosphere light in the dressing room. The battle between these two in playoffs will be an interesting one."

IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag names Hardik Pandya-led GT's trump card ahead of Qualifier 1 vs CSK

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri says that Hardik Pandya is going to be India's next T20I captain in the long run and the change could come as soon as after the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Shastri opined that, "the next two World Cups [after the ODI WC] are T20 cricket. He's already [standby] captain of India [in T20Is], so he will continue unless he is not fit. I think they [the selectors] will look into a new direction. There's a lot of talent among the youth at the moment. You might have a pretty much new team; there will be some new faces if not a new team."

Shastri explained his logic behind the selection of Hardik as skipper and evoked MS Dhoni's appointment as skipper in 2007 as an example.

Also Read: Rockstar Rashid Khan calls knock against Mumbai Indians his 'most memorable innings'

"I feel they will go the 2007 route, where they will identify talent, and Hardik will have lots of choices when it comes to the selection," Shastri said. "Because his ideas will be different; he has played the IPL as a captain of a franchise and seen a lot of the other players. He will have his inputs," said Shastri.

When asked about the workload management issue, Shastri was clear about it as he said that Panday isn't playing all three formats so it shouldn't be a problem.

"It is not that he is playing three formats. "Everything now is separate. You have Test matches, so the moment a Test series comes, he gets a corridor of a month to rest and recuperate. He is supremely confident about his own ability. The fact that he is fully fit now makes a massive difference. Form plays an important role. When he is fit, then he is arguably one of the best T20 players in the world."

Notably, many of India's current superstars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in their late thrities and with not many years left ahead of them, India definitely need to look for options.

You might have a pretty much new team; there will be some new faces if not a new team." Shastri explained his logic behind the selection of Hardik as skipper and evoked MS Dhoni's appointment as skipper in 2007 as an example. Also Read: Rockstar Rashid Khan calls knock against Mumbai Indians his 'most memorable innings' "I feel they will go the 2007 route, where they will identify talent, and Hardik will have lots of choices when it comes to the selection," Shastri said. When he is fit, then he is arguably one of the best T20 players in the world." Notably, many of India's current superstars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in their late thrities and with not many years left ahead of them, India definitely need to look for options. Former coach Ravi Shastri picks Hardik Pandya to be India's next T20I captain

Former India head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has backed ex-Mumbai Indians star Hardik Panyda when he makes his return to the Wankhede Stadium with Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday, May 12. Hardik, who won four titles with MI will look to get one better on his former side as the skipper of the defending champions. GT are top of the pile in the IPL standings and look good to make the playoffs while they can dent MI's chances with a win on Friday.

"Hardik's homecoming will be emotional. He will play a crucial match against the team at the ground where he rose to stardom. Hardik would like to prove a lot by leading his team to victory. This match will be really interesting as it will not be easy for GT to beat MI at their home and then MI would like to equalize the defeat in Ahmedabad and take a strong step towards the playoffs," Ravi Shastri said on Hardik’s return to Wankhede Stadium.

Hardik has enjoyed a stellar spell at GT having led them to the IPL title in 2022 and is well on course for another shot. They currently sit top of the league standings with 16 points with a win all but confirming GT’s passage into the playoffs. A win at the Wankhede Stadium will see Hardik’s side make the top two, which will give them an opportunity to make the final on two occasions.

IPL 2023: LSG captain Krunal Pandya laments leaking 20 extra runs as Hardik wins battle of brothers

Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) occupy the top spot in the IPL 2023 points table at present. Ahead of their marquee clash with Rajasthan Royals (RR), on Friday evening (May 05), former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock shared some words of advice for Hardik.

Hardik has not had a great run with the bat this season. He has scored 213 runs at a strike rate of 117.03 with two fifties. Even in GT's five-run loss to DC, Hardik scored a 53-ball 59 but failed to accelerate when needed during the 131-run chase. Pollock backed Hardik to bat at No. 3, something which he is doing for the past few games, but feels he needs to change gears when needed and run hard between wickets.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former pacer said, "I don't think in his [Hardik Pandya's] role of the Gujarat Titans he needs to go down. If he was at Mumbai, he would probably still do it because of the firepower they have. I saw some good performances from him last year."

IPL 2023: 'Hardik Pandya is a class player but...' - Former SA captain suggests GT skipper ahead of RR tie

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya blamed himself after a shocker of a loss against Delhi Capitals. Notably, Delhi defended a paltry score of 130 and won by five runs at GT's home ground in Ahmedabad.

"I tried my best but could not capitalise. It boils down to me. Obviously, we would have taken 129 on any given day. (We) just lost a couple of wickets and at the end, Rahul (Tewatia) got us back in the game," he said at the post-match presentation.

"I don't think the [track] played much role. It was a tad slower than what we are used to here. But they bowled really well. We lost a couple of early wickets and then we had to take some time. We could not get the rhythm in the middle. Rahul brought us back into the game. Otherwise, they were quite ahead," added Hardik.

"I feel sorry for (Shami)," Pandya sighed. “If you bowl like that, then you restrict the team to 129 (130), I think (our) batters are disappointed. I don't think the ball did a lot. But the way he bowled four on the trot and got us in the game, full credit (to him). As I said, batters and particularly myself did not finish and we disappointed him,” he added.

Hardik's comments came after his unbeaten 53-ball 59 couldn't take his team home. Rahul Tewatia (20 off 7), as Pandya mentioned, turned the game around with three back-to-back sixes off Anrich Nortje in the penultimate over of the chase but GT couldn't capitalise on it as it failed to hunt down 12 runs in the final over.

IPL 2023: Skipper Hardik Pandya opens up on GT's shocking loss vs DC, says 'it boils down to me'

Delhi Capitals (DC) have kept their slim hopes of playoff alive after they beat Gujarat Titans (GT) in a low-scoring thriller in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Defending a low-scoring total of 131, DC had Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma as they scalped two wickets each while restricting GT to 125/6 and thus winning the contest by five runs. The win for GT means they fail to move clear of the 10-point traffic jam pack and will have to put on a show to make the last four.

DC defend low score

While the season has been a titanic struggle for DC, they were on the brink of another defeat having been restricted to 130/8. Chasing 131, GT lost wickets at regular intervals as the likes of Shubman Gill (6) and Wriddhiman Saha (0) failed to make any impression. GT lost three key wickets in the powerplay as Vijay Shankar (6) also departed for a low score.

The bowling attack of Ishant Sharma and Khaleel Ahmed proved to be lethal as David Miller (0) also failed to make an impression.

Skipper Hardik Pandya (59) held one end for the home side but could produce the desired batting attack which saw GT fall short. In the end, Rahul Tewatia, 20 off 7 almost produced another cameo knock to win the contest for GT. He scored three sixes to take the contest to the final over but with 12 to get off the final over, Tewatia was dismissed leaving Hardik Pandya helpless.

IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals keep slim playoff hopes alive in yet another low-scoring thriller against GT

Team India retained their top spot in the latest ICC T20I rankings released on Tuesday (May 02). India have been dominating the top spot in the shortest format and bolstered their position as they now lead second-ranked and current T20 champions England by eight points. Meanwhile, the likes of New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa occupy the third, fourth and fifth spots respectively.

India have been very consistent in T20Is since 2020 despite not having a great run in the last two T20 World Cups. In 2021, the Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue bowed out of the Super 10 round whereas India, under Rohit Sharma, reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 WC but crashed out with a ten-wicket loss at the hands of eventual winners England. Since last year's T20 WC, in Australia, India have been led by Hardik Pandya as Rohit, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and few other seniors have not featured in the shortest format, to concentrate on the longer formats due to the upcoming WTC final, in June, and ODI World Cup later this year.

Under Hardik, India defeated the likes of New Zealand (both home and away) and Sri Lanka in the shortest format.

Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) beat five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) in match 35 of the IPL 2023 edition on Tuesday (April 25). Being asked to bat first, in Ahmedabad, the defending champions rode on Shubman Gill's 56, David Miller and Abhinav Manohar's 46 (22) and 42 (21) respectively and Rahul Tewatia's 5-ball 20* to post 207 for 6.

In reply, GT restricted the Rohit Sharma-led MI line-up for 152 for 9 to lose by 55 runs. After the game, former Indian captain-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra lauded Hardik's captaincy skills and feels he is growing and maturing with each game.

Chopra said on JioCinema, "It's hard to win a match from a defensive position, we've seen this in the TATA IPL. The point about captaincy was very salient. The game started with fast bowlers bowling quite often with discipline due to the movement of the ball. Soon after, spinners were introduced at the right time. They made an error last game (versus Rajasthan Royals) in judging the dew and brought Noor at the end and Hetmyer punished him."

He added, "He learned from that and ensured Noor's overs were done earlier. Rashid and Noor, two spinners with five wickets, and Hardik's captaincy just seems to keep improving. IPL 2023: 'Hardik Pandya is growing and maturing as captain' - Former Indian opener after GT beat MI

Match 35 of the IPL 2023 edition, on Tuesday (April 25), saw the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) take on the five-time winners Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. Hardik Pandya & Co. rode on Shubman Gill's 56, blistering knocks from David Miller, Abhinav Manohar and Rahul Tewatia to post their highest total, 207 for 6, and beat MI by 55 runs.

Being asked to bat first, the IPL 2022 winners were off to a slow start and lost Wriddhiman Saha early. Gill looked in his elements with some sublime hits and upped the ante -- taking on Cameron Green -- but lost skipper Hardik for 13 (13). Against the run of play, Gill departed for a 34-ball 56. Piyush Chawla was impressive once again as he applied the brakes on GT's scoring rate and dismissed Hardik and Vijay Shankar.

However, Miller (22-ball 46) and Manohar (21-ball 42) attacked Riley Meredith, Chawla and Green before Tewatia (5-ball 20*) joined in as GT managed 77 runs off the last five overs. In pursuit of 208, MI lost captain Rohit for cheap (2). Ishan Kishan struggled against the early movement and overall disciplined bowling from Shami-Hardik whereas Green fell for a 26-ball 33.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar turned 50 on Monday, April 24th, and his fans, colleagues, ex-players, and even stars outside of cricket have shared birthday wishes on their social media handles. In between these years, not only did he create records that are likely to stay till eternity, but Sachin also inspired a whole generation to pick up bats and start reading the newspaper from the last page, the sports section.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar turned 50 on Monday, April 24th, and his fans, colleagues, ex-players, and even stars outside of cricket have shared birthday wishes on their social media handles. While in India Sachin is considered nothing less than a cricketing God, the veteran batter is also famous among other sporting athletes, be it in football or even WWE. The most prolific run-scorer in the game, Sachin made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989 and went on to represent India for the next 24 years, playing his last game in Indian colours against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup. In between these years, not only did he create records that are likely to stay till eternity, but Sachin also inspired a whole generation to pick up bats and start reading the newspaper from the last page, the sports section. From Ravi Shastri to Triple H, Twitter showers praise on Sachin Tendulkar as Master Blaster turns 50

Gujarat Titans were sailing smoothly until two quick wickets derailed their innings only for skipper Hardik Pandya to unleash hell on Lucknow Super Giants' Ravi Bishnoi.

Titans were 102/4 after 17 overs with Pandya batting on 40 off 41 and David Miller on non-strike with 2 off 5. Ravi Bishnoi came on to ball the 18th over and gave away just two singles of the first two balls. Pandya, however, then switched the gears as he took Bishnoi to cleaners, hitting him for a four and a couple of sixes on the next three balls.

IPL 2023: GT skipper Hardik Pandya goes 4,6,6 against LSG's Ravi Bishnoi - WATCH

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition is churning out thrilling contests with each passing day. In match 23, the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) locked horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday (April 16). Having a 3-0 lead over the Royals, Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat aimed to continue their winning streak over last year's finalists but Sanju Samson & Co. emerged on top by three wickets in a tight contest.

In a high-voltage encounter, RR opted to bowl first and restricted Gujarat to 177 for 7. Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, returning with 2 for 25 whereas the likes of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharshan, Abhinav Manohar, Hardik and David Miller got starts to take their side to a competitive score. In reply, RR were 47 for 3 and 55 for 4 before Sanju Samson (32-ball 60) and Shimron Hetymer's unbeaten 56 off 26 balls propelled their side to a stunning three-wicket win on the final over. When RR was reeling early in the run-chase, captain Hardik tried to get into the skin of his counterpart Samson by sledging.

After a poor start, RR captain Samson exploded by hitting three successive sixes off Rashid Khan in the 13th over. While he fellf for a well-made 60, Hetymer took upon himself to take his side past the finish line whereas the likes of Dhruv Jurel (10-ball 18) and R Ashwin (3-ball 10) played their part as well with timely hits.

At the post-match presentation, Samson said, "When you play quality opponents on a quality wicket, you get such games. Very happy to compete in such a game and come out on top. It was important to rotate our bowlers, they were playing some quality cricket and we had to respect that. The whole team came up well today and we could restrict them to around 170. The start we had, it shows how good a wicket this was. The new ball the quality of swing bowling was good and we had to respect that. But today Zampa coming was a way to match-up with the opponents. He was the match-up for Miller and almost got the wicket, but the catch was dropped. (On Hetmyer) He doesn't like easy situations, we like putting him in such situations because he usually wins us games from such situations."

RR remain at the top after their win over GT, having eight points from five games.

(On Hetmyer) He doesn't like easy situations, we like putting him in such situations because he usually wins us games from such situations." RR remain at the top after their win over GT, having eight points from five games.

IPL 2023: GT skipper Hardik Pandya reveals he was interested in joining LSG

On Thursday (April 13), the Punjab Kings (PBKS) hosted the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali in what is match 18 of IPL 2023. After a loss versus the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at home, GT are eager to get back to winning ways and move ahead in the points table. At the coin toss, Hardik Pandya returned to the playing XI after missing his side's previous tie (for being unwell), and reflected on their unbelievable defeat after Rinku Singh's heroics propelled KKR to a three-wicket triumph.

In match 13, GT hosted KKR at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. Riding on fifties from Sai Sudharsan and Vijay Shankar, the hosts posted 204 for 4. In reply, KKR was well-placed, at 128 for 2, courtesy of Venkatesh Iyer's 83 (40) and skipper Nitish Rana's 45 (29) before stand-in captain Rashid Khan's hat-trick turned the game in GT's favour. Needing 29 off the last over, left-hander Rinku slammed five sixes on the trot (off Yash Dayal) to take his side past the finish line in a memorable run-chase.

Thus, Hardik reflected on his side's shocking defeat against KKR on Thursday evening. After electing to bowl first versus Punjab, he said, "Just looks like a good wicket, and from whatever I've seen it's good to chase. Was a one-in-a-million defeat. We are a kind of team that takes it with a smile. Played good cricket until that last over. It happens. It's a fresh game. We'll come out and smile, and throw some punches."

IPL 2023: GT skipper Hardik Pandya fined for slow over-rate in PBKS win; joins Sanju Samson in offence

Gujarat Titans (GT) returned to winning ways in IPL 2023 edition on Thursday evening (April 13). Locking horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali, GT restricted Shikhar Dhawan & Co. to 153 for 8 and chased down the target in 19.5 overs with six wickets in hand. Although GT was on course to reach the target for most part of their run-chase, they were strechted by all means by the Punjab bowlers as the defending champions managed to edge past them on the penultimate ball of the contest.

Shubman Gill top-scored for GT, and overall, with a 49-ball 67 but could not remain unbeaten as Sam Curran rattled his stumps in the last over, with six required off the last four balls. While the in-form right-hander was at 35 off 22 balls, he took another 18 balls to reach the 50-run mark. Thus, he was criticised for being slow in the end overs, increasing the pressure and then succumbing to it in the final over. Eventually, Rahul Tewatia's timely hit (5 not out off 2 balls) sealed the deal for GT but former cricketer Virender Sehwag has slammed Gill's approach.

Sehwag said on Cricbuzz, "He scored 67 off 49 balls but when did he reach his fiifty? He reached his fifty off maybe 41-42 balls so in 7-8 balls he has scored 17 more runs. The accelration came there, after he had reached his fifty. If even that had not happened then GT would have chasing maybe 17 instead off 7 in the last over."

He further added, "You can't think let me score a fifty and we will anyway win the match. This is cricket. The moment you think about your own performance (instead of the team), you will get a tight slap from cricket. You can't think like that. If he had showed the same intent and played at close to a strike rate of 200 when he was nearing fifty then he could have reached his milestone a lot earlier and save more deliveries for his team."

Mumbai Indians star Tilak Varma adds another feather to his cap, joins hands with Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya

In match 7 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition, the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on Tuesday (April 04). The Hardik Pandya-led side put on a clinical display versus David Warner & Co. as the home side were asked to bat first. Riding on Mohammed Shami (2 for 41), Rashid Khan (3 for 31) and Alzarri Joseph (2 for 29), GT restricted DC for 162 for 8 and chased down the score with 13 balls to spare courtesy of Sai Sudharshan's 62 not out along with David Miller's 16-ball 31*.

After the game, the South African superstar Miller -- who joined the GT squad recently after the completion of his national duties -- heaped praise on captain Hardik. The 29-year-old has impressed one and all with his captaincy skills. He has managed his bowlers wisely, set aggressive fields and backed his troops to the core. Miller, thus, lauded Hardik for instilling a lot of confidence in the squad.

“Hardik is definitely one of the top players I have worked with. I have been very privileged to work under him. My first captain in the IPL was Adam Gilchrist, so very privileged to be in this position. We never really knew Hardik last year, but got to know him off the field. He is his own person and instills a lot of confidence within the squad. He’s a huge team man and makes a lot of time for the younger guys,” Miller told the reporters.

At the post-match presentation, Hardik told the broadcasters, "It was funny at the start, we didn't know exactly what was happening but something was happening. We gave 15-20 runs extra in the powerplay. The way the bowlers pulled back was amazing. I go with my instinct, I like to back myself. I would rather back my own decision and fall down rather than thinking something else. Most often, I rather punch first rather than take the punch. We tell the boys to enjoy there. It helps you take the right decisions. Someone's putting their hand up. We have spoken about this. Taking care of each other is more important. He (Sai Sudharsan) is been batting terrifically. Credit to the support staff and to him as well. The amount of batting he's done in the last 15 days, all the result you see is all his hard work. Going forward, if I'm not wrong, in two years, he'll do something great for franchise cricket and eventually for India cricket as well."

GT lead the points table, with four wins in two games, and will next face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Ahmedabad on Sunday (April 09).
