<h2>24-hour strike</h2>

The strike on Wednesday was called by Greece’s largest public-sector union ADEDY which represents around half a million workers.&nbsp;

However, over the day, many others, including students joined the march and wrote the names of the people who lost their lives in front of the heavily guarded parliament.&nbsp;

Brief clashes were also reported between police and protesters in Athens and during a similar protest in Thessaloniki. &nbsp;

The union workers, including air traffic controllers, taxi drivers and public transport workers, were also protesting against what they said were insufficient pay rises, the first after 14 years in the public sector.&nbsp;

They said that the increases were not enough to offset the impact of rising living costs and called for a 10 per cent across-the-board hike.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Day of pain’</h2>

“Today is a day of pain,” Antonis Psaropoulos, whose 19-year-old daughter Marthi died in the collision, told AFP. “For all of us, time stopped on February 28, 2023, a cursed day... a black hole in time,” Psaropoulos added.&nbsp;

“We held discussions on finalising the mobility and migration partnership agreement as soon as possible. This will help emboldening our people-to-people partnership," PM Modi said in a press conference after the talks.

The historic law has given the right to wed and adopt children to same-sex couples, decades after the LGBT community campaigned for marriage equality in the socially conservative country. 
 
Even though civil partnerships for gay couples were introduced by Greece nearly a decade ago under the left-wing Syriza government, the government recognised only the biological parents of children in those relationships as legal guardians.

However, as per the new law, same-sex parents can now be recognised as legal parents of the children.

Two men and a woman were killed before the shooter barricaded himself inside, reported the news agency AFP citing sources.

Police spokeswoman Konstantina Dimoglidou said the owner of European Product Carriers was among those killed. The gunman, the 76-year-old former employee was later found dead in another area of the building, said the police.&nbsp;

The alleged shooter “was the weapon of his unlawful act and he had probably shot himself,” said Dimoglidou. The police also found two women, unharmed, who had been locked in a bathroom during the attack.&nbsp;

“We were at our desks working, we heard shots,” an employee who did not identify herself told the Proto Thema. She also said that the gunman had told employees to leave.

"The suspected perpetrator, who worked for the family, was found dead in a different area from the three deceased people at the company," said&nbsp;Dimoglidou.&nbsp;

She added, "He had his assault weapon next to him and appears to have shot himself in the head."&nbsp;

The officials in Greece have cordoned off the area and said they were investigating the incident.

Shootings, outside of gang-related activity, are rare in Greece due to the country’s strict laws over gun possession.

Speaking about any particular works which have been requested by London, the minister - who is a classical archaeologist by training - said that the discussions between the two countries have not extended to “specific artefacts”.
