It was yet another disappointing outing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) home ground M. A. Chidambaram Stadium as they failed to win on the opening day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. A defeat that sees RCB winless at the coveted home of their South Indian rivals since 2008 had a silver lining on the dark cloud despite making a good start to the match. After the defeat on Friday (Mar 22), skipper Faf du Plessis accepted that his team was always behind in the contest having lost momentum with the bat.

<h2>Faf reflects on defeat</h2>

"Unfortunately, we lost a little bit too many wickets in that first seven overs, which meant that the guys needed to bat a little bit and stable the innings again," du Plessis said on the official broadcast after the game.

"And, at the end, I felt we were 15 or 20 runs short on a pitch that wasn't as bad as we played in the first ten overs," he further said.

"When you play here, you feel like you have to almost get ahead of the game a little bit in that first six overs because CSK is a very good team in the middle overs. For so many years, they squeeze you with the spinners,"&nbsp;du Plessis added.

<h2>CSK make winning start</h2>

Having won the toss, RCB made a good start with Faf (35 off 23) and Virat Kohli (21 off 20) putting CSK bowlers under pressure, however, a spell of three wickets in two overs completely changed the landscape of the innings. The visitors were soon narrowed to 42/3 despite being 41/0 and looking in good nick. The poor spell saw Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar depart for ducks before a late rescue act from wicketkeeper-batter Anuj Rawat (48 off 25) and veteran Dinesh Karthik (38 off 26) saw RCB end with 173/6.

However, the total was not enough with CSK too making a good start with the bat. In a complete team performance, everyone contributed with the bat as the home side won with eight balls to spare. Ruturaj Gaikwad (15), Rachin Ravindra (37 off 15), Ajinkya Rahane (27), Daryl Mitchell (22), Shivam Dube (unbeaten 34) and Ravindra Jadeja (unbeaten 25), helped CSK steer to an opening day victory.

CSK next take on Gujarat Titans&nbsp;at the same venue in Chennai on Tuesday. On the other hand, RCB will look to get their first win of the season when they next take on Punjab Kings in their first home game of the season on Monday in Bengaluru.

IPL 2024: Faf du Plessis excited ahead of CSK vs RCB curtain raiser; says Dhoni, Virat are key attractions

Ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 edition, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis recalled how he hit it off with Virat Kohli at his first session with the franchise ahead of the 2022 season. Notably, the South African joined the Bengaluru-based franchise two years back and replaced Kohli as the RCB captain.

Since his inclusion at RCB, Du Plessis and Kohli have forged a superb opening pair. The two have also worked well as leaders of the group. Recently, Du Plessis shared his relationship with Kohli and said in a Star Sports interview, "There are quite a few things that Virat and I are very similar, very alike in the way we see the game or think about the game, but also in how we look at ourselves and how we want to be."

"Obviously athletic, train hard, be fit, eat well. So we look at a holistic approach to being a professional sportsman and I think that's why we connected so well in my first season at RCB, we were very similar."

He added, "And yes he's amazing, he trains hard, he's very fit, and I feel like in today's age of sport you have to be like that if you're looking for longevity so he will be a great example for the younger generation that maybe feel like they can just come in and rely on their talent. Yes they are good enough in terms of talent but in terms of longevity in your body to make sure you can play for as long as possible, fitness will definitely play a role."

Kohli is currently out of international action and missed the entire home Tests versus England due to personal reasons. In mid-February, the superstar cricketer got blessed with a second child and is currently with wife Anushka Sharma and close family members. He is expected to join RCB squad soon for the upcoming IPL season.

IPL 2024: RCB captain Faf du Plessis recalls how he connected instantly with Virat Kohli

The IPL 2024 mini-auction is set to be held in Dubai on Dec 19. Ahead of the auction proceedings, many former cricketers and experts of the game are busy making bold predictions. All eyes are on the marquee players -- such as Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Starc, etc. -- as it will be interesting to see which franchise will end with a formidable line-up after the mini-auction. Amid all the auction hype, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan made a bold claim. He feels Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc will return to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2024.

While talking to Star Sports, Irfan opined, "I really think you might see Mitchell Starc playing for RCB because he was there before. They would want him there as well because being a left-armer, bowling 140-plus, having that extra pace in those types of pitches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium will be of utmost importance for RCB."

It is to be noted that Starc was part of the Virat Kohli-led RCB line-up from 2014 to 2015. He was in top form for the Bengaluru-based franchise, ending with 34 scalps in two seasons. However, he has not featured in the IPL since the 2015 edition. With the T20 World Cup 2024 edition set to be held soon after next year's IPL, starting early June in West Indies and USA, Starc is keen to get as many T20s under his belt and, hence, is set to return to the IPL this time around. It will be interesting to see if RCB manages to acquire his services once again, having already released Josh Hazlewood on the retention deadline day.&nbsp;

Starc was last seen in action during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, where he ended with 16 scalps -- eighth-most overall -- and was part of the Cummins-led Australia's victorious squad.&nbsp;

IPL 2024: Might see Mitchell Starc playing at RCB - Former India pacer Irfan Pathan's BOLD claim

Former South African captain Faf du Plessis has revealed that he and several other players cried inconsolably after the team lost the 2015 World Cup semifinal match against New Zealand.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Speaking ahead of the South Africa v New Zealand World Cup league encounter at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in&nbsp;Pune, Du Plessis made the revelation, adding that it was a rare instance in his cricketing career when he wept like that.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“When we were batting first and the rain comes, what people forget to mention is that all their front line bowlers were finished and we were definitely looking for 400. A shortened game brings someone like Brendon McCullum into the game and have a great start. We had one or two chances, it wasn’t all an unlucky game,” Du Plessis told host broadcaster Star Sports.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/cricket/odi-world-cup-2023-south-africa-not-carrying-choker-tag-insists-van-der-dussen-ahead-of-nz-game-653708">Also read |&nbsp;ODI World Cup 2023: South Africa not carrying 'choker' tag, insists Van der Dussen ahead of NZ game</a>

The match was a rain-curtailed affair. South Africa were stopped in the tracks when they looked all certain to put a 350+ total on the board. As a result, New Zealand were set a total according to the adjustments made under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) system. Riding on Grant Elliot's match-winning knock, NZ got over the line and South Africa had to endure a heartbreaking exit.&nbsp;

“But, after that game ‘oh my word!’, I have never seen a change room so shattered. The last time I cried this much when I saw Lion King as a youngster. After that day I sat and started weeping in the dressing room, I just couldn’t stop crying," said Du Plessis.

"I looked around and saw 8-9 guys absolutely broken. It’s the best game of cricket that I have been part of and also the worst after everything happened."

<h2>South Africa vs New Zealand</h2>

Former South African captain Faf du Plessis has revealed that he and several other players cried inconsolably after the team lost the 2015 World Cup semifinal match against New Zealand. Speaking ahead of the South Africa v New Zealand World Cup league encounter at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, Du Plessis made the revelation, adding that it was a rare instance in his cricketing career when he wept like that. South Africa were stopped in the tracks when they looked all certain to put a 350+ total on the board. As a result, New Zealand were set a total according to the adjustments made under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) system. Riding on Grant Elliot's match-winning knock, NZ got over the line and South Africa had to endure a heartbreaking exit. It’s the best game of cricket that I have been part of and also the worst after everything happened." IPL 2023: Shubman Gill wins Orange Cap with 890 runs, Md Shami clinches Purple Cap with 28 wickets

In pics: Reliving Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL 2023 campaign

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lost to defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) by six wickets in match 70 of IPL 2023 as they failed to make it to the playoffs. The Faf du Plessis-led Bengaluru franchise won and lost seven games each and finished in the sixth position. A win would have taken them to the playoffs, however, they failed to defend 197 for 5, despite Virat Kohli's 61-ball 101*, as Gujarat opener Shubman Gill's unbeaten 104 took his side to a stunning six-wicket win in the last over.

After yet another failed IPL season, RCB's ardent fans were left heartbroken whereas captain Faf reflected on his side's overall campaign and admitted that they didn't deserve to end the league stage in the top-four.

'RCB didn't deserve to be in IPL 2023 playoffs': Faf du Plessis on Bengaluru's elimination

Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thrashed bottom-ranked Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in match 65 of IPL 2023 on Thursday evening (May 18) in Hyderabad. Chasing 187, RCB got off to a flier courtesy of centurion Virat Kohli (63-ball 100) and skipper Faf (47-ball 71)'s majestic 172-run opening stand.

With another win, RCB inched closer to the playoffs and have lots to cheer for. Their skipper Faf has been in unreal form, scoring 702 runs (currently the Orange Cap holder) in 13 games including eight fifties, and has been leading the charge with the bat in every game. Thus, his RCB teammate Dinesh Karthik feels South Africa will be 'missing a trick if they don't take Faf to the ODI World Cup'.

Speaking on the latest edition of the ICC Review, Karthik said, "I'm not at all surprised with Faf’s form because I think he's a terrific player. He's a very good leader as well."

He further opined, "In the last four, five years of IPL, he's been very consistent and he's just had another year where he's been even more consistent, even more effective, even more powerful. I think South Africa will be missing a trick if they don't take him to the World Cup. I think he is ready. He is somebody who can make a difference as a leader, as a batter."

"So I genuinely wish Faf says yes, when South Africa asks him because he will make an impact at that World Cup if he's there," Karthik added.

Du Plessis led South Africa in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He has played for the Proteas in early 2021 and recently indicated that he remains open to representing the national team in white-ball formats. The forthcoming ODI World Cup will be held in India later this year.

<h2>Virat’s keeps RCB in playoff hunt</h2>

Asked to chase 187 runs after a quickfire ton from Heinrich Klaasen, it was Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis who did the trick for RCB as they dominated from the first ball. Virat brought his first IPL ton in four years after he smashed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a six on the fourth ball of the 18th over. While he was dismissed on the very next ball, the job was already done for the away side as Virat’s innings consisted of 4 sixes and 12 fours as scored at a strike rate of 159.

Faf du Plessis soon followed Virat, but he too had done his job and departed on 73 which consisted of 2 sixes and 7 fours. The duo put together an opening stand of 172 runs and paved the way for RCB to go fourth in the IPL standings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natrajan both ended with a wicket but had a relatively off day against Virat and Faf. Glenn Maxwell (5) and Michael Bracewell (4) then saw RCB home for a comfortable win.

<h2>What happened in SRH’s innings?</h2>

Earlier, Heinrich Klaasen's spectacular maiden IPL century powered Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to 186/5 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their IPL 2023 match here at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Klaasen scored the highest for SRH with an outstanding knock of 104 runs off 51 balls while Harry Brook scored unbeaten 27 in 19 deliveries. For RCB, Michael Bracewell bagged two wickets while Shahbaz Ahmed, Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel scalped one each.

RCB end their league campaign against leaders Gujarat Titans (GT) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, May 21. The contest could be a must-win one for RCB if Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals (RR) win their respective games in their final matches of the league season. On the flip side, SRH will end their campaign against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on the same day.

The win takes RCB to fourth spot with their playoff fortunes in their own hand with one match to go for each team while Virat enjoyed his first ton in IPL after four years. 6️⃣th hundred for the King in the IPL and it’s come in an all important chase! 🥹 Only RCB Hall of Famer, Chris Gayle, has as many hundreds 🤌#PlayBold #ನಮ್ಮRCB #IPL2023 #SRHvRCB @imVkohli pic.twitter.com/lIVWX0YsJD — Royal Challengers Bangalore (@RCBTweets) May 18, 2023 × Virat’s keeps RCB in playoff hunt Asked to chase 187 runs after a quickfire ton from Heinrich Klaasen, it was Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis who did the trick for RCB as they dominated from the first ball. IPL 2023: Virat, Faf blow SRH away in one-sided contest to register 8-wicket win; Klaasen's ton goes in vain

Former South African captain Faf du Plessis thanks his stars for getting to bat alongside the modern-day legend Virat Kohli than being in the opposite team. With both players among the runs in IPL 2023, Faf leads the chart for the Orange Cap as he has 631 runs from 12 games, while Virat is sixth on the list with 438 runs this season.

Speaking ahead of Bangalore's one of two do-or-die clashes against SunRisers Hyderabad on Thursday, Faf praised the ex-skipper, saying Virat's passion for the game is unmatched and irrespective of whether it's the first wicket or the last, he would celebrate it with the same energy.

As quoted in NDTV, Faf said he remains in awe of Virat's passion and after sharing the dressing room with him, he feels it's better to rub shoulders with him than play against him.

"The biggest thing about Virat is his passion. I always admire playing against Virat. The amount of passion that he has, for every wicket that falls, he would be on a 10-on-10 for every wicket. I wonder how this guy is always passionate, even if a number 11 player gets out. I was in awe of the amount of passion that he has, playing the game of cricket. Now being on the same team as him, I can tell you that playing with him is better than playing against him," said Du Plessis, as quoted by NDTV.

Shedding more light on what it means to play alongside perhaps the best white-ball batter in a longest time, Faf said knowing Virat outside of the cricket field is excellent. The right-handed batter said playing with him fuels one too, and that, you wish to give your absolute best as well.

Speaking further, Faf revealed both Kohli and he share a lot of common interests, one of which includes love for tattoos.

"When you are playing against him, sometimes, that passion can fuel you as well. I've been on the other side of that. Whereas if you play with him, it's such a great thing. You feel that passion batting with him, and it's really really infectious. It makes you wanna give your absolute best all the time as well. It's been great to know the player behind the cricket player and the person behind the cricket player. He is an extremely generous, kind-hearted man. Also, a family-oriented like myself. We have become really good friends. We share a lot of similar interests, family driven, passion and tattoos," Faf added while heaping praises on Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, Faf-led RCB is fifth on the points table with 12 points from as many games, and for them to move ahead in the competition, RCB need to win its remaining two matches.

IPL 2023: Surya's 35-ball 83 overpowers fifties by Faf, Maxwell as MI beat RCB by six wickets

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis scored yet another fifty in the Indian Premier League (IPL) - his fifth this season - but got out playing a strange shot to a catch caught &nbsp;in three attempts.

Mumbai's Cameron Green came on to bowl the 14th over of the RCB's innings and Faf tried to act cute as he premeditated to play a ramp shot and got in position quickly. While playing the shot though, Faf looked in two minds as he looked to play the ball over third man instead of fine leg but eventually played over fine leg only in a rather unbalanced way.

The substitute fielder standing there got the hands on the ball quickly but the ball popped out of his hands and then he tried again but the ball again bounced and hit the fielder's cap after which he finally caught it, ending Faf's fabulous innings of 65 off 41. Have a look at the video here:

IPL 2023: RCB's Faf du Plessis gets out playing STRANGE ramp shot against MI - WATCH

Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq were engaged in a heated exchange during Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)'s win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow in match 43 of the IPL 2023 edition on Monday (May 01). During LSG's 127-run chase, Kohli and Lucknow pacer Naveen exchanged some words and were seen having an argument during the post-match handshake as well. Afterwards, Kohli and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir also clashed and were separated by players from both camps.

Kohli and LSG captain KL Rahul were seen having a chat after the match when Naveen crossed by and once again the duo had an animated discussion. Later on, the crowd chanted Kohli's name when the Afghanistan pacer went to receive an award during the presentation ceremony. Kohli was at his aggressive best during his side's defence of 127 and RCB skipper Faf du Plessis opined on Kohli's aggression post the LSG encounter.

"Aggression is the best version of Virat, isn't it? To see him pumped up like that, that's when he is at his very best. So it is really awesome to be a part of it and my job is to keep things calm on the field, which I thought that I did really well," Faf chuckled during the interview shared on RCB's official Twitter handle.&nbsp;

Du Plessis added, "The plan was to take the seamers on because we felt that hitting spin would be really difficult. It was a tough wicket, so we had to adapt and that was the most important thing. LSG vs RCB: Aggression is best version of Virat Kohli, opines Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis

Royal Challengers Bangalore stunned the home side Lucknow Super Giants in a low-scoring affair on Monday. On a track that wasn't great for batting, RCB bowlers made the most of this chance and defended a low total against LSG - a side that registered the second-highest total in IPL in their previous game.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the star-studded pair of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli got RCB off to a flyer for the nth time this season.&nbsp;

During the second over, LSG captain KL Rahul suffered a leg injury while chasing the ball and fell in utter pain and was taken off the ground.

Meanwhile, the pair added 62 runs for the first wicket before Ravi Bishnoi removed Kohli stumped on 31. In the span of the next six overs, RCB lost three more wickets, all to the spinners, as batters continued to struggle in Lucknow.&nbsp;

With Naveen ul Haq entering the attack, he put RCB's back against the wall, picking up three wickets for 30 in his four overs. Captain Faf was the lone fighter with the bat as he hit 44 from 30 balls.&nbsp;

With bowlers dominating throughout, LSG restricted RCB to a modest total of 126 for nine in 20 overs.&nbsp;

In the absence of regular skipper Rahul, left-handed Krunal Pandya opened the innings alongside the man in form, Kyle Mayers. Much to everyone's shock, Mayers departed on a second-ball duck to Mohammed Siraj. It was just the beginning as LSG lost another four wickets inside seven overs.

With the hosts reeling at 38 for five at one stage with one batter less, the chase looked like getting out of their reach.

Last match's hero, Marcus Stoinis and all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham tried saving the sinking ship but fell prey to some outstanding bowling and fielding.&nbsp;

While Naveen and Amit Mishra looked like pulling off the miracle, returning Josh Hazlewood removed the Afghan bowler that saw injured KL Rahul coming to bat at number 11. Rahul couldn't find runs on the two balls he faced as LSG fell shy of the target by 18&nbsp;runs.&nbsp;

Captain Faf was the lone fighter with the bat as he hit 44 from 30 balls. With bowlers dominating throughout, LSG restricted RCB to a modest total of 126 for nine in 20 overs. Last match's hero, Marcus Stoinis and all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham tried saving the sinking ship but fell prey to some outstanding bowling and fielding. While Naveen and Amit Mishra looked like pulling off the miracle, returning Josh Hazlewood removed the Afghan bowler that saw injured KL Rahul coming to bat at number 11. Rahul couldn't find runs on the two balls he faced as LSG fell shy of the target by 18 runs.

Match 36 of the IPL 2023 edition saw the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat the hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday (April 26). Being asked to bat first, KKR rode on Jason Roy's 56, quickfire knock from captain Nitish Rana and cameos from Rinku Singh and David Weise to post 200 for 5.

In reply, RCB only managed 179 for 8 in 20 overs to lose by 21&nbsp;runs. With this loss, RCB's two-match winning streak came to an end. Earlier,&nbsp;Roy slammed an impressive 29-ball 56 as he took on the RCB attack in the powerplay overs. While his opening partner N Jagadeesan struggled, making a 27-ball 29, the England opener's knock&nbsp;featured&nbsp;with 4 fours and 5 sixes at 193.10.

From KKR, Suyash (2 for 30), Varun Chakaravarthy (3 for 27), and Andre Russell (2&nbsp;for 29) contributed with regular breakthroughs to dent RCB's chase and halt their mini-winning run.

RCB remain in the fifth spot with eight points. KKR move to the seventh position, replacing Mumbai Indians (MI), after this win.

IPL 2023: Virat Kohli fined 2.4mn rupees, other RCB players 600,000 for slow over-rate vs RR

Harshal Patel held his nerves in the final over and defended 20 runs as Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven&nbsp;runs at M Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first, RCB lost captain Virat Kohli on the first-ball duck, plumed in front of Trent Boult. Ironically, this was the third time while playing on April 23rd that Kohli got out on zero on the first ball. With that, Boult also completed his 100th dismissal in the IPL. The left-arm seamer picked make-shift number 3 batter Shahbaz Ahmed on two to put the hosts under pressure.

RCB, for the second time this season, was bailed by the overseas pair of Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, who added another century-plus stand (127 this time) for the third wicket as both also completed their fifties. While Faf departed on 62, thanks to an incredible piece of fielding and a direct hit by Yashaswi Jaiswal, the BIG SHOW Maxwell got out on 77 to his old foe, Ravi Ashwin.

Following those two wickets, RCB tumbled and couldn’t capitalise on the start they got as they could manage 189 for nine in 20 overs.

Rajasthan, who had two different chases in the past two games, didn’t begin well as they lost their star opener Jos Buttler bowled on zero. The left-handed pair of Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal then steadied the ship with a 98-run stand for the second wicket.

However, three big wickets after that, including the Sanju Samson’s, held RR back as they were left reeling at 125 for four in the 16th over.

While Dhruv Jurel and Ravi Ashwin looked like finishing the job for their team, smart bowling from Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel spoiled the party as they led RCB to a seven-run win over RR at home. With this win, RCB has moved to the fifth spot with four wins in seven matches.

IPL 2023: Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and bowlers power RCB to a 7-run win over Rajasthan Royals

Match 27 of the IPL 2023 edition saw the three-time runners-up Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)&nbsp;beat hosts Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 24 runs at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali on Thursday (April 20). While the match went down to the wire, RCB dominated the majority of the proceedings to emerge on top. With this triumph, RCB now occupy the fifth&nbsp;spot in the points table.

Being asked to bat first, Virat Kohli-led RCB came out all guns blazing. Kohli was the stand-in skipper as Faf du Plessis, the regular captain, played as an Impact Player due to his hip injury. The pair stitched a 137-run opening stand with Kohli slamming a 47-ball 59 whereas Faf continued his rich form and returned with an impressive 54-ball 86.&nbsp;

RCB managed only 37 runs in the last four overs as Punjab bowlers staged a comeback, with Harpreet Brar taking two successive wickets. The visitors, however, ended with a competitive score of&nbsp;174-4.&nbsp;

In reply, PBKS were on the back foot from the word go. They lost Atharva Taide, Matthew Short and Liam Livingstone for cheap as Md Siraj struck twice. With regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan out of the playing XI due to injury concerns, Punjab once again failed to get going at the top.

Prabhsimran Singh (46) looked good and took on the RCB bowlers amid the regular fall of wickets. He lost captain Curran, with a superb throw from Hasaranga, and the chase was pretty much done and dusted there itself. Despite the regular fall of wickets, Punjab kept scoring at a good rate and got a partnership going between Jitesh Sharma, who hit some big shots, and Brar to stay alive.

Nonetheless, Siraj broke the partnership in his last over, bowling the 18th, to take RCB closer to the finish line (ending with 4-0-21-4).&nbsp;Eventually, Harshal Patel dismissed Jitesh (41) as PBKS managed 150 all-out in 18.2 overs to lose by 24 runs.

IPL 2023: ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR KING KOHLI! Virat slams 600 fours during RCB's away tie vs PBKS

Chennai Super Kings won the run-fest against Royal Challengers Bangalore by barest of margins despite scoring a mammoth 226/6 in their 20 overs. From RCB, skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell scored a fifty each and added 126 runs for the third wicket and brought them back in the game.

Speaking on the onslaught by RCB duo, CSK skipper MS Dhoni, at the post-match presentation, said, "Whenever you score 220, the batsmen have to keep on hitting. It's a matter of few overs in the middle. If Faf and Maxi had continued, they'd have won by the 18th over, so you need to get engrossed with the process, know what is the bowling change, what can I do from which end, what is really happening, if something has really changed."

"I can see it better from close by, so I can know if there is deflection off the wicket for the spinners or quicks. I am always involved in what needs to be done. If I can provide bowlers a good field and give nice suggestions, that's a win for me," MSD added.

Notably, after Maxwell and du Plessis got out in span of 18 runs, RCB's innings wobbled and could not find any footing despite Dinesh Karthik's 14-ball 28. Bangalore, playing at their home ground, eventually managed 218/8 in 20 overs, and lost the match by eight runs.

Earlier, CSK batted first and had a quiet start with Ruturaj Gaikwad getting out cheaply for a team score of 16 runs. Devon Conway and Shivam Dube, however, played defining knocks of 45-ball 83 and 27-ball 52, respectively as CSK managed 226/6 in their 20 overs.&nbsp;

Apart from Conway and Dube, Ajinkya Rahane also smacked 20-ball 37 while Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja played cameos of 14, 19 and 10 runs, respectively, to lift CSK up. For RCB, each bowler took a wicket with Mohammed Siraj being the most economical one, giving away just 30 runs in his four overs.

Bangalore, playing at their home ground, eventually managed 218/8 in 20 overs, and lost the match by eight runs. Earlier, CSK batted first and had a quiet start with Ruturaj Gaikwad getting out cheaply for a team score of 16 runs. Devon Conway and Shivam Dube, however, played defining knocks of 45-ball 83 and 27-ball 52, respectively as CSK managed 226/6 in their 20 overs. IPL 2023: 'What can I do...:' MS Dhoni on onslaught by RCB's du Plessis and Maxwell vs CSK

Chennai Super Kings won their match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore but not without a scare by RCB skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. The duo added 126 runs for the third wicket to bring RCB back in the game.

The partnership, however, wasn't without glitches. After Virat Kohli got out on the third ball of RCB's chase, Faf edged a ball in the second over bowled by Tushar Deshpande. The ball travelled to Dhoni's right who leapt to grab it but misjudged and RCB got four lucky runs. Have a look at the video here:

The misjudged catch proved costly enough as Faf, who was at zero at that time, went on to score 62 off 33 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes. The fielding by CSK was not up to the mark in general but they managed to sneak away with an eight-run win.

IPL 2023: MS Dhoni drops Faf du Plessis for zero during RCB vs CSK tie - WATCH

Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) occupy the seventh spot in IPL 2023 points table after their narrow loss over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at home, on Monday evening (April 17). Bowling first, RCB was in for a leather hunt as they conceded 226/6 and while they were on course to chase down the target, they lost by eight runs after being restricted to 218 for 8.

RCB are expected to make a strong comeback in the season and will rely on their captain Faf du Plessis. Du Plessis has hit the ground running in IPL 2023 and is the current Orange Cap holder (259 runs) after his splendid 33-ball 62 versus CSK. Ever since the former South African captain joined the RCB camp, he has been one of their top performers and is expected to revamp his side's campaign in this year's IPL season.

In IPL 2022, Du Plessis represented the RCB franchise for the first time -- after they bought him for INR 70 million (INR 7 crore) -- and he didn't disappoint; leading the side to the playoffs and also ending as RCB's highest run-scorer. Recently, RCB's Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson explained why the veteran cricketer was chosen as the RCB captain ahead of IPL 2022.

Speaking on the RCB podcast, Hesson said, "I guess it’s really difficult coming into a group when the previous captain (Virat Kohli)&nbsp;is still there. So we needed somebody that could come in, would have respect within the group instantly because if he comes in a lot of people can be intimidated by the ex-captain being near and potentially aren’t confident enough to make your own decisions."

The New Zealander further opined, “So we wanted somebody who had captained at an international level before ideally, somebody that had respect from amongst the Indian players and the international players. That was really important that it wasn’t just somebody that would take a year to be in. We felt that at RCB we needed someone to hit the ground running."

He added, "We wanted a player who we knew could plug and play from a performance point of view. So somebody that had a really good record in the IPL in recent years and Faf clearly had that. And also would work well with the coach and the coaching group because we wanted that inclusive style. Somebody that we had a lot of good senior players Virat, Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) DK (Dinesh Karthik) that we were looking to either bring in or retain. So we needed to use those skills rather than just be an authoritarian-style captain. We want someone who will actually come and work with that group. And Faf ticked all those boxes."

Du Plessis succeeded Kohli as the RCB captain after the latter resigned from the top post following the end of IPL 2021.&nbsp;

IPL 2023: REVEALED! Mike Hesson explains why Faf du Plessis was made RCB captain after Virat Kohli

Chennai Super Kings may have won the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore but it wasn't without a scare that came from Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell's blistering innings.

The duo added 126 runs for the third wicket after CSK skipper MS Dhoni, in a rare mistake behind the stumps, dropped his counterpart when he was on zero. The chance, which came on the second ball of the second over, would have resulted in the second wicket for CSK after getting Virat Kohli out cheaply in the first over of the RCB's chase itself.

Nonetheless, du Plessis took the second life with both hands and went on to score 33-ball 62. Such was an impact of his innings that even his previous team, Chennai Super Kings only, were in awe of him.

CSK's Twitter handle even tweeted a nice message for Faf du Plessis. "Oh how the lion stood his ground today! 🥳 Couldn’t help but whistle," read the tweet. Have a look at the tweet here:&nbsp;

The partnership between Maxi and Faf even stunned Dhoni, who said at the post-match presentation that if both of then had stayed, RCB would have won the game in 18 overs.

&nbsp;"Whenever you score 220, the batsmen have to keep on hitting. It's a matter of few overs in the middle. After being asked to bat first, Chennai lost opener Ruturaj Gaikwad on three. Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane put the fifth gear inside the Powerplay as they stitched a 74-run stand for the second wicket. Following Rahane’s dismissal, Shivam Dube, who enjoys scoring against RCB, that too at M Chinnaswamy, began the onslaught from the word go.&nbsp;

Two left-handers made bowlers' life miserable in the middle as they hammered at least a four or a six in each over. That did put RCB’s back against the wall, and CSK looked like registering&nbsp;a huge total on the board. However, considering how fast things can change in a T20 game – it did so in this match also, as RCB picked a few wickets during the fag to pull CSK’s momentum back.

Despite all efforts, they still let CSK score a mammoth 226 for six in 20 overs.

In reply, they got off to the worst possible start, with star batter Virat Kohli getting bowled in the first over itself. Mahipal Lomror also departed on a duck in Deshpande’s over, as RCB was reeling at 15 for two at one stage.

From that point onwards, no one would have thought that they will be the favourites to win the match, which was the case.

Captain Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell took the onus and started going after the CSK bowlers. They ran riot as both completed their fifties inside 25 balls. At that point, it looked like CSK might fall despite that gigantic total on the board. As fate would have it, the spinners brought CSK back into the game with big wickets of Faf and Maxwell; it was about time, before Chennai put RCB under pressure.&nbsp;

Though a late blitz from the experienced Dinesh Karthik and even the impact player - Suyash Prabhudessai kept RCB afloat in the chase, a cluster of wickets in the final three overs proved too costly as they lost the match by eight runs.

With this win, Chennai has moved to third place on the points table with three wins in five games.

Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane put the fifth gear inside the Powerplay as they stitched a 74-run stand for the second wicket. Following Rahane’s dismissal, Shivam Dube, who enjoys scoring against RCB, that too at M Chinnaswamy, began the onslaught from the word go. Two left-handers made bowlers' life miserable in the middle as they hammered at least a four or a six in each over. That did put RCB’s back against the wall, and CSK looked like registering a huge total on the board. However, considering how fast things can change in a T20 game – it did so in this match also, as RCB picked a few wickets during the fag to pull CSK’s momentum back. ALSO READ: IPL 2023: 'CSK treat everyone with same respect, never let anyone feel low,' claims star all-rounder Despite all efforts, they still let CSK score a mammoth 226 for six in 20 overs. Captain Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell took the onus and started going after the CSK bowlers. They ran riot as both completed their fifties inside 25 balls. At that point, it looked like CSK might fall despite that gigantic total on the board. As fate would have it, the spinners brought CSK back into the game with big wickets of Faf and Maxwell; it was about time, before Chennai put RCB under pressure.

IPL 2023: Despite sloppy out-fielding, Chennai somehow beat spirited Bangalore side by 8 runs

Lucknow Super Giants dugout had their heart in mouth when RCB's Harshal Patel attempted to run-out Ravi Bishnoi backing-up on the last ball of the match. LSG needed one run at that moment to win the game with only one wicket in hand.&nbsp;

Harshal, as fate would have it, missed shattering of bails but tried to run out Bishnoi by throwing the ball onto the stumps, however, the cricket rules forbid it.&nbsp;

The MCC lawbook says, according to law 38.3.1.2 about dismissal states - "Even if the non-striker had left his/her ground before the instant at which the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, once the bowler has reached that point it is no longer possible for the bowler to run out the non-striker under this Law."&nbsp;

Speaking on the attempt, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis said after that match that the team backed themselves about the run-out.

"Disappointed. They played well through the middle. One ball one run. We backed ourselves to get a run-out," Faf said. “I think just looking at that wicket, the batting from overs 7 to 14 was quite slow, the wicket, but then in the last five overs the ball was coming on nicely and that carried on in the second innings. I threw all our weapons we had at them. Unfortunately, they took on one of our stronger bowlers right away, Harshal in his first two overs, but he came back well,” he further added.

LSG batters Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran scored 65 off 30 and 62 off 19, respectively to bring their team on the brink of win. With 24 required of 18 and both star batters back in the hut, drama unfolded. Ayush Badoni scored a six but got hit-wicket on the same ball when LSG needed just seven runs.&nbsp;

Harshal Patel then took two wickets in the 20th over and almost had the last one too but Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi held the nerves to scamper for a run to get LSG home.

IPL 2023: RCB skipper Faf backs Harshal's attempt to run-out non-striker Ravi Bishnoi on last ball

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will host the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 15 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition, on Monday evening (April 10). The match will be held at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru as the home crowd will hope for the Virat Kohli-starrer to return to winning ways after a hammering received at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, in their previous game.

RCB opened their campaign in IPL 2023 with an eight-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at home. On the road, they faced KKR who dismissed them for 123 in pursuit of 205. With the heavy loss, RCB are now languishing at the seventh spot -- with a poor Net Run Rate (NRR) of&nbsp;-1.256, and needs to stage a comeback at the earliest.&nbsp;

LSG, on the other hand, started with a 50-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in Lucknow and lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 12 runs in Chennai. Returning to home conditions, they hammered SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets. They occupy the third spot at present.

The pitch is expected to assist the swing bowlers for the early overs and will have enough pace throughout the match. RCB's death-bowling woes and LSG's main batters' dry run -- especially KL Rahul -- will be closely monioted as it could well define the outcome of the match.&nbsp;

Result Prediction –

Going by the current form, LSG have their noise ahead but expect RCB to bounce back at home. Overall, a competitive game surely on the cards. In head-to-head, RCB lead LSG 2-0.&nbsp;

IPL 2023: RCB's Faf du Plessis hits 115-metre six off LSG's Ravi Bishnoi - WATCH

As Royal Challengers Bangalore prepare to host high-flying Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023 tonight, the experienced campaigner Faf du Plessis feels his team still has many flaws to iron out following the latest bashing at the hands of KKR. Aware of the LSG challenge, Faf feels RCB need to up its game if they wish to add more points to its kitty.

Ahead of the match, Faf said it's important for the team to review its performance and come up with a better show in tonight's game.&nbsp;In the first match, the Bangalore-based team thrashed Mumbai Indians by eight wickets but suffered a contrasting fate against Kolkata in their following game by losing the game by 81 runs.

"The importance for me is making sure that we have the same review process on whether the first game, where we were perfect, or the second game, where we were not perfect. Making sure that we look at things that we did well and things that we can improve on. The guys are very confident to try and put in a performance to put that last game down," Du Plessis said on RCB Game Day as quoted by India Today.

Speaking highly of the travelling side, Faf feels LSG is a well-balanced team and has shown the right intent so far. The captain admits for his team to beat LSG at home, they need to pull up their socks, for which they need to work on the areas where there is a chance for improvement.

"Both the new teams have played really well. LSG have a very well-balanced squad. When you have a blank canvas at the auction, you can pretty much set up a team really well from a balanced perspective. They are a very good team, so we have to be at the top of our game as well," Du Plessis added.

As things stand, Lucknow is placed third on the points table, while Bangalore is reeling the bottom half with one win and one loss in two matches.
