England fast bowler Jofra Archer recently caught the England Cricket Board (ECB) with a surprise by featuring for his school team in Barbados without informing the management. The pacer, who has been dealing with injuries for quite some time now, is believed to have returned to the United Kingdom as of now.&nbsp;

The news was first reported by&nbsp;ESPNCricinfo, which is how England team managing director Rob Key came to know of Archer's adventure.

"I'm not aware of that," Key said, when informed about Archer's involvement with his school team. "I'll find out," Key added while announcing the England Test squad for the India tour for which Archer has not been considered.

Notably, Archer has been handed a central contract by the ECB despite playing just seven white-ball matches since March 2021. The contract, apart from a show of faith, is also to take over Archer's recovery program in order to bring him back.

"Now we're taking control of him coming back. We're not going to say you need to get back for this part here. From what they've said, an elbow injury is a complicated place to have an injury. So we just want to take this as slow as possible," said Key.

The 28-year-old was expected to be a part of the recently concluded ODI World Cup but failed to recover in time. He had played a pivotal role in England's triumphant campaign in the 2019 edition and now is expected to return for the defence of the T20 title in the ICC T20 World Cup in June next year.

Considering his ability to win matches and the injury, Archer has been withdrawn from the IPL 2023 auction as well. Key, while talking about Archer's importance for England, said: "If it takes an extra couple of months, but he gets another couple of years out of his career, and gets back fully... I think he's worth his weight in gold."

“We deplore the appalling loss of innocent life following recent events in Israel and Palestine. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of all the innocent victims, and those who are still missing, as well as the communities who are affected,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement.

“While sport seems trivial compared to the harrowing scenes we have all watched, it is also an opportunity for people to come together and remind ourselves that there’s far more that brings us together, than divides us. We should now all unify in our hope for peace,” the statement added.

The war between the two nations has divided the world with countries like USA, India, and England supporting Israel while few countries have supported Palestine. On the cricketing ground, England all-rounder Moeen Ali waved his support to Palestinians having put up a post on his X handle.

Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan dedicated his hundred against Sri Lanka to the victims of Gaza when he posted on his X handle. He scored an unbeaten 134 against Sri Lanka in what was a record chase in the history of the World Cup.

The England Football Association (FA) will also keep a minute’s silence to mourn the death of people who lost their lives in the war. England are all set to play Australia in a friendly on Friday at Wembley Stadium before they prepare for the Euro qualifiers.

A lot of times, Buttler has not been able to field the main XI with many being rested for Test cricket. The contracts are an update to the previous central contract structure, which only included one-year contracts, and they come at a time when Indian Premier League (IPL) ownership has expanded to other T20 tournaments around the world, allowing clubs to hire players exclusively for their needs all year long.

As per ESPNcricinfo, 26 contracts have been offered. The 20 contracts out of 26 are multi-year, with a group of top players including Ben Stokes, Harry Brook and Mark Wood in receipt of three-year packages.

"It's certainly not negative, it kind of gives you a bit of security,"&nbsp; Ben Duckett was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Seasoned campaigner Wood, on Wednesday, told The Telegraph he would see what ECB has to offer to him, admitting though he wishes to continue playing for England, ECB's contract will help him decide on his future.

"I want to play for England as long as I can, but it just depends on what they say, what they want me to do, and how they view the structure going forward," Wood told The Telegraph. "Playing both [the ILT20 and the India Tests] is not a viable option for England… I will wait and see what happens with the upcoming central contracts and then make a decision from there."

"We know now that the whole landscape of cricket is changing. That is great for the individuals who are still within the game but also the guys who are coming through. The opportunities that are presented now for cricketers are amazing, and it's great for the sport.

"The more opportunities that come, the more people will be attracted to the sport and try to make a career out of it. Everyone's at a different point in their life, not just in their career, where other things have to be thought about by the individual. If a person makes a decision because they think it's not only best for themselves but also the future and security of their family then it's very hard to disagree with that," Stokes said.

Well, it looks like the English Test skipper is ready to make a U-turn and come out of 50-over retirement for the ICC event.&nbsp;As per fresh reports, Stokes is now considering to come out of ODI retirement&nbsp;if asked by white-ball skipper Buttler.

According to a report in Telegraph Sport, Stokes if willing to risk missing IPL 2024 if he needs ample recovery time in his schedule. He represents the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the premier tournament in India.

It is to be noted that the all-rounder called it quits from the shorter format in July 2022, citing&nbsp;‘exhaustion due to too much cricket’. While he was asked about a return in ODIs during the recently-held Ashes 2023, in the United Kingdom, the 32-year-old gave a fitting response.

"I'm retired," Stokes reiterated, as quoted by the ICC. "I'm going on holiday after this game and that's as far as I'm thinking."

"My urging for MCC members is: If you really love cricket, don't you want more kids to play? Don't you want it to lose that image that it sometimes still has -- a turgid image of snobbery and elitism?" he told the Times newspaper last year.

The 38-year-old, capped 23 times at Test level by England, also insisted he had no recollection of using the phrase "you lot" in a match against Derbyshire and claimed to have never met Amna Rafiq. Bresnan is one of several former Yorkshire players and coaches, including Andrew Gale, Matthew Hoggard, Richard Pyrah and John Blain, who have refused to engage with the Discipline Commission process.

"I would love to come here and tell you how much cricket has changed, but unfortunately what it feels like is that cricket is very much in denial."

It was first reported in October that the ex-Yorkshire spinner was planning to&nbsp;move overseas to protect his family from further abuse and intimidation. A month later, Rafiq, along with&nbsp;his wife, children and parents moved to Pakistan.&nbsp;

Rafiq added he had some hope in the new England Cricket Board (ECB) leadership "but it's very little at the minute".&nbsp;

He filed a legal complaint in December 2020 claiming to have suffered direct discrimination and harassment on the grounds of race.&nbsp;

In August 2021, the Yorkshire Cricket Club released a statement and accepted that Rafiq had fallen prey to racism within the club.&nbsp;

"Several of the allegations made by Azeem were upheld and that sadly, historically, Azeem was the victim of inappropriate behaviour. This is clearly unacceptable. We would like to express our profound apologies for this."

Despite the apology, the&nbsp;Yorkshire club refused to take action against anyone.&nbsp;former England captain Michael Vaughan was one of the few people to publically apologise to Rafiq.&nbsp;

England and Wales Cricket Board has informally offered to be the hosts if India and Pakistan plan to play a bilateral Test series but BCCI sources said chances of that happening in near future is "next to nil".

The UK daily 'Telegraph' reported that "Martin Darlow, the deputy chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, has held talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board during the current Twenty20 series and offered England's grounds as venues for ideally a three-match Test series in future."

While the ECB has made the offer for its own commercial gains, the powers that be in the BCCI laughed off the suggestions and said that no such possibilities might arise at least in the next few years.

"Firstly, ECB spoke to PCB about an Indo-Pak series and that's a bit weird. In any case, a series against Pakistan is not something that the BCCI will decide but it is the decision of the government. As of now, the stance remains the same. We only play Pakistan at multi-team events," a senior BCCI official privy to India's position told PTI on Tuesday.

India and Pakistan last played a short bilateral white-ball series back in 2012 in India and the last Test series dates back to 2007.

With the tense political relations between the neighbours, it is a big 'No' from BCCI irrespective of whether it is played at home, away or a neutral venue.

The newspaper states precisely the reason why ECB made the "generous offer".

"The matches would attract big crowds in the UK, which has a large ex-pat south Asian population," it said.

"The matches attract huge sponsorship revenue and television audiences."

However, the paper made it clear that even "PCB is not keen on playing India at neutral venue but are grateful for the ECB's offer, which shows the growing relationship between the two boards."

It stated that with the big nations again starting to tour Pakistan, it will be a "retrograde step in their eyes" if they happen to play on a neutral venue.
