"The consequences for SpaceX if we cannot get enough reliable Raptors made is that we then can't fly Starship, which means we then can't fly Starlink Satellite V2. Satellite V1, by itself, is financially weak, while V2 is strong," reads the email, which was first obtained by SpaceExplored. &nbsp;

Musk warned in the email that SpaceX could face "genuine risk of bankruptcy if we cannot achieve a Starship flight rate of at least once every two weeks next year." &nbsp;&nbsp;

According to Matthew Stuttard, head of R&amp;D for Airbus Defence and Space Ltd in the Space Systems division, ''hitting an asteroid dead on with a direct hit is something that has never been done before, so it would be a first human achievement.''

The SpaceX rocket carrying DART mission's spacecraft had lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base on Tuesday.

DART is the latest of several NASA missions of recent years to explore and interact with asteroids, primordial rocky remnants from the solar system's formation 4.6 billion years ago.

There are 10,000 known near-Earth asteroids 460 feet in size or greater, but none has a significant chance to hit in the next 100 years.&nbsp;

"Nearly every day for three years, my female co-workers and I were objectified, threatened, touched and propositioned on the factory floor. I felt degraded, humiliated and&nbsp;traumatised," the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit further stated that supervisors and managers at the Fremont factory were not just aware of such pervasive harassment but also participated in abusive behaviour.

The lawsuit claimed that the victim filed several internal complaints but Tesla's human resource department did nothing to address it instead it disabled an email address meant for filing such complaints.

Although the allegations are shocking, however, it is hardly surprising since Tesla has a history of covering up workplace harassment especially at its factory in Fremont which has been identified as a "predator zone" in several lawsuits.

In February 2017 another woman employee had sued Tesla for pervasive harassment at the Fremont plant. The company allgedly responded by firing her for what it said were "false accusations".

In October 2017, a black employee at the Fremont plant accused his supervisors of racial harassment. The charges this time were upheld as Tesla was ordered to pay $137 million in damages.

Barazza claimed that Musk does not set a good example for his employees through his sexually suggestive tweets. She cited a tweet from October 21 where Musk joked about starting a new university dubbed the "Texas Institute of Technology &amp; Science" - a name which many deduced as a crude acronym for a female body part.

How would integration play out with the building’s immediate neighbors? Fantastically. That was the opinion of Louise Mirrer, president of the New-York Historical Society, which is next door and an organization to which, it is worth noting, Ackman has been an enormously generous donor.

UNWFP director lays out $6.6-billion plan for Tesla CEO Elon Musk to combat world hunger

Elon Musk said Wednesday that the Starship developed by his company SpaceX and selected by NASA for the Americans' return to the Moon would attempt its first orbital flight early next year.

"We'll do a bunch of tests in December and hopefully launch in January," Musk said in a talk for the National Academies Space Studies Board.

"There's a lot of risk associated with this first launch," he said. "So I would not say that it is likely to be successful, but I think we will make a lot of progress."

Starship has already made several sub-orbital flights. After multiple tests that ended in impressive explosions, SpaceX finally succeeded in landing the spacecraft, which is designed to be reusable.&nbsp;

For the upcoming orbital test, it will be decked out with an ultra-powerful first stage dubbed Super Heavy.&nbsp;

Authorization from the US Federal Aviation Administration is expected "around the end of the year," Musk said.&nbsp;

“The position of the Indigenous people is clear: We reject the plan,” said Apolos Sroyer, chief of the Biak Customary Council, an assembly of clan chiefs. “We don’t want to lose our farms because of this spaceport. We don’t eat satellites. We eat taro, and fish from the sea. That is our way of life for generations. Tell Elon Musk that’s our stance.”

Biak, nearly the size of Maui, sits just north of the island of New Guinea and is part of Indonesia’s Papua province. During World War II, U.S. forces defeated the Japanese there in a key battle as Gen. Douglas MacArthur fought to retake the Pacific. Biak became part of Indonesia in the 1960s after the United Nations handed over the former Dutch territory of West Papua on the condition that Indonesia hold a popular vote.

Instead, in a 1969 vote regarded by many Papuans as rigged, Indonesia rounded up a thousand tribal leaders — including chiefs from Biak — and held them until they voted to join Indonesia in what paradoxically became known as “The Act of Free Choice.”

The dwindling Abrauw clan, one of 360 clans on Biak, now has about 90 members. Most live in the village of Warbon, on the island’s northeastern side, about a mile and a half from the proposed spaceport site.

The center of clan life is a flowering heliotrope tree by the ocean.

Waves lap gently on the white sand nearby, and black, brown and white butterflies flit among its branches. Clan members consider the tree sacred and say it marks the origin of the Abrauw. They often visit the tree to make offerings and pray to their ancestors. On occasion, they gather there and camp for days. If the spaceport was built, the tree would be off limits, as would the beach where the Abrauw often fish, and the forest where they farm.

“For Papuans, land is identity,” said Marthen Abrauw, the clan chief, as he sat in the shade of the sacred tree on a recent afternoon. “We will lose our identity, and no other clan will accept us on their land. Where will our children and grandchildren go?”

Some clan members have found work in other parts of Indonesia, but those who remain in Warbon largely subsist on the fish they catch and the taro, cassava and sweet potatoes they grow. The clan practices nomadic farming, clearing trees in the forest for crops in a new location every two years.

Some walk or ride motorbikes to the nearby village of Korem to worship at the Pniel Evangelical Christian Church. Warbon, home to more than 1,000 people, includes members of numerous other clans who have married into the Abrauw but retain the clan identity of their male ancestors. The church also opposes the spaceport.

The Indonesian officials who support the project say Biak, just 70 miles south of the equator and facing the Pacific, would be ideal for launching rockets. SpaceX has plans to put tens of thousands of communications satellites into orbit in the coming years.

“This is our wealth,” said Biak’s regent, Herry Ario Naap, who is pushing for the spaceport. “Other regions may have oil or gold. We are given a strategic geographical location.”

In wooing Musk, Joko suggested that his car company, Tesla, could also collaborate with Indonesia to make electric vehicle batteries, as Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of nickel, a key component. A team from SpaceX visited Indonesia early this year to discuss possible cooperation, officials said.

Tesla submitted a battery production proposal to Indonesia in February, but the government declined to disclose details. Musk and his companies did not respond to requests for comment. In September, Joko bolstered the space program by increasing its budget twentyfold and placing it under the new National Research and Innovation Agency, which reports directly to him.

Laksana Tri Handoko, the agency chairman, who personally inspected the Biak site last month, said that the island remained a viable choice but that building the large spaceport he envisioned would require 10 times as much land. Controversy over the Biak site could prompt him to select an alternate location, such as Morotai island, about 550 miles northwest of Biak.

A key factor, he said, will be making sure the government has “clear and clean” title to the land. “Biak is not the one and only place,” he said. “We have many options.”

Government maps show that nearly all the Abrauw clan’s ancestral lands, including some homes, are within a proposed buffer zone that would be cleared of people should the small spaceport be built. The maps also show that the original project site is almost entirely within a protected forest.

The space agency has long said it bought the 250-acre site from the Abrauw clan in 1980. But the clan says it never sold the land. Four men who signed a document giving the agency title were not clan members and had no right to sell, according to clan leaders.

Tesla shares are under pressure, the electric car maker has been poorly performing on the stock market since the day its CEO Musk announced the selling of his shares after concluding a poll on Twitter.

Musk who owns his own electric car company shot a tweet saying: "I hope they are able to achieve high production and breakeven cash flow," while adding, "That is the true test."

The SpaceX chief then boasted that there are "hundreds of automotive startups, both electric and combustion" and then said: "Tesla is only American carmaker to reach high volume production and positive cash flow in past 100 years."

However, Michael Burry retorted saying that the "true test" was achieving the feat "without massive government and electricity subsidies on the back of taxpayers who don't own your cars".

Elon Musk may have already been compelled to sell a sizable portion of his Tesla shares even if he had not issued an unusual Twitter pledge over the weekend. Musk on Saturday polled Twitter users on whether he should sell 10% of his stake in his company. The poll appeared to be a response to a Democratic proposal to tax the unrealized gains of billionaires.

Musk said he was raising the question because he does not take a cash salary as Tesla’s CEO and therefore would not have any way to pay a large tax bill without selling some of his Tesla shares, which make up the vast majority of his wealth.

Musk wrote in a follow-up tweet that he would “abide by the results of this poll, whichever way it goes.” Tesla’s shares were down a little more than 3% on the news Monday.

He closed the poll Sunday, after nearly 3.5 million votes had been cast, with 58% voting for him to sell. Musk has not confirmed what he will do, but after closing the poll, he tweeted, “I was prepared to accept either outcome.”

Either way, Musk may soon have needed to sell a big chunk of his shares. He holds nearly 23 million stock options that were awarded in 2012. Those options have since vested and will expire in August 2022. Most stock grants allow executives to avoid paying taxes for years, and perhaps forever, as long as they do not sell the shares they get from converting the option.

But Brian Foley, an executive compensation consultant, says that because of the size of Musk’s grant and the way it was structured, it is likely that much of his 2012 options do not qualify for the preferential tax treatment. That means Musk would owe income taxes when he exercises the grant, which at current prices would be worth just under $30 billion. Musk’s tax bill could top $10 billion, depending on what percentage of the options do not qualify for the preferential treatment.

“They are a ticking tax time bomb,” Foley said of Musk’s stock options. “Offhand I can’t think of any way for him to get around paying the tax.”

What’s more, Musk may need to sell even more shares than what it would take to pay his tax bill. He owns 17% of Tesla’s shares, which at its current stock price would be worth about $200 billion. That means his weekend tweets are a pledge to sell roughly $20 billion worth of Tesla’s shares.

The potential sale could roil Tesla’s stock at a time when many analysts say it is already overvalued. The company’s market value recently crossed $1 trillion, making it only one of five U.S. publicly traded companies to be worth that much.

Nonetheless, James Cox, a professor at Duke University law school and an expert in securities laws, said it might be hard for Musk to go back on his Twitter pledge.

“It’s a no-win situation,” Cox said. “In the securities law, the problem is this could be seen as a misrepresentation that was meant to mislead if another shareholder sold on Musk’s tweet.”

But Cox said it would be a hard lawsuit to win, because CEOs are allowed to make statements and change their minds, as long as they meant what they said when they said it.

It would not be the first time that Musk has gotten into trouble over his tweets. In late 2018, he and Tesla settled a lawsuit by the Securities and Exchange Commission, without admitting guilt, for tweeting about a potential sale of Tesla that never happened. Musk was also sued for defamation in 2018 after calling a diver who had helped rescue children stuck in a cave in Thailand a “pedo guy” on Twitter. Musk won the suit.

Daniel Ives, a stock analyst at Wedbush Securities who follows Tesla, called Musk’s latest Twitter pledge “bizarre” but said he thought that given Tesla’s prospects and the investor enthusiasm for the company, the stock, which is up more than 60% this year, would keep climbing, even with Musk cashing out a portion of his holdings.

“Musk was likely to sell some of his Tesla stock before year end, but no one ever imagined there would be a Twitter poll translating into a 10% sale of his ownership,” Ives said. “This weekend’s Twitter poll was a strange one even for Elon.”
