Ed Sheeran is coming back to India to perform for the third time

In a recent interview, international music sensation Ed Sheeran shared a deeply personal aspect of his life, shedding light on the mysterious chapel and grave that had been a topic of speculation in the media. The Grammy-winning artist, renowned for his hit songs and heartfelt lyrics, opened up about the poignant story behind the construction of his chapel and the grave on his Suffolk estate in East Anglia.

Contrary to earlier rumours of a crypt, Ed clarified in an interview with GQ, "I wouldn't say it's a crypt," emphasising that it is, in fact, a chapel. This revelation comes after reports surfaced earlier this year, indicating that Sheeran had obtained approval in 2019 to construct a 'private place of retreat for contemplation and prayer' on his sprawling estate, valued at approximately £3.7 million.

The musician went on to reveal the emotional motivation behind this project. Ed explained that many of his dear friends who have passed away chose cremation, leaving him without a physical place to grieve and pay his respects. It was this heartfelt need for a space to remember and honour his loved ones that led him to construct the chapel.

Sheeran's connection to the chapel is even more profound as he expressed his desire to be buried there when his time comes. In his words, "It's a hole that's dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there. People think it's really weird and really morbid, but I've had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do."

Sheeran, who is happily married to Cherry Seaborn, has faced personal challenges in recent times, including his wife's health struggles and the loss of his close friend, Jamal Edwards. Despite these challenges, the artist continues to captivate audiences worldwide with his music and remains deeply connected to his roots and the people he cares about.

Ed Sheeran shares why he has his own grave dug out in the backyard of his home

Many of Ed Sheeran's fans were left angry on Saturday night when the musician cancelled his Las Vegas concert at the Allegiant Stadium less than an hour before the show was scheduled to start.

“I can’t believe I’m typing this but there have been some challenges encountered during the load in of our Vegas show. It’s impossible to go forward with the show. I’m so sorry. I know everyone has travelled (sic) in for this and I wish I could change it. The gig will be postponed to Saturday, October 28th and all purchased tickets will be valid for that date. I’m so, so sorry,” Sheeran wrote in a statement on Instagram.

While Sheeran promised that the concert would take place at a later stage, the last-minute cancellation still left many fans miffed. Some accused the singer of letting them wait in line and roast in heat. Los Angeles is experiencing over 100 degrees Faranheit temperature these days.

“There was zero reason to force fans to sit outside in 102 degrees with no water, little shade and zero communication. Watched fans passing out and vomiting. Unacceptable. And then to have the venue overcharge for water is disgusting,” one fan wrote on Instagram.

“Nah man. Your team kept everyone sitting outside in 100°+ blistering heat. Fans were literally passing out. Then they opened the gates (an hour late) and had the balls to open the merch tables and concession stands. Taking more of our money without saying it was cancelled! Shame on you. You owe us more than a future show we can’t even go to,” another person commented.

“Thanks for nothing. My wife and daughters missed out on this concert and can’t just show up in October. Weekend ruined. #lostafan #badweekend,” said one user.

Some fans though backed Sheeran and argued that the singer must have a legitimate reason for canceling the concert.

“Comments need to chill tf out. Do y’all not understand that there was a major safety concern to the point where he HAD to cancel… it’s not his fault that y’all decided to fly out to another city for a concert knowing you’d be in the heat without preparing,” one person noted.

“Give Ed your patience and kindness. No man puts his heart on the stage more than this guy!!!!” another wrote.

Ed Sheeran postpones Las Vegas gig due to 'technical issue'

Ed Sheeran, Adele named UK's wealthiest people under 35 in new list

Ed Sheeran has opened up for the first time since winning the Thinking Out Loud copyright infringement lawsuit last week. Sheeran won a case against Marvin Gaye who alleged that the Shape of You singer had copied 1973 hit song Lets Get It On.

While speaking to Good Morning America, Sheeran said, that it was "101 songs with the same chord sequence, and that was just, like, scratching the surface". He added that the jury "was very quick to see that and be like, `Oh, yeah`".

From the beginning of the case, Sheeran had maintained his stand in the case and denied that he had taken from Gaye`s song, despite the lawsuit brought by the family of Gaye`s co-writer on the song, the late Ed Townsend.

Sheeran`s song does recall the tempo and chord progression of Gaye`s hit, but finally, his testimony and performance of the song, solo on acoustic guitar, during the trial helped lean the jury in his favour. He even mashed it up with other songs that are generally similar.

Sheeran's court appearance also made headlines as he brought his guitar and played on the stand. When asked what inspired him to bring the instrument to court, the singer said, "I`d been wanting to do it for ages since it came out, but you have to do due diligence in court. So I just waited and knew that I would have my day to explain it and didn`t rush anything."

A New York jury took just three hours of deliberation to reach its verdict last Thursday.

Outside the courtroom, Sheeran had said, "These chords are common building blocks which were used to create music long before Let`s Get It On was written and will be used to make music long after we are all gone. They are in a songwriter`s `alphabet`, our toolkit, and should be there for all of us to use. No one owns them or the way they are played, in the same way that nobody owns the colour blue."

Ed Sheeran reveals what helped him win Thinking Out Loud lawsuit

Ed Sheeran recently spoke about his high-profile plagiarism trial, in which he was accused of copying Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" for his 2014 hit track "Thinking Out Loud. He said that he has not done anything wrong and that he won't have to retire from his job because the jury in the copyright infringement lawsuit has found him not guilty of any charges and ruled in his favour.

Candidly speaking about the lawsuit on CBS Sunday Morning, Sheeran said, "There's like four chords that get used in pop songs. And if you just think mathematically the likelihood of this song having the same chords as this song—there’s multiple, multiple songs—it’s all the same four chords … you are going to get this with every single pop song from now on."

The singer added, "Unless it just stops, which I don’t think it does because it’s a big money business to take things to court. But you can only get caught out if you’ve done something wrong, and I have not done something wrong. I used four chords that are very common chords to use."

To which, the interviewer asked, "Are you cool?" In response, Sheeran said, "Yeah. Yeah. It just, it riles me up, man."

After the verdict was announced on Thursday, Sheeran spoke to the reporters standing outside the US court. He said, "I am obviously very happy with the outcome of this case, and it looks like I’m not going to have to retire from my day job after all. But at the same time, I am unbelievably frustrated that baseless claims like this are allowed to go to court at all."

This case is just one of several Sheeran has faced over alleged copyright infringement. He is facing two other lawsuits in the same courthouse (Manhattan federal court) over the alleged similarities between "Thinking Out Loud" and "Let's Get It On," filed by a company that holds an 11.11 per cent stake in "Let's Get It On."

Sheeran has also faced litigation for allegedly copying aspects of the song "Amazing" in his hit "Photograph," and for copying Sami Chokri's song "Oh Why" in his song "Shape of You." He went on to win the latter but said “claims like this are way too common now and have become a culture where a claim is made with the idea that a settlement will be cheaper than taking it to court, even if there’s no base for the claim".

To which, the interviewer asked, "Are you cool?" In response, Sheeran said, "Yeah. Yeah. It just, it riles me up, man." He said, "I am obviously very happy with the outcome of this case, and it looks like I’m not going to have to retire from my day job after all. But at the same time, I am unbelievably frustrated that baseless claims like this are allowed to go to court at all." This case is just one of several Sheeran has faced over alleged copyright infringement. He is facing two other lawsuits in the same courthouse (Manhattan federal court) over the alleged similarities between "Thinking Out Loud" and "Let's Get It On," filed by a company that holds an 11.11 per cent stake in "Let's Get It On." Sheeran has also faced litigation for allegedly copying aspects of the song "Amazing" in his hit "Photograph," and for copying Sami Chokri's song "Oh Why" in his song "Shape of You." He went on to win the latter but said “claims like this are way too common now and have become a culture where a claim is made with the idea that a settlement will be cheaper than taking it to court, even if there’s no base for the claim". Ed Sheeran opens up about copyright trial: 'It riles me up'

Just days after winning the copyright battle, British pop artist Ed Sheeran gave an interview to promote his new album and spoke about how the copyright dispute for his 2014 song Thinking Out Loud was recently resolved, with the pop star being found not guilty of plagiarising Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On.

Sheeran-Gaye copyright trial: Ed Sheeran reflects on his recent victory

A jury in the US decided on Thursday (May 4) that “Thinking Out Loud”, the popular English singer Ed Sheeran’s 2014 hit, did not unlawfully copy from Marvin Gaye’s classic 1973 song “Let's Get It On.” The British musician expressed joy and relief after the verdict and called the ruling good news for creative freedom.

After the verdict, he hugged his legal team inside a Manhattan federal courtroom. Jurors ruled that he had “independently” created the song. Sheeran told reporters outside that he was “very happy” but “unbelievably frustrated that baseless claims like this” even make it to trial.

“It is devastating and also insulting to be accused of stealing other people's songs when we put so much into our livelihoods,” said Sheeran, adding that he’s “just a guy with a guitar who loves writing music for people to enjoy.”

“I am not and will never allow myself to be a piggy bank for anyone to shake,” said Sheeran.

The court also determined that Sheeran’s label Warner Music Group and his music publisher Sony Music Publishing did not violate the copyright as heirs of “Let’s Get It On” songwriter Ed Townsend were not able to prove the infringement of their copyright interest in the Gaye song.

“I want to thank the jury for making the decision that will help protect the creative process for songwriters here in the United States and all around the world,” said Sheeran outside the court.

He also spoke about how if the jury would have “decided this matter the other way, we might as well say goodbye to the creative freedom of songwriters.”

The closely-watched trial came to an end after six days and less than three hours of jury deliberations. This comes after the heirs of Gaye co-writer Ed Townsend alleged that Sheeran copied the song’s “harmonic progressions,” “melodic and rhythmic elements,” and “repeated it continuously” throughout his song.

Sheeran had previously denied the allegations and argued that Gaye’s song only has routine elements that are not unique or protectable. The lawsuit had focused on the musical building blocks of Gaye’s song, not the lyrics or the overall feel.

The heirs sought a share of the profits from Sheeran’s 2014 hit song and in a court filing said that they received 22 per cent of the writer’s share of Gaye’s song from Townsend.

Singer Ed Sheeran wins ‘Let's Get It On’ copyright trial, says he's 'very happy'

The heirs of Ed Townsend, who wrote the 1973 slow jam classic "Let's Get It On" with Marvin Gaye, are suing the British singer-songwriter. They claim that Sheeran's 2014 song unlawfully appropriated the anthem's harmonic progressions, melodic structures, and rhythmic elements.

Ed Sheeran has reportedly said that if he loses the ongoing copyright infringement lawsuit, he will quit music for good. The suit has been filed by the heirs of Ed Townsend, co-writer and composer of Marvin Gaye's song "Let's Get It On." They allege that Sheeran unlawfully used the "heart" of the song in his hit "Thinking Out Loud" by copying its "harmonic progressions," "melodic and rhythmic elements," and "repeating it continuously" throughout his song. Sheeran, however, has denied the allegations and argued that Gaye's song only contains routine elements that are not unique or protectable. The lawsuit specifically focuses on the musical building blocks of Gaye's song, rather than its lyrics or overall feel.
