"India's population is 17 per cent of the global population, but in global carbon emissions India is only at 4 per cent. We are moving fast in achieving the NDC targets. In fact, we reached our non-fossil fuel targets nine years before the deadline," PM Modi said.

He was referring to the climate action plan called the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), which is aimed at cutting emissions and adapting to climate impacts.

<h2>PM Modi announces 'Green Credit initiative'</h2>

Addressing world leaders, PM Modi said that India has set the target to cut down emissions intensity by nearly 45 per cent by 2030. 
 
"We have decided to increase the share of non-fossil fuel to 50 per cent. We will also keep going ahead towards our goal of net zero by 2070," he said. 
 
The prime minister announced a unique programme, which was introduced by the Indian Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, from the COP28 stage.

They added that if India insists on complaining on security grounds, the ICC must appoint an independent security agency, which could liaise with the Pakistan government and their security officials to assess the situation of the participating teams, including India.

Later in the evening, the ICC confirmed&nbsp;that&nbsp;the Indian government approved the Pakistani team's visas for the mega event in the subcontinent.&nbsp;

It is to be noted that the visa clearance has come less than 48 hours before Pakistan's scheduled travel to India, via Dubai, in the early hours of September 27 (Wednesday).&nbsp;

There is yet no end to the drama as confusion remained in the Pakistan camp over the grant of visa.

"We have not got the call from Indian High Commission yet over visa clearance. Member of our team is stationed there," PCB spokesperon Umar Farooq informed the same&nbsp;agency.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, it is believed that&nbsp;a 10-day process was always in place, with as many as&nbsp;three ministries in India --&nbsp;including External Affairs and Home --&nbsp;involved in the matter of giving clearance to Pakistani visas.

The same procedure is in line&nbsp;for all applications from Pakistan and, hence, there was no specific delay (as reported by PCB).

Moreover, the complaint stating that&nbsp;Pakistan squad could not travel to Dubai holds no significance&nbsp;because there was always the need for biometric tests.

CWC '23: After much delay, Pakistan visa issues sorted, team cleared to travel to India

Ahead of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) summit scheduled to be held in&nbsp;Dubai later this year, senior executives from UAE's national oil company are said to be working with the COP28 team, providing ‘support’ to handle the all-important climate summit, a Guardian report has claimed.&nbsp;

The publication, citing a leaked COP28 communications strategy document stated that two PR professionals from the&nbsp;Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) were currently providing "additional support" to the COP28 team running the summit. The development comes at a time when the UAE is ramping up its campaign surrounding the summit, despite obvious doubts surrounding its legitimacy.&nbsp;

The two executives identified as&nbsp;Philip Robinson and Paloma Berenguer have a combined experience of 28 years in the fossil fuel industry, according to their LinkedIn accounts. Prior to working for Adnoc, they worked with another fossil fuel giant - Shell.&nbsp;

The government of UAE, on whose soil the climate summit will take place, controls six per cent of the world's oil reserves. A country with heavy reliance on fossil fuel is needed to take a non-controversial line when hosting a summit of such significance. However, it appointed Al Jaber - a fossil fuel boss&nbsp;and Adnoc's chief executive&nbsp;as the head of COP28.&nbsp;

Earlier this year, reports claimed that members of Jaber's team edited Wikipedia pages to 'control the narrative'&nbsp;amid criticism of an oil boss leading the main summit aimed at tackling the climate crisis.

One of the edited Wikipedia entries includes adding an editorial that said Al Jaber was “precisely the kind of ally the climate movement needs”. The editors also removed reference to a multibillion-dollar oil pipeline deal.&nbsp;

After WION carried out the&nbsp;report, COP28 reached out and stated Al Jaber's page was absolutely accurate and that information about the posts he had handled were in the public domain.&nbsp;

"Every business and public figure revisits Wikipedia pages and reviews the content to ensure that it is up to date and accurate. That is how this platform is built. Dr Al Jaber’s Wikipedia page represents his over 30-year career. Everything in his Wikipedia page is absolutely accurate," read the statement.&nbsp;

However, a few months later, another report claimed that Adnoc was able to read emails 'to and&nbsp;from' the COP28 climate summit office and was consulted on how to respond to a media inquiry.&nbsp;

The Asia Cup 2023 edition has been a huge letdown for cricket fans across the globe. The continental tournament kicked off on August 30 in Multan, Pakistan before the action shifted completely to Colombo, Sri Lanka for the Super Four round. While the multi-nation event is being held to help the participating teams prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which starts early next month, but a lot of games have been interrupted due to persistent rain in Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

During the Super Four game between India and Pakistan, which has been pushed to the reserve day on Monday (September 10) due to rain and wet outfield, former Indian cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri opined on why Dubai was not considered as host for the Asia Cup.

It is to be noted that Dubai was also in talks to become joint-hosts or the sole host but got ruled out eventually. Shastri has backed the decision as he feels the hot and humid conditions in Dubai would have 'finished' players before the ODI World Cup in India, in October-November.

Shastri said on the Cricket Live Show on Star Sports, "If you actually see at this moment in time, there is rain everywhere. You know, there was talk about that it could have been played in Dubai. You look at Bangladesh, northern India, Mumbai, the coastline of India… there is rain everywhere."

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram backed Shastri's views and added, "I know it’s frustrating for the players and the fans back home in India, Pakistan and worldwide as well but this thing you cannot control. A lot of people are criticising a lot of people regarding the Asia Cup but this decision has been made. There is no point criticising now, nothing can happen. A lot of people say it should have been played in Pakistan. We can discuss this topic but it's not our job."

At present, the India-Pakistan Super Four face-off has resumed in Colombo on Monday evening. India are aiming for a big score after a fine start from openers Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58) after Babar Azam-led Pakistan opted to bowl first on Sunday (September 10).
