Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative commentator and close ally of US President Donald Trump, was tragically killed in a shooting at a Utah college event on Wednesday (September 10). Kirk criticised Pakistan for harboring terrorists, calling it a “deceptive actor,” while pointing to the anger in India’s majority Hindu population following the attack. He referenced reports of air and missile strikes on multiple sites in Pakistan, resulting in casualties and aircraft losses on both sides. NASA presented proof of ancient life on Mars at a press conference on Wednesday (September 10), claiming a win not just for the space agency but also for President Donald Trump. Acting Administrator Sean Duffy, who is also the United States Secretary of Transportation, led the gathering of journalists to inform them how the Perseverance rover had collected a rock sample that contains proof of microbial life on the Red Planet billions of years ago. Duffy ensured to claim that the rover was launched during Trump's first tenure as president. Notably, the rover took off for space on July 30, 2020, the last year of Trump's presidency. This reference was not only made to make sure that Trump was credited with the discovery, but also aimed to dismiss claims that the Trump administration is not interested in pursuing space exploration. The president has been slammed for reducing NASA's budget, a move that caused an uproar among the scientific community.
NASA budget cuts by Trump administration
Donald Trump has substantially cut down on NASA's budget for the year 2026. On May 2, the Trump administration proposed cutting NASA funding by nearly 25 per cent, bringing it down from $24.8 billion to $18.8 billion. Most of this reduction will happen in the agency's science programs. According to The Planetary Society, a nonprofit exploration advocacy organisation, the 2026 budget would be the agency's lowest since 1961 when adjusted for inflation. Scientists have argued that this will affect the Artemis moon missions and the agency's next steps towards space exploration, including putting a man on Mars. A senior administration official told The Journal that Netanyahu “continually boxes Trump in with aggressive moves” that clash with Trump’s push for a cease-fire and the release of hostages. Trump still supports Israel’s fight against Hamas but has warned Netanyahu to scale back the bombardment of Gaza, fearing that images of the destruction are hurting Israel’s global reputation.
Netanyahu signals more strikes ahead
In a video statement, Netanyahu defended the attack and warned of more to come. “I say to Qatar and all nations who harbor terrorists, you either expel them or you bring them to justice. Trump has worked to strengthen ties with Gulf states, particularly Qatar, which recently gifted the US a $400 million luxury jet for use as Air Force One and announced plans for a Trump-branded golf resort. Trump’s frustration with Netanyahu grows Despite his strong support for Israel, Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with Netanyahu’s moves that often undercut U.S. policy. Netanyahu signals more strikes ahead In a video statement, Netanyahu defended the attack and warned of more to come. “I say to Qatar and all nations who harbor terrorists, you either expel them or you bring them to justice. Because if you don’t, we will,” he said. Trump, meanwhile, has linked Israel’s offensive to his own ambitions for peace, insisting the latest strike “could serve as an opportunity for Peace.”

Donald Trump clashed with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu after learning mid-operation about Israel’s strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar. Trump, angered at being blindsided, told Netanyahu the attack “wasn’t wise.”

Trump shifts tone
Just last week, Trump had criticised New Delhi, saying India had offered to cut tariffs on US goods to zero “too late” and should have lowered them years ago. The more positive message now comes after months of turbulent negotiations. Talks have often stalled, with India warning that Trump’s 50% tariffs on Indian exports could reduce the country’s GDP growth by half a percentage point this year. Trump doubled the duties on Indian imports after New Delhi refused to halt purchases of Russian oil, which Washington argues help fund Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
The scale of trade ties
Two-way goods trade between the US and India stood at $129 billion in 2024, with the US recording a $45.8 billion deficit, according to data from the US Census Bureau. Alongside trade, Washington will send a delegation on 17–18 September to discuss India’s concerns over the $3 billion purchase of six P8I anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The two sides are also expected to sign an agreement this month for 113 GE-404 aircraft engines to power India’s Tejas Mark I A fighter jets.

'Trump knew...': Why US allowed Israel's air strike on 'close ally Qatar'

US President Donald Trump on Monday (Sep 8) downplayed domestic violence as he went on a bizarre rant complaining about how offences by men against their wives were skewing his crime statistics. Speaking to faith leaders in Washington, the US president claimed that crime in the national capital was down to "virtually nothing" since he sent in the National Guard a month ago. Appearing annoyed, he followed up the claim by saying that, despite this, the crime statistics fail to show crime had reduced by 100 per cent, all because law enforcement continues to record what he referred to as "lesser things" like domestic matters.
Trump said what?
Addressing the White House Religious Liberties Commission at the Museum of the Bible, Trump claimed that crime in Washington was "virtually nothing" but that "much lesser things...that take place in the home" were skewing his statistics. "They say crime's down 87 per cent. I said: 'No, no, no, it's more than 87 per cent—it's virtually nothing.' And much lesser things, you know, things that take place in the home, they call crime," he said. Taking a dig at Democrats, he then claimed that the crime figures were because of people who will "do anything they can to find something". The controversial president then proceeded to flippantly comment, "If a man has a little fight with the wife, they say 'this was a crime, see?'
People appalled by Trump's flippant comments on domestic violence
As expected Trump's thoughtless remarks sparked a furious backlash on social media with netizens accusing the US president of callously dismissing an issue that affects about 12 million Americans every year. "I just can't fathom a decent man speaking at a religious event and thinking minimizing domestic abuse should be a talking point in his speech. I wish supporters would start saying 'hey man that's not cool' instead of always nodding along like this is normal or should be," wrote one user. "Oh sure, just a ‘little fight’. Tell that to the millions of survivors living with broken homes, trauma, and fear," glibbed another, adding "What a champion of law and order." A third user noted that Trump's flippant remark serve as a "confession," adding that "The casual ease with which he dismisses violence against women as a 'little fight' tells you everything you need to know about his character. It's a crystal-clear window into a mind that is simply incapable of seeing certain people as full human beings." Yet another user pointed out that in a 1989 deposition Trump's ex-wife Ivana Trump revealed under oath that the POTUS raped her during a violent encounter. "Angry over a painful scalp reduction surgery, Ivana claimed he assaulted her, pulling out clumps of her hair and forcing her into sex."

At a speech to faith leaders, US President Donald Trump downplayed domestic violence, complaining that "lesser things" like "a little fight with the wife" were skewing crime statistics. This, from a man who was once accused of marital rape by his ex-wife.

The controversial president then proceeded to flippantly comment, "If a man has a little fight with the wife, they say 'this was a crime, see?' So now I can’t claim 100 per cent." House Oversight Committee Democrats on Monday (September 8) released what they claim is a personal note from US President Donald Trump to Jeffrey Epstein, included in a 2003 birthday tribute book. The page reportedly contains a short handwritten message, Trump’s signature, and a sketch of a curvaceous woman. The message refers to a “wonderful secret,” which Democrats say raises serious questions. In a post on X, the Oversight Democrats wrote: “We now have the birthday message Trump insisted never existed. He wrote about a ‘wonderful secret’ they shared. What is he hiding? Release the documents.” According to the committee, the alleged note reads: “A pal is a wonderful thing. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), the panel’s ranking member, added on X: “We got the Epstein note Trump denied. It’s time to end this cover-up.” The Trump camp responded almost immediately, rejecting the claim outright. Back in July, when the Wall Street Journal first disclosed parts of the alleged note, Trump dismissed the story. “That’s not how I write, that’s not how I talk, and I don’t draw,” he said. He later filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the Journal, accusing it of knowingly pushing a false narrative.

US President Donald Trump's White House trade advisor has done it again; Peter Navarro has once again taken a potshot at India. What's different this time? This time dragging the entire BRICS bloc into his tirade and has gone as far as calling India and others "vampires sucking our (America's) blood dry with their unfair trade practices". Navarro made the bizarre statement during a TV interaction. He also claimed that without selling to the United States, the BRICS nations would not survive. Here's all you need to know about Navarro's latest attack against India.
What did Navarro say?
In a TV interview, Navarro said the countries in BRICS — which includes India, China, Russia, Brazil, and South Africa, along with new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Indonesia — "would not survive without selling to the US.""When they sell to the US their exports they are like vampires sucking our blood dry with their unfair trade practices," he claimed. He went further, alleging that BRICS nations "hate each other and kill each other" historically. Navarro singled out India and China, describing the two as having been "at war for decades."

US President Donald Trump on Friday (Sep 5) suggested he might deploy National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon—a move apparently triggered by a misleading television report that showed video from the city's 2020 protests as if it were filmed this summer. White House advisor Peter Navarro had a public meltdown on Sunday (Sep 7) after one of his posts targeting India's purchase of Russian oil was flagged by a community note on X. Navarro, who, in recent days, has repeatedly accused New Delhi of profiteering from its energy trade with Moscow, wrote on X that India was buying Russian crude "purely to profit/revenues feed Russia war machine". However, the factually wrong post was fact-checked by users, which caused Navarro to have a full-on public meltdown and lash out at US President Donald Trump's former closest ally, Elon Musk. Navarro took to accusing Musk of “letting propaganda into people's posts” while calling the community note a "crap note". Here's what happened.
Navarro fact-checked
In a post on Saturday (Sep 6) Navarro claimed as "fact" that India's "highest tariffs costs US jobs". He claimed that New Delhi "buys Russian oil purely to profit/Revenues feed Russia war machine," leading to deaths of both Ukrainians and Russians, and causing US taxpayers to "shell out more".Also read | Peter Navarro calls India ‘Kremlin laundromat’, targets Brahmins in shocking remark: 'Brahmins profiteering at the expense of...'However, his factually incorrect post invited a fact-check in the form of a community note.
Navarro's public meltdown over India
The correction appeared to rattle Navarro. Dismissing the note as "crap," he lashed out at Elon Musk for "letting propaganda into people's posts" and doubled down on his accusations. "India buys Russia oil solely to profiteer. It didn't buy any before Russia invaded Ukraine. Indian govt spin machine moving high tilt. Stop killing Ukranians [Ukrainians]. Stop taking American jobs," Navarro wrote. It must be noted that Musk had nothing to do with the community note. According to X, these notes, "aim to create a better informed world by empowering people on X to collaboratively add context to potentially misleading posts."
Trump aide's continuous India attacks
Navarro's language toward India has become increasingly sharp. From calling the country a "Kremlin laundromat" to even resorting to caste-based slurs like "Brahmins are profiteering," he has kept up a steady barrage of attacks against New Delhi.India, meanwhile, has rejected his claims outright. The Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday called Navarro's statements "inaccurate and misleading", stressing that the India-US relationship remains a "comprehensive global strategic partnership" anchored in shared interests and democratic values.
