As US‑Iran ceasefire talks continue, one of the main sticking points remains Iran’s demand for the right to uranium enrichment, which Tehran views as a sovereign right and central to long‑term negotiations. The United States, however, insists that nuclear enrichment remains a red line and refuses to accept Tehran’s demand as part of any deal.

US-Iran Ceasefire: Iran Demands Right to Enrichment, US Says it Remains a Red Line

As the United States butts heads with Iran in a conflict that has consumed the world for weeks now, it has been engaged in another conflict with the Vatican. A new report suggests that the Pentagon issued a warning to the church and complained about a speech given by Pope Leo that it believed was an attack on President Donald Trump. The Free Press reported that things have been rocky between the White House and Pope Leo XIV, the first US-born Pope. It states that the Pentagon invited the Holy See ambassador to the US, Cardinal Christophe Pierre, to talk about a speech delivered by the Pope in January this year. Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby complained to Cardinal Pierre and apparently issued a stern warning that the “Church had better take its side." Other officials also invoked the 14th-century Avignon Papacy, during which time the Church was under the control of the French monarchy. “America has the military power to do whatever it wants in the world. The Catholic Church had better take its side,” Colby reportedly said, according to Free Press. The officials also mentioned the Avignon Papacy, which was seen as a historical warning of what happens when the Papacy opposes a dominant world power. On January 9, Pope Leo XIV said during an annual address, "a diplomacy that promotes dialogue and seeks consensus among all parties is being replaced by a diplomacy based on force.” It was widely interpreted to be targeted at Trump and his aggressive foreign policy of sanctions and coercion, also being called the Donroe Doctrine. When Trump issued his “wipe out an entire civilization” remark earlier this week, the Pope condemned it as "truly unacceptable". Pope Leo XIV has also often criticised the Trump administration’s "inhuman treatment of immigrants.”
JD Vance reacts to Pentagon's threat to the Vatican report
A public "war of words" has also been going on between Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Pope Leo XIV. On March 26, 2026, he led a Pentagon prayer service where he reportedly prayed for "overwhelming violence of action" against adversaries. Pope Leo XIV responded by saying that God "rejects war" and "does not listen to the prayers of those who wage it." Vice President JD Vance was asked about the reported threat to the Vatican, and he has said that he will review the matter.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned that any country supplying military weapons to Iran will face immediate 50 per cent tariffs with no exemptions. His announcement came in a social media post days after agreeing to a two-week ceasefire with Tehran, according to Reuters. "A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately," the US President wrote in a post on Truth Social.

In a separate post, Trump stated that the United States will “work closely” with Iran following what he called it as a “very productive regime change," and also claimed that there would be no further advancement of uranium in Iran. "The United States will work closely with Iran, which we have determined has gone through what will be a very productive Regime Change! There will be no enrichment of Uranium, and the United States will, working with Iran, dig up and remove all of the deeply buried (B-2 Bombers) Nuclear “Dust.” It is now, and has been, under very exacting Satellite Surveillance (Space Force!). Nothing has been touched since the date of the attack. We are, and will be, talking Tariff and Sanctions relief with Iran. Many of the 15 points have already been agreed to," Trump posted on Truth Social.
US-Iran ceasefire
The ceasefire was announced about 90 minutes before the 8 pm EST deadline set by Donald Trump for Iran to reach an agreement, following behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts. In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday (local time), Trump said he would pause further escalation for two weeks if Iran agreed to reopen the key shipping route. “The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning long-term peace with Iran, and peace in the Middle East,” Trump wrote. Also read: Deadlines, destruction and diplomacy: A timeline of US-Israel-Iran war

US President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran. The US-Israeli coalition, which started with the premise of regime change and halting nuclear enrichment of Iran, has resulted in the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. It also resulted in the death of several Iranian top leaders, including the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. 1900 Iranian civilians and tens of thousands of other were also injured. The man, identified as Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, as per ICE, is allegedly a member of the Los Angeles 18th Street gang. At a press conference, a reporter asked Donald Trump about his mental state, leading him to spiral and say things that further raised questions about his capability to lead the United States. His words like "Open the F--kin’ Strait, you crazy bastards" and "a whole civilization will die tonight" have further led to American lawmakers being called on to invoke the 25th Amendment.

A proposed two-week ceasefire in the United States–Iran conflict is subject to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, according to Donald Trump. Washington said the temporary truce would take effect once safe maritime passage through the vital global oil route is ensured. The development comes as both sides explore negotiations toward a broader agreement, with the Hormuz shipping corridor remaining central to regional security and global energy markets.

US President Donald Trump has said the United States will help with traffic buildup in the Strait of Hormuz, as efforts continue to restore maritime movement following a temporary US-Iran ceasefire. The key shipping corridor through which a major share of the world’s oil flows—has seen disruption during the conflict.

Stephen King, the acclaimed author of several horror thriller novels, said on Tuesday that one of his books talked about a figure exactly like Donald Trump. The Dead Zone is a 1979 thriller about a man who wakes up from a coma with the power to see the future. This character then sees a future with a US president who threatens the world with nuclear war. Referring to the book, King wrote on BlueSky, "I predicted someone like Trump many years ago, in THE DEAD ZONE." He called for urgent action to avoid a major disaster. "So now I'm saying this--in the next 12-16 months, we're going to find out if the two machines for the removal of a man unable to fulfil his duties actually work. They are the impeachment and the 25th Amendment. He is deeply unwell," King wrote. US-Iran War: US & Iran Agree Two-Week Ceasefire, Israel Also On Board

US President Donald Trump has paused planned strikes on Iran just ahead of his “obliteration deadline”, signaling a temporary shift toward diplomacy amid escalating tensions in the US-Iran war. The pause comes as negotiations continue over reopening the Strait of Hormuz and a possible ceasefire framework.

US-Iran War: Trump Pauses Iran Strikes Before ‘Obliteration Deadline'

A new phrase is beginning to circulate in geopolitical and financial circles, the ‘TACO method’. It describes a pattern that appears increasingly visible in US President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran crisis: Threat, Anxiety, Chaos… and then an off-ramp. The latest episode unfolded just hours before what was expected to be a major escalation. Trump had warned that if Iran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8 pm Eastern Time, the United States would launch devastating attacks, rhetoric that included threats of wiping out ‘an entire civilization’. Markets reacted immediately. Oil prices surged, equities wobbled, and global uncertainty spiked. And then, just as the world braced for impact, Trump stepped back. What's happening?
A cycle of threats that moves markets
What makes this moment significant is not just the escalation, but the pattern. Each cycle appears to begin with a dramatic threat. Trump’s language, often maximalist and urgent, injects immediate uncertainty into global systems. In the Iran case, the stakes are especially high due to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply flows. The reaction is almost instant and predictable:

Oil prices spike on fears of supply disruption

Stock markets fall amid rising geopolitical risk

Investors shift toward safe-haven assets like gold

Governments and allies push for restraint

This phase creates a wave of pressure, economic, political, and diplomatic. As tensions escalate, the cost of following through on threats rises, not just for adversaries, but for the global economy and domestic stability as well.
The sudden pivot: From chaos to calm
Then comes the reversal. At the peak of uncertainty, the strategy appears to pivot toward de-escalation, a ceasefire, a delay, or a conditional negotiation. In this case, the condition was clear: Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a halt in US military action. The shift is immediate:

Oil prices cool as supply fears ease

Stock markets rebound, often sharply

Risk sentiment returns across global markets

Diplomatic channels take center stage

This pattern, threat followed by retreat, is what analysts are increasingly labeling as the “TACO method.” Supporters argue it is a form of calculated brinkmanship: apply maximum pressure to force concessions, then offer an off-ramp to avoid full-scale conflict. Critics, however, warn that such cycles create unnecessary volatility and carry serious risks of miscalculation. Because in geopolitics, timing is everything. If a threat is taken too seriously or a retreat comes too late, the consequences may no longer be reversible. https://www.wionews.com/videos/us-iran-war-two-week-period-to-be-used-to-negotiate-larger-agreement-1775618956501/embed Trump’s handling of the Iran crisis is beginning to look less like unpredictability and more like a structured cycle of pressure and release. In the Iran case, the stakes are especially high due to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply flows. The reaction is almost instant and predictable: Oil prices spike on fears of supply disruption Stock markets fall amid rising geopolitical risk Investors shift toward safe-haven assets like gold Governments and allies push for restraint This phase creates a wave of pressure, economic, political, and diplomatic. As tensions escalate, the cost of following through on threats rises, not just for adversaries, but for the global economy and domestic stability as well. The sudden pivot: From chaos to calm Then comes the reversal. At the peak of uncertainty, the strategy appears to pivot toward de-escalation, a ceasefire, a delay, or a conditional negotiation. In this case, the condition was clear: Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a halt in US military action. The shift is immediate: Oil prices cool as supply fears ease Stock markets rebound, often sharply Risk sentiment returns across global markets Diplomatic channels take center stage This pattern, threat followed by retreat, is what analysts are increasingly labeling as the “TACO method.” Supporters argue it is a form of calculated brinkmanship: apply maximum pressure to force concessions, then offer an off-ramp to avoid full-scale conflict. Threaten hard. Let the world react. Then step back. For now, markets seem to be learning the rhythm, falling on escalation, rising on relief. But the real danger lies in assuming the cycle will always reset. Because one day, it might not. A senior U.S. official has confirmed that a ceasefire in the ongoing US‑Iran war will take effect only once the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz is fully reopened, linking the pause in fighting directly to the restoration of maritime traffic through the chokepoint.
