The Republican Party intends to keep using former President Donald Trump`s name in fundraising pitches and other materials, a lawyer for the party said on Monday, despite a cease-and-desist letter from Trump last week. 
 
The letter sent by lawyers for Trump on Friday to the Republican National Committee, National Republican Congressional Campaign and National Republican Senate Campaign had ramped up tension between the two camps as Trump seeks to preserve his political viability post-election. 
 
A Trump adviser said on Saturday that Trump was sensitive to the use of his name and likeness for branding purposes and was irked the three groups have supported Republican lawmakers who joined Democrats in voting to impeach him over the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters. 
 
In a response letter, the Republican National Committee said that Trump "reaffirmed" to RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel over the weekend that he approves of the party`s current use of his name, wrote Justin Riemer, the RNC`s top lawyer.

The letter indicated Trump would participate in the party`s donor retreat scheduled for next month in Palm Beach, Florida, which is home to Trump`s Mar-a-Lago resort. 
 
A representative for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter. 
 
But in a statement late on Monday, Trump declared: "No more money for RINOS," the acronym for the pejorative term "Republicans in Name Only."

In an effort separate from the Republican Party, Trump is using his Save America super PAC to raise money in part to help handpicked Republican candidates in the 2022 congressional elections. Some of them are expected to challenge Republican incumbents whom Trump considers disloyal. 
 
Still, Trump has committed to helping Republicans try to win back control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2022 elections that will be an early referendum on the leadership of Democratic President Joe Biden.

'Just putt it out': Twitter laughs at Trump's cheat move in golf

Former US president Donald Trump will be allowed back on YouTube but only when the threat of his inciting violence abates, the head of the popular online video sharing platform said Thursday.

YouTube in late January suspended Trump's channel, joining other social media platforms in banning his accounts following the deadly January 6 Capitol riot.

"We will lift the suspension of the Donald Trump channel when we determine that the risk of violence has decreased," YouTube chief Susan Wojcicki said during a streamed Atlantic Council interview.

"Given just the warnings by the Capitol Police yesterday about a potential attack today, I think it is pretty clear that that elevated violence risk still remains."

Wojcicki said that when the Trump channel is reinstated, it will remain subject to the same "three strike" system as everyone else at YouTube.

Uploading videos that break YouTube rules such as those against inciting violence or falsely attacking election integrity would earn the channel more strikes and suspensions.

Channels that get three strikes within a 90-day period are removed from YouTube, Wojcicki noted.

"This was the first strike," she said of the Trump channel.

"We have applied strikes to over world leaders; (Jair) Bolsonaro in Brazil for Covid-19 misinformation, channels taken down now in Myanmar."

Factors considered when assessing when it is safe to allow Trump back on YouTube will include online rhetoric along with concerns expressed by police departments and government agencies regarding risks of politically fueled violence, according to Wojcicki.

She felt it important to hold world leaders to the same standards as everyone else on YouTube, reasoning that it is "a very dangerous path to say some people have a free pass" when it comes to breaking content rules.

The Google-owned firm has faced criticism over its slow response following the violence in Washington, as well as the proliferation of conspiracy theories on the platform.

Trump has been banned from other online platforms including Twitter and Facebook. An independent board created by Facebook is reviewing the decision by the leading social network.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested Federico Klein, a former State Department aide appointed by former President Donald Trump, in connection with the January 6 Capitol riots.

Klein, 42, was picked up by federal agents in Virginia, according to a spokesperson for the FBI's field office in Washington, D.C. Details on the charges against him and his alleged role in the deadly riot were not immediately available.

Klein worked on the 2016 Trump campaign and was later appointed to the State Department.Klein is believed to be the first Trump appointee to be charged in connection to the January 6 insurrection.

About all the 60 witnesses interviewed for the report called Jackson's behaviour "screaming, cursing" and spoken about his "yelling, screeching, rage, tantrums and meltdowns" while dealing with subordinates.

The former White House top also used to pass "sexual and denigrating" remarks about a female co-worker and juniors, the report said.

Jackson, who was elected to Congress last year, straightaway denied the allegations, saying the inspector general has made "false allegations" as he refused to oppose Trump.&nbsp;

He did not stop at that, Trump also hinted at his return by claiming he may decide to beat the Democrats for a 'third' time, once again hinting that he has beaten Biden — the Democrat President — this time too.

"Who knows?" Trump continued. "I may even decide to beat them for a third time, OK?"

The disgraced former President also used this stage to put rumours to rest, concerning a divide within the Republican Party. "I am not starting a new party," he reassured the supporters who were busy buying Nancy Pelosi-themed toilet rolls. "We have the Republican Party. It's going to unite and be stronger than ever before."

Trump also made sure he takes out time to 'diss' the cancel culture — something that his daughter had been cribbing about towards the end of her father's presidency. He also spent time criticising Biden's policies on immigration, climate change and energy and, repeatedly, complained about the 'illegal' practises of the Democrats to, apparently, make Biden win the election — a claim he has not been able to prove since November 2020.

Even though he talked about bringing the Republican party back to unity, he also called out the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach him in the House of Representatives, and the seven Republicans who voted unsuccessfully to convict him in the Senate.

Once again, with the same energy he had while inciting Capitol riots, he urged the crowd to "get rid of them all" while talking about the Republicans who voted against him in his impeachment trial.

The United States on Tuesday imposed sanctions on seven senior Russians as it said its intelligence concluded that Moscow was behind the poisoning of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.

President Joe Biden's decision to impose sanctions for&nbsp;Navalny's poisoning reflects a harder stance than taken by his predecessor, Donald Trump, who let the incident last August pass without punitive US&nbsp;action.

“The United States is neither seeking to reset our relations with Russia, nor are we seeking to escalate," one official said.

"We believe that the United States and our partners must be clear and impose costs when Russia’s behavior crosses boundaries that are respected by responsible nations, and we believe there should be guard rails on how these adversarial aspects of our relationship play out," the official said.

Navalny&nbsp;fell ill on a flight in Siberia in August and was airlifted to Germany, where doctors concluded he had been poisoned with a nerve agent. The Kremlin has denied any role in his illness and said it had seen no proof he was poisoned.

The Kremlin in response said that the US&nbsp;sanctions&nbsp;would not achieve their goal and would merely worsen already strained relations.

In his turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday that Moscow would respond in kind to any new US&nbsp;sanctions over the treatment of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei&nbsp;Navalny.

EU foreign ministers agreed on February&nbsp;22 to impose sanctions on four senior Russian officials close to President Vladimir Putin in a mainly symbolic response to&nbsp;Navalny's jailing. The EU was expected to formally approve those in early March.

After his medical treatment in Germany,&nbsp;Navalny, 44, returned to Russia in January. He was arrested and later sentenced to more than 2-1/2 years in jail for parole violations he said were trumped up.

Biden last month called the jailing of&nbsp;Navalny&nbsp;"politically motivated" and called for his release. He has pledged a new and tough approach toward Moscow, saying the United States would no longer be "rolling over" in the face of aggressive action by Russia.

Donald Trump returns to the political spotlight Sunday, determined to regain control of a Republican Party that is out of power and pondering whether the flawed former president can win again in 2024.

The 74-year-old will address the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando in a highly-anticipated speech during which he is expected to tease attendees about his political future -- including the possibility of another presidential run.

He is sure to be greeted like a returning hero by a loyalist crowd as he calls for party unity -- and perhaps rips some of his critics -- on the final day of the nation's largest conservative gathering.&nbsp;

"We are not starting new parties, and we will not be dividing our power and our strength," Trump will say, according to Fox News.

"Instead, we will be united and strong like never before."

US political parties usually face a reckoning after a string of losses such as those the Republican Party saw under Trump in 2020: losing the White House, ceding the Senate and failing to take back the House of Representatives.

The party is also marked with Trump's repeated lies about his election loss to Joe Biden, his impeachment for inciting an insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6, and the extraordinary faultline his actions have caused between establishment Republicans and pro-Trump populists.

But, instead of jettisoning its failed leader and charting a new path to claw back relevance, much of the Republican party still sees Trump as retaining a vice-like grip on its future.&nbsp;

Concerns about interventionism abroad have replaced hawkish doctrine as the driving foreign policy force. Nativism has gone mainstream, and the politics of cultural grievance, focused heavily around race, dominate among conservatives that once delighted in mocking sensitive liberal “snowflakes.”

Of course, some of this rhetoric is not quite accurate. Although pandemic rules vary across the country, stay-at-home orders are lifted in all states, and businesses are largely open in most. Even as Republicans fret about being “canceled” by liberals, local parties in recent weeks have censured members of Congress who strayed from overwhelming support of Trump.

But Cruz is correct that there are some Republicans who hope that the party will revert to its pre-Trump policies and rhetoric. In interviews with Republican voters this past week, many showed little interest in returning to the conservative principles of the past — expressing support for policies like stimulus checks, concern about socialism and a desire for less intervention abroad. Many wanted Trump to run again. But even those who preferred someone new said they wanted to continue pushing his “America first” agenda.

Tim Faulkner, a retired park supervisor from Elgin, Arizona, said he believed that any potential candidate would have to earn the former president’s support and be able to carry his movement forward.

Zegan said the statue contains several symbolic elements that convey the spirit of Trump: the suit is for Trump's status as a businessman, the red tie represents the Republican party, the sandals are because Zegan thinks this is the time for Trump to be vacationing "in the lap of luxury" and the magic wand?

"The magic wand basically represents what Obama had said. You know, 'how is he going to bring back all these jobs? What does he have, some sort of magic wand?' " Zegan told Reuters.
