This July, Allen Weisselberg, the former chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, entered a guilty plea for his part in the tax fraud. Despite not helping the prosecution, he recently testified in the trial. The business entered a not-guilty plea.

Republican Donald Trump has claimed that the Justice Department is conducting a&nbsp;witch hunt.&nbsp;The confiscated documents are being examined by a special master, Senior U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie, to see if any of them are covered by executive privilege as claimed by Trump.

A president may keep some papers or information private under the legal theory known as executive privilege.

Asserting that both of these actions are impeding the criminal investigation, the Justice Department has requested a federal appeals court to put a halt to that review and grant it access to the unclassified papers found during the search.

<h2>Defamation case:&nbsp;E. Jean Carroll</h2>

E. Jean Carroll, a former journalist for Elle magazine, filed a defamation lawsuit against Trump in 2019 after he refuted her claim that he sexually assaulted her in the 1990s in a department&nbsp;store&nbsp;in New York City. In order to increase book sales, Trump charged her of lying.

Trump has contended that a federal provision that protects government workers from defamation charges shields him from Carroll's lawsuit. The Manhattan-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals determined in September that Trump was a government employee when he labelled Carroll a liar, but left open the issue of whether he was operating in his capacity as president at the time.

On January 10, 2023, an appeals court in Washington, D.C., will hear oral arguments and evaluate the issue.

Even if the defamation case is dropped, Carroll intends to sue Trump for violence and purposeful infliction of mental distress in accordance with New York state law.

<h2>Election rigging investigation in Georgia</h2>

The investigation into Trump's alleged attempts to sway the outcome of the 2020 election in Georgia was given extraordinary grand jury empanelled status in May.

A call that Republican Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger had from Trump on January 2, 2021 is one of the main topics of the inquiry. In order to "discover" the necessary number of votes to reverse Trump's Georgia loss, Raffensperger was tasked by Trump.

Trump could have broken at least three Georgia election-related criminal crimes, according to legal experts: conspiracy to commit election fraud, criminal solicitation to commit election fraud, and deliberate meddling with the conduct of elections.

<h2>US Capitol attack</h2>

The matter of whether Trump violated the law in his attempts to avenge his loss in the 2020 election is being looked into by a House of Representatives committee looking into the assault on the US Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021. The certification of the election results by Congress was a goal of the protesters.

The committee subpoenaed Trump in October to speak under oath and provide records.

Republican committee vice-chair Liz Cheney has stated the group may recommend potential criminal charges against Trump to the Justice Department.

Trump's federal crimes may or may not be investigated by the Justice Department. In the upcoming weeks, the panel will probably provide its findings.

The panel's inquiry has been criticised by Trump as being politically motivated.

Who is Jack Smith?

Jack Smith until recently served as the chief prosecutor for the International Court of Justice in The Hague. He was tasked with prosecuting war crimes in Kosovo. He previously oversaw the Justice Department’s public integrity section and worked as a federal and state prosecutor in New York.

This marks the second time in five years that the Justice Department has appointed a special counsel to probe Trump’s conduct.&nbsp;

Billionaire Rupert Murdoch may not support Donald Trump’s presidential run in 2024, according to The Guardian. FOX News, one of the most influential news channels in the United States which is owned by Murdoch, has supported the former President in the past but following the disappointing show by Republicans in the midterms, the support can shift to Florida governor Ron DeSantis, the report stated.&nbsp;

FOX News has been quite critical of the Republicans after the election results and blamed Trump for dragging the Republican Party into “one political fiasco after another”. While Republicans will most probably win control of the US House, the Democrats were able to maintain their majority in Senate.

Lachlan Murdoch, the eldest son of Rupert Murdoch, is currently part of the board of directors and the source said that he is also thinking of not backing Trump in 2024. &nbsp;“Lachlan has been keen on Ron for some time. He’s viewed within the organisation as a sanitised version of Donald.”

DeSantis banked on his management of the Florida floods to clinch a commendable victory in the governor’s race. He has not made his presidential bid clear till now, but he was verbally attacked by Trump, and it seems likely that the two politicians will clash in the Republican primaries.

Lead-up to 2016

In 2013, Trump spoke as a featured speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference and around this time started researching a possible run for President for the next term. Some New York Republicans wanted Trump to run for governor in 2014. His most popular stint has been on the TV show "The Apprentice", but in February 2015 he did not renew his contract with the show. This led to noise that Trump might finally be considering running for president.

On June 16, 2015, Trump announced at Trump Tower in New York City that he will be running for president. He highlighted domestic issues such as illegal immigration, job offshoring, the US national debt, and Islamic terrorism and his campaign slogan was "Make America Great Again", one which he still carries with him to every campaign rally.&nbsp;

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best ... They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with [them]. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people." This statement by Trump following the announcement led to sharp criticism among various circles. Several organisations distanced themselves from him. He even promised to build "a great, great wall" on the United States–Mexico border, stating that Mexico will pay for the wall.

He proposed "limits on legal immigration and guest-worker visas" and a pause on green cards to "allow record immigration levels to subside to more moderate historical averages". He also opposed the H-1B visa programme.

After becoming president, he went on to impose a travel ban on citizens of seven largely-Muslim countries. He places a prohibition over issuing visas to them and expanded the ban to 13 countries in 2020.&nbsp;

He also tried to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a program put in place by Barack Obama in 2012 to help those brought to the country as children but aren't lawfully in the country.&nbsp;

One of his most horrific policies was a "zero tolerance" policy that required the arrest of anyone caught illegally crossing the border. This led to children being separated from families and reportedly being kept in inhumane conditions.

During the campaign, Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen allegedly paid adult film actress Stormy Daniels hush money to stop her from talking about her affair with Trump between 2006 - 2007. While Cohen went on to admit that he did pay Daniels at the direction of Trump, the latter denied knowing anything about it.&nbsp;

A series of explosive hearings by the House of Representatives panel probing the attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021 offered a roadmap for potentially charging the ex-president with a crime.

Trump is also being investigated for pressuring officials in Georgia to overturn Democrat Joe Biden's 2020 victory. An infamous taped phone call allegedly points to Trump asking the secretary of state to "find" enough votes to reverse the result.

New York state attorney general, Letitia James has filed a civil suit against Trump and three of his children, accusing them of business fraud. Donald Trump Jr, Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump are accused of overvaluing multiple assets to secure loans and then undervaluing them to minimize taxes.

Trump is also being investigated for holding on to confidential documents after leaving the presidency. His Mar-a-Lago home was raided by the FBI in August in which it found several such documents.&nbsp;

The January 6 assault on the Capitol by Trump supporters will probably go down in history as one of the biggest black marks in US political history. After Trump denied Biden's victory, he gave a speech to his supporters following which hundreds of them attacked the Capitol. The matter is still under investigation and Trump says he has done nothing wrong.

Now that he has announced his presidential bid, despite a poor showing by his candidates in the midterms, and lack of support from within the party, it will be interesting to see how will Trump claw back into the place he enjoyed until just a few weeks back.&nbsp;

Although the wedding festivities went smoothly, the planning process was a bit worrying for Tiffany.

According to Page Six, just a few days ago, Tiffany was said to be "flipping out" and worried that Hurricane Nicole would ruin her big day, which is scheduled to take place at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday.

"Friday is supposed to be a welcome dinner and they aren't sure it's going to happen ... Tiffany is flipping out," a source told Page Six on Wednesday.

Page Six reports that others had to change their RSVPs after the Palm Beach International Airport closed and cancelled all flights, despite the fact that some guests were already in town when the hurricane made landfall.
