Exit polls show most voters don’t want Joe Biden to run for US presidency in 2024

The Republican Party went into the United States midterm elections full of confidence and with the dream of controlling both branches of the Congress – House and Senate. With President Joe Biden’s popularity going down and the country going through one of the worst inflations in recent times, it looked like an easy path for them, but the results have been less than satisfactory till now.

When it comes to the House, the Republicans were projected to cross the necessary 218-mark, but the lead was far less than predicted. Without a comfortable cushion of at least 10 seats, the Republicans will once again be forced to look for bipartisan support on certain key promises.

The story is even worse when it comes to the Senate race as the battle seemed for a close finish with Democratic candidate John Fetterman pulling off a sensational win over Dr Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania. The loss means that once again, the Senate can be headed for a 50-50 split and that means that the Vice President Kamala Harris will continue to tilt the scale in the Democrats’ favour.

The defeat of Dr Oz was also a signal of a bigger concern – the performance of the candidates handpicked by former President Donald Trump. The scene was not much different in Arizona where Kari Lake, a vocal denier of the 2020 election results, seemed all set to lose to Katie Hobbs in the governor’s race while in Michigan, Trump-endorsed Republican Tudor Dixon faced a similar fate.

Founder of the American far-right anti-government militia, Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes has said that his group had no plans to attack the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, during a sedition trial.

Rhodes’ remarks came while testifying on Monday saying that some members of his group had joined the pro-Trump mob, calling those who entered the building "stupid."

Rhodes, a Yale Law-educated former US Army paratrooper, is on trial along with Oath Keeper associates Thomas Caldwell, Kenneth Harrelson, Kelly Meggs and Jessica Watkins on seditious conspiracy and other charges in connection with the Capitol breach. They carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

When Rhodes was asked by his own attorney, Phillip Linder, whether he talked about, planned or implied breaching the Capitol.

"At 8:08 this morning, we had a male subject that was stopped at one of the gates refusing to leave the property. We responded, spoke briefly with him, and he was issued a written warning for trespass and he left the area so there wasn’t an incident report or anything associated with it."

The Mar-a-Lago residence was the venue of an FBI raid few months ago which resulted in the recovery of several classified documents from Trump’s tenure as President. The Department of Justice later said that it can contain evidence of “obstruction of justice” by Trump.

Neither the police nor the Secret Service confirmed whether Trump was staying at Mar-a-Lago when the trespassing was reported. However, FOX News said that it is unlikely that he was in Florida as the former president is stated to appear at a campaign rally in Iowa ahead of the mid-term elections.

The US Supreme Court on Tuesday (November 1) temporarily blocked the House of Representatives' Ways and Means Committee from accessing former President Donald Trump’s tax records.&nbsp;

Former US President Donald Trump on Friday (October 28) welcomed billionaire Elon Musk's purchase of social media platform Twitter. He said that he was pleased the platform was "now in sane hands." Musk concluded his bid to buy Twitter for USD 44 billion on Thursday after uncertainty and speculation that lasted for months.&nbsp;

"I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country," Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

Elon Musk, chief of Tesla and SpaceX, has already indicated that he would lift Twitter's ban on Trump. The platform had suspended Trump's account after January 6, 2021 riots on Capitol Hill which saw Trump supporters attacking US Capitol building. Trump was famous for his off the cuff tweets which even entered the realm of politics and policy-making, all while he himself was the US President.&nbsp;

The LIV Series, bankrolled by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, is offering up to $250 million in prize money for its eight events, including an eye-popping record $50 million purse this weekend at Trump National Doral Club where the first team champion will be crowned. But the Saudi money has come under plenty of scrutiny with critics accusing LIV&nbsp;golfers of being little more than well paid mercenaries in a "sportwashing" scheme by a nation trying to improve its reputation over its human rights record.

LIV&nbsp;Golf&nbsp;also spent nearly $1 billion in signing bonuses, according to reports, to lure away some of the PGA Tour's top names including major winners Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith, sparking a feud over how the sport is run.

"I think that ultimately something gets worked out but the Tour handled it so badly," Trump told a small group of media and supporters at the conclusion of his Pro Am round on Thursday. "The people at the top, something should happen with them. They are dealing with very good people with unlimited money."

Trump boasted that it was LIV that wanted to stage their season-ending extravaganza at his Miami club, adding that the PGA Tour was desperate to get back as well.

But Trump is currently harbouring a grudge with the PGA of America over the decision to pull the 2022 PGA Championship from his Bedminster property in New Jersey following the Jan. 6 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Woodward tape reveals Trump bragged about new US nuclear weapons

The family business of former US president Donald Trump is facing potential fines of over $1.5 million if found guilty of fraud and tax evasion during a New York trial set to begin Monday.

Manhattan prosecutors have charged the Trump Organization, currently run by Trump's two adult sons, Donald Jr and Eric Trump, with hiding compensation it paid to some of its top executives between 2005 and 2021.

One of those executives, longtime CFO Allen Weisselberg, has already pleaded guilty to 15 counts of tax fraud and is expected to testify against his former company as part of a plea bargain.

A close friend of the Trump family, the 75-year-old Weisselberg admitted he schemed with the company to receive undeclared benefits such as a rent-free apartment in a posh Manhattan neighborhood, luxury cars for him and his wife and private school tuition for his grandchildren.

According to his plea deal, Weisselberg has agreed to pay nearly $2 million in fines and penalties and complete a five-month prison sentence in exchange for testimony during the trial, for which jury selection begins Monday.

"This plea agreement directly implicates the Trump Organization in a wide range of criminal activity and requires Weisselberg to provide invaluable testimony in the upcoming trial against the corporation," Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said earlier in August.

Weisselberg has so far refused to give testimony directly implicating the former president in the scheme.

Two subsidiaries of the Trump family's sprawling real estate, golf and hospitality business are targeted by the suits.

While Donald Trump is not named in this case, he is facing charges along with three of his eldest children in another civil investigation led by New York's attorney general, Leticia James.

James, a Democrat, has accused the family of purposefully inflating and deflating the value of their properties to avoid tax liabilities and to get more favorable loan and insurance deals.

Her office is seeking $250 million in fines against the former president, and that his family be barred from conducting business in the state.

The suit also calls for three of Trump's children: Donald Jr, Eric and Ivanka, to be barred from purchasing real estate in New York for five years.

The 76-year-old Trump, who has heavily hinted but not yet announced a 2024 White House run, is also facing legal action on several other fronts, which he has decried as "witch hunts."

He is at the center of a Justice Department investigation into the handling of highly classified documents, which the FBI seized from his Florida home in a raid, as well as multiple state and federal probes into his involvement in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

The congressional committee investigating the Capitol riot has issued a subpoena requiring the former president to submit documents by November 4 and give sworn testimony by mid-November.

Without confirming that Trump had received the subpoena, his lawyer David Warrington has said his team would "review and analyze" the document and "respond as appropriate to this unprecedented action."

Trump's compliance would mean testifying under oath and could result in him being charged with perjury were he to lie.

Manhattan prosecutors have charged the Trump Organization, currently run by Trump's two adult sons, Donald Jr and Eric Trump, with hiding compensation it paid to some of its top executives between 2005 and 2021. One of those executives, longtime CFO Allen Weisselberg, has already pleaded guilty to 15 counts of tax fraud and is expected to testify against his former company as part of a plea bargain. A close friend of the Trump family, the 75-year-old Weisselberg admitted he schemed with the company to receive undeclared benefits such as a rent-free apartment in a posh Manhattan neighborhood, luxury cars for him and his wife and private school tuition for his grandchildren. According to his plea deal, Weisselberg has agreed to pay nearly $2 million in fines and penalties and complete a five-month prison sentence in exchange for testimony during the trial, for which jury selection begins Monday. "This plea agreement directly implicates the Trump Organization in a wide range of criminal activity and requires Weisselberg to provide invaluable testimony in the upcoming trial against the corporation," Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said earlier in August. Weisselberg has so far refused to give testimony directly implicating the former president in the scheme. Two subsidiaries of the Trump family's sprawling real estate, golf and hospitality business are targeted by the suits. While Donald Trump is not named in this case, he is facing charges along with three of his eldest children in another civil investigation led by New York's attorney general, Leticia James. James, a Democrat, has accused the family of purposefully inflating and deflating the value of their properties to avoid tax liabilities and to get more favorable loan and insurance deals. Her office is seeking $250 million in fines against the former president, and that his family be barred from conducting business in the state. The suit also calls for three of Trump's children: Donald Jr, Eric and Ivanka, to be barred from purchasing real estate in New York for five years. The 76-year-old Trump, who has heavily hinted but not yet announced a 2024 White House run, is also facing legal action on several other fronts, which he has decried as "witch hunts." He is at the center of a Justice Department investigation into the handling of highly classified documents, which the FBI seized from his Florida home in a raid, as well as multiple state and federal probes into his involvement in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol. The congressional committee investigating the Capitol riot has issued a subpoena requiring the former president to submit documents by November 4 and give sworn testimony by mid-November. Without confirming that Trump had received the subpoena, his lawyer David Warrington has said his team would "review and analyze" the document and "respond as appropriate to this unprecedented action." Trump's compliance would mean testifying under oath and could result in him being charged with perjury were he to lie.
