According to reports, the Department of Justice had recommended a six-month sentence and a fine of $200,000 against Bannon citing his, “sustained, bad-faith contempt of Congress.” The memo sent by the department to the court also points out how, “By flouting the Select Committee's subpoena and its authority, the defendant exacerbated that assault.”&nbsp;

Similarly, the prosecutors had also sought a six-month sentence as Prosecutor J.P. Cooney during Friday’s hearing highlighting the importance of the case said, "Bannon&nbsp;is not above the law, and that's what makes this case important.” The prosecutors called two witnesses while Bannon's team called none.&nbsp;

The former Trump adviser’s attorney David Schoen said that Bannon did not comply with the subpoena after the former president invoked executive privilege, which does not allow some of the White House communications from being disclosed to the public.

The defence also argued that he was being prosecuted for his political motives. However, the judge did not allow these assertions that Bannon relied on executive privilege and advice from his lawyers not to comply with the congressional subpoena.&nbsp;

Reports suggest that prior to the sentencing Judge Nichols asserted that the offence is subject to a minimum of one month in jail. The congressional subpoena reportedly&nbsp;sought any documents related to the former president or allies including Rudy Giuliani, or extremist far-right groups such as the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.&nbsp;

A California federal judge on Wednesday said then-U.S. president Donald Trump had signed a sworn statement asserting that voter fraud numbers included in a 2020 election lawsuit were accurate, despite being told the numbers were not correct.

US&nbsp;District Judge David Carter made the disclosure in ordering lawyer John Eastman to provide more emails to the congressional committee investigating the January&nbsp;6, 2021, attack on the US&nbsp;Capitol by Trump's supporters.

Eastman was one of Trump's attorneys when the former president and his allies challenged his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.

Representatives for Trump and Eastman did not immediately return requests for comment.

Carter said Wednesday that Trump had "signed a verification swearing under oath" that the inaccurate fraud numbers were "true and correct" or "believed to be true and correct" to the best of his knowledge and belief, when alleging the improper counting of votes in a county in Georgia.

"The emails show that President Trump knew that the specific numbers of voter fraud were wrong but continued to tout those numbers, both in court and to the public," the judge wrote.

Carter has previously ruled that Eastman and Trump had likely committed a felony by trying to pressure his then-vice president to obstruct Congress.

The ruling was made in a lawsuit filed by Eastman to block disclosure of the emails to the Jan. 6 select committee, following a congressional subpoena.

Carter has previously ordered Eastman to provide over 200 emails to the committee, after the lawyer resisted the subpoena and claimed that the communications were privileged.

The judge said Wednesday that the vast majority of emails still being sought by congressional investigators should not be handed over, as legal protections given to attorneys and their clients apply to the records.

He said eight emails that would normally be shielded under those protections must be given to the committee, after he found that the communications were in furtherance of a crime -- one of the few times those legal safeguards can be lifted.

Carter found that four emails show that Eastman and other lawyers suggested that the "primary goal" of filing lawsuits was to delay Congress's certification of the 2020 election results.

The judge said four other emails "demonstrate an effort by President Trump and his attorneys to press false claims in federal court for the purpose of delaying the January 6 vote."

Trump and his allies filed over 60 lawsuits challenging the 2020 election, which Biden won, with some complaints alleging voter fraud without evidence to support those claims. Those cases were overwhelmingly rejected by judges, some of which Trump appointed to the federal courts.

The Jan. 6 select committee last week voted to subpoena Trump in its investigation. It is set to issue a report in the coming weeks on its findings.

Former United States President Donald Trump is expected to testify in the defamation case involving columnist E. Jean Carroll who accused him of rape. Trump’s lawyers asked the court for a delayed date for his deposition, but Judge Lewis Kaplan made it clear that it will go ahead as decided. &nbsp;

Carroll claimed that Trump sexually assaulted her in a department store in New York in the 1990s and she has already submitted her deposition in front of the lawyers on October 14.

The defamation lawsuit was filed back in 2019 after Carroll wrote about the incident in her book which was published by the New York Magazine. According to the book, the incident happened in the changing room of the Bergdorf Goodman department store on Fifth Avenue in New York.

Trump completely denied the accusations and even went on to say that Carroll was “totally lying” and she was “not his type”. While there were arguments made by the lawyers that Trump was protected by his executive immunity as President, Carroll went on to file the case against him.

While experts believe that the argument regarding the executive immunity may play a part in the judgement, Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan also submitted proof of several comments that Trump made about her clients as well as the defamation case on the Truth Social platform.

There were also discussions about the US government defending Trump as the lawsuit was filed during his tenure as President, but all such reports were completely dismissed by the authorities.

While there were arguments made by the lawyers that Trump was protected by his executive immunity as President, Carroll went on to file the case against him. So when we have people with that mindset, well, you know we’ve got to do whatever it takes because, as President Biden said in that speech in Philadelphia, that those who supported Trump, those who didn't vote for him are extremists and a threat to our democracy.”

Gabbard was referring to Biden’s Philadelphia speech from September when he spoke of anti-democratic extremism among “Donald Trump and the Republicans.”

In that speech, Biden said that when people voted for Trump "they weren't voting for attacking the Capitol. They weren't voting for overruling the election. They were voting for a philosophy he put forward."

The 41-year-old Indian-origin former lawmaker quit the Democratic Party a few days ago, calling it an “elitist cabal of warmongers”.

In the 30-minute video, she lambasted Biden, saying, “President Biden campaigned on a message of unity, healing the partisan divide bringing the country together. He just gave a big speech saying supporters of President (Donald) Trump are the most extremist group in our country and a threat to our democracy. That’s half the country,” she said.&nbsp;

She had also said that Biden’s foreign policy was at fault as it allowed Russia's military invasion of Ukraine.

Officials took "unprecedented steps to insert political appointees into the publication process and rebut CDC's scientific reports, including drafting op-eds and other public messaging designed to directly counteract CDC's findings," the report said.

To make the congressional report, investigators interviews a dozen current and former CDC officials as well as senior administration figures.

The panel that has made the report, has described how Trump appointees at Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) tried to take over CDC's weekly scientific journal, the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), editing or blocking articles they believed might prove harmful to Trump.

Trump appointees had sought to "alter the contents, rebut, or delay the release" of 18 MMWRs and a health alert, succeeding on at least five occasions.

US probe reveals Trump aides blocked correct information on Covid

Hotels owned by Donald Trump charged the Secret Service more than $1.4 million over four years for the rooms used by the agents while protecting the former president and his family, documents released by the House Oversight Committee on Monday revealed.

The committee found that the Trump Organization charged $1,185 per night, which is five times more than the recommended government rate, despite the company earlier claiming that the security agents travelling with Trump would stay “for free” or “at cost.”

“The exorbitant rates charged to the Secret Service and agents’ frequent stays at Trump-owned properties raise significant concerns about the former President’s self-dealing and may have resulted in a taxpayer-funded windfall for former President Trump’s struggling businesses,” New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, the panel’s chairwoman, wrote in a letter to the service’s director, reports CNN.

In one instance, the Secret Service was charged $1,160 for a room at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. for agents protecting Eric Trump&nbsp;on March 8, 2017. Whereas the government rate on that night was $242, the report said quoting a ledger obtained by the committee.

Another ledger shows that the Secret Service was made to pay $1,185 while protecting Donald Trump Jr on November 8, 2017. The government rate was $201.

The committee has asked the Secret Service to provide two more years of expenditures at Trump-owned properties, but has not yet received complete information on nightly rates, the report noted.

In light of these events, the panel has said that it is looking to bring a new legislation to prevent “presidential self-dealing and profiteering, as well as to curb conflicts of interest by ensuring that future presidents are prevented from exercising undue influence on Secret Service spending.”

An email exchange between Wilkerson and fellow co-founder Andy Litinsky, who was reportedly sacked as retaliation for refusing to provide some of his shares—worth millions of dollars—to Melania Trump, is also among the evidence, according to Washington Post.

In what was expected to be its final hearing before the midterm elections, the House panel of seven Democrats and two Republicans agreed unanimously to compel Trump's appearance before investigators.

The legality of the holding company cannot be questioned in the court as it was formed just days before the lawsuit and as a result, it was not included as a defendant. In case of a win for the AG’s office, a number of assets will be not included in the judgement as they were not listed at all.

According to the legal request, Attorney General Letitia James has asked the judge to include the new company in Delaware in the fraud charges and also block Trump’s lawyers from transferring any more assets to the holding company without the written approval of the judge.

“Beyond just the continuation of its prior fraud, the Trump Organization now appears to be taking steps to restructure its business to avoid existing responsibilities under New York law.”

The AG and her office also said in the filing that the existence of the holding company means that the valuation mentioned in the lawsuit is not correct. They have urged the judge to ask Trump and his lawyers to divulge the details of the new company so that the figures can be completely verified.

“But look, he’s acted brutally...I think he’s committed war crimes. And so I don’t, I don’t see any rationale to meet with him now.”

On Putin's nuclear threats

He also said that he didn't believe that Russia would ultimately use nuclear weapons, adding, "I think it’s irresponsible for him to talk about it, the idea that a world leader of one of the largest nuclear powers in the world says he may use a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine."

"Not because anybody intends to turn it into a world war or anything, but just once you use a nuclear weapon, the mistakes that can be made, the miscalculations, who knows what would happen."

"The mistakes get made. And the miscalculation could occur, no one can be sure what would happen,"&nbsp;he said adding that such a "miscalculation" could end in Armageddon.
