Disney's former chief operating officer Bob Iger said that the company found that a "substantial portion" of Twitter's users were "not real" in 2016.

Highlighting that he got cold feet when the Walt Disney Co and Twitter Inc boards were prepared to enter negotiations, Iger said it was discontinued due to the discounted value.

Amid a legal battle between billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and Twitter over his deal to buy the social media company for $44 billion, Iger's comments could help the Tesla CEO.

Pointing out that he had second thoughts about a deal with Twitter because of the "nastiness" of the discourse on the social media platform, Igor said he feared would become a distraction.

Following the rejection to delay the lawsuit, Musk could add whistleblowing revelations from a Twitter ex-security chief that surfaced in August.

Saying prolonging the suit "would risk further harm to Twitter too great to justify," the chancellor of the Delaware court Kathaleen McCormick denied his request to push back the litigation.

Accusing Twitter of misleading him regarding the number of bot accounts on its platform, Musk cancelled the deal.

Arguing that Musk's request was another delay tactic, Twitter's attorneys said he was trying to derail the takeover.

A report by the Washington Post had made revelations criticising Twitter's security practices first became public in August.

Creator Tony Gilroy, speaking to reporters at a Television Critics Association event, said he drew on tidbits from the movie to craft a backstory for the character.

Cassian mentions in 'Rogue One' that he has been fighting in the galaxy's ongoing revolution since he was six years old.

"At the end of the film he says ‘Oh my God, if we don’t go out and make this final effort, then all of the horrible things that I've done for the Rebellion will be for naught," Gilroy said. "So we know there's a very dark period."

The series begins five years before the events of ‘Rogue One,’ Gilroy said, and the first season will cover a year's time. Disney has already ordered a second season, which will cover the next four years leading up to the beginning of ‘Rogue One.’

"I’m going to challenge everything you think you know about Cassian," Luna said. "I’m going to tell you something you don't know about what triggers that."

The carbon footprint of Disney's elite package trip, which costs $110,000 a ticket and emits 6.2 tonnes of carbon per guest, is 20 times greater than the carbon footprint of a person in a low-income country in a year. The 24-day "bucket list adventure," which can accommodate only 75 people, visits 12 Disney properties spread over six nations and three continents. Customers will fly aboard a "VIP-configured" Boeing 757 with Disney workers "who [will] provide fun and fact-filled stories enabling you to be immersed in every location you visit," according to Disney.

On July 9, 2023, passengers leave Los Angeles, California. From there, they will go to San Francisco, Tokyo via Anchorage, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Agra, Egypt, Paris, and finally Orlando, Florida. The tour is completely sold out. The jet fuel used to propel the aircraft for the entire 19,600-mile (31,500-km) journey, according to an analysis by the clean transportation group Transport & Environment (T&E), would emit a total of 462 tonnes of carbon dioxide - or 6.2 tonnes for each paying guest, which is more than most people in the world account for in a full year.

According to data gathered by the World Bank, the average yearly CO2 emissions per person in a low-income nation were 0.3 tonnes in 2019. The average annual carbon footprint per person was 4.5 tonnes worldwide. By 2030, each individual on Earth would only need to emit an average of 2.3 tonnes of CO2 annually in order for the world to achieve the target of staying under 1.5C of global warming. Climate activists noted that the tour, which costs $109,995 (£91,000) per ticket, illustrates research demonstrating how wealthy individuals are disproportionately responsible for the lion's share of carbon emissions worldwide.

Disney and BTS to collaborate on five projects in a major streaming deal. Here are the details

The mascot of Disney and one of the most recognisable fictional characters in pop culture, Mickey Mouse, may get out of its owner's grasp. The reason is the US copyright law, as per which the rights to a character expire after 95 years after publication for works published or registered before 1978.

Thus, Disney, which is also called the House of Mouse due to the character, may lose the licence to Mickey Mouse in 2024. The character first appeared in a 1928 film called 'Steamboat Willie'.

The character was co-created by Walt Disney himself and artist Ub Iwerks. An anthropomorphic mouse, the character was meant to be a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, an earlier Disney character. It is best known for its trademark appearance featuring red shorts with two white dots, yellow gloves, and big yellow shoes.

Mickey Mouse holds the honour of being the first cartoon character to have its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In most of the stories, Mickey appears with supporting characters like his girlfriend Minnie Mouse, his pet Pluto, Donald Duck, Goofy, among others.

The 1941 animated short featuring Mickey, titled 'Lend a Paw' won an Academy Award in the Best Animated Short Film category.

Roe v Wade overturned: US Companies that have pledged support to its female employees

After the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in the country, companies such as Meta and Disney have said they will cover employees' expenses if they have to travel for abortion services.

Handing a victory to Republicans and religious conservatives, the SCOTUS overturned the landmark 1973 ruling that recognised a woman's constitutional right to an abortion.

Making it difficult for female employees to terminate pregnancies unless they travel to states where the procedure is allowed, many states are expected to further restrict or ban abortions following the ruling.

According to a Disney spokesperson, the company remains committed to providing comprehensive access to quality healthcare, including for abortions.

Disney had faced criticism after it was revealed that it sponsored the “Don’t Say Gay” legislation and had later apologised for the decision.

As a result, it opposed Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, and in return governor, Ron DeSantis stripped Disney of its self-governing status for Disney World.

A spokesperson of Meta, Facebook's parent company, said the company will reimburse travel expenses for employees seeking out-of-state reproductive care.

It is currently "assessing how best to do so given the legal complexities involved," the spokesperson added.

Citing a "respectful communications" policy, Meta also moved to limit internal discussion of the ruling and took down links to Facebook posts by outgoing Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg that condemned it.

Disney and Meta were joined by Dick's Sporting Goods which announced that if abortion was not available nearby it will pay up to $4,000 in travel for employees.

Saying it would expand a recent policy as new state laws were passed, ride-hailing company Lyft said it would legally shield drivers in abortion cases.

IPL media rights will be up for grabs when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conduct the much-awaited e-auction on Sunday (June 12). A number of big companies are in the fray to secure the IPL media rights for the next five-year cycle from 2023 to 2027. Disney/Star held the IPL media rights for the 2018-2022 cycle and will be looking to do all they could to ensure they can retain the broadcasting rights of one of the biggest sporting events in the world at present.

While a number of big names are set to battle it out for the broadcasting rights of the IPL for the 2023-27 cycle, Amazon INC is likely to pull out of the race. As per a report in Bloomberg, Jeff Bezos' Amazon is planning to withdraw from the race which is also set to involve arch-rival Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Ltd among other big players.

The report claims that Amazon has already invested more than 6 billion USD in the country and is not looking to spend a huge sum to acquire the IPL streaming rights for the next five years. Amazon has reportedly thrown the towel and will not engage in a bidding war for the IPL media rights which is set to fetch BCCI a staggering 7.7 million USD.

As per the report, Amazon was initially interested in taking on the likes of Reliance and Disney to bag the IPL media rights for the next five years having identified the Indian T20 league as one of the half-dozen global sporting events they were interested in. However, they have now decided to not take part in the e-auction to be held on Sunday.

Star had bought the IPL media rights in 2017 for a sum of $2.55 billion. However, the amount is expected to rise around three times this year with the IPL growing into a ten-team tournament now. This will be the first time that the BCCI will sell the media rights of the biggest T20 league in the world through an e-auction.

Donald Duck bursts into our lives generally pretty early. The enduring image of the cartoon character in our minds is often him bursting in through a random door and shouting in anger in some intelligible words. The anger has an endearing side to it and it certainly doesn't take away the innocence in Donald Duck's smile when things are all well.

So it's a fitting tribute to the beloved cartoon character when a day is dedicated to him. June 9 is Donald Duck Day.

Donald Duck burst on the scene way back in 1934. The first-ever cartoon he featured in was titled 'The wise little hen'. It was a retelling of the bedtime story 'The little red hen'.

Though Donald Duck made his appearance in 'The wise little hen', his endearingly rage-filled self was not on display till the cartoon titles 'Orphan's benefit'. It was in this cartoon he formed a relationship with Mickey Mouse, another legendary cartoon character.

Since then, Donald Duck has gone on to carve his own domain and mega-fandom. To his ardent fans, he is next to no-one, not even Mickey Mouse, the Disney mascot.

Donald Duck has appeared in countless cartoons, sold merchandise worth millions and even featured in video games. His cartoons have been dubbed in numerous languages around the world and he has come to be loved by generations.

Is a single day enough to celebrate this legend?

Russo Brothers slam Disney for treating Scarlett Johansson unfairly

Disney on Wednesday said its profit slipped in the recently ended quarter but its television streaming service and parks were booming.

The entertainment giant reported net income of $470 million, just over half of the $912 million profit it made in the same period a year earlier.

But park attendance that had fallen due to the pandemic rebounded and the Disney+ television streaming service gained 7.9 million subscribers to 137.7 million.

When adding in subscriptions to Disney's streaming services Hulu and ESPN, the overall number tops 205 million.

"Our strong results in the second quarter, including fantastic performance at our domestic parks and continued growth of our streaming services once again proved that we are in a league of our own," said Walt Disney Company chief executive Bob Chapek.

He told analysts Disney is open to raising its streaming service subscription price in the future, but has no specific plans. Disney+ is pursuing a version of the service that would be supported by advertising, Chapek said.

Disney+ gained more subscribers than analysts had expected, in stark contrast to a dive in subscriber numbers reported by rival Netflix in the first quarter of this year.

A drop of just 200,000 users -- less than 0.1 percent of the total Netflix customer base -- caused shares in the Silicon Valley firm to plunge and prompted a shareholder to file a lawsuit accusing the streaming television titan of not making it clear that subscriber numbers were in peril.

"Disney+ has been taking Netflix out at the knees," tech analyst Rob Enderle of Enderle Group told AFP.

"Kids have always chased their content, and for parents it has been a no-brainer to get their service."

About half of Disney+ subscribers are families with children, executives said on the earnings call.

Disney stopped licensing its coveted content to Netflix to make it exclusive to its own streaming service, and said it planned to stick with the tactic when it comes to rivals in the market.

- Parks and politics -

Disney said that as its streaming television service continues to grow strongly, its resorts and parks are generally operating without any of the significant Covid-19 related restrictions on capacity that were in place last year.

The pandemic does continue to vex film and television show production, Disney said, but it has been able to release films in theaters so far this year.

"Our slate for the remainder of this year is incredibly strong," Chapek told analysts while discussing the company's line-up of shows for streaming and theaters.

Chapek acknowledged challenges getting Disney films released in China, saying the situation there is "very complicated" from political and business standpoints.

He said he was encouraged by the fact that a freshly released "Dr. Strange" film based on a Marvel comics character took in more than $500 million in its first week, even without being shown in China.

Disney has run into political turbulence closer to home, with the Florida governor recently signing a law that eliminates a statute that has for decades allowed the entertainment giant to act as a local government in Orlando, where it has a theme park.

The move was the latest episode in a dispute between the state's Republican administration and Disney, after the company criticized the passage in March of a law banning school lessons on sexual orientation.

"From a financial standpoint, Disney will come out ahead with the plug pulled," analyst Enderle said.

"It's almost like Florida gave them a monetary favor; Disney was covering all the costs of the municipality they are in."

The Reedy Creek Improvement District was an area created by Florida's congress in 1967 to facilitate the construction of Disney World in Orlando.

Under that agreement, Disney runs the district as if the entertainment juggernaut were a local government, including collecting taxes and guaranteeing essential public services such as garbage collection and water treatment.

Under Florida law, if the special district is dissolved, its assets and debts would be transferred to local governments that surround the area.

"Removing district could transfer $2 Billion debt from Disney to taxpayers," state Democratic senator Linda Stewart warned after the bill was signed.

Disney profit slips but streaming TV subscribers jump

Disney has restored a same-sex kiss scene in 'Toy Story' prequel 'Lightyear'. The moment was earlier cut from the moment earlier.

In March, several reports stated that LGBT and ally employees at Pixar had sent a letter to Disney voicing their protest around the company's decision to censor ‘overtly gay affection’ in its films including a same-sex kiss in the upcoming animated film 'Lightyear'.

The film tells the story of the real-life Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans) that inspired the TV shows and toys introduced in Toy Story.

One scene in the upcoming film sees Buzz’s commander Alicia Hawthorne – voiced by Uzo Aduba – share a kiss with her partner, another woman.

The scene was initially censored but later restored following a backlash from employees stemming from Florida's controversial Don't Say Gay bill.

In the past, Disney has featured extremely mild LGBT+ representation in their animation films- mostly in blink-and-you’ll-miss-it background scenes. But the studio made a conscious change in 2021 onwards when in 'Eternals' the studio went ahead to showcase Marvel's first gay superhero the franchise's first gay kiss.

The film, as a result, faced bans in multiple countries in the Gulf, but Disney and Marvel stuck to their stand. Even recently it has refused to cut an LGBTQ reference in their upcoming 'Doctor Strange 2' which would lead to a ban in Saudi Arabia.

While much of the backlash comes from ultra-conservative, ultra-religious countries where homosexuality is still illegal, a new row has begun closer to home for Disney.

The newly-passed anti-LGBT legislation, dubbed the Don’t Say Gay bill, limits educators in Florida from teaching young children about sexual orientation and gender identity. Any educator who does not follow the rules may face a severe legal battle.

Disney restores same-sex kiss scene in 'Lightyear' amid backlash

Will Marvel's latest 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' release in Saudi Arabia, finally? A few days back, we had reported that the film had not received a distribution certificate in the country ahead of its May 5 release.

An official of the country had clarified to the media that they were open to negotiate with the film's production house- Disney and demanded cuts in the film prior to its release.

According to reports, the country wanted Disney to cut a scene with same-sex relationship references but the studio has refused.

Several media reports state that the film though still holds a chance of a release- as talks are underway.

This is the second time that a Marvel film is facing problems in Saudi Arabia in recent months.

'The Eternals' did not play in Saudi Arabia over its same-gender couple romance and the MCU's first gay superhero.
Quite often movies with LGBTQ content don`t make it past censors in the Gulf, and `Doctor Strange 2` features America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) who is gay in the Marvel comics.

While it was earlier assumed that Saudi Arabia had problems with the particular character, a recent report in The Guardian states that Saudi's hesitation in letting the film release is due to a scene where Chavez is shown to have two mothers.

Nawaf Alsabhan, Saudi Arabia’s general supervisor of cinema classification spoke to The Guardian, "It’s just her talking about her moms because she has two moms. And being in the Middle East, it’s very tough to pass something like this. We sent it to the distributor, and the distributor sent it to Disney, and Disney has told us they are not willing."

The officials in the country are still open to negotiations. Speaking to the news agency AFP, one Saudi official said, “It will never be banned. There’s no reason to ban the film. It’s a simple edit...so far they have refused. But we haven’t closed the door. We’re still trying.”

We sent it to the distributor, and the distributor sent it to Disney, and Disney has told us they are not willing." The officials in the country are still open to negotiations. Speaking to the news agency AFP, one Saudi official said, “It will never be banned. There’s no reason to ban the film. It’s a simple edit...so far they have refused. But we haven’t closed the door. We’re still trying.”

Florida's legislature scrapped Disney's self-governing status in its Orlando theme park on Thursday, in a move widely seen as retaliation in a bitter row over what has become known as the "Don't Say Gay" law.

The bill, which is expected to be signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis, is the latest feint in a US culture war undertaken by the conservative presidential hopeful that has left Disney floundering.

"If Disney wants to pick a fight, they chose the wrong guy," DeSantis wrote in a recent email to raise funds.

The trouble for the entertainment behemoth began in March, when the state government passed a law banning school lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity for small children.

The law -- swiftly dubbed "Don't Say Gay" -- was part of a broader cultural battle that the Republican Party is waging as midterm elections in November approach.

Republicans are taking aim at news media, companies and Democratic politicians they accuse of trying to impose progressive ideology on others.

Disney initially hesitated to take a stand on "Don't Say Gay," which will affect kids in kindergarten through third grade, when they are eight or nine years old.

But the company's silence prompted an angry backlash by some of their 75,000 employees and LGBT rights groups.

CEO Bob Chapek then slammed the law and halted all of Disney's political donations in Florida.

"Don't Say Gay" law: Florida ends Disney's special status as culture war flares

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the best T20 league in the world at present. It's also become one of the most popular sporting tournaments in the world and the media rights for the upcoming 2022-27 cycle are set to fetch the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) a staggering amount of money. IPL media rights for the next five-year cycle are set to be auctioned in the second week of June this year.

The BCCI has already released the Invitation-To-Tender (ITT) for the sale of IPL 2023-27 media rights and several big names have expressed interest in joining the battle for the broadcast rights. Star currently holds IPL's media rights for the 2018-22 cycle which was bought for Rs 16,347.5 crore (Approx 2.1 billion USD) back in 2018.

As per a report in the Times of India, companies like Disney, Amazon, Sony, Zee and TV18-Viacom have already bought the ITT document as they look set to join the battle for the IPl 2023-27 media rights deal. The report also adds that American tech giant Apple is also expected to pick the ITT next week and compete with others for IPL's media rights.

May 10 is the deadline for the companies to purchase the ITT following which the BCCI will spend a month in evaluating the tender documents. The IPL media rights will be sold via an e-auction in the second week of June and the Indian cricket board is expected to fetch a revenue of a staggering 7.2 billion USD from the deal.

The BCCI is likely to earn almost three times the amount it had when IPL media rights were sold for the ongoing 2018-22 cycle. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said the revenue coming from the media rights deal will be invested to improve the domestic cricket infrastructure in India.

"Transparency will be the key and the revenues coming from sale or rights will be directed to India's domestic structure, better infrastructure and welfare of the cricketing fraternity," BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said.

The BCCI has packaged the IPL media rights deal into four separate buckets this time around. The package has been divided into the following categories - A) Television rights for India subcontinent; B) Digital rights; C) A cluster of 18 matches (season opener, four playoffs and evening matches of the double-headers on weekends); D) Rest of the world.

All eligible companies will have to bid separately for each category and the base price of the overall package has been set at Rs Rs 32,890 crore (Approximately 4.2 billion USD) by the BCCI. However, the bidding war between the big names is likely to earn the Indian cricket board significantly more than the base price.

Disney is facing backlash after it was revealed that the company was donating funds to Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' bill.

The entertainment and theme park giant has been under fire for failing to take a public stand against the measure, which opponents of the legislation say will harm the lesbian, gay, transgender and queer community.

The company employs more than 65,000 people at the sprawling Walt Disney World resort in Orlando.

Staff at Disney-owned Pixar Animation Studios said they were "disappointed, hurt, afraid and angry" over their company's silence on the Florida legislation.

Employees joined with advocacy groups such as Color of Change in calling on Disney to withdraw funding from politicians who support the Florida bill.

Minnie Mouse to ditch iconic red dress: But why, ask netizens

Walt Disney Co says it is "taking a different approach" for its upcoming live-action remake of animated movie 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', following criticism from actor Peter Dinklage.

In an interview on comedian Marc Maron`s podcast 'WTF' on Monday, Dinklage, who has a form of dwarfism known as achondroplasia, said the casting of a Latina actress in the titular role was "progressive" but called the story, based on the 19th-century fairytale, "backward".

"Literally no offence to anything, but I was a little taken aback...They were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White - but you’re still telling the story of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,' the 'Game of Thrones' and 'Cyrano' actor said.

"Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way..., but you’re still making that fucking backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together? What the f**k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough."

The remake of Disney's 1937 animated film, in which seven dwarf miners take in a princess after she is exiled by her wicked stepmother, stars 'West Side Story' actress Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Israeli actress Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
